ZTE Axon 7 3140 mAh battery not 3250 mAh as advertised - ZTE Axon 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

Bad Marketing or a Honest mistake?
So I posted this over at the ZTE Z-Community Forums. So far no replies from someone at ZTE or a mod, I do believe this is a US Model.
Based on websites from official ZTE they all have Something quite interesting as battery is not 3250 mAh as advertised by ZTE on all their sites EU, USA and China.

They upped the size of the battery after the preproduction models. The first review samples had 3140, and the production models have 3250.

well Physical Battery is 3140 mAh , apps showing 3100 mAh is 40 mAh different and acceptable, but ZTE advertising 3250 mAh battery capacity, which is 110 mAh different, i'll call that unacceptable on my book

Not this **** again. USA variant is different. Those pics are from early Chinese version but really, does it matter?

These are not from the Chinese variant its clearly not have you seen the video?

Lets not fight guys, get the torches and the forks and we march to ZTE offices for 100mah !!!

Just checked with AIDA64 and it reports a 3100mAh battery... Real battery info, or...?

Just curious, but how do we tell? We didn't really get a good shot of the backside of the device in this repair video.

What really is the difference between 3100 and 3250 in terms of autonomy? I mean, I could change the phone, but it's gonna take days, and well, I'm in love with it, so...
Also, how can we/I be sure that the phone I would receive would have the 3250 battery?

My axon 7, A2017G has 3100 Mha....

to everyone complaining that device check apps such as DevCheck show only 3100mah.
that valua is actually read out from the framework which was defined in an XML file in the overlays.
it does not actually read the _actual_ mah value of the battery.
most OEM define that value to be lower because of the diversity in battery quality.
no battery OEM will ever give you a warrant that the battery will exactly be "3250mah". because they simply cant do that. it will always be 3-5% more or less.
so what _all_ OEM's do they write an lower value in that power-profile overlay for the battery manager.
there is an simple fix for that which requires root.
for those that are not pre-production phones and have a 3250mah (might be even more, we need a proper tear down of a newer model)
unpack framework-res.apk change the value in:
Code:
overlay/frameworks/base/core/res/res/xml/power_profile.xml
that shows
Code:

3100

to
Code:

3250

and here is the proof for the skeptical users:
https://github.com/Hax-on/android_d.../base/core/res/res/xml/power_profile.xml#L118

Hello celoxocis
What do you mean exactly? That programs like Aida64 or CPU-Z actually read data containted into an xml file, and that they don't probe the hardware?
Just asking, cuz I really really love my Axon, no matter what, and it would really sadden me to send it back and replace it. Knowing that I might get the same battery anyway...
Thanx for your reply

Mine also saying 3100 A2017G from Amazon de.
Also at my S7 Edge Samsung said 3600 and it's 3600 according to AIDA or CPUz or Samsung phone info.
So something wrong with ZTE
Not big deal to me as I'm keeping the device as I do like the all package offering despite some software glitches that I don't like and hope being improved in software update.
Battery life is quite good overall and not having complaints about that 1.5 month I'm having the device.

This. I'm betting they simply forgot to update the 3100mAh they wrote in for the original 3140mAh battery. I'm not sure why they would haven't just written in 3140 in the first place, though; it's not like anyone was going to know any better (though I understand what you're saying about batteries not being exact).

I ran same Device Info app on my UK ZTE Axon 7 A2017G phone.
Reported 3100ma.

But also strange CPUz can not utilized the battery capacity at Axon 7 but on S7 Edge not that issue.
Only AIDA can do that at Axon device.
Well just ZTE give the same attention to G version as at U and for me I forgive them
That's matter most of all to me.
Optimizing/polishing the software and having better user experience.
It's already good level but needs some further works from them and eliminate the few glitches having right now.
Here's from 7 Edge
And here's from Axon 7

I agree that EVLeaks has been reliable but the phone in their pics looks like it has a display much larger than 4.99". The phone in the pic looks as big as the N2. That is unless Samsung's only counting usable space vs. including what's dedicated to navigation. If that's it, it certainly doesn't have a lot of personality but I guess when the display is 95% of the front of the phone there's not a lot to work with.
Why is this even in the DNA section?

Wrong forum.
Samsung's build quality doesn't even remotely compare to HTC anyway. And Sense is a million times more attractive than any skin Samsung has developed. So, yawn. Post this in an S3 thread.
How is this possibly the wrong forum? Haters are gonna hate. I've seen multiple thread in here about the HTC One/M7, gaming performance, the Playstation 4, etc, etc., but two of the first four replies say it's the wrong forum? Please. This is general as in generally, anything in reason can be discussed.
Now to respond to the intelligent responses- the aspect ratio and the rumored 4.99" screen size are just rumors. The benchmark that was posted is from an unreleased model number and may never see the day of light. The Note 2 is extremely popular and it makes sense to meld the two lines without a complete merge. This looks like an improved N2 without a pen. Besides, how can the aspect ratio be wrong if the only quasi-official spec on the screen is "full HD?"
It's either a great render or it's legit; look at the camera lens size compared to the N2 and S3: http://versusio.com/en/samsung-galaxy-note-2-vs-samsung-galaxy-s3

Haha.. Because it says "Droid DNA General" at the top, and you are talking about a phone that is not only NOT a Droid DNA, but it isn't even made by the same manufacturer. How is it even remotely the correct forum? Posts about the One/M7 are at least understandable because they are also HTC, and the most recent follow-up to the Droid DNA, and there is not yet a forum dedicated to the One/M7. As I said, your post would be more appropriate in the S3 forum. The only purpose behind posting in this one is to stir up the "haters" to which you refer.

Newer processor. Likely an Exynos 5 octo-core everywhere but the US..... where it will have a snapdragon 600 (same processor as the HTC One) due to US carriers preference of Qualcomm. I could see the US variants getting bumped up to 4GB of RAM.
That being said...... I'll stick with my DNA.
Well this processor talk is not really my cup of tea, well and don't much about it but DNA is fast enough for me and I'm good. How come the op didn't get this excited over the m7. It has the same specs but camera.
Processor may be good but they seriously need to get away from crapoled screens. Figured they would have. And the device in the picture looks to be WAY bigger than 5 inches. It looks Note 2 sized. If that is the case, no dice.

Processor will most likely be a little faster. Not much improvement really. The s4 will probrably have more developer support if your into that kind of thing. Removable battery to upgrade to extended battery or replace the battery if needed.

Merging the lines doesn't make sense. It looks exactly like the note 2. If they wanted to look slow they make a note 5.0... Also full hd means it's going to be 1080p which is a 16:9 aspect ratio. Which it does not have. It's either a ****ty render or a soon to be failed phone. And get ready for the " is that the note 2" question... Also the octa processor has eight cores but only 4 used at once. It has 4 a15 cores and 4a7 cores i believe. The a7 are for lower priority tasks. This is Samsung's attempt to conserve power. But they mislead consumers alot with saying eight cores. I hope the s4 looks like the s3 only a tiny bit bigger at most. Merging with the note looks is retarded

The M7 was a minor refresh to the DNA. It still has the same storage problems and they actually went down in screen size. In these days of them making 60 and 90" HDTVs, HTC is heading in the wrong direction. The M7's camera also went in reverse in camera megapixels, but many are reporting excellent image quality with the new technology it's using. Lastly, even though the battery life on the DNA has been surprisingly good, I like being able to pull my battery if needed for dev stuff and throw in a spare when away from juice for a while.
The main reason I'm excited for this phone is I know the AOKP ROM will be on it in about two weeks after release. I used it on my GNex and my S3 and will my S4. The DNA has been a great phone (especially with Viper on it) while I waited for the S4, but I always knew it was a transitional device for me.

You're kind of right. Octa is 4+4, a quad-core A7 teamed with a quad-core A15. It's the first commercial implementation of ARM's new big.LITTLE design which has been in development for two years. This explains Octa (big.LITTLE) if anyone's interested.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38637411&postcount=97
As for the EVLeak pics, they're fake. It was a place holder mock-up done by Expansys in preparation for the SGS4 launch. Too bad, the design in those pics would definitely be good for HTC.
"But the @evleaks tweets were quickly discredited after Expansys said that the diagrams that had been tweeted actually came from its own site - and that they were its artists' impressions of what a Galaxy S4 might look like, rather than actual pictures."
HTC is way better
Let's throw this thread way off track, and talk about something a little more interesting Who's going to buy the Xbox 720 when it comes out @ the end of the year?? The rumored specs sound pretty impressive.

OIS and 13MP camera was not there in note 2 because of sensor unavailability from sony.. they cannot serve sucha high demand right now.. somewhat similar to what bezos is doing with firephone.. but their strategy is different.. to curb high demand and check whether their phone will succeed or not and to curb losses he has his phone priced $650 LOL

And I see, but there was this video on YouTube that clearly mentioned the same what I've said. I can see the point you're trying to make, but Xiaomi isn't some backyard company now, is it? It's considered the 'Apple of China', how much ever they hate being called that. I'm sure they'll have the money to at least be in talks with physically retail stores and distributors. If not, you could be right. They went for the cheaper and affordable option of going through Flipkart. Either way, it's a win-win for us!
I'm sorry, but I can't comment on any of the products you've bought from eBay, as I haven't used them myself. I'm actually waiting for the original accessories to release, but a screen guard worth 750 should be worth it's price. When it does arrive, upload the pictures and store link on this thread so others can buy it!

It has msm8274ab (same as 8974ab but without lte support) which is sometimes recognized as snapdragon 801! The msm8974ac is snapdragon 801! The only difference between the two is that msm8974ab has clock speed 2.26ghz and emmc 4.5 while the msm8974ac has 2.46ghz and emmc 5.0! The benchmark difference is way too small! my mi3 gets 42k on antutu 5 beta while I have seen that mi4 with 801 gets around 42-43k!

Huawei Ascend Mate7

In case you haven't heard, the all new successor to our beloved HAM2 is the Mate7! Whether or not Huawei went through 4 different Mate models that we never knew about, I'll never know. I presume (since many people haven't heard of Huawei) they want the HAM7 to look "one step ahead" of the iPhone 6 and the Galaxy S6.
Here's the official Huawei page for the Mate7, and some pictures.

I think the biggest updates are the fingerprint sensor and the 1080p resolution. The rest of the specs are somewhat similar to our phone, so hopefully it won't have a huge price bump.
I'm sure a US version will come out eventually. Huawei wanted to come to the US with the HAM2 so it wouldn't make sense to not make this.

Agreed. They are certainly ramping up to compete with the other big guys here. After having the HAM2 I have no reason to believe I'll go back to those others.

anyone know anything about the SoC Hisilicon Kirin 925 4x1.8GHz+4x1.3GHz+1x230MHz

They are Huawei in house chip designers....
My Mate 2 MT2-L05 has a Hisilicon Kirin 910 chip in it which runs everything flawlessly, and if you look in the benchmarking thread, it also appears to be considerably faster than the Qualcomm 400 Snapdragon in the MT2-L03 US version, although until the MT2-L03 runs on 4.4.2 a direct comparison is slightly unfair.
The Mate7 will also be available in a 3GB RAM/32GB configuration.
I find it hard to believe Huawei would release a US version of the AM2, vastly improve it, and then not sell a US version of that successor. I would guess that a US version comes out a month or so after the foreign version is widely available.
I have the AM2. Without knowing what the AM7 would look like, my suggestions would've been:
Improve build quality
Make thinner+more compact
Lighter
Enable double tap to wake/faster way to unlock than antiquated side button
Improve performance+screen quality without sacrificing battery life
They've done all of the items on my list. I'll be trading in my Mate 2 for this baby the second a US compatible model becomes available.

Agreed.
Current phones, Ascend Mate 2, LG G3, LG G2, LG Lucid 3. Tablets, Nexus 7, LG GPad. I like the Ascend Mate 2 the best.
Most of the width and weight seems to be the battery. I changed the DPI to 264 and if not for application issues 240 was perfect screen is bright and clear flexible frame and screen I am more than impressed. Adjustments made and the phone is super snappy. I agree about the button placement though. Other than that really taken with this phone.
A model of the Mate7, MT7-L09 is purported to work with TMO/ATT LTE in the US. The price is higher than the AM2, but it's also a better screen, higher build quality and Android 4.4 out of the box. I'm thinking of giving it a shot.

I would rather go with the new nexus if I was to buy anything else for that price range
Not me. I prefer the significantly better battery life, thinner+more compact frame and microSD slot at $550 vs the Nexus 6 64GB at $750 after taxes.
Wish it had been this price when I bought my HAM2
Mate 7 is still too pricy for me... And doesn't have full network support only 1/2 bands supported so many places in the rural area I live in wouldn't have signal as I found out with my previous phone before the mate 2. I love the full network support and better connectivity with this $300 phone. 550 is still too much in my opinion.

Just want to mention that there is no official US version yet, this is an individual seller, so no warranty, no support, even seller reputation need put into consideration. Of course network/band will be another issue.

is the S9+ (Exynos) a good choice to buy??

Been using S6 for a while an I'm thinking buying the S9 plus exynos version.
I haven't bought a phone with my own cash and I'm considering of buying the S9 plus now. But I keep reading that the exynos version has some issues with battery life and I have combed the forum with no proper result. Since I already love my s6 i really want to buy the s9 plus but I have this nagging feeling about the battery life. Please someone enlighten me or help me with this
Thanks

Well you should get the Exynos variant if you want to root your phone. If you root your phones you'll have ways to tweak your device making the battery issue a non issue. Bottom line no root=SD, root=Exynos.

i think you already know: exynos is cpu faster.. snapdragon gpu faster (even the gpu in my zuk z2 : adreno 530 from snapdragon 820 is faster than the s9+ gpu..) but it doesnt matter in everyday use.. both versions are more than powerful enough for everything in the playstore .. I still have my s6 and s7 and s8 and can tell you the biggest benefits you get from s6 to s9 are more AND faster RAM (ram bandwith has also gotten better) and faster UFS 2.1 Storage.. i wouldnt say battery is worse than s6.. s7edge is the best with battery, s8 also pretty good, s9 is definetly not better than s8 but depends on what rom \kernel... the Elemental Kernel gives OC with which I did beat even the iphone x ( 4000 in singlecore and well over 10000 in multicore geekbench).. BUT it drains battery like at least 1% a minute when browsing \ playing.
Honestly i like the s6edge+ camera BETTER THAN THE S7 ! (in daylight) because of more detail (mp count) in s6.. of course s7 is better in low light. s8 improved on s7 and s9 improved on s8... and now my s9+ WITH ZERO CAMERA MOD (improved quality and bitrates) beats the pixel 2 xl, the sony xz2 and the huawei p20 pro in a straight (full auto) fight. (I tested in a couple of stores with the handsets on display there..same photo in the same direction, same conditions all auto settings).
About Design:For me personally the s6 (at least my s6edge+) is the most beautiful, has more character.. idk how to explain. also s8 and s9 are very slippery in the hand and you will ALWAYS pick it up the wrong side up\around ... cus when screen off it looks and feels(when out of pocket) EXACTLY the same. SO, USE A CASE!! :good:
Im not having any battery issues on my exynos, my battery life is on a par with my Pixel 2 XL.
Its a great device, dont hesitate to buy.

Note 9 has been benchmarked with the same SOCs (945 and 9810). You may have to wait till next year then, no?
Seems fine to me!
I have no problems (256GB dual sim model). Running Soldier Stock 3.5 rooted with Magisk. I think the battery life is pretty good particularly standby.
Perhaps, because the phone is so good that we're just using it so much that it seems like the battery is going down faster.
I dunno. Even so, with fast wireless charging and decent power banks, etc. it's not that much of an inconvenience if you do rip through it. At least for me it isn't.
Possibly the contender for the worst battery life ever was the S2 Skyrocket. That phone needed a removable battery! Like prowling the streets with a big block V8 with double pumper carbs, you can see your gauge dropping!

Though Note9 will be equipped with same SoCs , its expected to be tuned better as especially the Exynos 9810 is more powerful than whats achieved in the GS9 and GS9+. In addition, its rumored to have a bigger battery.
Its also rumored to be unveiled in July end or August beginning even though its been delayed by 2 weeks based on rumors and then to be released soon after , so its just two & half months more from now.

Sounds good! Just curious, is this before or after the BRE5 (latest) update?
I guess before as I have downloaded the update but not installed. I just got my rooted to get rid of Bixby and other apps. Probably will wait for a couple of my updates before I do anything to it; it runs so well now.

Hehe, exactly! Like Galaxo60 once said, there've been over 8 million units sold, and counting every single post (including YouTube) on the internet (even counting them twice over hehe) probably would barely make 100. Again, you have to remember that the vast majority of people who are happy with eg. battery life (eg. getting 6-8 hours SOT with the exynos) don't actually post anything. In saying that, the fact many people on these forums alone (and on Android Central) do post their satisfaction reflects that battery life is actually very good. Sure, if you're expecting to get 10 hours SOT with heavy gaming, then you should certainly look for something else.
Exynos 128GB, stock BRE5, no issues.

Type galaxy s9 or s9 plus batterylife in google and you would instantly understand 'bout d batterylife of the exynos model. Internet has millions of more database than XDA. Thank me later.
Battery Life of s9+ Exynos isn't that much great, I would never buy s9+ at this stage... I suggest you to stick with your current phone for a while and go with Note 9... But overall its upto you...

I do hope Samsung is spending engineering time tuning the 9810 for the the note 9 release. I assume the underlying hardware will still be the same, so the patches can be applied to the S9/S9+ as well.
The S6 was an amazing phone!

GPS L5 Frequecy not in use

basically when using my phone for sat nav, i didnt notice any further precise gps tracking. having looked into it further it seems that the phone isnt even using the second gps frequency!! anyone with newer software than .122? use GPStest app to find out and if it is working you should have multiple satellites with the same ID.
I'm on FW 127 (using Telus in Canada) and see 6 duplicate IDs in the list. H/V accuracy shows 4m. I'm currently sitting in my living room by a window so I guess it could get better.

Using GPSTest it seems Dual-frequency is still not in use. Maybe it is the same issue as the Xiaomi Mi 8 did when it was released.
See also https://medium.com/@sjbarbeau/dual-frequency-gnss-on-android-devices-152b8826e1c
i installed GnssLogger V 2.0.0.1 Release

it shows multiple carrier frequencies.
It think its on, but not used?

Huawei, it’s time for you to step up and address this! You trumpeted this feature so boldly in your advertising but . . . where the rubber meets the road, it’s no better than any of the previous generation GPS devices. Dual frequency GNSS was supposed to give us sub-meter accuracy!
We are now up to .187 firmware and still don't have dual frequency GNSS support. What is going on?

I just lodged a complaint with them regarding the false advertising of dual band GPS. Will let you know if/when I get a response.
Clarification by their side must be made, at least they could add an option to toggle it on or off.
We should make sure they aware that we face this problem, and action must be taken
Firmware 153 in the UK - I can confirm it isn't working for me
What (app?, method?) has been used for confirming that isn't working?
Confirmed dual band GPS not working on .153 using GPStest app:

Not just GPS, they have hyped in few other departments as well. In fact some of the tests show Kirin 980 score lower than QSD 845, let go 855, and also 40MP camera was tested to offer similar image quality as that of 12MP iphone X camera. Their claims must always be taken with a pinch of salt.
Huawei said they "will inform the relevant team", so probably do nothing. No surprises there..

Unfortunately GPStest is currently non completely reliable, so it shouldn't be used at present, maybe a new version will be released that shows correct data.
The real fact is that the second frequencies L5 and E5a are received.
See this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78525229&postcount=12
What is to be assessed is if these second frequencies are actually used internally for positioning, or received but still ignored.
Could it matter as to which country one is in as to whether or not this dual GPS frequency gets implemented or not?
If you root the phone you can enabled it

Pinch of salt? More like Fraud!
Here's one more thing to watch out for....if this matter gets magically 'FIXED'... it might be fixed like the Huawei 'fixed' the GEEK BENCH results for some of their other offerings.
Huawei...do the right thing....make it work as it should. Having the same accuracy/precision as a single band GNSS system just isn't right.
