Replacement Note 7: Big black sticker vs small black dot - Note 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi All,
I had two note 7 phones replaced in Canada, and the replacements are interesting.
1- On the first replacement, there is a black box at the top right of the bar code sticker, and that black box is printed onto the label.
2- On the second replacement, there is a black "sticker" that seems to be applied to the label; you can run over it with your nails and notice that it is a sticker and is not actually printed.
For those that got the replacement, which of these applies to you. What could be the difference? Thanks!

I didn't even get a box for my replacement lol. Samsung told me to wait for the update to see if my phone gets the green battery icon.

Smaller printed black box for me.

Printed.

Those with stickers should be units that were already assembled and ready to ship overseas. Samsung knew they were not affected and as such as placed that stickers on. Those with printed labels should be the new units coming out from the assembling after the fix was introduced.

So on second look, both labels are actually printed and there is no sticker. However, on one of the labels on the phone that arrived on September 16, the black box is half the size of the replacement that arrived on September 21. It even seems like the black box on the second one has a fine line in between that cuts it into two black boxes.

While Samsung might not have been able to determine which phones are affected, they may know which one's aren't. For example if they know certain runs at certain plants definitely didn't have stock of the questionable battery cells then all those phones would be OK as originally produced. Mine from AT&T had three protective seals on it with only the last one not cut open. I'm guessing it left the factory with one seal, had to be opened for some reason, and then had to be opened a second time before I received it. If I was a glass half-empty kind of person I'd probably be freaked out. Since I'm a half-full person I just assumed that the box opening was because of the confusion of the replacement program. The phone's fine and it has the green battery update on it so unless I need to feel otherwise I'm calling it good.

Battery Door cover

Custom Battery Doors?
So we can all agree that the Developer Version of the G1 has a pretty sweet custom battery cover. Anybody know of anywhere making similar products?I expected to find a whole slew of decorated covers in all sorts of colors by now, but I searched Ebay and some online shops and no dice.
Re: Custom Battery Doors/Plastics on Dummy G1s
Have you considered picking up a dummy G1 (like they use in retail displays) cheaply on eBay? They may use the same casing parts - if anyone knows, please tell me?
I'm thinking about getting one of the dummies and respraying the plastics purple, then swapping the plastics with the ones on my G1 (using the instructions in the service manual that showed up on the interwebs).

I painted mine a while back. Sanded it down first, to get rid of the rubberized texture (for the paint to stick better).

That battery cover is not white lol. It more like gold/silver/copperish?
I asked the seller and he told me that indeed it was white, but you never know its ebay
I think that may be the UK one.
Apparently when the G1 Pictures first came out the UK white G1 Variety had a white back cover.
I have the white G1 in the U.S. and It has a Silver/Greyish battery cover.
I have had the problem that the "Softtouch" has started to fade and there is a visible copperish color coming through. The inside of the cover is in fact white, so I guess you could clean a grey one off and use it as white.
T-mobile paid (Through account credit) the cost of 15 dollars plus S&H to replace mine from HTC. I ordered the Black one so I would not have this problem again. Now my Phone is white in front, with a grey stripe around it and a black back. Looks Storm Trooperish.

Is it even possible to replace all of that? If I can find one without the logo in all white I would definately want one, but wouldn't it be too difficult to replace all of it?

yup, so possible in fact, that HTC wrote a manual on how to do it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=468673
ok, not a whole manual, but it's in there somewhere.
also it looks pretty fkin hard to do, i don't trust myself tbh =/
doesn't
it doesn't really look that difficult. just follow the directions. time consuming yes. i wouldn't do it unless i found one without the t-mobile logo, that would be a waste of time. if i could find one with no logo i'd be so happy. i hate advertising for free
i have a white UK G1 and the back is the same glossy white as the rest of the phone...
the white paint is holding up brilliantly as well and as i said is the same glossyness as the front... so white front, silver trim with a white back.

I am having this same problem. I know a guy who has done the same as you but he didn't have to pay for the cover. He went in to T_Mobile and told them the problem and said he wanted a black back piece and they just gave him one. As for myself, I may just do the same.
I like the black back
I just paid up front for it, T-mob credited my account for it.
I like the black back, looks kind of Storm-Trooperish.
While a Glossy white one is most appealing to me, (I consider myself lucky to even have a white G1). I think it will be a while before white battery covers become available OEM, until then the grey back looks like its really dirty around the edges, so the white one gives the phone a more polished look.

Replace Warranty Dots

Hey,
I accidentally dropped my phone in the toilet. it still works (and the toilet was clean) but the white dot you can see after taking out the battery and looking above the serial code is now red. Is there any way to replace that dot? Are there any other water indicators? My device is under warranty and I want to get it replaced.
there is another water indicator in your battery. you can try to find the water indicator sticker on ebay. i have no idea if they have the exact one.
I have replaced my phone at least 3 times and they always send me my phone first and then I send mine. Do you think they'll check the water indicators and fine me?
also anyone have a picture of a battery with the indicator? Mine is white with red lines dunno if that's cause it's wet or if it's always like that

They will see it has been in water from the indicators, and then you will be billed full retail for a new phone. My ex tried this herself..............yeah, she peed a little when she got the bill. If you are under contract, they will suspend your service if you don't pay for the replacement. She said FU to AT&T when this happened and changed carriers right away.
That's usually the first thing they ask, probably the first thing they check !
Btw, no such thing as a clean toilet...lol!

I had a problem like yours before, except my Atrix was "damaged" by rain... Everything worked, but I just wanted to get it replaced, so what I did:
1. Ordered this: WATER DAMAGE INDICATOR STICKER FOR HTC DESIRE Z A7272
This is the replacement for the HTC G2, it's the largest water damage sticker size out there. Atrix is 6mm, G2 is 4mm. It works because only 2mm is shown on the Atrix, so that leaves 2mm for error.
2. When it gets to you follow this guide till step 6.
3. On the back cover that you took off you will find the red sticker. Peel it off. Take the HTC sticker and place it so that the white side is facing the right way, the sticky side won't be touching anything.
4. Apply a small piece of tape on the sticky red side to keep it on the casing. Check that you did a good job, and put the phone back together.
5. Get it replaced under warranty!
Thanks guys cheers
I wonder if you could just use like a plain white sticker, like from an address label or something
the only thing i'd be worried about is that they might try getting it wet
You guys do know insurance fraud is a felony right?

[Q] Am I the only victim of the blue splotch in the middle of the screen?

As I am lying down on my bed browsing the interwebs, I am on a page where it is black text with a white background. I notice in the middle of my screen, a blue splotch of coloration. I try to wipe it off, it does not go away. I browse to another page, it is still there. Wtf?? Do I have to send this thing back or what? Am I the only one?

If it's been less than 14 days since your purchase you will want to go back to the place you bought it or another corporate Verizon store (assuming you purchased it from a corp store in the first place) and they will give you a brand new replacement.
If it has been more than 14 days you will need to call Verizon or go into a corporate Verizon store to have them issue a warranty replacement.
Good luck!
PS. Depending on when you bought it you may be included in Verizon's "extended holiday return policy" in which case you would have until January 15th to go into a corp store and have it replaced.
I noticed one on my screen too. It's fairly small, and for me, it's not worth the effort to try and get a replacement. You can only really see it over a white background. I also noticed that there may be a second similar spot at the very top edge of my screen. I use a battery app that displays the battery level as a bar across the top of the screen. When I view it at an angle a small part of the bar appears darker. NBD really.
Yeah I had the same thing. I took it into vzw and they took one look at it and ordered me a warranty replacement immediately. Put a dead pixel test app on your phone in case you get a stubborn salesman.
Try this one.

PS I heard that the blue splotches were caused by too much pressure on the phone, for example, Verizon's case caused quite a few people to get the blue spot. How did the rest of you get the blue spot?

I have the vzw tpu case and I do suspect that it is the cause of the creaky back cover. My replacement was perfect until I put the case on. I peeled it off and then it started to creak. It is super snug.
I have the Verizon case, you think it's causing it?

That's what I have too Jay. I don't think its so much the pressure while its on, its the wear and tear of taking it off. My replacement didn't creek and was solid until I put on and took off my you case. It flexes the back cover and is probably a screen component underneath. New one no blotches yet. We will see.

Did it come together with the matching sim door?
As long as you get a fully assembled back cover, this is extremely easy to do. There are just two screws at the bottom, remove them and the phone pops right out.
It did not come with the sim tray, but I think thats ok, with the original black tray it still matches the two toned color scheme. Like the black and red for example.
And petard you are misleading others, it is easy to separate the phone yes, but you must be careful when removing the micro-USB ribbon and connector assembly and the wireless charging coil! Other than delicate patience with those parts though, it is pretty straight forward.

CYAN!
@IronMan1289: Thanks for your explanation!
I was not shure why some sparepart seller say it's difficult and the phone needs some kind of calibration after the cover swap.
Anyway. Did anybody see a cyan cover as a spare part?
I would definitly risk it to change the color.

I have also done this. Swapped my Cyan for the all elusive grey. We probably bought the covers from the same seller as mine also came from the UK. I did manage to get my hands on the matching sim door as well. I also had to swap the headphone jack, USB ribbon, bottom antenna (the part where the USB ribbon is attached to), and the wireless charging coil like you mentioned from the old housing over to the new one. I also managed to solve the dust getting into the FFC problem with a few dabs of rubber cement where the dust initially enters in. Overall it was simple and looks OEM. Sorry about the bad pics. Used my old G2.

Thanks! Yours looks awesome too! The red definitely looks great. Reminds me of a Ferrari lol. Well I got rid of the cyan because I dropped it a few times and the left top corner got bruised up pretty good and it annoyed the crap out of me everytime I picked up my phone. I originally was gonna get the yellow housing but I saw the grey and liked it so much more. I also had that same idea, but I don't wanna keep moving the headphone jack, flex cable, and wireless charging coil everytime I switch housings. I suppose I could buy those parts and pre-install them in the other housing so all I'd have to do is plug in the flex cable and drop the phone in, but I looked it up and all those parts including the new housing came up $166. Just can't justify spending that lol. I actually heard that the cyan was available online only through At&t.

Only one I could find is this one, but it requires a lot more work as you have to transfer everything over from the old housing.

Not sure, but this might be the housing that contains all the components that Nissan350/IronMan1289 used. It costs around $113 (US) and is shipped from the UK...

Question Samsung Trade-In: any issues?

I had an "almost" successful trade-in from Samsung.com, I sent my S22U and they just received it yesterday. It has no cracks nor scratches at all, it is in prestine condition, I took pictures and videos before boxing it in. Then i received an email saying that the phone have "crack" on body and / screen! So they're going to charge me $155! I was so mad and I immediately called CS and i told them It has no cracks at all before before sending it. Good thing they have an easy to talk to CS. It was resolved immediately because I told them i took pictures and video of it right before i put on the box.
This was my 2nd trade-in nightmare, the 1st one was the Smartwatch trade-in, same thing. They said it has crack also. I wonder who really are checking these?
Samsung is notorious for doing this. Happens with repairs too and has been going on for years.
Many have reported similar experiences.
Another option on addition to taking pics of it is to let a FedEx rep examine the phone then photograph and box it there. ALWAYS insure the shipping for the new replacement price of the phone. Double box and pad/tape it up well.

Yeah, i had to carefully wrapped it from the S23U shipping wraps / box and even installed my old case
Unreal! Samsung tried to do the same thing to me. Wanted to take $155.00 off the value of the Trade-in cause they said the screen was cracked. But i had removed all my accounts from the phone, factory reset it, packed it up in its original box, took pictures and wrote down the IEMI and Serial numbers. Phone was in MINT condition without even a scratch. So they quickly reversed course and gave me the full $500 trade-in value. But it's the first Trade-in where I have had a problem with them. They must have some seriously crooked people on payroll at their warehouses in Texas because obviously I am not the first one they have done this too.
My trade-in with Samsung Germany (S22U Exynos) went flawlessly (sent back with screen protector still on, in the original box). Is it an issue people in USA are often having with the trade-ins?
My S22U trade-in went perfectly too.
I'm in the UK and I actually traded in my 12GB/512GB SnapDragon S9080 which was a Hong Kong spec S22U (and cost me £300 less than the equivalent UK spec phone initially). I got £620 trade-in value for it.
I also only factory reset it as opposed to removing my Google Account first so that debunks that rumour too!

No rumor. If you factory reset from settings you should be ok. If you do the reset from the boot menu without removing your Google account FRP will be active.

It could be in USA only, well at least, most likely

Did a class-action against Samsung US got launched in the recent years? If many people are encountering that kind of stuff, I'm nearly surprised that it hasn't been done (yet?).
Small scratch below the camera, samsung called badly cracked and offered the same $155 charge.
I will never trade in with samsung again.

Darn it. I had to rush out my shipment so I had no time to take photos or videos. I also didn’t have the phone box so I just put case and wrapped phone in bubble wrap in a tight box. Does have minor scratches on screen as I only used it with case and no screen guard but nothing else

If you don't use a screen protector it will likely get scratched.
Always keep the original box. When shipping place that in a sturdy box that's bigger and place bubble wrap all around it so it's not loose or in contact with the box, seal with tape.
Get a larger box and repeat.
ALWAYS fully insure the shipping. If prepaid make sure the issuer of the label is fully insuring YOUR phone! If in any doubt pay for the shipping yourself. Use FedEx or UPS, 2nd day is best.

If you didn't have the original phone box you were supposed to send it back in the S23u box.

They didn't asked for the video or picture when I called them. You should be fine... if in US, good luck!

That's for your protection not theirs!
It strengthens your position if your insurance claim is disputed. Cover your six...
Got exactly the same issue.
My trade in S22 Ultra was in pristine condition.
I contacted support on chat and it took the representative less than five minutes to cancel the charge.
Did they actually checked?
Are they taking a chance that we are going people are going to suck it up and pay $155?
This is borderline fraudulent.
My trade in went down to 1$ value :-( It was originally 5$ so I'm not that disappointed
Seems like this is US problem mostly. My S22U went in... took Samsung 10 days to process and then I've got email that has been done. So my only complain could be lack or very minimal information provided of what is going on.

Cause I just toss my S22 in the shipping box the s23 came in and deip the thing off at fed ex. I did keep my screen protector on it and I also left the case on. Got my full credit day before yesterday.

The instructions for Samsung state to put the phone in the box nothing else. No cases, no accessories etc. Just the bare phone. And you put it in the S23U box and put the s23 box in the shipping box that it came in. At least that how you supposed to do it. I always have my original box so I put mine in the S22U box.
