That's a peculiar problem .try turning off on screen keys and turn on hardware keys. Restart and turn on on-screen keys.

Not working..
On-screen navigation buttons autohiding perfectly (buttons with transparent black background).
Now it's suddenly turn into black background with buttons and navigation bar does not auto hide (goes down like Nexus devices)
Simple words - want to use full screen again.

Well, try doing factory reset. I can't think of any reason why this would happen. Even if u raise a support ticket, first thing they will do is factory reset. So backup your data and do a factory reset.

Ya, I was thinking of that. But I wanted solution without formatting device. It will be lengthy process as device not rooted. Someone should come up with solution before Sunday otherwise factory reset will be only option for me.
Wiping cache and dalvik cache will help?

No notifications!

Hey guys, would really appreciate some help with my S2 that has messed up for some reason since yesterday! I am on Neat Rom 4.4.2 build v4.9, and since yesterday the phone rebooted and somehow went to factory settings. I am not receiving any notifications for anything (calls, msgs, app notifications etc). The notification bar does not display anything either, and the "tiles" dont work when I click on them either. I have not made any changes and it all happened suddenly please help! Many many thanks.
Sorry also forgot to mention my home key is not working either, pressing it only turns on the screen, but it does not function as a home key, and double tapping it does not bring up recents. The same problem with menu and back keys to which I assigned functions such as kill app and search on long press are not working either. Also, my screen is not locking at all by pressing the power button/screen timeout/go to sleep tile.
Format system, data, cache, preload then reflash ROM and gapps. Reboot.
Thanks, I did a factory reset and that has solved the problems thankfully.

Almost all apps (including launcher) crash

Hey all,
Just got my new OnePlusX and the first time I turned it on it prompted all the set up screens. I had to skip through them all because the keyboard would not stay open. It would open and then immediately minimize. Not a great start but no problem, I'll add my accounts and connect to wifi later.
Once I get into the 'home screen' I could see my status bar at the top but no icons and no way to access the app draw. I pressed the capacitive buttons and opened the notification slider which both worked and eventually got into the play store. From here I installed an app or two and got prompted to do a system update, which I did.
After the update I was hoping my launcher would work.. it didn't. The home screen is a black screen with the status bar at the top and no icons - the home button seems to do nothing when I'm in an app and press it.
I installed a third party launcher which worked - I now have a home screen and app draw. However, after opening an app, it crashes after a second or two (chompSMS does this as well as messenger, phone and contacts which are stock apps).
Does anyone have any information about this, what can I do here?
I know one option might be flashing a custom rom but being a brand new phone that should most definitely not be something I have to do to be able to call and message people..
Update: I ran a factory reset and all problems seemed to be resolved now. Not sure what was going on but I guess something happened that a reboot couldn't fix. I'll leave this post in case it helps others.
Have you done a factory reset after the system update??

Navkey

I've enabled the navkey, but the capacitive buttons are still working, i have tried editing the key layout settings but its still there.. Also tried gravity box but no luck.. Any help? Thanks
Use gravity box to disable backlight (under display section). Then use a file manager and editor with root access (I used ES File Explorer) and open the file synaptics_dsx.kl (it is located under system>user>keylayout) and then edit it by adding a # in front of the key entries. Save, reboot and your hardware keys should be off

Thanks mate, i have disabled the light though editing synaptics didnt work, but i figured it out by editing atmel_mxt_T100_touchscreen.kl,
Now, my problem is switching the back button and recent..
Why do you want to do that?
---------- Post added at 09:23 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:19 AM ----------
I have enabled the soft keys via buildprop, disabled the hardware keys in the synaptic file, disabled the backlight and added double tap home key to sleep and long press home key for menu using gravity box. Looking good with the Pixel launcher, although unfortunately don't get the transparent white dock background.

You can do it manually if you have root, just need to change a value from 1 to 0 in the buildprop file (it's easy to find the relevant line as it has a description). However, I just use a free root app called Softkey Enabler from the Play Store. This makes it very quick to enable or disable the nav bar.
I leave the hardware keys on (because their long press functions are useful) but in accessibility settings I switch their layout around to match the nav bar. I use another root app called Keyboard Backlight Controller to disable their backlight.

I am currently using 17S based Cuoco92. Fingerprint recognition has been just fine for me on Cuoco92, and on stock 16S, 17S and 19S - fast and accurate. The nav bar I have is transparent, just like in stock android. To disable the hard keys, go into system-usr-keylayout and edit the synaptics file (just add a # in front of the lines relating to the keys).

No, don't think there's anything you can do about that I'm afraid. I have actually gone back to just using the hard keys as they come. The soft nav keys are nice, but bit of a waste of screen space when you have perfectly good hard keys there to use.

Yea your right about that but the screen is big so having on screen buttons help in using the phone with one hand
I am surprised how the hardware buttons completely disappears when not back lit better then even OnePlus one
I have put a request in the feedback app for a feature like OnePlus one for choice between on screen and off screen

I would love them to add that feature. It was one of the best things about CM13 on my Zenfone 2.
Currently I am using the stock eui launcher (it's so smooth and light, and I don't really need an app drawer because I don't download so many apps) and the soft keys don't go so well with that launcher, but I also have the Pixel launcher installed, and I really like using the soft keys with that.

Screen off memo - I Can't...

I like the Screen off memo feature where I can pull out the S-pen and start writing notes without turning my phone on! But none of the icons at the top of the Screen off memo work. They are all grayed out, kinda. When I press them, nothing happens so I can't change the width of the pen or anything. I checked my settings and don't see anything different from my wife's Note8 and hers works perfectly fine.
Anyone know how to fix this? Below is a screenshot of my phone and here is a tutorial video from Samsung...

My note 5 had this feature. Love it to death
Try toggle the Screen Off memo option on/off...also maybe try it in Safe Mode to see if it works there.
I don't see that 3rd pin icon one mine.?
By the way...read what I wrote in red below, weird but interesting....

True, a lot of people say they don't see the PIN icon. I don't see it if I'm on a call and my screen off memo works fine. But if I'm off a call the PIN icon is there but the screen off memo icons at the top don't work. BUT in SAFE mode all works fine and the PIN icon shows up. So I think we all have 3rd party apps that is screwing with the Screen off memo feature one way or another.

Thanks for the reply! I called Samsung tech support and they asked me to do the same same thing but still no luck. Here are the steps they gave me...
Open Settings>Advanced features>S Pen
Toggle the buttons on/of for (Air view, Direct pen input, Pointer, Screen off memo).
This didn't work. Then they had me power off my phone. Wait 10 seconds, power it back on and while it's powering on, press and hold the volume down key until you see the home screen. This puts the phone in SAFE mode. It says SAFE MODE in the bottom left of the screen.
Sure enough, while in SAFE mode the icons at the top worked. So they said an app seems to be interfering with this feature...
BUT I found something out while doing this...
IF I'M ON A PHONE CALL, THE ICONS AT THE TOP OF SCREEN OFF MEMO WORK FINE BUT THERE IS NO PIN ICON. If I'm off the phone, the icons at the top don't work and there IS A PIN ICON. ????? So what's that about? If an app is causing screen off memo not to work correctly, why does it work when I'm on the phone?
Then I pointed out that whenever I restart my phone I get a window that pops up saying Touchwiz crashed do I want to restart it. Definitely have some bugs....
Last, the tech said I can go into my local Best Buy where they can reflash my phone to see if this gets it working again.

Hmm. Do you use AOD? Cause the PiN icon only appears if you use AOD right? Maybe toggle AOD off and see if it's the same issue.
Will, taking the phone to get flashed @ BB reset your phone? If so, I would just try a Factory Reset beforehand...and see if that resolves anything.

Good point, I turned off AOD and sure enough no PIN icon. But the other icons still don't work on my phone. I then turned on AOD and the PIN icon is there. Other icons still don't work.
So you just figured out why some people don't see the PIN icon. They must have AOD turned off. BUT why would the PIN icon disappear while I'm on a phone call and I have AOD turned on? Maybe that's just my phone?
Last, Samsung tech said reflashing won't delete any info on my phone so I'll confirm this with them before I do.

Cerberus App Interferes With Screen Off Memo!
The problem that was causing my screen off memo not to work correctly is the Cerberus app. Samsung in BestBuy fixed it!
After uninstalling a couple other apps that I thought it was I still had the issue but once I uninstalled this app which is an app that I like but I'll email the developer to let them know to see if they can fix why it's interfering with the screen off memo.
So I took my phone in to BestBuy and went to the Samsung kiosk and the guy fixed it in about 2 minutes. First he said he's concerned it's an app that is causing my issue with the screen off memo and then he told me which three of the apps he was concerned about and sure enough he was right. So he also optimized my battery and RAM by clearing the cache in the ram. At first we thought that is what did it but then the problem came back and I ended up uninstalling the three apps he thought it was and sure enough it was the Cerberus app.
Here's the reply email I just received from the Cerberus app dev...
"Hi Nick,
Sorry but the only way to implement the block status bar feature is to block touches on the top part of the screen when the device is locked. Unfortunately there is no way for Cerberus to realize that other apps are opened over the lock screen, such as the camera or Screen Off Memo."
One more thing, you can not pin memos if you use the edge clock
Hey guys, i found that there is a way to use the of screen memo with Cerberus status bar block. Basically the overlay that blocks that area does block most of the icons so they are unresponsive, BUT if you tap the very bottom of the icons you will find a small area that isn't blocked by the overlay. Just tap repeatedly in the lower area of the icons, it will definitely work. Once you know where to tap you won't have to tap repeatedly and you can keep that vital part of Cerberus security.?
Screen off memo pin option will on my written when to out have your Always in display turned on. If always on display is off, the option will not be available

After the last Android update, I cannot click the menu bar or access the pull-down menu.

It's quite annoying. I cannot access the menu bar anymore. Looks like the first cm of the screen cannot be accessed.
If I go to settings, I can use it. In other apps, such as WhatsApp it's not accessible. It happened after the restart when it updated Android to v12.
Does anybody know a workaround?
To be more precise, the upper part of the screen can't be accessed. If I rotate the screen into landscape mode, it's fine. I can also not click buttons or text on the upper screen area. It's about 1 cm from the top. Everything else from down there works.
And as I said in my original post. If I open an app, the upper screen area works as well, so it's not a hardware issue.

Do you use an app like Energy Bar? I reset my phone for the same issue and whe reinstalling each app I found it was Energy Bar causing the issue, I guess because it requests screen overlay permissions?
