Hello Android People...
I need some some help in getting started with my media player which OS sucks massively. The box is a PlayON HD 3D running some lame as pile of junk that I need to blow away and replace with the lastest and greatest version of Andriod.
Here are the specs for the box and some pics to show you the hardware that we have work with. I am looking for any assistance to help me get started in wiping of the rubbish and starting re-loading a real os. I am a linux user so feel free to post any cmd line linux stuff. I have also ROM'd a few Andriod phones in my time so not a complete novice. This is however, my first attempt at flashing a media player.
Any pointers in the right direction would be a great help.... and if anyone has done this before, then I would love to hear from them.

Running Android 4.x on Realtek 1186
My TV Box is Himedia H910A. This box is running Venus Linux + Android v2.1. Are you able to upgrade it to Android v4.4? Since typical box with RTD1186 only has 512MB RAM, so upgrading to Android v4.4 probably is a better solution. Your challenge is Realtek already stopped working on porting Android to RTD1186 after 2012.

Seems like my advice and others like me has been heard. Thanks to Jide for being responsive.
I have pledge remix io+ but please guys let us ask Jide to include a microphone in the controller so that we can do voice search over YouTube and use Google now voice search. I sent them an email asking this. Please guys send an email too. This is a function that needs to be implemented. Put a microphone in the controller like nvidia shield

With a May 2017 (estimated) ship date, and given Jide's record with the Ultratablet, does this mean that early adopters can expect support to end December 2017?
I'm not trying to throw mud at Jide but seriously, the way they seem to have screwed over ultratab early adopters is pitiful.
Hopefully if we choose to become Kickstarter supporters for the IO+, we won't get End-Of-Life status 6 months later.

It does not, if you want DVB functions, just get a separate tuner, u will get better signals.
A little bird told me that a new s912 tv box with DVB functions will come soon .

I am thinking about buying the Vorke Z1 Android TV Box and I would like to know whether the SPDIF out supports Dolby and dts signals. (I would like to hook up the Vorke Z1 box with my sound system.) I can see in the specifications that it is "programmable with 7.1/5.1 down-mixing", but I am not sure what it exactly means. Do I have to install some applications to have dolby and dts sound, or does the Vorke Z1 support them right out of the box?

Yes sure, it supports Dolby and DTS .
Downmixing Dolby TrueHD 7.1 to LPCM 5.1
You do not have to install apps, Just set from KODI or netflix.

I see firmware downloads on Vorke Z1 website that root device....... Damn now have to decide between Z1 or V1 @ twice cost of............. ahhh descsions descsions............ might as well get both I suppose. Geek buying to the rescue. Goodbye Xiaomi MIbox3 its been miserable unable to root/use one of my many PS3 SIAXIS controllers to NOT PLAY ANY GAMES.:good:

It is not . But we have posted firmware on our official blog to root it.
I want to replace my WDTV live gen 3 with Vorke Z1. Problem is that I am using HDMI for connecting to TV and analog audio out for connecting to NAD stereo amplifier. On this Vorke pictures i see AV ouput - can i use HDMI and AV to pull out analog audio at the same time like in WDTV?
I dont have optical input on amplifier and i do not prefer optical to analog cenverter
Any news about an hybrid one with dvbs2 tuner?

Hey I wonder if I can connect Remix OS to a tv using VGA cable. Also, I am looking for a OS for old laptop to upgrade my dumb tv. As you can see I am currently on Remix OS (I tried Android TV by geek till it hertz and Android x86 and they work fine but I can't connect them to a TV)
I'm a noob, I know but hopefully you will be kind and anwser me!
Edit: Remix OS really lags because I'm rockin' old hp compaq. If you can, tell me how to connect Android TV OS (on a laptop of course) to a tv (VGA-VGA, HDMI-VGA, special codes,...)

Most PC's can be upgraded to have a new video card... buy one with HDMI

Hi I'm using hp compaq *akward because I forgot the number*. It has 150 GB hdd and 1 GB of RAM. Currently, I have dualboot Windows 7 Proffesional-Remix OS and they both lag I really want to get an Android TV so if you know, how does tv/monitoe recognise it please tell me.I don't think tv has DVI port, because it's mounted to the wall. Could VGA-HDMI work? Thanks!

Hello all,
first of i want to thank you all for the great work, XDA was and is my biggest source of Android information.
Now for my request. But first some background info.
Recently my company has put up for sale some old hardware from which i have chose an HP Compaq Elite 8300 SFF (price 30 euro) with the following specs:
-Intel i5-3570 3,40GHz (4 cores)
-4GB DDR3
-no HDD but either i will use an USB 3.0 32gb drive or buy a small HDD or SSD
-there is no graphic card but it has an integrated Intel HD 2500 with HDMI port.
At home i have an old 46in Panasonic Smart TV wich is too old for current technology but is still Full HD 30 fps and its SLiM (considering its age).
Considering this i took this opportunity to get an desktop PC to ad it to the TV (already have a hidden space under the TV table so it does not show.
Now you might be asking why i haven't opted for a Chromecast or something similar. Reason is i trust more PC hardware and i am more familiar with it also i can add and remove hardware for upgrade as i please.
My request is if you can suggest me an Android OS to install onto it.
I plan to use it for mostly Netflix and YouTube and some controller specific games like Asphalt 9 or some older/emulated games.
The PC specs are good for the almost free price, i am also familiar with the PC since i worked on same model for some years so the performance is right.
The reason of why i want Android is that unfortunately i have no cable internet so i am limited to data, fortunately i have data plan with free YouTube/Netflix
