October/September (2016) Firmware for MTCB and MTCC Units - MTCB Software Development

Is this the same you posted before, based on the Eonon october ROM?
I had several issues with that ROM, Waze crashing at start, same for the canbus app. None of these issues with your August or September ROM.

Now you have a heat sink, I have one on order and others are thinking about it, maybe we could revise the cpu throttling, discussed earlier, that drastically limits speed because of suspected worries by the devs about heat ? What do you think ? I guess it wont be until the summer that we would be able to fully test this . . . actually its summer in the southern hemisphere so users down there could tell us if theres any problems.
BTW youve missed one of your posts in the MCU feature request thread and not deleted it, post #45 ! Cant see the point of deleting posts in that thread as well - @dhmsjs has just tried to go through the MTCC MCU for you to see if he can make it compatible with your radio IC as you requested, but if youre deleting your posts from that thread then you ll make it more difficult to help you.
I take screenshots of useful posts, so the deletion of all your posts does not affect me, however, you are now making life more difficult for the rest of the community, as well as yourself, by deleting them.

Developer Options?
Is there a way to enable developer options on the 5.1.1 Roms?

Well done for spotting that . . . just as youve upgraded to 2GB and 10 others are about to !
Still, if the price of a new SoM isnt too high (assuming its MTCC compatible), an RK3188 SoM with 2GB RAM might be attractive to RK3066 owners, so, after selling our old SoMs, an octacore upgrade might not cost too much.
And of course we may be lucky and Marshmallow might be available for the RK3188.
The PX5 is 1.3Ghz, 64bit, has light, proximity and g sensors, has HDMI and uses a Realtec RTL8723BS wifi/BT board from what I can see, wonder if it ll still be compatible with the MTCB/C BT set up ?

Rockchip seem to be going up in the world - Samsung are about to release chromebooks with a Rockchip RK3399 Hexacore processor:

Ok, Installed OCT ROM and forgot to mention about bluetooth. After the reboot, it would not connect to my phone (was CAR KIT, now EONON) So I tried 0000, 1234, looked it up and was 5xxx. Still no go.
Change to CAR KIT, 0000 and rebooted.. all is ok.
Still want to try that voice calling stuff and will install SYGIC Nav after work..

Runs smooth but I have the same issues with the September ROM as with the last - Waze craches after starting the app. @dsa8310 any chance you can fix it?

Bauhn AMID-972XS rooting?

Just bought this tablet this morning. Found out that the programs have been signed with the wrong id. Can't update programs without deleting them, which means I need to root the device. I'd like to know if any of the rooting methods are better than any other if they work. I'd also like jellybean. Would I have to try and make a custom rom? Or could I try one from another tablet?
I'd be grateful for some help, but I know everyone is busy with more interesting stuff, so I'll wait patiently.
In the mean time I'll try some of the methods out there and hope I don't brick the device.

+1 on the questions.
I think for root, some tools using generic exploits for 4.0.3 might work. but for custom roms we might be out of luck.

Thanks. does that mean we can use the ICS 4.04 firmware from http://en.ployer.cn/support.php?id=3 along with the install guide from it? (and that the firmware between the bauhn and momo units is the same, or compatible, despite physical appearance differences (like physical keys, and pooosibly another CPU (the bauhn tablets are all Amlogic Cortex A9...if the A10 in the allwinner is the CPU type ref))?
also, any idea if the page you linked to has cooked roms with root included?
OK.
Rooted with this...

Seems to work. Have deleted youtube.apk from the system directory. Rebooted. Installed youtube 4.06? (I think) Now youtube just won't run. Did a full factory reset and cache wipe from recovery (wasn't even sure recovery existed on this thing, but there you go). Installed youtube again. Still doesn't work even after deleting program cache and deleting settings from app menu.
Will see how I go with the link from AJ88. See where it leads.
More later.
You may use 4.0.3 firmware in your tablet and may use clockwork recovery 5 in your tablet...
Many people use this firmware in micromax funbook..
Just give it a try many things in this player momo tab and your device is same..so do at your risk..
First try to run recovery if you can flash it successfully first backup your current firmware so that in future if things goes wrong you can get your original device back.
Best luck

So I have to find firmware compatible with my processor and other hardware inside this thing? Do I have that right?
Time to start looking for something with the same hardware.
Yes that's because if your device ram is 512 and you flash a firmware of device which has 1gb ram than how it operate?
Same for processor

these might be silly questions, but since we now have root access - is there a standard Cyanogen mod for ICS we can install/along with the required CWM or do those need to be custom made for the specific customization of ICS 4.0.3/rom/kernel/bootloader/etc?
Not silly at all as far as I'm concerned.
But; from what I've read, there is no ROM that can be installed on everything. They all have to be modified to suit the hardware.
I'm still looking into ROM kitchens at this point to figure out what needs to be done to create a ROM.
Needless to say, this'll take a while though.

If you find something that works let me know. I'm happy with ICS on mine, but I've found that the USB firmware is not exactly perfect and doesn't work properly through the Android API. You have to resort to the Kernel Native driver. I wouldn't mind finding a firmware that actually works properly.
If anyone is making a rom for this device, I'll be happy to assist, but i don't have any programing skills.
There are too many bugs on this system with Ice scream sandwich and hoping a rom would clean them out. Especially with updating the youtrube app on Google play.

Try the Ainol novo7 Elf2 Tablet at SlateDroid.com
After countless protests we've finally gotten the company AMLogic and Ainol to release sources. Though its dirty and incomplete, its something.
Some had a go at making CM9 too. The tablet uses the same SoC (AML-M6) so it has some compatible drivers, it would need to be cooked a certain different way to make it compatible though.
As for r00t, try:

And if that didn't work, then its not the tablet's fault, you're to blame ; )

Hi, I'm experiencing weak wireless signal on the AMID-972XS while other devices like phone and laptop seem to pick a better signal at the same location.
Has anyone had this problem? I'm wondering if it's normal due to the hardware spec of the wireless card or is my unit faulty.

I first thought it was a faulty tablet then I replaced it and I'm having the same problem with the new one.
When I try and load a youtube videos it takes a while and when it loads it keeps cutting out.
I check the wireless bar and find that there's only 2 of the 3 bars of signal.
But on my iPhone same located youtube videos load fast and no drop outs.

This tablet has a 'T' icon on the lower left corner of the screen. I have no knowledge of Android but would it be possible to install a 'clean' version of Android to remove the Tesco link? If so, would it still recognise the GPS which is the primary reason for wanting this tablet ?
TIA Paul
Just bought one myself. Had a few HTC phones, tinkered with my first windows ROM (old version) with xda guides so have come looking for a guide to rooting. But not much when searching for hudl so my guess is to start there.

Hi,
In case anyone is looking for clear instructions on how to overcome the problem after a factory reset of the Tesco Hudl 1 & 2 you will find them here (works for Hudl 2 as well). Use a date between 27 June 2019 and 26 June 2020 :

Update 23 May 2023: This mechanism for recovery of a factory reset Hudl 1 no longer works. Due to the Tesco server at https://device.tesco.mobile.com/ no longer responding correctly to requests this technique no longer works and will fail after Step 18. As far as I know my Custom ROM is now the

[Q] android car radio

I am looking for help on choosing the right android radio for my car.
I have a forester 2011 with gps buit in, but that super feature removed the a2dp fonctionalty !
That is all I wanted! !!
I have read these 2 thread AN-21U and 4.2.2 a9 dual core
These 2 are hard to find on ebay !
I have a galaxy s5, note 2014 and wife has galaxy s3... we are very in android.
What I would like on the radio is:
- a2dp perfectly working
-good gps with available free updates (without having to always use google maps on tethering from my phone). But Google maps still available
- port for microphone (unless the micro from the head unit is good for phone call. .. but I doubt it! ). I could use the one already installed in my car
-steering wheel control. .. they all seams to have it
-able to browse Internet and YouTube videos (on tethering)... flash player probably working with firefox...
-torque apps should work. .. already using it on my phone (OBDII)
-google account working linked with chrome
-good radio reception. .. the is a must since this is my. ...radio! !
-fast boot time. .. or even being able to stay on sleep mode. I guess 30 secondes is fast enough, but might get slower with more apps I guess !
-tv tunner would be awesome
-reverse camera
Am I dreaming wanting all this ?
Between 350 and 400$ should be doable !
Root is not necessary since I might end up with more problems. (Radio not working, steering wheel issue, ect) But rooting can solve a bunch of problem too...
Thank you very much for your help.
Reading both thread above did not really helped me. .. the first one seams to have a bunch of issues. .. and icannot find the second on ebay on simple double din .
Martin L.
This one seams ok... would it be a good choice ?
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=301197118041&alt=web
Is it one of the 2 listed above ?
Please give me a little help here!
Even if I read all the descriptions. .. it is always better to ask a person who owns one!
Too easy to waste money buying something you think does all you want! !
Thank you

ive also been on the market and looking but from reading peoples post on different h/u its pretty save to say its all a gamble most of these units are chinese built and the build quality is questionable some units have good features but lack memory the units you may wanna look into more would be the ones with some sort dev support and root those seems to be the ones that if there is an issue at least someone can come up with a solution also you may wanna stay away from h/u that are windows CE as they run android on a top of the windows and may lack android features
Thank you very much for your help.
That is exactly what I thought, a gumble !
After reading the first thread posted above (AN-21U), it seams to have to much issues.
But the other about the 4.2.2 a9 dual core seams very interesting. but I cannot find any of those on ebay searching by the names HuiFei/KGL (KGL), Klyde (KLD) or RoadMaster (RM) !
There is a buch of 4.2.2 a9 dual core.. 1.2ghz, 1.6ghz, 1gb ram, 2Gb ram .. they might all be fake, I cannot know !
It seams all the auction lake on real detail about the product (model #, ect).
Is there anyway I can by certain I order on of the HuiFei/KGL (KGL), Klyde (KLD) or RoadMaster (RM) ?

Hello Martin,
I dont know your car type, but I recomend DX.com for buy things from China. Try to find with: "autoradio" and "android" keyword.
Eg.: Joyous 8" J-8813-8A for VW group cars.
BR, Mark
It is said in my forst post that you quoted, it is a subaru forester 2011 !
Simple double DIN will work in my car, no special fitting is needed !
If I find a good one with RK3066 processor, does that mean this is the right one (from the second link of my first post) ?
Just an example, looking at that file: HuiFei/Klyde/RoadMaster Reference, I clearly see what the Hui Fei and roadmaster look like.
But since there is more info on the Klyde one, this is the one I would like to buy but I cannot see what the head unit look like !
Searching the web for Klyde android car, I see a LOT og different model ... which one is the right one ?
I don't think any Klyde model will work, I need the right one !
Same thing for RoadMaster ... I can find the model I see on the picture on ebay, but no way to be sure it is the right one !
This video is for Klyde: Youtube Video but does not seams to be the one on the file !
If it is, this might be the one I want !
Thank you for your help !
The problem is they are all Chinese built so they tend to be all nock offs of each other you have to get a confirmed hardware specs for the klyde unit and then when you search look for the same hardware its small difference in hardware it could be the GPU or the ram or etc. Even though they all look similar its the internals that will tell you which is which ....I'm currently looking for a unit with 4.4 and 1024*720 screen resolution I found one in a Europe site but am trying to see if I find it on eBay I have a wrx sti ::subie wave::
I see a lot of Ouku that seams good, but as it is not mentioned anyway in here, I guess these are not a good idea to buy !

I have 25Tabs onped on my Chrome, I read everything written here on XDA.
I can see that the RM are bugless, so that might be what I want!
But I find no where I can buy them exect from aliexpress.com, but they are not cheap at all !
This one seams perfect and cheap, but from WinLink ?!?!?! WinLink
Or that one from Zhoon with 7" display that seams good: Zhoon
Or one from Infidini Infidini
All I really want is to be able to charge my cell (1 USB and Built-in Wifi), have my OBDII bluwtooth connected with my cell. And be able to have my music on bluetooth. Also have the reverse camera and steering wheelm control !
They practicly all have these features, but the best is a pure android and being able to root !
All the link I find here to buy one are no longer working, so ther eis no place to buy one.
Except from aliexpress.com where Rm are really expensive, and Ebay where you have no idea what you are buying !!
Please, I want to order one! I am so tired of my Pioneer always crashing in my car !
This is what I am looking for, but I don't want to order 100 of 'em RoadMaster
You want one that is multi channel Bluetooth too if not you either do obd or phone but not both that's something to consider also
Ok, i am really going to buy one, but only need a little piece of advice before i do !
I finally found a klyde not to expensive : klyde
Can i use the bluetooth for anything else then my phone ( with obd dongle for example).
Is the microphone good enough for phone call ?
I have been searching for that model since i see in other threads that they seams to be good. .. with no bugs !
But now that we are already in September, is there better product ?
Maybe this one is better ? http://m.aliexpress.com/item-desc/1948364463.html

[APP][Headunit Reloaded Emulator] Running Android Auto on almost any unit.

Some of you might already be aware others maybe not, with the latest build of the "Headunit Reloaded app" you can now enjoy the Android Auto experience on almost any device. The app can be found in it's own thread, together with all the how to's and all the support: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ge...ndroid-4-1-headunit-reloaded-android-t3432348
Currently confirmed units capable to run the app:
- RK3188 based units, but only through Wifi connection
- AN-21U, xTrons, will work with USB, but only using Software decoding (occasionally that can produce some H264 decoding glitched)
-Allwinner powered devices
- Intel powered Joying units
Possibly other devices as well.
I have just updated the free trial app version to match the latest release so trial now also include all the features from the main build for those who want to try it out on their devices.
Can you tell me what this actually can do for me?

The app allows you to convert your Android powered headunit into an "Android Auto" compatible headunit, instead of buying an expensive Sony/Pioneer/Kenwood which can run Android Auto on it, you can use you existing unit to do so.

I dont understand the point - a full Android headunit can do so much more than Android auto.
Its a bit like saying "theres this great app that reduces the functionality of your device and makes it dumber".
Or have I missed something ?

Hi.
You are half way right, using "Android Auto" is way more limited than using a full blown Android, but it has some advantages as well, like for example it integrates SMS control from the headunit and data used between the phone and the headunit isn't classed as tethered data, which comes VERY hand for those who have included allowance in their phone package but not usable for tethering. Meaning you can listen to online streams (radios) on the road without tethering to the headunit. I know you can do that over A2DP as well, but most of this devices have a very cheap and bad quality A2DP receiver making listening to anything a painful act rather than an enjoyable experience.
Others will find the simplicity of the app appealing as well as the fact that it removes all the unnecessary notifications (distractions) while driving, but this like everything else related to Android Auto VS a full Android headunit is subjective.
Everybody has different needs, different preferences and so on so while some people will find Android Auto to be the best alternative possible others will say it's stupid to limit the functionality of your headunit. I tend to agree with both of them and both have valid points, I thinks it's down to individual preference.

Yes, you make some good points actually, some of which I find quite appealing. I kinda fancy some of those features on my Android headunit without running Android auto.
Just seen youre the dev, I wasnt trying to dis your project, just couldnt see the point, although I can now and yeah, its all subjective and down to personal preference.

No worries haven't considered it like that, I like to be as objective as possible, same with AutoMate, I think it's a great app and usually when I'm asked to compared it against AA I try to do it in objective way.
At the end of the day it doesn't matter which approach somebody takes until the it doesn't start with the i letter

Maybe your next project should be bringing some of the advantages of this one to people who dont want Android Auto on their Android headunit, but want some of the benefits youve pointed out, like tethering data classed as phone data and SMS control from the headunit ? Sort of a halfway house. (I m joking but kinda serious too).

Hi Emil,
I've sent yiu an email as well.
I'm in India and I just bought an android head unit. Its Allwin. When I go on the app store, I can't download the app, its not compatible.
Please tell me what to do?
@Emil Borconi , confirmed working on mtcd ha 1.63c with Hal9k_ Nougat ROM on RK3188 1GB unit over wifi! Purchasing, best of luck.
hey, it's working fine, but is it possible to change resolution to 1024x768? I can work only on 800x640, and the next one is 1280x720, which isn't working properly on my HU

MTCD - Swap Radio Module TDA7786 for TEF6686

Update 27/07 - did not improve the radio enough to recommend this modification/change.
Apparently the TEF6686 module has better performance than the TDA7786 - e.g. 7786 poor sensitivity, selectivity, multipath issues etc. My JY TDA7768 is terrible, even with an RF amp, so to find out if the TEF is any better, thought I would try and investigated swapping tuner modules. Reviewing the GS board I have as a spare part against my JY, I identified the modules are pin-for-pin compatible.
Sucessfully swapped the Radio module from a donor GS board containing a TEF6686 Module into my JY board originally containing a TDA7786. The GS board was quite difficult to unsolder the module, perhaps due to leadfree solder, fortunately the JY board was easy, the desolder wick readily desoldering the module.
As for results, I have bench tested and RDS, tuning, audio etc is OK, I am yet to test in the vehicle. Will update this thread with results.
See attached images. Note that the JY case had additional mounts that over time might short out against the non-ground PCB tracks, resulting in complete failure of the unit!
Welcoming any questions.
Did the reception really improved?? And RDS AF fuction is working well with malaysyk V3 firmware?

Hi,
The tef6686 appears marginally better, is more sensitive and appears to handle multipath better. Im not sure if I would call it out as a worthy upgrade just yet - need more time.
wonder if it can be bought on its own.. seems like just the chip itself which is surfaced mounted on the riser card as pictured above.. so this would prove difficult to install

Ive seen a suitable module available on aliexpress that would need some modification to swap a couple of pins. That is the TEF6686-TDQ-230V-186 (10 pin) - a whole $6 bucks US.
http://s.aliexpress.com/QBfay
Next week this module come to me , so in the next weekend I have time to swap.

That's great, don't forget these are not pin-pin identical and will have to figure out swapping pins. Search for the manufacturer PDF and check against the mtcd schematic. I'll upload the module PDF later today.
Hi, final thoughts - the upgrade in my experience was marginally better - not worth it!

could be something else in the implementation, not just the chip itself.
i have 2 boxes, one with 7786, the other with 6686 and the difference in reception is worlds apart. I mean even with the powered antenna not connected to 12V, i had no hiss on any station received.
7786 with powered antenna is just fine, don't get me wrong, but 6686 is better.

I had thought about that but there's no difference in implementation I can see after comparing from schematic. Perhaps I had a 'good' 7786.
- MCU is latest HA
- Both modules are digitally controlled by MCU/i2c bus.
- same supply
- latest HA android 6.
There's really not much to it, 5volts, antenna connection, i2c comms and audio out. I get multipath noise/crackles from stations between 99 and 102mhz. Same between both tda and TEF.
Can you clarify what you mean by 'better'.
Hi!
Maybe there are some differences in the Radio Software used in the different HU. The Chip is controlled by I2C and it seems to be possible to activate or change some behavior of FM Reception through some commands.
Is it maybe possible to extract the radio Software from the good HU so we can try it out on different devices (with TEF 6686).
It would be really nice if it would be possible to control some of the possible configuration of the chip manually...

No differences in android and same MCU, MCU controls radio module via I2c. The "upgrade " has no discernable difference.
Any more details? I need a more sensitive tuner. I have a full power mast but my car is all SMC so the radio needs all the help it can get.

Sure - there are two different tuner modules and neither of them are 'better'. I suspect its hit and miss in the production of either modules.
If you have a proper external antenna, which is properly connected, there's nothing you can do apart from using internet streams or DAB if available for best quality.
thanks, do you know if these unit have the 7786 or the 7786M IC?

Are you sure ? Cos on MTCB/C units the AF doesnt work and the PTY is plain wrong (I have an MTCD unit now but I havent tested the radio yet, its still on the bench), but someone (deffo Italian I remember that) made some changes and got PTY to work correctly and I thought he did it by modding the app ratehr than anything on the MCU side. Sadly I cant remember exactly what thread it was in, or who it was.

Unfortunately the only way to tell on MTCD untis is to open it up, unlike the MTCB/C units where you can select the tuner type in facory settings, which is strange cos MTCD MCUs are much more powerful 32 but compared to MTCB/C's 8bit . . .
. . . or maybe there is a way ? - @marchnz's dmesg output mentions "6686" in the first post.
Hi,
Can someone help with radio module pins schematic for XD-6686AF-0. This is same radio module that @marchnz has swaped. I am forced to change main that is not pin to pin identical to TEF6686-TDQ-230V-86-TDQ-230V-86-R that I have from aliexpress.
Thank you
P.S.

I guess this is what I am looking for.
Leaving a tip for everyone looking for this schematic.
Thanks to @marchnz

Do you have a datasheet? Shouldnt be too hard to match up against schematic.

Radio module that comes from aliexpress has description on every pin.
Can be seen on the picture that is provided in this link.
I can make a new photo if someone needs clear image of this module.
