I heard that is paint on back & sides and that is so vulnerable..

I have the same question.
The X review video- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAqHhCbWS4g at 3:26 shows, that the Lime Gold painted side is scratched and below the paint is the plastic and kind of yellow body visible.
Is the X body made of same color plastic as it is painted? As scratched Graphite Black would look very bad if the plastic below is yellow.

Graphite black x/xa/xp are not yellow underneath more of a clear/greyish plastic, they'll use yellowish plastic on the lime gold to make the colour pop out more and to make small marks less visible for a guess..

Ok, but if You know that, does this mean that Your phone side panel is also already scratched?

[Q] Peeling off paint

Just wondering if the frame paint is not peeling off?
The reason is that I put a full tight protected silicone case, but I need to take it of regularly for charging purpose as I also use magnetic dock (I don't want to sacrifice my USB flap, either).
I heard that the upper and bottom parts of the frame are made of painted plastic.
Is it peeling off after some time?
I believe that the whole frame is anodised aluminium, I got that from the info-graphic published by sony, and the fact that mine has gone for a skate and the bottom bezel looks not to be plastic.
No peeling I dropped mine and on top of the frame I got a deep scratch but it's still black so no peeling
Sent from my C6833 using xda app-developers app
Not even a scratch or anything. The frame is still black.

My phone drop off and hit a corner, and the corner is peeling, but under that peeling it's still black, i think it have a thin coat of something like glossy barnish or something like that.
And the buttons... The buttons are a completeliy deception, here you have a picture:
It's like rusty metal.
Mine is peeling, there's a white layer underneath it. (I have a white unit).
I don't know what's coming off - aluminium (is that possible? I guess so) or some paint...

I have a black unit and it feels like powder coating however as in most cases with matte finish the panels on my device has started to become glossy after the grease on my hands rubbing and rubbing against the surface in long term. Just like a keyboard become glossy after years of typing..
Question for you people that have scratches on it. How? How are you doing this? I've had mine since release and I have zero scratches or marks on the body, and I've never used a case or anything on it. Never.
So the question is; are you guys throwing it around and putting it in places with keys and other stuff, because I don't understand how it's possible to make the power button as ugly as Confus3d's button.
- Yes, I use my Ultra as my main phone, and I have it with me wherever I go
- Never used any protection
- Yes, it has hit the floor a couple of times
- Yes, I take it with me and use it when I'm out on town... not being sober.
Still after this, I don't have a single scratch. You guys must be throwing it around like a ball

I use the phone without case and only have scratches in the back and a little bit in the lense glass, and i don't know why my button is rusted, because i've never used the phone in the water.
My last phone was an iphone 4s and two years later the buttons are perfect!
I use it very carefuly, in fact the phone has kiss the floor only once and it was a friend (a stupid friend).
I think the button has some kind of paint on it, but i'm prety sure that it's not an aluminium button
I've used mine with and without case only scratch is on top and I drop it like 2 meters from me getting out from a car rest of the phone looks brand new and I have it from last year when they put this baby on sale
Actually I'm impress by the build quality also use it as daily phone so no problem here the top scratch is my fault and survived marvellous without case
I don't have screen protector and not a single scratch
Very happy with it waiting for zu2

I used the KLD Icelandic case and now the KLD Enland case.
Have had quite a few drops (~10) with most being only 2-2.5 ft (the height of my bed lol [emoji12])
There is 'peeling' on the corners of the phone due to friction between the corners of the phone and the corner of the case. There is one (relatively speaking) giant area of peel off in the lower part of the front edge. It is kind of 'contained' within the microphone slit.
I'd send pics, but it is 3:30am out here, you'll have to wait for 4-5 hours more [emoji16].
Edit: The power button is spotless, BTW.

Could it possible that the white version is made from plastic, while the black is fully anodized aluminium?
Mine is also white.
Looking forward for the pictures, warfareonly... Thanks.

The top and bottom panel is plastic while the sides are made of aluminum. Plastic to probably help the antennas. At least on the black version.

It's true, you can check it easily with a coin. Smash the sides and hear the sound it makes. Top and bottom are plastic sond while sides are aluminium!

This means, we cannot avoid peeling paint on top and bottom parts of the frame. It will peel off, eventually. :crying:
The question now: how to make it last longer...?
I realize, this is a thing that I don't like from Sony. I have some Sony gadgets, most of the chrome painted parts are peeling off...

Are the sides of the black XZU aluminium?

As the title asks...
I know it's definitely aluminium with the white variant, just want to confirm it's the same with the black
Its not all aluminum BTW. At first I thought so too until my 1year old son dropped my phone and it got a scuff on the top corner. I can now see that its painted. The left and right sides are aluminum but the top and bottom bezel is PC plastic, something that is rarely ever mentioned. And I assume the black version is the same only it will be less obvious because the plastic underneath would also be black.

Ah that's interesting to know, thanks.
Anyone have a black one can confirm that both the sides are aluminium and not just painted plastic?
theyre painted plastic with some aluminum panels on the side probably for the antennas.
you can tell which panels are aluminum or plastic by the lighting and reflection the panels give off.
i have a white one and noticed it a while back, i think the frame inside is aluminum though.
The Google Play description for the device says it's made of glass fibre polyamide, not metal.

CASEBASE tempered glass 0.24mm

I've recently purchased some black glass screen protectors from CASEBASE.
Fitment is perfect no issues for me.
I do believe they are thinner than others or at least 1 of the thinnest.
They are £6.99 for 2 on ebay.
Just giving you the heads up to protect your op5's
If you found this useful tap thanks
Managed to take some photos on a budget tablet (sorry if pictures are not very good quality)
Looks good.
Can't believe the screen protector supplied with my OP5 is shows signs of peeling. I haven't even taken it out of the box yet!

Wow that's terrible!
No peeling on this what so ever and it seems to fill the screen more than that 1.
I've never applied a tempered glass before. Easy enough?
I remember trying to apply a screen protector to my LG G2 once, such a nightmare, to avoid those little air bubbles.... lol.

That looks pretty good. I've bought some to try. At £6.99 for two it is worth the risk.
Is there any overlap/loss of visible screen?

Mine is exactly the same with a slight lift along the bottom edge of the screen. The 3T I had briefly was much worse as the lift was top and bottom.
It's the curse of the 2.5D screen and a slightly misaligned or badly sized protector.

Yep, I guessed that.
The protector on my OP3 thought it still firmly in place. No lifting anywhere.

No I've not noticed any loss of screen none that I'm aware off as I make sure the screen is lit up when I'm installing it.
There's certainly no lift it fits perfect.
Hopefully some other buyers will be able to give there opinion on it too soon.
Hello,
there is glue just on the black side of the glass or everywhere (even in the middle) ?
Beside when you look at your phone with a white background, is there some oil effect ?
I got a glass from Orzly and i got all those issues...

There is still a rainbow effect unfortunately. From reviews of the orzly that also has the rainbow effect. Maybe there will be revisions to eliminate this we hope so anyway.

Do you find the screen hard to see in sunlight with this protector on? I seem to struggle to see and brightness is on full. Also I have started to see some bleed on the edges. Do you think the CASEBASE is exactly the same as orzly ? As if orzly is better I might purchase that.

No, there will be not. Okay well if they change adhesive/glue type.
Working thing would need to entire tgsp be adhesive. Or maybe Whitestone style, they have somekind of different glue system which you dry with UV lamp.
But really oil slick comes because glass is just touching screen part thanks to glue on the sides only. So it leaves really small gap between tgsp and glass and if you havent cleaned your screen like some sort un-humam/robot which is really impossible, there will be oil slick.. Maybe not right after you have installed it but soon. Some manufacters (like Orzly) makes "dots" to prevent oil slick. It basically lift really really littlebit tgsp from phone's glass surface so tgsp wouldnt touch screen surface. But then people are crying about visible annoying dots on tgsp.
Thats why Oneplus official tgsp is adhesive from entire glass. But because of OP3/3T/5 style (glass starts bending before screen ends) they needed to cut about 0.4mm from both side with protectors black borders to not produce halo.
So none of methods what different manufacter use, isnt good enough...
Oh i forgot ones without black borders. Either they will end before screen ends or they will cover entire screen but leaves on sides.

They had the matrix dots on the CASEBASE but they don't seem to help the rainbow affect. Whitestone is the way to go I was tempted to get that kit for my s8+ but I found a protector that worked for the s8 even with its big curve.
I'm very surprised there isn't any perfect 1s for oneplus 5. The CASEBASE is close but not quite there. Fitment in it is good.
I think I'll end up with some tpu on it ?

Yeah dots should theoretically help on oil slick and prevent them but it wont delete those entirely and my personal opinion is that it wont help at all.
Orzly's last year model for 3/3T had also dots and oil slick so im not confident that it would be better for this They still have dots, thats what i know for sure

What company the tempered glass is of?

Redmi Note 8 tempered glass which hides redmi logo

hi, for some reason this redmi logo / font on the bottom of the screen really annoys me. I'm looking for a tempered glass with black borders which could hide this. most got a thin border or cut out which still shows the logo.

I tried permanent marker under the tempered glass but it's like writing on on greasy surface. small black piece of paper but it lifted the tempered glass and made a bubble. I think paint under glass will get also a bubble, paint on glass proably wash out over time.
now I ordered this one: https://aliexpress.com/item/4000339283735.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.794b4c4dVtRKYE
if you check the feedback there are some photos of not applied tempered glass for note 8, which has black border which looks like 2mm thicker than my glass, I think that might hide it.
if someone is interested https://aliexpress.com/item/4000845015048.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.14154c4d5BWsQz this one hides the redmi font.

Question I scratched my green S23 ULTRA metal frame. Any way to find the paint to fix?

I am looking for a creative way to fix my S23 ULTRA green color scratches. Its very minor but I have OCD and it bothers me. Does anyone know where I can find the green paint to cover the scratch? The scratch is on the metal frame that attaches to the front glass.
It's likely anodized. Use an indelible magic marker that's the same color or a little darker to hide it.
Case it before you destroy it... these are heavy phones that wuv to corner hit and face plant.

Bad surface prep by Samsung... their QC has been going downhill.
Use a black marker and call it good.
