Problem with internal storage - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Hello. I'm owner of RN3 KATE version. Unofficialy unlocked bootloader, alka twrp and RR 5.7.4.I have problems with internal storage. I can write files only to the root of internal storage, can't write to sdcard/dcim and other folders of internal storage. So can't event take pictures and save them. Can't make titanium backup backups...I've tried other ROM's but the same problem...How can I fix it?

I'm in the same problem with my SnapDragon Version. Any applications can't write in internal storage. Any fix?

Did you format your internal storage after unofficially unlocked your phone?... If not then try to format. Did you flash cm 13 firmware before installing RR rom?... You can try to change to other rom, like citrus 7.0. I'm using this with diamond kernel.. its like stable
Note:- Try to follow my tips at your own risk, i'm not responsible for anything

You need to give root permission from developer option. Is that enable already?

I'm installed CM 13 cm-13.0-20161114-NIGHTLY-kenzo.zip file. Before I'm used the old versions of cm 13 and works perfectly to file manager and others apps access to internal storage. On TWRP file manager app, access normally but on android no access. I'm tried other AOSP version and got the same problem.

I've found the solution. Here are the steps:
1. Convert your portable sd card into internal sd card
2. Flash TWRP 2.8.7.0 with rashr app
3. Copy TWRP 3.0.0 zip file into /data/media/0
4. Reboot into recovery
5. Flash TWRP 3.0.0, which is located in /data/media/0, from the recovery
6. Reboot into your new recovery
same result

Followed the steps, at first got issue copying twrp3.0 to media, but was able to. same result, stuck on twrp logo. is there other way to make twrp 3.0 work with adaptable storage on?
I have a solution. Just stay on 2.8.7.0. Everything works...
I just wanted to mention that it perfectly works on LG G2 mini D610

I got bug with stucking twrp in first test build. Then I compiled it in CM tree and bug vanished. I tried with adoptable storage and with portable - all is ok on my device.

so what to do? You had that bug at first, how do we solve it?
I had the bug with the adoptable storage. Mounted the card as external, rebooted to TWRP, did another format from TWRP, rebooted, mounted the card as internal, and now I have no issues. Sadly, this requires that you delete all your apps on sdcard, and I can tell you that Easy Backup & Restore and Titanium Backup do not work.

Please let me confirm the opposite. I was using CM13 and TWRP 2.8.7.0 with adaptable storage. Then I've updated to TWRP 3.0 and no problem at all. Clean transition for me.

Sadly, a lot of users had issues with TWRP 3.0 stuck at loading screen after the update, and I'm guessing there is something messed up with the way SD card is formatted when that happens. Anyway, I'm almost certain that the issues is upstream.

[Solved] Encryption Unsuccessful - Lenovo K6 Power (K33a42)

Dear Friends
After spending too much time searching and encountering many incorrect answers, I finally found a solution on my own and decided to let you guys know
It's really simple, It's not exactly a big crack but we were installing the ROM incorrectly.
Solution 1 : Just Install ROM using the internal memory don't use any other storage option like microSD Card or OTG. It worked for me.
Solution 2 by Pourush Sharan Bhargav
1. Wipe everything from twrp.
2. Download a stock rom of k6 power and flash it with a Qualcomm flash tool.
3. Go to settings check.......phone now will not be encrypted.
4. If it says to encrypt, do not do it.
5. Go to twrp and make changes to data and cache partition to ext4.
6. Wipe everyting again from twrp.
7. Flash your custom rom like RR and gapps.
8. Done, enjoy.....
All the best. Please give me Kudos if this tip is helpful to you.

That's not what i meant. Follow below steps
Remove the SD card as it might interfere with the process.
1. Reboot in TWRP
2. Do all the wipes (Data, System, Delvik, Cache Internal storage)
3. Then connect USB and copy ROM and Gapps in Internal Memory
4. Flash both.
Hope it works.
Okay.
Can you tell how to copy the files from pc to phone while in recovery mode?

No need to flash Gapps, because this is stock based they are already included!
How to install1- Make a backup with TWRP just incase something goes wrong!
2- Go to TWRP and wipe system, data (not absolutely necessary if already running stock but if you have problems, wiping data may solve them), cache and dalvik-cache
3- Make sure you have an external sdcard (NOT FORMATTED FOR USE AS INTERNAL STORAGE) or usb otg drive to store your backups and ROM and other zips you want to flash! If you boot a ROM without flashing a zip to disable force encryption, your internal storage will be encrypted. If your external sdcard is formatted as internal storage and you format /data your external sdcard may also be wiped!
Encrypted internal and external storage CANNOT be accessed by your PC. If you have files there you need to save you'll need a usb otg drive to copy them from your device while the OS is booted.
4- Flash the ROM.
5- Flash the latest Magisk if you want root, or
-format data after flashing and reboot if you don't want root (data will be encrypted), or
-flash a zip to disable dm-verity (no-verity-opt-encrypt will make force-encrypt optional, no-verity-force-encrypt will force encryption).
6- REBOOT RECOVERY to make TWRP stick.
7- Reboot and Enjoy!

If anyone with Sprint or Retail models wants a partition updater for their device, please provide me with the OTA zip and I will make one for your device also. If anyone with Sprint or Retail models has already taken the OTA and has an untouched system backup they can provide, I can make an updated ROM for those models also. If not, I can't make an updated ROM until that stock firmware version had been released. Let me know if anyone experiences any issues and try to get some logs to help fix it.
Edit: I will make debloated and pre-rooted, patched kernel versions when I have time. It's kind of pointless with Substratum, but I may make deodexed versions in case anyone wants to do some theming.

I'm not sure what's up with that. Must be a AFH problem. If it doesn't work soon, I'll send them a message or reupload it I guess.
Edit: @Cleanser2012 link works now. I uploaded it again.
Is the OTA update for anything to do with performance? What happens if / when the "your internal storage data will be encrypted. "
I had an issue before where the /system wouldn't mount on another e4 plus , is that related?
Is there any difference/benefit to having it encrypted or not?

It does state that the update is for performance enhancements when it pops up on your phone. I know it has a lot of modem patches so it's mainly there. If you encrypt your storage, it will be encrypted. TWRP data backups don't normally restore properly, and you can't access your storage from a PC. If you don't know what it is, Google it. I don't encrypt, unless I'm just testing to see if it works in a rom I built. The only reason that I think it is beneficial, is if you want to make sure someone can't access your data if you lose your phone or if your affraid your girl might go snooping and see the nude selfie's you texted to your other girl, lol. As for the system mounting problem, I haven't had the problem myself to have to figure out, so I can't say.

Internal Storage shows up as 0 MB in TWRP

Was trying to install Lineage 14.1 a few moments ago, from my internal storage. Opened TWRP and noticed that the ROM zip wasn't showing up, so when I tried to switch storage, I noticed that the Internal Storage is showing as 0 MB.
Also when I opened the TWRP log (or whatever it's called), it shows something like 'Unable to mount /data'
I've heard this sort of thing happening when one's device is encrypted but mine isn't, so I'm at my wit's end so as to what's happening with my phone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Edit 1: Thank you for the replies, guys. I was able to solve the issue by flashing the custom TWRP linked on the ROM thread.
I had this problem recently too.
This is TWRP problem and new ROMs. To solve it I had installed OrangeFox R6-beta.
Unfortunately, I don't know version original TWRP where it fixed.

It is due to TWRP not handling encrypted storage properly. OrangeFox TWRP (R6 beta) fixes the problem. Get a copy here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/orangefox/files/mido/

If you have the necessary usb drivers installed on your PC, you can use fastboot to install the OrangeFox recovery image - extract recovery.img from the OrangeFox zip file, and run these commands
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot boot recovery.img
After that, you can install the full OrangeFox zip installer, using OrangeFox itself.

Yup. As others said too, it's a bug of newer treble roms such as Lineage or Pixel Experience. Also the fault of twrp which I'm not sure what causes the issue. Formatting /data/solved it temporarily. Flashing Orange Fox R6 beta solved the issue permanently. Although you will need an external storage with the flashable zip of the recovery on it. Get a 1-2 gb external sr card for dirt cheap, put the recovery on it then flash it via your current twrp. It's your best shot.

If you made sure your SD card is legit and bought it from trusted vendor then tested it with various tools so you can tell for sure it's working fine then make sure to save all of your important stuff to your micro SD card. Wipe your system/data/vendor/internal storage partitions in regular Twrp then do a factory reset or format data, they're the same.
Flashing order:
1) ROM
2) Open Gapps Package
3) Magisk (if required)
4) Kernel (if required)
5) Orange Fox
6) Reboot
7) If everything is fine reboot to recovery
Data should be mounted now.
Clean wipe, flash solves 99% of mounting / encryption / storage problems. If not it's likely that your problem is Hardware related.
only Orange Fox is not flashing on redmi note 4

Sir ROM and Gapps are successfully flashed (but showing failed to mount data) but orange is not flashing and also showing failed to mount data and storage
in Advance wipe out -> data -> showing 0 MB
Also tried change file system on ext4 but is also shows failed to mount data
I want to upload some images to show what exactly the error is but i cant find anywhere the option for attachment
and the image insert option is asking for an image link

WoW... I have no idea what to do further on. Did you try formatting data? Or just did a basic factory wipe?

step to downgrade from Pie to Miui

Hi i want to ask how is the right to to flash from Pie to Miui??
I do direct flash and i got encrypted so i format internal. But after that i still got encrypted.
Any help??
Thanks
in twrp (same twrp which you used to instal pie ) go to advanced wipe and select everything (except micro sd) and now copy your rom to internal and flash it . it should work
