Mhl problem - Xperia Z2 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I connect my z2 to my TV by mhl my tablet can no longer find my WiFi, it finds plenty of others just not mine.
As soon as I unplug it from the TV it connects to my WiFi straight away.
I have tried it on 3 TV's, the same thing happens every time
Any help is much appreciated

HDMI port

my TF HDMI port not working, when i first conneted it to TV, showed sign of HDMI on on lower right side next to time and screen started flickering, since then i could not get any connection, I got another priem and tried it with same cable cgot connectted easily, i tried with 3rd TF, and it showed HDMI sign on TF with holding end of cable but no images on TV. MY original TF does not have any other problem, WIFI is very good, no light bleeding or dead pixel, GPS is working ( it is not great) .
I really do not want sent my TF to ASUS to screw it. I wipped TF and hoping it works but it did not.
I am getting new micro cable hoping it may works?
anybnody has any suggestion
Try another cable and/or TV first.
I did no changes.please help
I have this problem too. It was working and now its not. No HDMI icon in the right corner either.
Curses! I just discoverd this same issue tonight with my Prime. I started watching a movie with my daughers, then we had to pause for a crying fit (them, not me). Prime turned off while we got through it, once it came back on the hdmi wouldn't stay connected. The little symbol in bottom right kept flashing back and forth from on then off. And now finally nothing.
I rebooted and got nothing now. The issue isn't with my tv accepting my prime, but with my prime recognizing a cable being attached. I had to sometimes push it up and at an angle to get it to register.
No wifi issue, and I love it otherwise. I just hoped this was an easy fix. Maybe not.
K--
A data wipe did nothing to solve the problem. I ended up returning it for full refund.
Same issue here... I got to watch about 2 shows of the three stoges before it went out.
I then connected my evo using the same cable to the same HDMI port on the TV and works great.
Data wipe doesn't work.....
anybody?

[Q] Viewsonic g tablet help SmoOth Bean 4.1.2 ver 1.5(Standard PlayStore) 160 DPI ROM

I bought a Viewsonic g tablet on sale a year and a half ago and until this day it meets the light. (It was only touched when purchased then back to the box)
I followed the instructions to the letter (new on this) and everything seems to be working, I have a Malata zpad dock DS-A002 supposed to be fully compatible with the g tablet and I placed the tablet on the dock, connected HDMI in the TV but nothing happens.
Don't see an option in settings to select output to TV.
Many thanks in advance.
Forgot to mention, tried this on the TV which is an LG and monitor which is a Hanns-G
I have to say that this is a first so far. When I read this I went ahead a connected up my dock which is the same make and model as yours to my TV and it works. HDMI is sometimes a pain especially with the newer TV's that are out. You also got to have the dock powered up if you haven't done that. If the power cord is connected and the tablet displays the dock clock then connect the HDMI to the dock with the TV turned off. After connection is made turn on the set and make sure you are on the proper input. It should work, but if not try a different TV.

Thanks for the reply
The LCD TV is a couple of years old, the LCD monitor is 3ish years old
My mother has a 5yr old LCD TV, that's another TV I could test on
The dock is powered up using the charger that came with the gTab
The tablet displays the dock clock when placed on the dock
I've tried different combinations:
Dock powered up, TV off and plugin cable, gtab on then place on dock, turn TV on
Dock powered up, TV off and plugin cable, gtab off then place on dock and power on, turn TV on when gtab is on the dock clock
Dock powered up, TV on and plugin cable, gtab on then place on dock
Dock powered up, TV on and plugin cable, gtab off then place on dock and power on
TV detects HDMI when the gtab is placed on the dock, but after 3-5 secs says no signal meaning it does detect HDMI (shows up as an option, I've tried on all 3 HDMI inputs btw) but it doesn't show up an image.
I've tried these methods in the TV and the monitor, nothing
Doesn't make sense to me since everyone in the thread hasn't had this issue, should be plug-and-play right?

Should I backup the current install and go back to the stock crappy ROM just to test it out? (Wipe everything as instructed before doing so?)
Thanks
No since in going all the way back to stock to test it out. Have you by chance tried a different HDMI cable. You might have a faulty connection or even a dirty connection will make it loose its connection. You may also want to check to see if the TV has a default native setting set. The gtablet will display a image like a PC I believe. Will have to connect it up again to see what res. the device puts out at default.
Alright find the link up solution. I tried different ways of connection all with failure to display on my TV with the exception of this. Try it and you will be satisfied.
1st. Place you dock near your TV with power cord and HDMI cable both connected. Don't connect other end of HDMI cable to TV just yet.
2nd. Have tablet turned on and fully booted up. Then place tablet on dock and leave the dock clock displayed.
3rd. Turn on TV and set the input to the HDMI connection you are about to connect to. Then connect HDMI to that input that is in TV and the display should reflect the device.
Let me know if this works. Thanks.

Hi, yes I tried 2 different cables, different ports, cleaned up (blow air) into the TV and and dock ports (dock is brand new never used from a year+ ago)
I couldn't find a default native setting on the TV.
Really sucks that there is an awesome ROM for the gtablet and I can't use it on the bigger screen, intention was to watch Netflix and movies, besides reading
The tablet is one of those projects that never happened and when I finally manage to get it going this happens...:crying:
Read the addon that I posted. It will connect if you connect it in that order.

Hi Nobe, it still doesn't work. I just don't get it.
TV recognizes the connection (shows as plugged-in) but says no signal.
Unfortunately monitor is not as advanced as a TV, simply says no signal.
Faulty dock? It charges fine
Thanks
Went to stock, and image shows up fine on TV
Is there something I could change, DPI,res? on the current SmoOth install (have backups) that could potentially fix the issue?
Thanks

I keep mine at 160dpi. The issue is that you have to connect everything to the dock before connecting it up to the TV. For some strange reason the dock settings doesn't recognize the connections being made. The dock works fine it is the drivers I believe that are kernel related. If you power up the dock with the HDMI connected to it, then place tablet on the dock, then connect the HDMI to the TV's input with the TV on and turned to that input. Then it should display onto the TV without issues. Done this multiple times when this came up and this was the only way for me to get the dock to display the output of the tablet.

The thing is I did exactly as you said multiple times to be sure.
Using SmoOth image does not come up
Restored to stock ROM and image shows up fine
I'm going to try a fresh SmoOth install and see how it goes or is there any way to check the drivers or make adjustments to it?
Thanks
Any advice on checking the drivers?
Thanks
Actually the drivers are there and working the way they are suppose to be. I do believe that it might in the way it is communicating with the TV still. I am currently working on something that might help out, but I want to test it fully before suggesting it since most everyone doesn't use this feature.

It is really odd that doing the same process on the stock rom works.
Thanks a lot for the follow-up Nobe
Curious if anyone found a solution to this problem? I too have the exact same issue with my Gtab even after trying the solution posted with different cables and such. Stock rom works fine though.
I'm wondering if Nobe found something

Virgin Mobile EVO V 4G MHL to DVI

Hi...sorry if this is the wrong place, but from my understanding they are the same phone and I didn't see any category specifically for the evo v...
At any rate, so I bought an ikross mhl to dvi adapter, hoping to connect my phone to an 18" LCD I have, but so far no luck with any of 3 monitors. I've connected the phone to a wall charger and tried hooking it up in different orders, to no avail...basically have followed every suggestion I can find.
I've now purchased an mhl to hdmi adapter from newegg for my TV and hopefully will at least verify the general functionality is working (when it arrives on the Monday following this post), but eventually would prefer it on the monitor. I also bought an HDMI to DVI adapter, just as a long shot.
I scoured google before I bought the adapter and every indication seemed like it should work fine, and now have scoured google + these forums again, but just not really finding much info related to my specific hardware.
The phone is rooted, running the latest Harmonia rom and is S-ON...I don't think that would affect it, as everything else on the phone so far has worked flawlessly, however, can't rule it out. There is a guide floating around on how to "turn the evo v into a evo 3d", so if this is rom-related, it's something to try? Requires going S-OFF, but even if it didn't fix anything, at least I'd get the radio updates. But again, from my understanding, the hardware is identical and this phone should be able to do standard mhl, so i assumed mhl to dvi should work as well, but I'm a little unsure about the standards...
Any insight is greatly appreciated and as I always do, if I find a solution, I will post
Still a no-go with an MHL to HDMI adapter, connected to my TV. The closest I came, was the phone went into dock mode if I didn't have the charger connected. Oh and if I unplugged the HDMI cable from the adapter, the TV would say check cable...So the TV was aware that a device was connected, thus it seems the issue lies in the phone.
Anybody have any idea what I could be missing? This /should/ work - the Virgin Mobile site even lists hdmi output as a feature of this phone, but no further mention in the manual and as I said in the OP, spotty info around the web
UPDATE: Just tried it with a monitor again, using an HDMI to DVI adapter, with the new MHL to HDMI adapter, and it almost wants to work - the monitor stays awake (not saying "no signal") and the phone registers that it's connected via hdmi, but the most picture I can get on the screen is but a flash when I change the phone's orientation =/
A second hdmi mhl adapter that I had ordered arrived today (was not expecting it for a month or I wouldn't have bought the other one...oops) and it works on the tv w/ full mirroring
Still a no-go on the monitor - it does the same as the other adapter. The phone and monitor both know it's connected, but only occasionally flashes of video appear and rather than any mirroring, the phone just says "play a video or slideshow" (which does not work).
So I guess the moral of the story: if you have an HTC EVO V 4G from Virgin Mobile (which is more or less the same phone as the EVO 3D) and you want to hook it up to a computer monitor: good luck! I mean, I'll test some more with other monitors on this new adapter but not getting my hopes up. Will post any positive findings, tho...
On the other hand, if you want to hook it up to a TV, it's just a matter of finding the right adapter...in my case, it was pretty much luck of the draw. One worked; the other did not. Maybe the other one will magically start working or will work with one of the new TVs I bought, but we'll see...
Anyway, here is the specific adapter that is working for me: not allowed to post links. Sorry! You all lose. Thank you spammers.
you also need to be on jellybean, or higher for the hdmi to work I do believe, otherwise the phone os if below doesnt recognize or work for hdmi out. the jellybean update made it so anyphone with micro usb out should be able to connect to hdmi with the mhl adapter.
I think its simply a matter of analog vs digital video signal. A computer monitor will need a digital video signal but a TV will be happy with either analog or digital. And I'd guess the output of the MHL adapter is analog.

MHL/HDMI issue

I bought this adapter from Samsung when I first got my Galaxy S3 and it's been and still working great on my TV.. I just purchase a new TV and it refuses to detect the signal from the adapter. So I tried on another TV, and same thing, it doesn't work... I came back to my old TV, and it works! I am not sure what's going on and how it works on one TV and not others? I have tried on 4 TVs and only 1 works...
Does anyone have a similar issue and have any idea why? I want to know.
Thanks.
PS: I searched and couldn't find any thing related, it's either didn't work at all or just works.
Do you have a I9300/ I9305 ???
jje
If the TV is new then it should have the MHL circuit included, your phone can't connect to it without it. Every TV I've ever tried has worked perfectly, there are no settings to adjust -it should just work.
Only other suggestions are, tried a different usb lead/power supply to the hdmi lead? Reboot the phone while plugged into the TV? Test another phone or lead on the samevTV.

Very strange WIFI problem

I have a Galaxy S2 I9100 which I'm using as a media center at the moment. The problem I have is that my WIFI speed more than halfs when I connect the MHL adapter which I need to connect the phone to my TV. The signal doesn't change at all, I use WIFI analyzer and it shows the signal is unchanged whether MHL is connected or not. But a speed test shows a slower more inconsistent download the moment the "HDMI connected" notification appears.
Without MHL connected my test shows 4Mbps and goes through the test consistently with no hitches and all, my videos/streams play perfectly. As soon as I connect MHL the speed test goes to 1.5 at best and also stops and starts during the test. My videos/streams take longer to start and often freeze. I even tried starting a test, it was running fine at 4Mbps as usual, then connecting MHL during the test and as soon as that "HDMI connected" notification appears the test drops down towards 1Mbps and stalls repeatedly. Its really quite bizarre.
I'm using an official HDMI adapter, my wireless security is set to 2.4Ghz B/G and I've tried numerous channels all with no change. I have security on WEP, because at first I thought WPA2 was causing the problem, but I also tried no security again with no change. No doubt its not a WIFI signal problem though as WIFI Analyzer has since shown me.
My current ROM is Optimus 4.0 XWLSW. I decided on this because unlike a lot of other ROMs it supports MHL TV out. So if anyone has any suggestions on another good MHL compatible ROM to try please let me know. Any other suggestions welcome, cheers.
Having the same issue with a Galaxy Nexus using a Samsung MHL device. Haven't found any solutions but I am seeing the same issues as you in terms of speed.
