Galaxy note 8 - Screen share ( Mirroring ) Does not work. - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

I have tried several times to connect smart view to my TV with both my new Galaxy note 8 as well as my wife's. It appears Samsung has put a block on it so true mirroring is no longer possible but selected files can be used through Samsung connect or other 3rd party apps.
Does anybody have any ideas on how to get this to work properly as my older devices do?

I have a Samsung 55in 4k tv and just found this feature today. I was able to cast what was on my tv back to my phone. It was pretty cool.
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk

Was able to cast my note8 screen to the 1st gen and 2nd gen Chromecast, as well as a Samsung WiFi TV. Have not tried it on the Nexus Player yet. Will update with results

Try resetting your display resolution to FHD+. That's what I had to do

Wow that actually worked!

Thanks for the info.
I appreciate your input but FHD+ is my default setting for my display And that's what I keep it on unless I'm using VR gear.
I was on the phone with a Samsung representative for 45 minutes and they could not figure it out. She said I should have true Screen Mirroring but no matter what we tried it would not work unless we used a 3rd party app . And then it's not true mirroring , it's just selected media share.

Try removing the 3rd party casting apps. I had AllCast installed on my S8+ and that turned out to be the problem.

Been there, done that.
I removed all 3rd party apps till there was nothing left but to hit the mirroring button in the drop down menu and this did not help

were you able to find out the solution to your problem? I am facing the same problem and have tried the solutions mentioned in this thread. It does not work for me . Any help is appreciated.

Samsung givith and takith away.
Samsung is becoming more like apple everyday with proprietary software. My older Samsung devices work on everything. The Note 8 and I would assume the same would be for the S8 and S8 Plus will only do true screen mirroring with Samsung devices. I remembered that my Blu-ray player which is Samsung is also Wireless and will do mirroring and it worked just fine. Then I tried it on a flat panel 2017 Samsung TV and again it worked just fine but go to any other brand or older TV and you have to use third-party software which does not do true screen mirroring. In your settings on any older phone you will have a setting for mirroring in the Advanced connections. But if you look in the settings for the Note 8 the only mirroring setting you find is for a USB connection to your car. Samsung is more and more making it impossible to connect to anything easily but their own devices.

But in my case I own a series 6 samsung led f6400 and still I am not able to connect. The connection happens for a moment and then the screen mirroring terminates. Am I missing any setting?

It works just fine with my note 8 and Samsung TV.

Same problem.
I had this exact same problem. The solution was stupidly simple. When I hit "smart view" all the devices show up. Tapping on the device I want does not work. I actually had to hold down on the device I wanted for a second, and it immediately connected.
It worked totally fine on FHD+ though, it must be a bug. Hold it on WQHD+.

Thank You!
Yes, that worked. Thank you. I wasn't sure exactly what you meant when you said you have to hold it down but it's long hold. If you long hold the icon on the phone when selecting the Samsung smart TV, then in my case I got a request for a validation code which appeared on my TV. It worked. I have the same problem with the Galaxy note 8, and the Galaxy S8. This is definitely a bug, because it actually said it was connected. But then it would time out and the Screen Mirroring on the TV would stop. So glad you came up with the solution. Thanks for sharing with us

If you send a video from notes 8 to the Smart Tv to you is it fluid? To me it jams and then it takes back.

This is the whole reason, scratch that, one of the big reasons (among so many) why the note 8 will be the last Samsung device that I purchase. I have a Galaxy S5 that screen mirrors with audio to any TV. I also have a Galaxy Grand Prime, which is a mid level device, rooted with oreo on it and it screen mirrors just fine.
This is now why I have just firmly decided why I'm gonna root this device and put oreo or pie on it, chalk the rest all up to experience and call it a day. Screw the Samsung software. The next device will be a one plus or Pixel or lastly maybe Motorola. Unbranded and boot loader unlockable. Never again will I deal with a company that wants to double their prices on devices in just two years till they are now $1000 and then eliminate so many features that the hardware is more than capable of thus making your device half as appealing as other flagship devices. Handcuff you and locking the boot loader up tight so you can't do what you want to do with your device you spent a $1000 on. That is all just discussing to me. Big business wanting you to pay more more astronomical dollars all the while wanting to control you and your device more and more. So long, and nice knowing you Samsung but I never really believed in or bought into your marketing and business model.

I actually like Samsung Electronics but I agree with you here. This is my last phone from Samsung because I don't like the fact that it's locked down like that.. What also pisses me off is the fact that Samsung is USING Android as their operating system and Android is OPEN SOURCE software and Samsung shouldn't be taking an open source software and then locking it down! That's like buying a car and then taking the name of it off and putting your own brand name on it and that's not right at all.

[Q] Advice please... Best tablet for Meeting room solution....

Ok heres the dilemma. - Please can you check my though process here......
Ultimately its a Galaxy Tab vs Nexus 10 question but before you all yawn, for the purpose of this comparison, lets ignore which tablet is better in every respect except sending the screen to a TV in the room.
I'm figuring out a solution for a company with 5 meeting rooms in new premises. They have all their content on Google Mail / Drive and want to present to customers or have internal meetings and look up mails / watch Youtube videos / have video conference meetings on Hangout / Skype. They want to 'upgrade' from a desktop PC linked to a wall mounted TV. They want to buy cheap LCD TVs. The rooms all have a wall mounted power socket and ethernet port and wifi in the room. All directors have Samsung Galaxy 3S phones and all staff are being encouraged to move to this phone.
[I started by buying and testing one of those mini-android HDMI sticks but there are loads of security issues. This is a non starter. The Apps administrator has banned these devices. I can detail the security issue in another post if anyone wants to know.]
I have settled on a tablet solution. Its portable, secure and cheap.
Here is the problem...
If I go with Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 then I get Allshare Cast. This means with a cheap dongle available now, I can retrofit a cheap TV and get pretty good screen share.
If I go with Nexus 10 I get Android 4.2 with multiple share, and Miracast but I am worried Miracast is gonna be like WiFi N where its not really available for another year or so. I cant find a dongle that is actually for sale and I saw a review on the Nexus 10 which said that Miracast is not on the device even though the OS support it.
I was wondering if I could get 'Allshare Cast' working on the Nexus as a stopgap until Miracast works?
Alternatively, I get the Galaxy tab now and then upgrade to Jellybean 4.2 in due course?
Last question... Will Samsung Galaxy 3S phone be able to send to Miracast screens via the Allshare Cast function. (will Miracast support All Share cast)?

This Galaxy Tab 10.1 (first gen) does not have Allshare Cast and will not be getting Jellybean. Need to ask your question in the right forum.

[Q] Can I mirror my Android phone or am I gonna have to switch to Apple?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 that I purchased last year. There's been a lot of talk (last fracking year) about Miracast, WiDi, and how great it will be to mirror my device. Here we are in May 2013, and the tech is still garbage or non-exstent. I'd appreciate it if someone could help me. Here's the scenario:
My family (like many of yours) is completely perplexed by the function of a TV remote's "Input" button. Once they have to change the input on the TV, all hell breaks loose and I end up having to "fix" everything by pressing the input button to get the TV to the right input again. My family currently owns 2 iPhones, an iPad, and an iPod. I built a Windows 7 Media Center PC with a 5.1 speaker system that we use as our cable receiver, 3D Blu-ray player, media streamer, music player, and AppleTV receiver. Since everything is built into that one box, no one has to change an input, and all is harmonious. The main focus is the AppleTV receiver feature, which is accomplished using a program called AirServer. It's great because anyone can click on the Airplay button on their iDevice and a window automatically pops up on the PC, maximizes, and mirrors the iDevice. No changing inputs. Great, right?
I, however, have a Galaxy Note 2, and the one feature I desperately want is garbage on this device: mirroring. I don't want to stream something through DLNA (because only a limited amount of files/formats/apps support it). I don't want another box sucking up power and requiring me to switch inputs on both my TV and speaker system. All I want is to mirror my device to my PC in the same manner that Airserver lets me mirror an iDevice on my PC. So far, this seems bleak and far-fetched. There are no PC software options to mirror my Android device onto a PC. Besides, even if I were to buy a dongle, the Samsung Allshare Cast dongle is quite possibly the most infuriating piece of crap I've ever used. It stutters, pixelates, and puts my audio/video so far out of synch that it's useless. On top of it all, my Wifi (for internet, on the Note 2) disconnects when using Miracast/WiDi. I tried the Netgear PTV3000, which is also a stuttering, unreliable mess of a device. I'm also not going to root my device. It's 2013, and I shouldn't have to sacrifice receiving OTA updates because Google dropped the ball.
So here's the question: is there a way to mirror my Android device on a PC without rooting or buying another box/dongle? I'd like to keep my Android phone, but I'm switching back to Apple if September rolls around and I'm still going through this. I'm not a fan of the company, but Airplay mirroring just works. No downloading 20 video players and 6 codec packs. No out-of-synch issues with audio. No dropped WiFi. No family members complaining that they "broke" the tv because it's on the wrong input. I want all that on my Android phone.
Thanks
Then I would just go back to apple. As this feature will always be manufacturer spicific so you will have to do it the way that OEM requires and alot of android things will never play well with anything apple. Mainly not Samsung.

Yup, it sure seems that way. Samsung stuff only seems to work with other Samsung products. My options are that crappy dongle they make or buy a $1500 TV just to mirror my phone. No thanks.
My biggest complaint about Apple now is the damn lightning connector. I get why they made the 30-pin dock connector when they did, but Micro USB has been around for a while and has the bandwidth to handle everything going in and out of that phone. Making another proprietary connector was just a huge slap in the face to consumers everywhere.

Issue screen mirroring to a Samsung Smart TV

I've been trying to get the screen mirroring function to work.
The phone detects the TV, and the TV says the phone is connected - but then the phone says something to the effect of 'starting screen mirroring' - it comes up with text that seems to indicate that the pairing has initialized, and a split second later you see a message saying screen sharing has ended on both the TV and the phone.
It does not actually display the screen for even a second before disconnecting.
Any ideas?
I'm on stock 4.2.2 at the moment.
Trying to pair with a Samsung F6800 Smart TV. (TV firmware is completely up to date).

well it can't be that. Locked bootloaders wont mirror a screen.
You using wifi direct to mirror? not going through a 3rd party screencast device?
Have you done it before?? I mean is youe TV Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Miracastâ„¢ ??

thats about as much help as I can offer. Can't test my device using mirror cast as its broken.
Its not the locked boot loader... I am running the 6806 and mirroring with my Samsung F8000 TV. I can mirror my phones different screens with not issues. However if I try and play a movie from Play movies, it is very choppy dropping frames. My understanding this has to do with the Bluetooth or something dropping out but not sure.
Otherwise I can mirror with no issues using stock Sony ROM on Android 4.3.

What firmware are you running? And could you explain how you got the two connected?
I think your issue with streaming might have to do with your router - I am able to stream movies fine - but have essentially the opposite issue whereby I can't seem to get the mirroring to work.
I'd really appreciate some insight.
Samsung Miracast devices (such as TV's and adapters) sadly only work with Samsung phones.
My ZU, nexus 5 and nexus 7 will not pair with my Samsung TV and Samsung BR DVD player (which has miracast).
You should try to get a generic Miracast adapter. PTV3000 works with the Sony ZU for me.

That can't be allowed, right? The miracast certified thing should prevent those market strats. Otherwise it should called samsung mirror or something.

Mine doesn't give me an actual error reason - it just waits a while and says 'Screen Mirroring ended' without actually connecting.
Although on the TV it says 'connected to Xperia Z Ultra' whilst on the phone it says 'preparing to mirror' - but eventually I get messages on both screens saying the mirroring has ended.
No idea why this is - I should also have thought that Miracast certified devices will communicate with one another no matter what.
I'm very annoyed by this - even after updating to the latest firmware on both devices I cannot get them to connect to one another.
But 'throwing' stuff works perfectly fine - even 1080p content will stream to my TV via my router without any skips whatsoever - incredibly frustrating.

I reckon it's reliant on drm keys so won't work with unlocked bootloader. You'd have to relock bootloader and restore ta partition before it would work.
Taken from Wikipedia: " The technology was promoted to work across devices, regardless of brand. Miracast devices negotiate settings for each connection, which simplifies the process for the users. In particular, it obviates having to worry about format orcodec*details.[14]*Miracast is "effectively a wireless*HDMI cable, copying everything from one screen to another using the H.264 codec and its own*digital rights management*(DRM) layer emulating the HDMI system". The Wi-Fi Alliance suggested that Miracast could also be used by a*set-top box*wanting to*streamcontent to a TV, or tablet."

Enough of Google for me.

I'm really pissed of with Google, it seems that their ways to stop us from using what they doesn't want is by killing what we use...
My Nexus 5X already died into the bootloop issue, and today I've just seen that the Nexus 6P is having the exact same issue, which they say as a faulty hardware (Really? 2 completely different brands, with the EXACT SAME ISSUE? You must to be kidding me..).
This is not the first time that Google is killing what we use.
I'm a user of Miracast technology, since marshmallow it wasn't present, but you could activate via a build.prop tweak if you are rooted, in nougat they introduced a bug (yes, intentionally), that the phone will crash If you this tweak and connect to the tv, forcing me to buy their Chromecast 2.
This is not the only thing, have you ever wondered why the hell it doesn't has QI charging? To make us to use their "Fast charging USB C solution..
The Nexus 6 has also had something similar with it's notification LED, which can be activated only If rooted..
Now I really don't know what to do, I'm thinking of downgrading to Marshmallow before my phone got into bootloop, and not having another paper weight on my desk.
The only thing i can assure is that my next phone will be an Galaxy S8, and not another Google Crap phone.

Now I really don't know what to do, I'm thinking of downgrading to Marshmallow before my phone got into bootloop, and not having another paper weight on my desk.
The only thing i can assure is that my next phone will be an Galaxy S8, and not another Google Crap phone.

So that's why Miracast no longer works. ?

I agree. It is getting ridiculous. All of the reasons we love the Nexus line are becoming blurry. Miracast is a huge one. Smart tv, Xbox One, and now I have to have a damn Chromecast as well. I'm starting to feel like Apple users must feel. Poor souls.
I don't understand. My Miracast works perfectly fine with Panasonic TVs and LG.

Are you on stock 7.1? Also did you enabled in build.prop and it worked?
My device won't work with my Samsung TV JS7200 or Windows 10 Miracast receiver.

I am on stock 7.0.1 (latest). I didn't change anything in build.prop. I just go to Settings -> Display -> Cast
I've read online that it works with older Miracast (first, second gen) TVs. For e.g. it works with Roku 3 but not 4.

Given that the 6P has a metal build and that no other metal phones(from the top of my head) have Qi charging, I would assume it was due to the the metal build. And in regards to saying that they are just trying to sell "Fast Charging USB C solution", wouldn't you think that they would generate more revenue from implementing a convenient way to charge a phone?
Based on your opinion and what you had said, it sounds like the S8 is the perfect device for you. It's so great to have a plethora of device choices!

Well, my dead Nexus 5X has a plastic body and Google removed QI Charger from it too, something I found really useful, which I was using since Nexus 4 and had to stop on the new ones..

Oh, didn't know that.
But I totally understand you.
Google played a "good guy" comparing to Apple for a few years now, and I really saw this coming. Basically they're just the same. Profit, profit, profit.
You want to cast? Buy a Chromecast.
I really wouldn't be surprised if their Project Fi gains success, and they decide to lock their future devices to their own network.
Nokia years ago was really something else, but it was in the way of the American capitalism so they had to remove it from their perfect market picture.

DeX mode on PC

Does the Tab S6 have the same ability as the Note 10? Specifically I am asking if you can plug it in to any PC and launch Dex and LoD. Has anyone tried this yet? I am not sure if the companion app has been released officially yet, but, if you have it would you mind trying?
Any and all information is welcome.
Thanks
Edit:
This is a future question.
Not working sadly. I hope they enable it
I can only agree
I've just found this out today too
Shame on Samsung for touting Dex as one of the S6's selling points but not fully allowing the service due to the USB drivers needing updating
This is killing me I would really need that option for working purposes. I have just tested and Dex is not working as shown for the Note series...

Mind expanding on that.
I hope that Samsung extends this DeX Desktop app to work with the Tab S6 too.
And, I would also like the ability to have multiple DeX desktops instead of just the one single DeX desktop on my Tab S6. Like for example, a simple swipe to the left in DeX mode and I have another blank DeX desktop that I can deposit whatever applications I choose to deposit on it.

Hi folks. I don't know if you are still on the lookout for Dex from the Tab S6 to your pc, laptop and e.t.c. From my standpoint, we still have to wait a lot for Samsung to enable this function for us. Right now it's a selling point for the Tab S7 and S7+. So I don't think this greedy lot will release it anytime soon. Anyways, I have been using the following software as alternatives for a while now, and the two are very good. Make your pick:
Github
AnLink
Besides if you happen to stumble across custom ROMs for the Tab S6 please let me know. Take care
