Hi everyone~ This would be my first thread here, hope to get along with you all~ Anyways, I had my Z5C for almost a year now, and just wanted to know if you guys have any recommended File Explorer. I've been using ES File Explorer since getting mine because the default File Explorer has way too less details and functions. But recently ES File Explorer gave me problems as well such as "Not Responding" and already has 100+ incidents since my last restart 3 days ago. :'( Anyway, I would like to know what File Explorer you guys are using and what would you recommend? One File Explorer with network feature or LAN would be nice too. Thanks guys~
ES FE(Free version) definitely most universal.
Root E(Paid version) using for system intrusion.
Solid Explorer(Paid version) on third place, I can use it like alternative to other previous two explorers.
i used much ES for a very long time, paired with root explorer for some tasks
but with last updates, ES is a like a low cost swiss knife with so many useless tools
since a few mounthes i passed to Solid Explorer and its perfect for my use, dont use Root Eplorer anymore, much personalized, chromecast compatible, usefull double panel, FTP add on
so i also removed my old ftp server app
I use X-plore since Symbian times and it is really full of features. Give it a try.

i use ES mostly for wireless access and Zip... BUT
they become spammy and alot of malware and liers
i remember they said they're new lockscreen is save battery they activated without asking and its drain more of the battery cuz it had ads and using data
for the rest im using stock FK file commander

It nagging you to buy it is kind of annoying, but totally worth it. The animations are great and the features thought out and powerful.
But I can barely stress enough how great the animations are. They really are good. It's pretty visible that the developer cares.
I totally styled that post out with a picture, link to the great website and a youtube video, but it turns out that I can't post any links because my account is too new.
I've been using ES forever but like with most people, it has gotten very bloated and I'm looking for a change. Haven't found anything I like more yet.
Used AntTek Explorer before, but slow updates and lots of bugs with newer system got me to change to FX File Explorer. This is the best (in both look and use) that I tried so far
Total Commander. I'm using the Windows version since ages and on Android it works pretty well for me too (incl. tools like text editor, media player etc.). And it's totally free with no ads!
I had some issues with Solid explorer "errors when copying big files between internal and external storage", and found FX file explorer the best for me.
Root Explorer, the best file explorer by far.

Solid explorer seem nice. Does everything i need, and its modular.
I've been using ES for ages, and yes, the free version has gotten pretty bloated up, but I broke down and bought the paid version, which seems to fix all of that and has a nice dark theme as default. I've considered trying other file managers, but some of the extra features in ES (like ringtone picker, etc) are nice.

Hi all. I'm a new Android user (and new P500 user as well). At the start I've been advised by my friends and a lot of internet opinions that Astro is one of the best file managers for Android. So I started using Astro right then, and to be fair, I've been really happy with it. It has the looks, the functions, and although it sometimes lags here and there, it's really good for the free version. But after all, I mostly used it just to install apks from the sd card.
Today I was bored and started playing around with my Optimus One a bit. So I tried the OI File Manager (the default file manager that came pre-installed on my handset, I don't know if you guys have it). And yes, I'm impressed. I expected it to be just a little piece of junk, turned out it actually worked. Although it lacks most of the advanced functions, the browsing experience was really nice. I didn't feel any lag when browsing through large folders of many files, and it has kinetic scrolling too. It delivers the smooth feeling like when you scroll the music list in the default "music" app or video list in the "video" app. It can even install the apks on the sd card, as well. And thumbnail for images works fast and smooth (in Astro they appear laggy).
So IMO, the OI File Manager is not completely useless. For quick browsing for some files, or install apks from the sd card,.. it seems to be the better choice than Astro. What do you guys think?

Anyone else having problems with Astro file manager? After updating to 3.0.203 Astro would not work on my nook, but it works fine on my cell phone. Now when I try to access the sd card I would get this message saying "directory does not exist, create error writing file". Root explorer has no problem mounting the sd. any ideas?
There is a hidden second column, pull it out from the extreme right.

Yeah, I think I like the older version better, everything is way too blue and bloated now. I liked how lite weight Astro was...
After being used Astro for months w/o issue, just after update to new version, I got FC when running it.
I had the same problem, but i had to set the right path in Astro preferences. Open Astro, go to Preferences and there set "Removable/MicroSD" for External storage and "Removable/USBdisk1" for pen drive. Hope it helps.

Whoa I was having this problem too. I'll have to try the secret 2nd column. I agree, the old version was way better. Every time I open it now I just stare at it confused. I've been primarily using File Expert for a while now.
Does Astro with the SMB plug in work? It crashes for me all the time. That is why I use File Expert.
Astro and ES do not see microSD or USB plugged into dock
Asus file manager is great, but all my files are long and truncated... I can't customize (get rid of size, date columns) ...sometimes literally pisses me off why they have so much white space in there, yet my filenames are truncated.

Actually, Astro sees your Removable storage just fine. You just have to set up the paths in Preferences.
Im in the same boat. Preferences only gives me the internal memory as a path so the shortcut takes me to the same place.

I see what you mean. I had Astro set for /Removable/MicroSD as the external SD card directory,but when I went to check it after your post it suddenly gives me the internal SD path as the external SD. I am guessing that something happened after the latest update to confuse Astro? I can still navigate to /Removable/MicroSD, but I can no longer set it as the default in Preferences as the external SD card.
I am using root explorer. It sees the micro sd card just fine, it gives it the name /removable i think. I have not tried a usb stick though. I use it since it allows me to edit /system files once rooted.
If rooted definitely root explorer.
They all show up under /removable/micro SD,SD,etc.
I have used & owned them all & hands down I think root explorer is #1

I looked at Root Explorer on the Market, but the few specifications there did not mention if it could do Samba. Do you know if it can? One of the reasons I have been using Astro is because it can Samba into my desktop PC's file system.
Ghost commander for file's transfers and File Manager HD for rest. That is my combination.

I def prefer root explorer for everything. However ES is great because I can access my book live on my home network. As far as I know root exp does not support this.
yeah I use ES for my sensation and it is great, cant be beat.
But not the same story with ATP.

I noticed an issue with my favorite file explorer the other day, when trying to copy a large file over wifi, it would fail every time when letting the tablet sleep. I am using an alternate file explorer for those large file copies but really wish I could move back to ES FE. Anyone have this experience? It fails literally every time I do a file over a few hundred Meg. I don't have the issue on any of my other android devices, but none have ICS. Maybe an issue with ICS and that program? Or just my Prime? It is not losing the signal, just stops the transfer--- still shows that it is going but never completes and file size never changes.
I have the same problem. Beside that I'm somehow unable to cancled a transfer, I had several failed downloads of huge files. Also switched to a different file-browsers which works without problems.

Can anyone confirm other devices that have ICS having the issue? It would be helpful to know if it had something to do with ICS or just the prime. I actually installed it based on recommendations from this forum and found issues with it on my first large file transfer... I can agree on how powerful and simple it is but switched over to File Explorer HD because it works. Not that I recommend FEHD, full of ads and still not "HD" enough for the prime

It's not a prime (or ICS) specific problem. It happens frequently across all my devices with ES File Explorer. And as far as I can tell, there's no way to cancel a copy once it's started.
wohli - there may be a manual somewhere but it really is pretty easy. Just tap the "local" selection on the top left corner of the app, then choose LAN. You can either scan for servers with SMB shares or you can attach one by using the "add" dialog, that will ask for user/pw, IP or name, domain (optional). Then hold on a file from one of the shares for the copy option. Then use the same menu at the top left to get back to local, then tap the paste button at the top.

I actually like the app and use it for wifi copying, but it does halt frequently when copying files over wifi and that's kind of frustrating. Usually happens on really large files or when you queue up a bunch. I don't think I've ever been able to queue up say 10 video files and get them all to finish. The annoying thing is when it finally does stop copying, you can't cancel and restart, you have to force close the app or reboot phone. I've experienced this on transformer prime, galaxy 10.1, and my HTC glacier. Works great for smaller files though.
This is probably obvious, but I believe the Prime is set to turn off wifi when sleeping by default. This might be an ICS default.
You can change it under Wifi->Advanced.
Yeah, same here. Both my phone and Prime have that problem w/ ES.
I don't know if there's a better WiFi file manager on the market but I really like ES.
Even if wifi is set to sleep when the prime does... the prime will not fully sleep with a data stream going of any kind. Other File explorers do not fail when it sleeps.

Does ANYONE know of a good file explorer that will pull files down from wifi reliably? It would also be nice if it had most of the features from ES and even better yet if it displayed at native resolution for our primes!!!

It works well enough for what I need it for 95% of the time. If I need to transfer a big file or a lot of files, it's quicker to do it over USB anyways.

you may use airdrod for wi-fi file transfer if that's what you wanted
Try Ghost commander. Not a good interface, but work well for wifi transfer, and you can see a speed - current/average.

Nothing new, the problem still exists, you can't move large files, I'm keeping try to move a 2GB file with no luck.
Post the file manager tha you are using and the reason you prefer him from others.
Personally I prefer solid explorer cause it have clean UI without adds or bloatware, also it has dual window.
I mostly use FX File Explorer with the Root plugin, very clean and fast but has some problems with permissions on marshmallow...
