I'm really pissed of with Google, it seems that their ways to stop us from using what they doesn't want is by killing what we use...
My Nexus 5X already died into the bootloop issue, and today I've just seen that the Nexus 6P is having the exact same issue, which they say as a faulty hardware (Really? 2 completely different brands, with the EXACT SAME ISSUE? You must to be kidding me..).
This is not the first time that Google is killing what we use.
I'm a user of Miracast technology, since marshmallow it wasn't present, but you could activate via a build.prop tweak if you are rooted, in nougat they introduced a bug (yes, intentionally), that the phone will crash If you this tweak and connect to the tv, forcing me to buy their Chromecast 2.
This is not the only thing, have you ever wondered why the hell it doesn't has QI charging? To make us to use their "Fast charging USB C solution..
The Nexus 6 has also had something similar with it's notification LED, which can be activated only If rooted..
Now I really don't know what to do, I'm thinking of downgrading to Marshmallow before my phone got into bootloop, and not having another paper weight on my desk.

I agree. It is getting ridiculous. All of the reasons we love the Nexus line are becoming blurry. Miracast is a huge one. Smart tv, Xbox One, and now I have to have a damn Chromecast as well. I'm starting to feel like Apple users must feel. Poor souls.
I don't understand. My Miracast works perfectly fine with Panasonic TVs and LG.

Are you on stock 7.1? Also did you enabled in build.prop and it worked?
My device won't work with my Samsung TV JS7200 or Windows 10 Miracast receiver.

I am on stock 7.0.1 (latest). I didn't change anything in build.prop. I just go to Settings -> Display -> Cast
I've read online that it works with older Miracast (first, second gen) TVs. For e.g. it works with Roku 3 but not 4.

Given that the 6P has a metal build and that no other metal phones(from the top of my head) have Qi charging, I would assume it was due to the the metal build. And in regards to saying that they are just trying to sell "Fast Charging USB C solution", wouldn't you think that they would generate more revenue from implementing a convenient way to charge a phone?
Based on your opinion and what you had said, it sounds like the S8 is the perfect device for you. It's so great to have a plethora of device choices!

Well, my dead Nexus 5X has a plastic body and Google removed QI Charger from it too, something I found really useful, which I was using since Nexus 4 and had to stop on the new ones..

Google played a "good guy" comparing to Apple for a few years now, and I really saw this coming. Basically they're just the same. Profit, profit, profit.
You want to cast? Buy a Chromecast.
I really wouldn't be surprised if their Project Fi gains success, and they decide to lock their future devices to their own network.
Nokia years ago was really something else, but it was in the way of the American capitalism so they had to remove it from their perfect market picture.

I can confirm that miracast works on my Roku 3. I am stock 7.1.1. not rooted.

Miracast will be available after the update. Which happen last night. Now all you need is a receiver to do the handshaking. The netgear one would do and after it is on you wireless network you would just stream to it like you would a windows media extender. By 2013, so early next year tvs once they start calling them smart tvs :cyclops: will have this feature built into it. Here we come google tv. wouldnt that be sweet to have a nexus 60 inch tv?? or bigger.

Just to be clear to any readers out there, whether or not there will be Miracast support for the Nexus 10 is unknown and anyone stating otherwise is speculating. What is known is that there will be Miracast for the Nexus 4, but no official reports from google have come out for the Nexus 10.

I phoned Google Tech Support this morning and asked if the Nexus 10 would have Miracast functionality "out of the box".
Tech guy couldn't answer for sure and promised to respond back to me later via email.
5 hours later, amazingly (to me anyway), I received an email back from him stating that he got clarification on this question and that, yes, Miracast is good to go "out of the box" on the Nexus 10.
I still won't believe it until someone with a unit confirms it.
Miracast is basically just a superset of WiFi Direct, doesn't require any additional hardware on the broadcast device...if it can use WiFi Direct, it can do Miracast with the proper software.
So I'm not worried about it being on the N10, if the software isn't there just yet, it will come.

Yeah, I had called them and asked them too. He had no idea what Miracast was and so I explained it to him. He said he'll have to ask his supervisors and put me on hold. He came back and said "Yeah, you can stream and watch movies on your tv from your tablet and stuff." I said, "Yeah, but specifically Miracast...Does the Nexus 10 support Miracast?" He then said that's more of a hardware question and I'd need to call Asus. Asus huh? Interesting. Are they taking Samsung support calls now. I just ended it there knowing I wasn't going to get anywhere.

My understanding is that while the capability might be there if Wifi-Direct is there, it still doesn't mean that it will be Miracast certified and thus might not be supported by Android.

FWIW, I have a Galaxy Nexus running Jelly Bean 4.1.1, which supports Wi-Fi Direct. I also have a Netgear PTV3000 WiDi/Miracast capable adapter. My phone sees the adapter, but there is no mirroring to a display.

No, just sharing that a WiDi/Miracast capable adapter recognized a Wi-Fi Direct device, a substantiation of Croak's earlier post.
I'm now of the belief that the reason we haven't heard something official from Google is because the Nexus 10 has been submitted for Miracast Certification but is still under review. Makes complete sense. They can't say it supports Miracast until it passes Miracast Certification. They don't want to say it doesn't because they think they'll ultimately get the certification. So for now they just stay silent. Whereas the Nexus 4 has already completed Miracast Certification so that one they could officially announce. Perhaps the same reason they've been silent on the Nexus 7, which being that it has a Tegra 3 in it and Nvidia says Tegra 3's have built in support for Miracast and are working towards certification, should mean that theoretically it is capable.

That actually makes a ton of sense. I also read somewhere that Netgear is working on updating the software on its PushTV3000 to support the Nexus devices that have Wifi Direct/Miracast. They hope to have that done by next week, apparently.

The new HDHR4 should be coming soon (they said mid 2013 at CES), it is a network dual tuner that connects to your wireless router via ethernet ... you can then access the tuners on many different devices.
The new version is said to have a native android app, hardware transcoding and DLNA.. I can't wait, i will be buying it on day one.

The idea of HD Homerun is very interesting but I do not know if i will pay 100$ when my usb stick for pc costed 15$. I want a usb stick to be used in my house because i do not have a television in my bedroom or in my kitchen where i have a plug to connect a dvb-t.
I have seen a conceptronic device (CTVDIGANG) but i do not see any review and in the specifications doesn't say if it is compatible with our tablet. Has anybody tried this one (or other similiar)?
The app recommend by babylonbwoy has horrible reviews. Have you successed connecting your Pinnacle PCTV Hybrid Pro Stick 330e to your android?

Well the biggest problem with that app is that it only supports Android 3.1, at least that's what it says in the description.
There is a TVMan app that seems to have good reviews but I don't know if you can use it with any dvb-t stick and I don't really know much about dvb-t sticks...

True for bad review but it has at the same time 389 G+ recommendations... Don't know what to think.

In french translated playstore it looks like it says from 3.1 but not sure, and I don't find the change langage option in playstore new ui to check how is it in english. Last update is from july 9, again difficult to understand all that.

It states only for 3.1 in English, that's what I read it in the first time, hence my comment. I find it very odd that he has yet to update the app to at least 4.0 if it works in any way. The only positive review he had was when the guy tested it at his house, when he went to work (where he wanted to use it mainly) it didn't work because he had to forward ports (I think that's what he said) and even then it still didn't fully function. It seems really really sketchy to me.

No, he didn't delete it. He jacked the price up to $6.50 and changed the name of it so he could get rid of those negative reviews and sucker people into buying his app. It wouldn't surprise me of he has done this several times before. Here is his new link:

I am considering reporting him, I don't like to make a fuss but it was obvious his app was **** and didn't work at all and noe he has changed it to get rid of the reviews so he can make more money on people who don't know any better.

Now it has changed from the app only supporting "android 3.1" ,which there was no 3.1 only 3.0, to only supporting kernel version 3.10.

I wonder how people can try this in 15mn allowed by Google, he has not even a demo version, and if he change name of his app refund will be hard to get ! Not a good bet in long term, he will rip fews people maybe but negative review will come back sooner or later.

I did a bit of thinking after my initial pay and deleted him. I explained everything thoroughly so hopefully Google will do something. It would help if other people reputed him as well. I hate to see people lose their hard earned money to some scam artist.

DTV would be good but isn't having loads of wires defeating the object of have a small, lightweight portable unit? Out of curiosity I'd like to try with my USB DVB-T tuner but I don't think it's something I'd use all the time.
I set up a Mediaportal Server running from my main NAS which has a Dual DVB-S2 tuner. With a little messing I now have full live TV on the tablet anywhere. I got the 16GB wifi version so I use my phones 3G for it when I'm out and about. I also set up a web server running from the same backend that links into my Movie and TV show database. With Dolphin and the Flash plugin, you can get Live TV, Video, TV Shows and Music from your home server/NAS in a browser. The easiest way is to set up Mediaportal and MPextend, then just use aMPdroid on the tablet. It's not a 5 minute set up by no means but worth it in the end.

I have a Nova TD USB but I've not tried this direct in the tablet. My live TV comes via my NAS server.

Oh yes I'll try at some point. Trying to find a driver that will run it will be the hard part. Maybe when the CM people and Ubuntu really start digging into these devices we may get a working one but up to now I've had no luck. I have a few old USB types to try so I'm not limited to Hauppauge.
I must repeat what I said before though.. With the tools we have these days, there's no point in having bits hanging out of any wireless enabled device. The benefits just aren't there. I can get any UK channel on my tablet nigh on anywhere that has 3G if I wish. I don't worry about DVB-T/S signal strength as it's fed from my home aerial or dish. And as a bonus I get my film and TV collection too. From what you guys have said, you have the hardware and the software for both PC and Android is free so you might as well put it to use until it can be tested direct in the tablet.... Or that's the way I see it
I'll let you know if I find anything out and we will see if we can get one in the tablet running.
Will the new Nexus 6 have slimport capability? Looking at the Google store, it doesn't look good. It's not mentioned like the Nexus 5 ports. What are people going to do? I tried to use my Chromecast but while watching movies there is a bad delay between video and audio. Is that the plan?

According to this thread on reddit, someone contacted Analogix who then confirmed that the Nexus 6 won't have SlimPort compatibility. It's also not listed in Analogix's list of compatible SlimPort devices. Considering that GSMArena is literally the only source that claims the Nexus 6 has SlimPort compatibility, I would take this with a grain of salt. Hopefully we'll get some more clarity about this soon.

It's already been done......in another thread.....by me. It DOES NOT WORK. Doesn't mean that someone won't figure out how to activate it though. At least I'm hopeful it can be done......

I definitely believe Google is heading in that direction. The fact that there is a Cast Screen quick toggle makes it pretty obvious that Google wants us to use our chromecast's for this. Slimport didn't work for me either with the N6, looks like our only option is mirror casting.

Problem with this is, what if you're on the road? Chromecast in it's current state is not a good travel companion as it can't authenticate to most hotel wifi's.
Is miracast the future.
Miracast is the biggest crock of horse$%^& I've ever seen. So many devices I've had that passed through my hands with Miracast inside: "promised" "the future" "DLNA" "seemless" sorcery!
I'll take a good hardline any day of the year. This seems to smack of a backwards thinking move. Between this and the disabling the LED notification light...

Here's what I do when traveling. I have one of these. My traveling chromecast (and my phone) is set to this device's internal (secure) wi-fi. I can then use an app on my phone to connect the device to the hotel's public wi-fi (or ethernet, if that's available), and it acts as a bridge. If there's a login, I can do that from my phone as well, and the hotel will activate the MAC of the router, providing Internet access for all devices on the internal network (e.g. my chromecast).
What's more, this is an external battery. So, I can plug the chromecast's power into the battery, then plug the battery into the wall. The battery charges (in case I need it later for my phone) and the chromecast is powered, all with one wall adapter. (This particular battery can charge other devices while it's charging.)
It's a bit tedious, but it works.

Oh yeah, i'm set. I have a verizon mifi router that I can use with chromecast with an external battery pack. I'm macguyver, but I still prefer to have slimport. It's just quicker and easier and chromecast mirroring doesn't support all my mkv's audio.

The only problem with that is that you're using your Verizon data pool. Not a biggie if you're granfathered into their unlimited data, but could be an issue if you're not. HD movies (even at 720P) can really chew through your data allowance.

I just received a few hours ago my Nexus 9 and I checked both, Slimport and MHL but doesn't work. The Slimport device works fine with my Nexus 5 and my TV but the Nexus 9 doesn't work.

I'm very disappointed with this issue...
Maybe could be a problem with the inside configuration of my Slimport, I had notice that some Slimport works fine in some devices but doesn't work in others due changes inside micro usb port (different cable connections).
But still.... In my Nexus 5 the Slimport works absolutely fine....

somehow it seems you hit the nail. i was very waiting for the nexus 9 and i am so disapointed what i see about it that it makes me really sad. this device is so full of wrong decisions, irrational design flaws and build quality issues that i am nearly speachless. and then it is quite expensive for the few it offers.
it is quite "interesting" that the nexus 6 PHONE gets 3GB ram, upto 64GB rom and the 64bit os nexus 9 only 2GB and a zram swap using 512MB to gain a little bit by compression >.> and then it seems to have some issues with otg, lack of micro hdmi or slimport etc.
i don't get it. what's the point htc? trying to debut as the worst nexus manufactor ever?
Terrible. This is the final nail in the coffin for my "should I get the Nexus 9" decision. Glad I got the Shield Tablet at release and will stick with that for a while now, probably until Nvidia release their next tab.

So if I get everything right that means : the new Nexus 9 doesn't have wireless charging. It doesn't have support for MHL nor SlimPort.
OK : maybe it's really handy with a Chromecast key... but that's a foul limitation.
Chromecast simply does not work when you have no Wi-Fi.

I want to be able to show .ppt presentations to my students.
But I don't always have a network, or the LP to the University network.
So, I just can't do it ? While I coudl do it with my Nexus 7 2012 ?

Likely just not a popular thing to have. I have a slimport cable that i just never used for the past year once I got chromecast. Now i understand I'm not a professor with that specific need. if that's a deal breaker I'd just return it get a 2013 N7 and spend the $300 you save on something else. maybe a shield tablet. Tablets, tablets everywhere!
I have tried several times to connect smart view to my TV with both my new Galaxy note 8 as well as my wife's. It appears Samsung has put a block on it so true mirroring is no longer possible but selected files can be used through Samsung connect or other 3rd party apps.
Does anybody have any ideas on how to get this to work properly as my older devices do?

I have a Samsung 55in 4k tv and just found this feature today. I was able to cast what was on my tv back to my phone. It was pretty cool.

Was able to cast my note8 screen to the 1st gen and 2nd gen Chromecast, as well as a Samsung WiFi TV. Have not tried it on the Nexus Player yet. Will update with results

I appreciate your input but FHD+ is my default setting for my display And that's what I keep it on unless I'm using VR gear.
I was on the phone with a Samsung representative for 45 minutes and they could not figure it out. She said I should have true Screen Mirroring but no matter what we tried it would not work unless we used a 3rd party app . And then it's not true mirroring , it's just selected media share.

Try removing the 3rd party casting apps. I had AllCast installed on my S8+ and that turned out to be the problem.
Been there, done that.
I removed all 3rd party apps till there was nothing left but to hit the mirroring button in the drop down menu and this did not help
were you able to find out the solution to your problem? I am facing the same problem and have tried the solutions mentioned in this thread. It does not work for me . Any help is appreciated.

Samsung is becoming more like apple everyday with proprietary software. My older Samsung devices work on everything. The Note 8 and I would assume the same would be for the S8 and S8 Plus will only do true screen mirroring with Samsung devices. I remembered that my Blu-ray player which is Samsung is also Wireless and will do mirroring and it worked just fine. Then I tried it on a flat panel 2017 Samsung TV and again it worked just fine but go to any other brand or older TV and you have to use third-party software which does not do true screen mirroring. In your settings on any older phone you will have a setting for mirroring in the Advanced connections. But if you look in the settings for the Note 8 the only mirroring setting you find is for a USB connection to your car. Samsung is more and more making it impossible to connect to anything easily but their own devices.

But in my case I own a series 6 samsung led f6400 and still I am not able to connect.The connection happens for a moment and then the screen mirroring terminates. Am I missing any setting?
It works just fine with my note 8 and Samsung TV.

I had this exact same problem. The solution was stupidly simple. When I hit "smart view" all the devices show up. Tapping on the device I want does not work. I actually had to hold down on the device I wanted for a second, and it immediately connected.
It worked totally fine on FHD+ though, it must be a bug. Hold it on WQHD+.

Yes, that worked. Thank you. I wasn't sure exactly what you meant when you said you have to hold it down but it's long hold. If you long hold the icon on the phone when selecting the Samsung smart TV, then in my case I got a request for a validation code which appeared on my TV. It worked. I have the same problem with the Galaxy note 8, and the Galaxy S8. This is definitely a bug, because it actually said it was connected. But then it would time out and the Screen Mirroring on the TV would stop. So glad you came up with the solution. Thanks for sharing with us
If you send a video from notes 8 to the Smart Tv to you is it fluid? To me it jams and then it takes back.

This is the whole reason, scratch that, one of the big reasons (among so many) why the note 8 will be the last Samsung device that I purchase. I have a Galaxy S5 that screen mirrors with audio to any TV. I also have a Galaxy Grand Prime, which is a mid level device, rooted with oreo on it and it screen mirrors just fine.
This is now why I have just firmly decided why I'm gonna root this device and put oreo or pie on it, chalk the rest all up to experience and call it a day. Screw the Samsung software. The next device will be a one plus or Pixel or lastly maybe Motorola. Unbranded and boot loader unlockable. Never again will I deal with a company that wants to double their prices on devices in just two years till they are now $1000 and then eliminate so many features that the hardware is more than capable of thus making your device half as appealing as other flagship devices. Handcuff you and locking the boot loader up tight so you can't do what you want to do with your device you spent a $1000 on. That is all just discussing to me. Big business wanting you to pay more more astronomical dollars all the while wanting to control you and your device more and more. So long, and nice knowing you Samsung but I never really believed in or bought into your marketing and business model.

I actually like Samsung Electronics but I agree with you here. This is my last phone from Samsung because I don't like the fact that it's locked down like that.. What also pisses me off is the fact that Samsung is USING Android as their operating system and Android is OPEN SOURCE software and Samsung shouldn't be taking an open source software and then locking it down! That's like buying a car and then taking the name of it off and putting your own brand name on it and that's not right at all.
