No recovery mode? - Sony Xperia XA Ultra Questions & Answers

Two days after getting my XA Ultra, I received the latest firmware update. Everything was flawless until I couldnt unlock my phone since the system ui was crashing. I tried booting to recovery mode and perform a basic factory reset and I could not.
I plugged my device to my PC and for some reason, the system ui stopped crashing. I tried going to settings and factory resetting it from there, every time phone would reboot, it would boot android back again without resetting my data.
I ended up using the software repair option and here I am still at 40% trying to fix it.
What combination keys should I use to boot my device to recovery mode and reset it?

It seems it's a security problem. The phone is encrypted by So Sony and every time I set a password an error occurs and it makes the settings app crash. I managed to run a "software repair" using the Xperia companion which downloaded the latest firmware and reinstalled it onto the phone but bug is still there.
I contacted Sony but tech support agents are always rude and helpless they had no technical knowledge. I am now using the phone but I cannot set a pin or pattern otherwise the system crashes.
Phone is under warranty I could easily mail it back to Amazon but I wouldn't like another customer to have this issue. Any suggestions?

In this case I would recommend the use of Flashtool. Your problem is software related and can easily be fixed without the painful process of an RMA.
Flashtool can auto download the latest firmware and will do a COMPLETE wipe and reflash of all data.

Some problems with my Elephone.

Hello, so I changed my screen few weeks ago, and I started to notice that it won't work propelry, in menu or setting it's okay, but when I try to use apps, some of them wont work as it should. For example, i can't take photo in messenger, i can't send good game in Clash Royale. Screen seller sent my some files to update my phone, but I noticed that i can't get into recovery mode, only in factory mode, I tried to do factory reset, OTA update because mine is still 2016-06-08, but it won't update, I also tried flash those files without recovery mode(when you start downloading ant then turning off your phone), but it didn't work. Have any ideas, what it could be?

Did you replace the screen yourself or was it a kind of Elephone repair ? .. obviously changing a screen is a major kind of thing and (I would assume) it could cause issues if not done properly.
Have you tried to flash the 2016-06-08 Rom in Splash Tools (or a custom ROM) and checking to see if the issue still exists - Im sure if its your screen it would occur on whatever ROM you were using, as its a hardware fault. Thing is if its just a sioftware "glitch"... I would first flash TWRP in flashtools, then flash a ROM from within TWRP and check if the issue still persists.
Obvioulsy if the issue continues once youve tried this I guess your screen is faulty unfortunately
I would recommend using this TWRP version 3.0.2.8. here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24727369092696060

What could be wrong with this phone?(Freezing, restarting, doesn't detect carrier)

Ok hello i'm pretty new to this, but I have looked around quite a bit and nothing seems to help. So my friend gave me this Galaxy S6 edge(more specifically the SM-G925I - TCE Mexico (Telcel)). The issue with this phone is that it freezes then restarts randomly and it also doesn't recognize the carrier. It recognizes that theres a sim but the carrier is not recognized and I don't have access to mobile data. The bigger issue at the moment is the crashes though. I already tried resetting to factory defaults, booting in safe mode, wiping the cache and wiping all the data/ factory reset from the recovery menu. I thought it was the OS or something so I installed twrp wiped EVERYTHING(pretty sure I did since when I rebooted twrp told me if I was sure since I had no os installed) and installed the official 7.0 firmware update from sammobile. It was previously 6.0.1 and I thought having a different version might fix the issue. Yet the issue remains, within a few minutes of me using it it freezes, turns off, and reboots. At this stage I might you might think its a hardware issue but when i'm in recovery or download mode it doesn't turn off. Also I decided to leave it charging when I left for work and when I came back it hadn't turned off at all. I checked the uptime and it was at 7 hours and yet within a few minutes of me checking the settings it froze and turned off. I'm not really sure what to do anymore i'll probably take it to a service center to see whats up but I wanted your opinions first. Thanks.

[SOLVED] S9+ Fails to Unlock After Latest Pie OTA Update

Hey all,
My phone updated today and ever since I cannot move past the initial lock screen. When unlocked, the UI appears to crash and send me back to the lock screen. My pin code works for turning the phone off, restarting the phone and putting it into emergency mode, which indicates some sort of UI crash.
Because this is a new account I can't post a link to a video of the issue directly, but the YouTube video code is: 8ZhlH-Tt-NU
I have tried the standard fixes like wiping the cache partition and booting into safe mode, but these don't seem to make any difference. Unfortunately I never logged into my Samsung account on this device, so their 'Find My Mobile' service is not an option. I am however signed into my Google account on the device and it does have wifi/network enabled.
The phone is running PPR1.180610.011/G965FXXU2CSA8
On the phones internal memory is a bunch of photos from a recent trip to Japan, I'm a fool for not backing these up sooner but I would hate to lose them.
Has anybody experienced anything like this before, and is there any way for me to get back into the phone, or atleast recover the photos that I took?
Thanks!
Edit:
One potential route out of this I can see is sideloading the same or a subsequent OTA update using ADB to hopefully fix the issue. Unfortunately despite some digging I can't find any updates that will allow installation from: PPR1.180610.011/G965FXXU2CSA8
If anybody has any information on this specific firmware version (Is it beta 3? beta 4? ect.), its installation path and where files relating to it may be listed/hosted it would be appreciated. Also how disasterous would it be to take a mismatched OTA upgrade and modify the metadata to allow it to be sideloaded onto the phone? I assume this would almost certainly break the OS completely but I'm not too sure.
You can try to flash your firmware again with ODIN, but with the HOME_CSC (Important!)

Thanks for the reply Profi I had no idea using HOME_CSC would retain user data. I have tried flashing a few different versions of Pie (wish HOME_CSC) using Odin but with no luck, every time the phone boots I have the same problem. Do you know if there is a sure way to downgrade to Oreo while retaining user data? I have seen a few posts of people attemping this and getting stuck in bootloops, eventually requrining them to factory reset.
To give a final update on this. I attempted the Oreo downgrade, upon reboot the phone was stuck in a bootloop so I updated to Pie again. When the phone booted I tried the pin code as quickly as I could, and after some glitchy graphics on the screen it unlocked. From here I turn on the stay awake while plugged in feature in the developer options and managed to transfer all my data over to PC.
I don't believe it was the firmware changes that actually made any difference, because any further attempts to put my pin in, to remove the pin code for example, failed and cause the same crashing behaviour.
All data is recovered, I have factory reset the phone and all appears to be behaving as normal again. If anybody stumbles upon this with the same issue, all hope is not lost, but unfortunately I was unable to determine a realiable way to overcome it. It seems in this case it was just dumb luck.
Thanks for the assistance.

Phone constantly rebooting

Hi all,
Last night my phone started to randomly reboot itself, even in Safe Mode! It's now to the point where I can't even login -- I enter my pin, the 'Phone is starting' overlay shows for a while, and then it suddenly reboots. I haven't installed a new app for at least 2 weeks at this point, and the reboot was happening before I updated my apps. After updating, things seemed to get worse maybe?
Is there any way I can salvage my phone or do I have to hard factory reset via hardware buttons?
Its called bootloop. you need to flash your phone to fix this problem and flashing can fix all the software issues of your device.
I was afraid of that... Just a bit worrying that it happened randomly when running stock.
Ok, thanks!
I had same issue when ran android 9 in 2019, however, I fix this issue by doing a clean flash. Yes, you will lose everything, so make sure you do a backup via google.

If you didn't add an app or update that caused it either the boot load got corrupted or it's a hardware issue. The flash memory should not spontaneously get corrupted unless it's defective ie a hardware issue. However anything is possible... quantum physics.
More than likely it was a poorly written app or update that caused it. 3rd party launchers and power management apps are prime suspects. It may take a week or more to manifest its self as a boot loop. Any signs of system lagging or instability should be taken seriously as they are the only warnings you may get before a boot loop*.
A virus or rootkit** is another prime candidate.
Do a factory reset now. Be wary of which apps you load and avoid any updates until the system is know to be stable. Then add apps and updates one at a time. Updates many times aren't really needed.
Over a year ago I had 2 back to back boot loops on my Note 10+... yes, and 2 factory resets and full reloads.
The prime suspects were as I mentioned above. Neither one was reloaded after the 3red factory reset. A year latter that 3rd reload is still running fast and stable. Fun times
**if your Android version is 9 or above a factory reset will purge any virus or rootkit as long as you don't inadvertently reintroduce it. Be careful what apps you load and what you download.
If the Android version is 8 or below, they are suspectable to a nasty rootkit that requires a firmware reflash to purge. Pie and above are not.
1. For me, it was also itself rebooting, only while phone were in pocket / case. So do not use any of them (searched on reddit forum, was exactly same topic)
2. Maybe sim ejection tool is not correct be inside, don't often open and close it

Question Unrooted OTA update to android 13 bootloops

I OTA updated my stock unrooted XQ-BC72 to android 13, it boots up to the home screen, fully functional for 10 seconds, then reboots. I can choose power off in that time to prevent rebooting.
I don't want to factory reset if I can avoid it because there's user data I want to get from the device.
I can boot in safe mode: same thing.
The fingerprint sensor had stopped working a while back, and I had changed various configuration settings, which worked fine before. I've reset all app settings. I took out the SIM & microsd. No change.
Any ideas about what i could do?

I will probably have to do that. And first I'll try factory reset. But because I want to recover user data from the device, I was hoping there was some way I could stop it rebooting soon after reaching the home screen, even with reduced functionality. And then fix the OS.
Yep that happened to a lot when i re-wrote the super to removed files from the system.
