Scrolling smoothness - Huawei Mate 9 Real Life Review

Some phones exhibit choppy scrolling, especially when navigating long web pages when multiple apps are running in the background. Rate this thread to express how you smooth scrolling feels on the Huawei Mate 9 under such conditions. A higher rating indicates that scrolling is always buttery smooth, even when you're reading a 10,000 word article on "how to kiss a girl".
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

The only choppy scrolling I've experienced so far (3 days of use in the US) is with the Twitter app Talon. I'm using the international version (MHA-L29).

Compared to the Nexus 6p, it's bad. Especially in instagram. I cannot stand how choppy it feels. I love the phone but this issue is a deal breaker

Hmm, interesting, i came from 6P to M9 few days ago.
On Nexus i was using pure nexus rom+elementalx kernel, on stock governor settings, when i put phones side by side, this Mate 9 performed better- opening apps, scrolling in chrome, google+ ,instagram, he only app that is stuttering a bit is facebook as always, but that app is crap due to low optimizations. 6P feels very smooth on fresh rom install, but after i set up few basic apps, use for a day, or go through few charges, it slows down very much, compared to Mate 9, who has much crap stock apps,e.t.c. Most stock apps like stock messenger and keyboard i replaced with google stock ones.:good:

I've mentioned this in another thread, on my device the only app with massive scrolling lag is Google Play Games, everything else is buttery smooth.
I use Instagram via Hermit so can't really comment on that one.

Honestly you're going to have to just expect some apps a little choppier than others. The one place where I really always judge it is by using Google now. The better optimized phones I find will be buttery. I had a slight hiccup here and there with my honor 8 compared to the oneplus 3t. My Mate 9 will be here tomorrow so I'm hoping all is well.

Same here, and the scrolling physics are screwy

In Talon, and less so in some other apps, the page seems to start scrolling slow, then speed up, then slow to a stop in a very unnatural way.

This is the smooth phone I have ever used.

Nexus 10 vs Note 10.1

Ok guys, my friend's Note 10.1 got in a bootloop and he asked me to fix it for him, as it will be with me for a few days and I've already fixed it I decided to do a comparison, feel free to ask for my opinion on things I don't mention.
First off I guess I'll start with the ports
On the left side there's nothing on the Note while on our Nexus we have the Micro USB port and the 3.5mm headphone jack, on the right side we have the micro HDMI out, the note doesn't have anything on this side either.
At the bottom we find the pogo charger on the N10 and the charger/USB/MHL port in the Note, the S Pen is located in the right bottom corner, there's a Mic located at the bottom in both of them.
At the top we find the volume rocker and the power/lock key while on the Note we find those along with an IR blaster and a Holy Micro SD card slot (god damn it google)
It's also worth noting that the Note doesn't have NFC.
This is subjective but the tacky back and sides of the Nexus make it far easier to hold and it feels solider., the glossy back on the Note doesn't feel nearly as bad as I thought it would.
The speakers
I didn't think I would write anything about these but after some use I noticed the speakers on the Note sound better, this must be thanks to Samsung's tuning, as I'm almost completely sure these devices share the same hardwarein this area, perhaps we can copy it?
Oh and by the way the Note has different sound profiles on the video player and Music app, all of them sound better but this isn't limited to these apps, the difference is found across all apps, launch Youtube or third party music players and you'll notice it.
I'll talk about the performance without bringing the benchmarks here as you can find those everywhere else, for this test I´ll be comparing my sister's N10 (which isn't rooted and is completely stock) with the stock Note.
The Note is running 4.1.2 while my sister's N10 is running 4.2.2, I'll start by clearing all recents and closing everything with the task manager on the Note
Scrolling across the homescreens and the app drawer is really smooth on both however there are micro lags on the Note - Disregard that, I had one update left and wehn I did it it got rid of the micro lags while this doesn't happen on the Nexus, I suspect this is the launcher's fault tough.
Launching apps happens at pretty much the exact same time most o the time, the Nexus is faster by fraction of a second some times.
The note does have more free RAM all of the time as it's GPU doesn't need as much of it as the on the N10, It can use as much as 1.78gbs of it while we can only use 1.2gbs
For the browser comparison I'll be using chrome beta on both, all browsing data has been cleared. I can compare the AOSP browser performance but I'd have to use my N10.
I'll just say that the sites load faster the Nexus, after that the browser experience is pretty much the same until you pinch to zoom which brings us to the screen section.
Edit: The S Pen is really useful when browsing as it can act as a mouse when you hover on website dropdown menus and the like.
The screens
This is probably where the biggest differences can be seen (as long as we don't talk about touchwiz), coming from the Nexus 10 you'll inmediately see the jagginess and lack of detail every f*cking where in the Note, from HD videos to text to images, sadly, this is the only thing the Nexus has going for it in the screen department.
The Note has a MUCH, MUCH better color reproduction, the next time I get my hands on my dad's iPad 3 I'll update this to tell you about a comparison between those 2 screens, I think the iPad looks better though.
Not only that but Samsung has also provided it with color modes which are a good thing to have, black levels between the N10 and the Note are comparable they are maybe a little darker in the note HOWEVER I've noticed the Nexus has a better black level (I believe that's how it's called, for reference go here www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/black.php) The note has trouble with the darker tones.
The screen on the note is far far more responsive than the one in the Nexus I beleieve this is a software issues icause on purpose in the Nexus, do the following:
Open the your favorite broswer and make your thumb and index finger touch each other as when you prepare to pinch to zoom, now, with both fingers together start the pinch gesture, you'll notice how the Nexus will NOT begin to pinch to zoom until your fingers are about 1/3" apart from each other, This isn't a hardware issue as if you enable the show touches option in developer setting yo ucan see the device is registering both of them.
Now download and install the Quickpic gallery app from the Play store and pinch to zoom the same way in there, you'll see how that app behaves, the is the way the Note/HP Touchpad/iPad behave when you pinch to zoom in them.
Edit: I forgot to mention that the Note doesn't have any kind of backlight bleed.
The camera
Well, while the Samsung camera app offers many more options than the stock 4.2 camera.for some reason it takes longer to focus and the pictures are NEVER even close to the quality the N10 offers, the pictures are just terrible, I think this is the same sensor as the one in the N10 but for some reason the pictures are full of noise and lack detail.
The front facing camera is just as good as the one in the N10, Hell, I think it's better than the rear facing one, and like in the Nexus, it's one of the best front facing cameras I've seen. (It's miles ahead of the iPad)
Well, that's all I can think of at the moment, feel free to ask about other differences.
Have you done any gaming on the note 10.1? I am especially interested in hearing about heavy games like MC4 or so as sometimes my N10 lags during gameplay for MC4. It is however pretty smooth on other games like Nova 3 and asphalt 7 with gorgeous graphics.
Thanks in advance if you consider this.
Sent from my GT-N7100 or the Nexus 10, heaven knows.
Those who help noobs go to heaven. True story.
What about the battery life? I am really curious about this question.
Sometimes the nexus 10 has some laggs while using the chrome browser.
I also miss the 3g modul in the n10
The battery on the Nexus is a bit better (my sister has a lot of battery sucking apps though, and I'm UV'ed in my Nexus so I won't use it to compare it with the Note) I have yet to try any heavy games, I'll run NFSMW later today after I flash the Note as it went back to the damn bug even after the ODIN restore.
Don't use Chrome... Use the stock browser or Boat browser.
No lags, delays, anything - pinch to zoom is ultrasmooth and pages load fast.
I get the feeling that people experiencing lags or sluggish behavior are running a ton of un-optimized widgets, because I never had any problems and my benchmark results are stupidly high compared to anything else.

I know but you can't load the AOSP browser on the Nexus unless you root it, I could use mine for comparison though.
I actually had the note 10.1 before i got the nexus 10. It was the white version and boy was she pretty. Just a little too much plastic for my taste. The screen was gorgeous! With all honesty I enjoy it a little better then the nexus 10 screen. I guess I'm a rich color type of guy. The downside of the things was the fact I felt the screen was built for the s pen using only. Every time I tried to swipe across a application it would open that app up if I wasn't using the s-pen. It got to the point where it was unbearable to use. So I got the nexus 10 And been loving this beast every since. I love the feel of the tablet, the front speakers are nice and the most important reason why I fell in love with this thing. Stock android and The SPEED!!!! The speed is the fastest i seen on any android devices and i had them all. Also the camera is one of the best you can find on a tablet.

You say the screen was better on the Note?? I just returned the note because I couldn't stand reading text on it, it was just too fuzzy for my tired old eyes. I was assuming the Nexus would be better being that it has a higher resolution. I guess I'll have to make a Staples run and see if they have the Nexus' in stock and see for myself.

He meant color wise, the screen on the Nexus I'd the shapest one you'll find on any tablet, reading on it is great but whoever calibrated it crippled it on purpose.
The N10 is sharp and you will have no problems as far as reading text on it.
Note port?
So I love my Nexus 10, but I was wondering if anyone has tought of porting the Note 10.1 ROM to the Nexus? I just need a little more productivity from this tablet. Plus the stock browser is faster than the chrome.
my nexus 10 also has the hdmi slot.. why the note 10,1 uses a samsung dongle.. like a apple type variant.. only samsung approved

Overall speed

Would you say that the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is "fast" in day-to-day use? A higher rating indicates that you think the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge exhibits fantastic performance. Like, is it as fast as your tears when you watch The Titanic?
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
No issue whatsoever with performance. Not one sign of lag or stutter yet.
fastest smartphone i've used....
Yeah super fast coming from note 4 which I was happy with. Super duper fast
Works great for my daily things, and even the few games I play.
Size and spec of the s7 edge makes it my daily device and it works perfectly so far.
Coming from ip6s+, but also had before that N6p,N5 and s6 edge. So I compare it to good devices and not some low end device..

its fast, dunno how good it is compared with other newer phones, but everything runs smooth, games are awesome!
Setting everything was super fast, did a reboot and charging up to take a break, coming from a Note 4, which was reasonably fast, but this thing has zero lag so far.
GS7
this is a great phone, you can get the performance that you want and easily to use :good:
Snappiness of this phone has put my Note 4 to shame, particularly with switching to and from camera to gallery.
The sd card max transfer speeds are not up to par for 2016. Everything else is great.
Galaxy S7 edge is really fast, I do all multi tasking stuff like running multiple apps, playing game, downloading and auto updates parallely and its still runs with full speed. like all other samsung mobiles S7 edge runs with high speed.
No lag for me yet.
I can easily get mine to freeze up or lag.

Same here. There is microlag when scrolling all throughout Touchwiz. For the most part its smooth and seamless but for everyone saying they haven't seen lag, you probably have.
There is just a strong chance that it wasn't sustained lag which makes it easy to be dismissive of it.
It is especially noticeable when coming from the N6P (chalking this up to stock android not being bloated)

Agreed, I have seen micro lag, but nothing to irritating. It got much better when I disabled everything (everything that is dis-ableable anyhow) from Samsung and Verizon as always. Also as always once its rooted we can disable the rest and ti will fly. Its a shame that we have to do that, but it is what it is. I would do anything for an S7 Edge with stock Android... Better yet, a Nexus Edge
Hi, and what about the most performance demanding games? I use these expensive phones as portable consoles and if I invest 800€ into phone, which is price of computer, I expect every single game on google play smooth at 50 fps. But on some ytb videos I have seen some microshutter and fps drops for example in Dead trigger 2, Asphalt 8 or GTA san andreas. Dont know which version it was, but I prefer adreno 530 gpu which is not on market in my country :/ . I actually dont care very much about fast app launching/loadings or appdrawer, but for me most important is FPS when game is already loaded. Or can I lower res to 1080p to eliminate any FPS issue? Did anyone compared gaming exynos vs snapdragon? (not benchmarks, real gaming FPS) .
PS: Please keep hate and comments like phone is not for gaming away, Im listening it all the time. But i am heavy gamer at any platform and if I wanted phone for calls and sms I could stick with my old nokia 3310. But thanks for any possible useful info from owners of this phone
Only time I had lag was with Chrome. I'm using the Samsung browser now and it's fast. The update seems like it made my phone fast not that it was slow. I'm happy. Oh I'm using Nova so that probably helps.
most of it is fast except slight lag once in awhile. fps is slower compare to my oneplus 2
some games are laggier than on my Sony Z3, sometimes the transitions lag as well
Great speed

App launch speed

maybe apps aren't optimized yet for the new chipset and new version of android... there are lags for some apps...
I agree, there are lags on some apps. I am experiencing major lag on Dolphin Browser.
It's fast, but touchwiz is heavy!
it's really fast device
Really smooth.
App launching isn't amazing but it works just fine.
Pretty impressed

Use a different launcher like nova and the phone is very fast.
It is very fast for me
S7 Edge Blue Coral
The device is zippy and fast when opening and closing apps.
It just works. I am comparing this to my experiences with the Snapdragon 820 Note 7 which had laggy responses when launching and closing apps.
The Exynos Chip is fantastic
Up to an iPhone level. But some cases, specially gaming, it can be slow.
I have been facing lags while opening Snapchat and sometime Facebook, Snapchat lag is noticeable, at first s7 edge had no lag but its noticable after almost an year of use... Its an snapdragon variant..
Really fast device, but it sucks in gaming, because the games aren't optimised for its Vulcan API, and for the device also.. But who needs games? when telephone is for calling, texting?

Mine is having a issue of shuttering and choppy scrolling while using twitter or opening a web page need to wait at least 1 sec for the browser. or is it my perception because I was using previous 90 hz display on Red Magic 3 for almost 8 months
My 975F scrolls smoothly, buttery smooth, I see no problems whatsoever, but, if compare it to a screen with 90, 120, etc Hz of refreshing rate, obviously differnces would be evident, that is, DIFFERENCES, not issues
Regardless of the phone's loading factor, teh scrooling is always very smooth. What I did encounter however is in certain situations GBoard gets very laggy, and no amount of apps closing down seems to fix it. What make it better though is to switch the screen off and turn back on, and the keyboard is, again, very responsive.
as usual not smooth and fast like Chinese softwares
I cam from.p30 pro and it was much faster and smoother with A10
vivo nex 3 too way way faster and smoother
samsung needs to make oneui more smoother
Mine was butter smooth when i first got it Android 9. Now that i've updated to Android 10 its went straight down the sh#*er!!! laggy AF on most games and web pages..

I updated to 10 with ui 2.0, and it behaves exactly as before, scrolls and transitions are smooth, no lags, no stutters, but I have seen some posts where users complain about ui 2.1

Try resetting network settings. A poor internet connection will cause that.
The Note 10+ its self runs very fast unless overheated or because of rogue apk(s). 3rd party apks including carrier and Samsung bloatware can raise hell... ditch as many as you don't need.
Google Transport is another habitual offender; turn it off. Turn off all Google, Samsung and carrier feedback.
AT&T updates is just about malware and a pig; block when not updating if running an AT&T variant.
Sometimes it's better to turn some off rather than use a package blocker as using a blocker will leave other dependencies constantly polling the disabled apk (sucking up resources needlessly) such as the case with Google Transport.
I run with animations disabled in Developer Mode which adds a bit more speed. Use Running Processes in same to track them down and well as Samsung's Battery Tracker.

The performance of the phone is top notch. No lags or anything of that sorts. But coloros is an eyesore. It looks bad and there are no custom roms yet.

I have to agree with you, but maybe my condition is a bit different.
I don't have lags, but in some cases (scrolling long internet pages, scrolling long lists like ringtones) the fluidity is a bit "jelly". I mean, with a "powerful" swype up the page should scroll continuously, but it gets slower in some points.

I dunno why but for me , scrolling through YouTube and YouTube music is choppy and also , the 60hz mode is more choppy than usual 60hz displays,,, any fix on that?
