CyanogenMod 14 - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can someone build a CyanogenMod 14 rom for z2 or Port one of CyanogenMod 14 Roms from other Sony phones ? Thanks in advance

Even AOSP N for Z2 is not stable at the moment and so the stability and possibility for CM14 will be greatly questionable.

No offence but what I think is that if we move on to CM14 without fixing the known bugs and there will be a mix of CM bugs and AOSP bugs, which, from my point of view, will be even more harder to debug.

There isn't even a cm 13 yet..

Anything beyond CM12.1 / AOSP 5.1 is anything but stable. But there's an official Android 6.x ROM out from Sony, but that doesn't help us much, as there's missing source code, like always, with every manufacturer.

I'm still in shock why Sony hasn't released the source code for z2, and I'm on official Android 6.0.1 & Google camera doesn't work for me, does this mean sony isn't releasing the source code because he doesn't have the source code

No, definitely not. SONY cannot release the N source code for Z2 is not due to his company's plan, it is due to hardware limitation. In Z2, we don't have OpenGS EL 3.1 that supports Vulkan but Google GPL license demand all devices that can have official OEM support on Android N to have Vulkan compatibility, that's why we cannot have any official source code on N despite the fact that Z2 can actually run N without any problems.

There must have something mistaken. The SONY AOSP team can never work on making Cyanogenmod. Moreover GPL rules restricted SONY from releasing Android N officially to Z2.

It'd be really increadible to see working Lollipop on Xperia P, a 2012 phone with newest software? I'll take it The devs don't have all the source codes for hardware, so I imagine optimizing for our devices won't be buttery smooth (as it isn't with Kitkat either)

AOSP Android 7.x Nougat ROMs possible on LG G2 (like CyanogenMod 14 for example)?

Hey guys,
do you think we will ever see AOSP Android 7.x Nougat ROMs for the LG G2, like CyanogenMod 14 for example?
Do you think Android 7 can properly run on the LG G2?

Yea, maybe after a month or two (After N comes out) we'll have a basic port, then a few months later a stable ROM, G2 can handle anything

As long there are developers for lg g2, I think everything is possible.
BlissRom 7 will be CM14 so yeah we will get that in future time
YES YES, when full code drop and cyanogen start nighlys
Android 7.0 Nougat has been released:

Let's hope they release the AOSP source code soon.
Would be nice if the LG G2 would get AOSP 7.0 / CM 14.0.
Nougat looks really nice .
When CM14 arrives, I think g2 will receive it in a week
Well it does not matter to me, I rather have a bug free MM than N filled with bugs due to old g2 blobs
6 months into MM cm13 and we still have some bugs due g2 old kernel/drivers source....so

Very highly unlikey. Qualcomm has depreciated msm8974 and will not be providing updates for things like the Vulkan API, and I doubt LG will work on updating a 3-4 year old device that requires a ton of work.

No. Le will never release kernel sources. So you will never have pure CM roms. The CM roms will be based on official ones like 16S, 17S etc.

Yes I guess, its just this is the key reason whether I decide to buy this phone or not, dont want to be stuck with chinese roms in the future.
Hi,
Well we already have resurrection remix which is more than decent.
OK... Maybe with a precompiled kernel but still.
I use it as a daily driver and encountered no problems so far except for a slightly too high battery drain.
But a device tree would allow to build other ROMs which would be really cool...

Also, I recommend checking htcmania Spain forum, because Parasite_remix is cooking Mooke and CM13 ROMs with 17S firmware.

Hi,
With the custom kernel, that one can be "optimized" for the device and all missing drivers can be added. At least, that is what I have been told but I'd be glad to be proven wrong.
For the htcmania link : thanks a ton, but I don't think I'll use it.
I sold the x820. Battery drain was really too high and even with moderate use, I could barely get through the day
Finding a replacement was tough, but I am trying the Xiaomi mi5 and Moto X Style (Pure) to see if they can do the job...
Both have flaws the x820 had not. And I honestly must admit that I am missing the x820 already
Regards.

There are a few problems with using prebuilt kernels.
1. Upstream changes in Android source code might need related kernel changes, if you don't have the kernel source you can't do this.
2. For the same reason, you may be stuck on old android versions if the kernel isn't compatible with newer versions
3 Vendor may have customized some android frameworks and made related kernel changes. As CM wouldn't have these changed frameworks, some features may not work (although this doesn't appear to be an issue with this phone as the CM builds for it seems to be fully functional)

[Sony] Xperia Open Devices Project

Sony Mobile is committed to supporting the open developer community, and one way to show this is by publishing parts of our code as well as selected tools developed by our internal developers.
For some of the Xperia™ devices, we provide Android™ Open Source Project (AOSP) device configurations on GitHub. This means that the software will be open for you as a developer to use and contribute to. This is a way for us to support the open Android community, and it is also a tool for us to facilitate and verify contributions to AOSP.
