Newbie wants help to develope - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I wanted to compile my own AOSP ROM for my LG K7 (which still doesn't have a custom rom for it made yet). I read through some tutorials, with most saying to build with the device tree. Where is the device tree for a device, and how would I build on it to make a rom for the device?
Thanks for tolerating my newbiness

You will need to start with Cyanogenmod's tutorial on building/porting ROMs. It's probably the best resource I've found so far on porting a ROM to a device that has no custom ROM yet.
wiki (dot) cyanogenmod (dot) org/w/Doc:_porting_intro
I've been trying to work on it with what little time I have but I keep getting stuck. Hope you'll have better luck than me.

Building a ROM from scratch, guide?

Are there any guides that show the user how to create a rom from scratch? I've seen multiple guides on creating a rom but they do so using the kitchen. I would prefer something that shows how to make a rom without a crutch.
please help

I would say the best way to make a ROM from scratch is to compile it from source. If your interested in learning how to compile a ROM from source I would recommend taking a look at this guide to building Jelly Bean from source, as well as Google's offcial documentation on building Android from source. Additionally this guide on Zip Based ROM tweaking is a good guide to take a look at. Let me know if you still have any questions .

Normally all device forums have tutorials on how to compile ROM from source(if someone has already compiled it).
If no development has yet started for your phone then you you need to create the device tree which is tough. Otherwise just google . There are lots of tutorials lying on xda.

I'm wanting an AOSP ROM on my s5 g901f but there is no support at all. Could someone point me in the right direction? I'd like to have a go and have looked up porting but I don't think that is the way to go. If somebody could give me the steps what I need to do for this modal I will research.
Could I use the cm for note 4 as it has similar specs, ie
805, 420 etc. Or s5 g900 as a base ROM? Or would I need to build from scratch?
There is only one custom ROM for g901f and that's touchwiz so somebody please help before I go insane. Touchwiz really is that bad
Up for this. Really interested especially for us who has not so good programming skills

Let's see if I can point you in the right direction! Because of the differences in specs between your S5 Plus and the regular S5 you can't use that to port ROM's. For the Note 4 idea, since you only have a Touchwiz ROM as your base (The one from your S5 Plus) it won't work properly for the port ROM (CM12 Note 4). I would recommend looking at compiling CM12 for your device, which I would recommend taking a look at this guide here. Let me know if you have any questions be happy to help you out.

Building a custom ROM with AOSP

Hello,
I'm new to Android modding and I already read many guides, tutorials, etc. But every time people build a new ROM they don't use the AOSP but the CM source. So I like to build a clean, not modified ROM from the AOSP sources but when I tried the first time, I didn't know what I need to do because Google's guide only tells about how to build the ROM for a Nexus device and not for mine (I'm using the Motorola Moto G 2014 as primary device).
So first of all, is it possible to build the AOSP for my device or do I have to make any modifications in sources (or it is for one person just not possible to port the AOSP to my device) ?
If it is possible, what do I have to do? Is there any guide or tutorial how to build the AOSP for a non Google phone in general?
Thanks for responses

Need help to start Android Engineering

I am completely new to Android Engineering and want to learn it. Till now, I have tried building aosp oreo from repo. It is built successfully but I don't know about the use of all the folders that are downloaded by the repo. What is the use or importance of each folder in repo? Where can I learn more about this?
I have also modified my stock firmware (only removed some bloatware apps) and rebuilt the firmware. I haven't installed it yet. I used android kitchen which helped me with signing the zip but I am afraid the signature might be for testing and not the official vendor signature. I have phone with unlcoked bootloader but it's still on stock recovery. According to my knowledge, unlocking bootloader helps us to flash unofficial files but people at XDA say that we should also have custom recovery to flash custom ROMs. Should I flash the modified ROM built by me in device with stock ROM and unlocked bootloader?
My device doesn't have official TWRP support. How can I port recovery or build it from scratch for my phone?
Also, I have only modified stock ROM and need to learn porting ROMs like porting MIUI for my device. How can we port ROMs?
Sorry for asking all these at once but I tried getting answer one after another which confused me a lot. I am a noob in this field.
I read XDA thread of TWRP developer which included a guide on how to build TWRP for any device. But as the author said, that post wasn't for noobs. Maybe I need to learn a lot before I reach that level of understanding. But I don't know what to learn and from where. Please help..
And one last thing - What is a device tree? Or vendor tree? I saw these words many times when I was trying to understand the above things. But I still don't know what these are and Google doesn't help. Thank you everyone..
Hi
there is this section here https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software
you`ll find some sticky threads of the top with plenty of info , have a look !
you may also use search and type XDA University , it will reveal also some useful links
Good luck !

How to build a Pie ROM

Hey all. I'd like to know how to build a Pie ROM for my phone (Nexus 6P) I'm trying to build Havoc but I dunno how to proceed. I searched everywhere and there are no guides available for Pie. I can download the Source and then the Device and Kernel and Vendor Trees that have already been made by another Developer for another ROM. However if I try to Brunch, my device doesn't appear in the Menu. I don't know what to do beyond this point. Any and all help will be appreciated. Someone told me that I have to edit the Device Tree to make Compatible with the ROM source but I have no Idea how. So if anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
