What s6 should I buy for Metropcs? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a [email protected] s6 sm-g920a but I can't root it and some feature don't work on my network. Can someone recommend the right phone? Should I get T-mobile?

Yes, the T-Mobile or official Metro one. Probably a lot easier to get the T-Mobile one, but I don't think the wifi calling and/or tethering would work, if you need those features. You should be able to fix the tethering with root though.

[Q] Possible To Use T-Mobile LG-G3 with Verizon PREPAID???

I recently did something similar to this...I brought my Verizon Galaxy S4 over to T-Mobile...works perfectly, Wi-Fi Calling and all.
SO, now I'm REALLY hoping I can take my rooted T-Mobile LG G3 (with unlocked bootloader!) over to Verizon!! Does anyone know if this would be possible? I'd definitely prefer to go with Verizon's PREPAID service on it though if I even can. Anybody have any thoughts on whether or not this should work?
Thanks

Not a chance. Not only is it physically impossible as the T-Mobile version does not have the necessary CDMA technology inside to use VZW's service for talk, text, and 3G, but also because VZW doesn't accept phones from other networks on theirs.

[Q] Port wifi calling from T-Mobile Z3 to Z2?

Is anyone thinking of attempting to try and see if a port would work? T-Mobile's wifi calling should work as it's just baked into the ROM. Just picked up a new Z2 off that ebay deal for $399 as I read that the bootloader on the T-Mobile Z3 is not unlockable.
A port should work as long as someone spends the time to do it. I'm gonna try to do it myself because it seems that the Z2 lacks US carrier support on the forums, so not likely going to see any of the current custom ROM makers do it for T-Mobile US.
I have WiFi Calling working perfectly on a Galaxy Note II AT&T version running a T-Mobile ROM (baseband still AT&T). So the usual rumor that only a T-Mobile branded phone can use WiFi Calling is simply not true. Any phone can use the feature as long as you have a T-Mobile SIM card plus a ROM that has the WiFi Calling feature embedded.

That's good to know. I'll keep an eye out to see what you come up with.
Bump with the hopes of someone doing this soon....

At&t LG v10 on tmobile. No hotspot. How to fix?

Hi.
A long time back I had a vz note3 that I used with tmobile and there was a simple thing to do to fix it so when I activated hotspot it didn't look at vz servers but looked at tmobile for the authentication and it would work.
Well I'm in that similar boat again. Now I got an att v10 and I'm on tmobile. It's obviously unlocked but it getting that error where I guess it's contacting AT&T servers for the authentication check for my hotspot.
Anyone know how I can fix this? Foxfi don't work either. Also yes I do have mobile broadband on my tmobile acct.
Thanks
Was your Note 3 rooted? I would think you might be limited with your presently unrootable AT&T V10? Good luck tho, I hope you can find a solution. Have you tried all the third party tethering apps?

Tethering with cricket.

Is there any workaround for using wifi tether? I have cricket and when I try to tether it tries to authenticate through at&t authentication garbage. This phone was given to me for free and I love it besides not being able to change the ROM. It's alright but not being able to tether really sucks.
It happen the same for me, I bought it contract free to use it in my country and with all of these blocks of ATT I can't use a lot of features
I have off topic question will att g5 unlocked work on sprint or verizon

WiFi Tether Trick?

Still on the grandfathered unlimited data plan with Verizon, so no tethering in my plan without Foxfi, etc., which was blocked a while back. With the S7edge, we could do that trick where you eject the sim and enable tethering if you time it right when you push the sim back in... Going to need to find a way to get tethering again... sigh.
I could tether fine with my unlocked Note 8. No FoxFi was required. I just started hotspot from the settings. I am on the grandfathered unlimited plan as well.

If you order thru Samsung website and get the unlocked version there is no WIFI hotspot check so it works right out of the box, plus its cheaper than ordering thru Verizon.
Yea, I'm aware of the unlocked option, though I have heard some reports of some carrier specific features such as VoLTE, voice of wifi, visual voicemail, etc. not working on the unlocked version.
Anyone w/ grandfathered umlimited data on Verizon that has their S9+ that has tried this trick? Picking mine up on Friday...
I've got gUDP with an unlocked s9+ from BB and tethering worked today.
Unlocked S9
I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but just confirming I understand what you guys are saying. With an unlocked Galaxy S9 you can tether right out of the box if you still have the grandfathered unlimited data plan? Is all you do is swap sim card from your old phone? How do you get future os updates and are they going to be updates that won't affect this tethering access? Thanks

That would be updates pushed to unlocked S9/S9+ phones. Those are generally a bit slower than carrier updates, but they do come from Samsung.
Thanks for the info
S9+ unlocked on the way
My S9+ unlocked is on the way, is there anything special I need to do with it after unboxing or just insert sim card, power up and open hot spot? I really appreciate the expert advice from you guys since my knowledge about this stuff is very limited.

Yes all i had to do was insert my verizon sim, and open hotspot and it worked. Now the only thing im missing from the Verizon model is wifi calling, i never used that anyway so its no big deal for me.
Thanks again, just wanted to make sure I didn't mess anything up. Really appreciate the quick response.
Returning S9
Cannot get Wifi to work on the new S9 from verizon. I did a quick search before buying which said foxfi worked but alas NOPE.
So I am going to return the phone to verizon and just wait I upgraded from s4 which was nice for a week!
I have grandfathered unlimited data so my options are limited.
Bought an unlocked s9 plus straight from Samsung and my hot spot worked right away like the guys on here said it would. I don't believe a Version version will let you unless you pay for one of their tethering plans.
Verizon - Samsung S9+ - Unlocked?
I'm picking up my phone through Verizon but they said they would unlock it. I currently have the Galaxy S7 and was doing the sim card trick. Has anyone else tried with the S9+? But if I get "unlocked" I'm wondering if it will work as you guys have mentioned here. So clutch to have your own hotspot when there isn't one or its slow.

Use the unlock version or flash the U1 firmware to get hotspot working
Side question...
I see a stock firmware collection website at www . getdroidtips . com / samsung-galaxy-s9-plus-stock-firmware /
and wondering if it is possible to install stock firmware (without unlock) on a carrier-locked S9/S9+ so that can enable tether on a grandfather unlimited account?
Note: I am on AT&T grandfather unlimited plan and AT&T does not allow me to tether.

All firmware are carrier branded,
To bypass AT&T tethering you can either use an APP or use the U1 firmware.

Hi Kevin- I verified with verizon that i have an unlocked phone but they said with my old grandfathered plan (been with verizon over 10 years) I would have to pay $30 for tethering. Is this a good tutorial to flash the U1 firmware to U?

Thank you for the help.
