AUDIOPHILE | AROMA
DISCLAIMER | READ
I am not responsible for anything that may happen to your phone as a result of installing custom roms and/or kernels. You do so at your own risk and take the responsibility upon yourself.
"This is a user friendly thread. All feature requests will be heard and considered. I am not against anything that doesn't stray too far away from the original idea of the ROM! Helping one another is also encouraged! Please be respectful and you will always be treated the same way, we are all here for a good experience."
ABOUT | INSTRUCTION
This here is my personal setup and thought i'd share. Usually i test extensively before releasing to public, but if you do find something detrimental to the usage of your device that is either Force Closing or simply not working, let me know and i will in turn inform whether that is something i will tend to.
Project-X is made for Music geeks like me, its main focus is stability and Audio. It is Based off latest firmware currently, and will always be using the most up to date firmware base. It aims to bring stability and features to your device, while keeping Google's vision in line and not straying too far away from that. If you are looking for a stable ROM with true tested features and minimal bugs, then this is the place to be.

2. Boot into TWRP and make a backup (remove any lock screen security before this, optional but HIGHLY recommended).
3. Wipe cache and dalvik cache (optional).

F.A.Q | FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do i request feature, review or submit bug report?
For requesting a feature, go here.
For review, go here.
For submitting errors and bug reports, go here.
I get [app name] force close message on dirty flash? What to do?
The way Android handles permissions has changed from marshmallow, so first see if you have given all the required permission to the app through Settings>Apps. This should fix the problem. If not then-
Reboot to TWRP recovery.
Wipe system, cache, and dalvik cache in Wipe > Advanced Wipe.
Flash Project-X zip.
Flash GApps zip.
Reboot to system.
When i open AM3D app, it shows white screen then crashes? What to do?
AM3D audio enhancement requires a strict permissive selinux and if you choose Late Autumn kernel you won't have this problem. If you choose some other kernel then there is a workaround for it. First set your selinux to permissive by modded kernel adiutor or selinux mode changer and then just a do a soft reboot. You should get AM3D working now.
Why does xposed installer says as 'firmware is not active'?
The installer just installs the apk in system/data and I am currently working getting xposed firmware installed at the starting only. Till then you need to flash the xposed zip manually.
Where is AdAway?
If you flashed mother of ad blocking, then that is what you flashed, not AdAway. These are different things. MoaAB is a simple replacement of your stock hosts file that in turn blocks ads.
Why is my battery life crap?
Start by looking at your custom kernel, or by looking at user apps you use. Also simply constantly watching your battery is a battery drainer. The rom is seldom at fault with battery drain problems, and if it is to blame, then it is most probably and upstream google issue and not Project-X.
How do I install Project-X?
To install Project-X, you will need a custom recovery (preferably TWRP). After that, you will need to do a clean install, which is starting completely fresh (losing all of your apps and data). A clean flash consists of backing up your important data, booting into TWRP, wiping system, data, cache, and dalvik cache, then flashing the ROM and the recommended GApps. You will not lose your files (photos, music, other media) as long as it is in your internal storage folder (/sdcard, /data/media, or /storage/emulated/0). This process is expanded upon in the installation guides located at the top of this post.
How can I update Project-X?
If it is not a major Android update (like from Marshmallow to Nougat) or another major reason to clean flash, you should be okay to dirty flash (flash just the ROM zip without wiping anything). Always find the latest installation post (linked at the top of this post) and read to see if there were any reasons to clean flash (like a rebase or major change). Furthermore, I keep my installation guides at the top of this post up to date with the latest info. ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP AND PLEASE CLEAN FLASH BEFORE REPORTING MAJOR ISSUES.
When will Project-X get an update (for the new security patch, etc)?
This shouldn't even be a question you are asking on XDA as ETAs are forbidden due to the free nature of the work provided. However, I aim to have the update merged as quickly as possible and then released relatively soon. Keep in mind I have to also manage my studies so releasing is not a trivial task.
Should I flash GApps on a dirty flash?
I don't recommend it. For some people it is habit and they never experience issues; others do it and have massive force quits on startup that are only solved via a clean install. Even if there is a new GApps package available, they are updated through the Play Store and you don't lose them on a dirty flash like with some other ROMs because there is a backup tool. There is no need to flash them.
Should I wipe system when doing a dirty flash?
I would not recommend it. When you wipe system, your GApps are erased as well but their data remains in the data partition. When you reflash GApps, the GApps data may be for a newer version, causing issues. Updating through the Play Store may resolve this but just trust the dirty flashing process and don't do any wipes other than caches when dirty flashing.
How can i improve my sound experience more?
You can improve the sound quality more by downloading the audiophiles from here. If you want to replicate my setup then the detailed instructions are given here.

BTW i have to say you did a great job on the kernel, I am fully impressed with it and will be looking for further updates. Just keep the Selinux to Permissive only, it helps audiophiles like me.

Added to my to-do list.

I installed this rom and the performance is awesome. But I have some problems with jerrica and berserk kernel with this rom. Both give me corrupted sd Card when I format as internal storage. With lateautumm kernel everything is fine, expect for a kernel bug, but it's not a rom bug.

Dude,is both sim slot 4g supported? And can I flash on lolypop bootloader?

hello sir, please make a video how to install project x rom

What is this?
This is CyanogenMod 12 (based on JustArchi/arter97) with many features from the well known CM12S/Cyanogen OS 12 and CM11S made for the OnePlus One. All Apps are successfully ported from CM11S for the i9300 Galaxy S3 and much more (read at features). The OnePlus One has a great Rom and why not giving the features to you all? I am only the Publisher of the CM12.1 based rom! Keep in note that Kevin210898 is the developer. I am helping him with support and more! So if you have probelms ask me. I have also contact to the dev.

A: No! You will get many many Force Closes, Bugs, and much more. Don't do this!
Q: How to get root access back or is this rom not rooted?
A: This rom is rooted, please enable Developer Options (Tap 7 times on build number in about phone), go to it and enable root access. You can enable there also the Quick Boot feature.
If you don't want to use CM's root access, please flash SuperSu in recovery.
Q: Rom installation/update failed, why?
A: TWRP Recovery is highly recommended for use! CWM is out of date and not made for Android 5.X! So try again with this Recovery. When it still does not work to UPDATE, try again with a Clean Flash!
Q: How do I get on-screen buttons with this rom/how can I activate them?
A: Open CM FileManager (pre installed on your device) and give it root access by opening options and choose mode from safe to root. Then go to /system and open build.prop, once it is opened got to the end and type in: qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
Q: My battery isn't that good and the phone laggs a bit.
A: See more at "How to improve Battery" in OP Thread.
Also make a clean flash with the newest version or try Boeffla Kernel. Don't forget the Boeffla Config App for better control etc!
Q: I am on CM12.1 based and want to switch to Nameless based (or the other way). Is a clean flash needed?
A: YES!
MORE ARE COMING SOON!
Sorry, but I am confused. You had beta2 for this rom, what happened to that? And why flash 1 & then 1.1,why can't it be one flashable file?
Thanks for your time and efforts

Ok, I will add the feature from release 1.
You have to flash Build one and after that V1.1 becaue this is only a small update, it was not necessary to build the whole new rom.
Beta 2 was from CM12.1S, this project is now dead and wont recieve updates, because the rom had many bugs and it was not possible to add all OnePlus One apps, because they were made for CM12 and not for CM12.1, this is why there is now this thread. Sorry, pretty annoying, I understand that.
EDIT: You can now see all added features in Build one, go to Changelog and show old versions.
I am a bit confused.
Is this rom just normal CM12 but with the CM12S apps,or a completely pure CM12S port?

We are currently working on a Bug fix for Camera. Try to use Google Camera instead until we publish the Update.
Have you installed the Build 2 1.1 update? It seems that you have not, because in this build OTA was deleted, in Build 1 it is inside.
One Theme has to be empty because this is the default theme. The other One should be a OnePlus One theme, should work in next builds.
Panorama mode should be fixed in newest update.
As I can see that there are many Problems with the Update we will publish for now only whole updates with whole Rom, not these small ones anymore.
Added Camera2 means the new Camera with fixes.
Thanks for logcat and the answers!
@mcqaissi Can I use your Screenshots in the OP Thread Section?

What is this?
This is CyanogenMod 12.1 (based on Lysergic Acid CM12.1) with many features from the well known CM12.1S/Cyanogen OS 12.1 and CM11S made for the OnePlus One. All Apps are successfully ported from CM12S for the i9100 Galaxy S2, Quick Boot funktion is working very well and much more (read at features). The OnePlus One has a great Rom and why not giving the features to you all? That's the great reason why there is now CM12.1S for the S2.
The Rom has all features from Official CM12.1 and much more features are added, too.
I am the Maintainer and Developer of this Rom, but my work is based on Unofficial CyanogenMod 12.1 from Lysergic Acid

Q&A:
Q: I cant flash this rom, my internal memory / Sytsem partition is too small.
A: Please increasy your system partition first, here is a good guide
Q: Can I dirty flash CM12.1S over Unofficial CM12, CM11 older versions or other Roms?
A: No! You will get many many Force Closes, Bugs, and much more. Don't do this!
Q: Why do I have to flash two parts of this rom to get one rom?
A: Since M2 my rom is based on official cm nightlies, and on official cm nightlies the folders inside /system are hide (not able to edit). Part 1 is mainly the rom and part 2 is the /system folder for this rom.
So try again with this Recovery by flashing the Kernel after the Rom. When it still does not work to UPDATE, try again with a Clean Flash!
---> Q: How to get TWRP on i9100 S2
---> A: Please download twrp-recovery-flashable.zip from download section and flash it on your device
Q: I want to test the RR based build, where is it?`
A: It was moved to the "Other" Folder in GDrive.

Rom is in progress. As it is based on CyanogenMod 12.1 it will have some issues.
I can't say which issues it has, I have to test and also I need testers. We will see more by tomorrow. Stay tuned.
But I can say it should be pretty stable and has no nasty or annoying bugs. But keep in mind: First release is BETA. Hope to get a stable version soon

This Rom will come with Apollo Kernel and the Config App pre installed. I think this is the best for our great i9100.
Wait until tomorrow. Then you can test the rom with Apollo Kernel.
But I don't understand your question, what do you mean with will the cyangon 3.0.64-cm-g526d694 kernel work? This is the kernel of your current rom.
Every rom brings is own (maybe sometimes similar) Kernel.
When you are on unofficial CM12 you will have to do a clean flash with this rom.

Sorry auto correct. I meant its build02. I'm pretty sure it can with my ROM as currently I running cm11 snapshot but not the latest version as had issues with that one. My real question is, does the ROM come with the kernel and gapps included?

This rom is debloated, meaning i have removed...
Google apps, there are google apps that are avaliable on the play store that have been removed.
How to install...
The usual thing here, I use TWRP so can only recommend that recovery, but i am sure you will be fine with others.
If coming from another Version Base, vendor.img may need to be flashed.. Do this BEFORE flashing the rom!
Make sure WETA zip file is in your internal SD card, and head to recovery and flash the rom zip file. Reboot.
ENCRYPTED DEVICES - If you have your data partition encrypted, and you have set a "Device pin" you are going to have issues with system UI unless you disable device pin in security settings before flashing rom.

***V4a, Dolby and weta reboot will only work with magisk if you set magisk to permissive.
8.2
PLEASE READ (applies to magisk users only)- because the permissive setting is stored within the magisk.img.. if you backup data then wipe and restore data after the rom flash then you wont get permissive by default.
These are your options... 1, go into root explorer and delete /data/magisk.img before you go to twrp to backup
or 2, dont restore a backup
or 3, if you have already downloaded and installed V8.2 and a backup, you can dirty flash 8.2 over the top to fix problem
or 4, i dont usually recommend this, but dirty flashing should be fine this time around

Common Questions
How do i hide stock battery?
How do i mod NavBar?
- Both of these can be found in system ui tuner. You activate this by swiping down the notification pull down and pressing and holding the settings cog until it vibrates.
This turns on a new menu in Settings called systemui tuner, its all in there. If the cog doesnt vibrate. You may need to change your animation scales back to 1x within dev settings.
SystemUI keeps crashing
- Most likely this is a theme issue, especially after a dirty flash. Uninstall all themes and the apps. Flash vendor.img, wipe dalvik and cache, and rom again.
If its happening at boot time right when your device is asking for a password, then you need to flash stock rom and disable device boot security pin. Its a problem with encrypted devices and modified SystemUI.apks
Why is my battery life crap?
- Start by looking at your custom kernel, or by looking at user apps you use. Also simply constantly watching your battery is a battery drainer. The rom is seldom at fault with battery drain problems, and if it is to blame, then it is most probably and upstream google issue and not WETA.
Where is AdAway?
- If you flashed adblocker, then that is what you flashed, not AdAway. These are different things. Adblocker is a simple replacement of your stock hosts file that in turn blocks ads.
How do i get Stock clock back? How do i remove adblocker? How do i get stock NavBar height back? How do i Get A.R.I.S.E back?
- This is so simple and if you ask any of these types of questions... then i slappa yo face..
Just dirty flash the rom again. Select what you want
What is WETA Audio?
WETA Audio is an alternative to flashing with A.R.I.S.E. It replaces A.R.I.S.E with my own setup consisting of V4A (2.5.0.5 or 2.3.4.0, optional Dolby Atmos and drivers and effects from Sony, HTC and ALSA drivers. Its a more simplistic approach to what A.R.I.S.E offers which some people were requesting. Its my go to setup now also.
mentalmuso, can you add advanced reboot menu to power button? can you add volume skip track functionality?
- Short answer, No. This rom is built from stock prebuilt google images and is the reason why its mostly so stable. mods like this require building the rom from source code, which is something im not prepare to dive into at this stage. It takes too much time out of my life and requires a bigger SSD hard drive than i have at this time. Maybe ill have interest in this in the future, if i lose my job or something.
mentalmuso can you add CM visualizer to navbar?
- This mod requires the system to have signature check verification to be disabled. Although its a cool mod, thats one security risk i wont implement.
Why is there no SuperSU app, or Why is there no PHH superuser app?
- The root apps get installed to the /data partition at installation. This means sometimes there is a conflict as you may have left over data from a previous installation. This can be remedied by simply finding the app you need on the play store and installing it. No big deal. The Root binaries would have been installed properly.
Will CMTE be coming to this rom? What about OMS support
CMTE and OMS require a rom to be built from source so commits can be added. I'm not going to build from source.
Where are the extra fonts??!!
stock Android has no way of changing the system font. And WETA can't change that. It pre installs fonts for third party apps to use. Such as 3minit clock

Think I'll give this a try later today. Thanks so much.
Just flashed this rom but getting FC when opening dolby app. Also, in viper, after going through the set up and rebooting, the settings aren't sticking. I mean I'm having to run the set up again and again. Did a fresh install and flashed the latest vendor image after the rom as well.
That's kind of weird, I had no problems what so ever...I tried installing it with center clock and got system ui force closes, but reinstalled with stock settings and everything is fine...can you pull a log for the dev?

Ok, now that you have flashed the Vendor image, you shouldn't need to flash it again as the rom won't format the vendor partition. So im assuming by fresh install you have wiped all data and caches? Are you using the stock kernel that gets flashed with the rom? Flashing the Vendor.img after the rom may actually cause a problem with v4a and dolby just thinking about it.
EDIT: also what rom were you previously on?

- Fixed reboot issues.
- Fixed lags from not needed libraries and kernel commits.
- Added IMS and VoIP support. (Needs testing)
- Fix rmnet (data) issues.
- Dalvik/ART optimizations. Now ROM is more smooth.
- Removed extra governors/io schedulers.
(The provided governors in OC kernels for J5 are for Exynos devices,
so they need extra configuration to be adapted to Snapdragon devices.
Until then, we will use the stock and trusted ones,
but keep overclocking to be enabled by a userspace application).
- Many kernel fixes.
- Framework fixes.
- Audio enhancements.
- Added audio echo cancellation support (AEC) for in-calling audio.
- Added Wifi-Direct and Screen Cast/HDMI support in kernel. (Needs testing)
- Added Volume wake and Home button wake support.
(You can enable/disable these features from Settings->Buttons)
- Merged with latest CM Changes.
September 8, 2016
- Removed On-Screen-Buttons implementation.

- Added DayDream support by default.
(It is a screensaver feature for Android.
You can choose your preference in Settings -> Display & lights -> DayDream)
- PowerHAL fixes.
- Disabled compression of camera images, set quality of Encoder to 100% and increase memCap *4.
(Image sizes are larger, and have better quality)

(You can use software keys for Back/Menu/Options, by enabling it on the first setup screen.
Main keys will be permanently disabled)

- Added option to record in-call voice for all regions.

- Audio effect optimizations. Sound is more crisp.

You must have Lollipop baseband/modem, otherwise things won't work. Make sure you have updated to official 5.1.1 first if you are on Android 6.0.

- Added new frequencies that Samsung had not included for CPU. (200MHz-1401MHz)
- Kernel stability updates.
- Audio low-latency porting to CM.
- Audio FX made the right way. (Audio is loud and crispy now)

- Fixed reboot issues.
- Fixed lags from not needed libraries and kernel commits.
- Fix rmnet (data) issues.
- Dalvik/ART optimizations.
- Removed extra governors/io schedulers.
(The provided governors in OC kernels for J5 are for Exynos devices,

Until then, we will use the stock and trusted ones,
but keep overclocking to be enabled by a userspace application).
- Many kernel fixes.
- Framework fixes.
- Audio enhancements.
- Added audio echo cancellation support (AEC) for in-calling audio.
- Added Wifi-Direct and Screen Cast/HDMI support in kernel. (Needs testing)
- Added Volume wake and Home button wake support.

September 2, 2016

- Added a lot of governors and I/O schedulers.
- Added KernelAdiutor as a built-in application for tweaking parameters.
- Added On-Screen-Buttons implementation similar to qemu.hw.mainkeys=1.
(You can use software keys for Back/Menu/Options, by enabling it on the first setup screen.
Main keys will be permanently disabled)
- Merged with latest CM Changes.
August 20, 2016
- Excluded InputDisabler from build. (Not needed from now on as we found the root of the cause)

- Fixed SD Card issues and corresponding folder creations on boot.
- Added option to secure unmount external SD before removal.
- Added option to record in-call voice for all regions.
- CPU speed/responsiveness optimizations.
- SELinux denial fixes for other variants too.
- Switched to SELinux enforcing, minized kernel messages and ADB secure (needs su command from now on).
- Optimized latency for audio HAL. No drop-outs from now on.
- Audio effect optimizations. Sound is more crisp.
- Excluded zRAM.
(zRAM caused not needed CPU overhead and heat issues when on Full Brightness+Mobile Data+GPS)
- TWRP bug-fixes.
- Kernel fixes.
- Merged with latest CM Changes.
- Updated stable release name to 2.0.0

Multi Window Support - J500F
Hi @Nick Verse
First of all, Thank You so much for this awesome rom..
I just have one request..
I'm using J500F (Indian Version)..
Can you add Multi Window Support in the next release of this rom for J500F..??
Thanks in advance..
Just use CM13... lol
Cm 13 is not yet stable, fully working. And dont try to undermine other peoples work.
Hi there
Who can help me to understand and solve the following situation: i want to add spelling romanian language to stock cm12.1 keyboard. Romanian language is available only just as language, for entire operation system, not for spelling purposes (is not in the spelling languages list when i try to add it). So, how can i add it whitout installing another app like Google Keyboard? Is possible?
I use Nicke Verse CM12.1 version from 15.07 on a J500FN.
Best!

Propably CyanogenMod official developers didn't add the spelling feature for Romanian language in the official repository! You can contribute in GitHub on your own if you want, or PM a Developer!

Multi-Window support uses Android API 24, which means you will have to wait for Android 7.0!

I was referring to adding multi-window support... because it's kinda buggy if implemented on Lollipop...
I never undermine anyone's work and am currently using Nick Verse's CM12...
Sorry for the misunderstanding...

It was a relevant answer to the multi-window question. I don't mess anything.
Updated [Downloads Tab]
Updated SM-J500FN. Next is SM-J500F. Download links will be in the downloads tab from now on.
Audio Latency
We have noticed some longer than usual audio delays a long time ago in CM builds from source.
The main concept is to make the builds as fast responding as possible.
- Currently the audio.primary.msm8916 module is a proprietary blob, because without it in-call audio breaks. (related to proprietary Samsung RIL blobs)
- Disabled AUDIO_OUTPUT_FLAG_FAST, as it is constantly denied in logs even when set in native 44100 sampling rate.

Updated SM-J500F
@Nick Verse
Thank you for your awesome work!
I think I'll test the new version later.
By the way, I think you should mention in OP how to download, because some people use the old XDA theme (2010), including me (but I know how to download) and they can't see the project tabs unless they switch to at least 2013 theme.
EDIT:
@Nick Verse : When you go to downloads tab, there is download link. You can put it in OP as direct download link, but people will still have to switch to at least 2013 theme. Maybe you can put the link of downloads tab too. It's your choice
PS: limited to thanks button -_-
