(Request) B&O Hi-FI Plus module MOD - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Hi guys, I recently purchased my European bootloader unlocked H850, and bought the HI-FI plus module at the same time. My major gripe with the module is that when my M50x are plugged into it, the module recognizes it as a normal audio device, thus operating in low impedance mode. I tried unplugging the cable from the headphone end and connecting it only with the device, but the best I could get out of this method is Aux mode, although the better than low impedance, it doesn't sounds quite as good as the high impedance mode provided when I connect the B & O module via USB.
The question lies in: Is there any method to perhaps change the impedance range of the "normal audio device" mode so that it can match that of the high impedance; or fooling the phone to recognize my headphones as high impedance.
P.S. I'm currently rooted on Android Nougat.
Thanks in advance.

For G5 + Hi-Fi Module does not work trick with mixer_path_tasha (and lge_model_mixer_paths_tasha), as on V10, V20, V30.
There are no ESS 9018 DAC records in the file mixer_path_tasha, as in other files in ETC folder. On our phone, the first time the module is connected, the driver (application "com.lge.HMManager" with "libSavitech_fwUpgrade.so" and "libsusb.so" libs) is downloaded via LG Friends. On PC after installing the drivers, the device has the same name. Savitech or SaviAudio is the company that created the driver.
Can anybody help us to force high imedance mode?

I have an Idea, maybe try to delete those files, since AOSP supports the HiFi Dac natively in high impedence by default.

The problem is to determine in which files the settings are located. Unfortunately I've never used AOSP firmware.

Honor 7 working with a DAC (Digital to Analog Converter)

Hi folks!
Recently I bought a Honor 7. It works great and you get great value for money.
I couple of days ago I read about using a USB OTG Cable for using a DAC to improve the sound quality (I think the built in sound is not good enough). I have Denon MM400 headphones which needs some power to sound great and the only solution to get great sound is to use a DAC.
This is what I tried:
1. Connect a USB OTG Cable to my Honor 7
2. Connect the DAC (in this case a Audioquest Dragonfly, newest version)
3. Open the app "USB Audio Player" (Demo version)
4. Play a track
As soon as I play a track the phone shuts down and restarts, meanwhile there is a strange sound coming from the USB Port of my phone.
I tried these steps a couple of times before I gave up....
My guess is that the phone does not support the power my DAC needs, but it could also be a problem with the App (USB Audio Player).
Do you guys have any suggestions? Is this a common issue or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks guys!
I found this, I hope it helps. I'd love to see USB OTG DAC on my Honor 7. I think you'd need to edit the file on a rooted phone.
How to enable USB audio policy
To enable USB audio, add an entry to the audio policy configuration file. This is typically located here:
device/oem/codename/audio_policy.conf
The pathname component "oem" should be replaced by the name of the OEM who manufactures the Android device, and "codename" should be replaced by the device code name.
An example entry is shown here:
Code:
audio_hw_modules {
...
usb {
outputs {
usb_accessory {
sampling_rates 44100
channel_masks AUDIO_CHANNEL_OUT_STEREO
formats AUDIO_FORMAT_PCM_16_BIT
devices AUDIO_DEVICE_OUT_USB_ACCESSORY
}
usb_device {
sampling_rates dynamic
channel_masks dynamic
formats dynamic
devices AUDIO_DEVICE_OUT_USB_DEVICE
}
}
inputs {
usb_device {
sampling_rates dynamic
channel_masks AUDIO_CHANNEL_IN_STEREO
formats AUDIO_FORMAT_PCM_16_BIT
devices AUDIO_DEVICE_IN_USB_DEVICE
}
}
}

Hi,
Finaly someone else with the same problem !
Same here with my ampli/DAC JDS Labs C5D... It's not the app but a bug with the Honor 7 according to the team of USB audio Player Pro. I had a couple of emails with their devlopper's team (very kind and dedicated btw, they refunded me after several attemps) but it seems to come from the Honor 7.
So it's seems to be a reccuring problem. It's was the with my Honor 6 !
I believe it wont work without a little messing in the build.prop or even the kernel. At least this was the modus operandi I´ve watched with other devices.
Why don´t you save yourself from the trouble and use a nice dedicated media player? You know you will get a nice quality bump, but on the other hand, you will need to carry a extra device.

Hi everyone! I've read somewhere that Honor 7 doesn't support OTG audio (even if it does support OTG for mass storage). It should depend on Honor/Huawei way to manage the usb output.
Maybe you could try this:
- go into the "secret" menu by typing in the dialer this code: *#*#2846579#*#*
- select: 1. Background settings
- select: 2. USB port settings
- try to change (maybe selecting Google mode)
I haven't tested (cause i haven't any DAC to test with) so i really don't know if it is gonna work or not.
If you'd decide to try, give us a feedback please
Cheers

Hi Nicoquag,
I did what you said but that didn't work... The phone restarts automatically and making a strange sound!
Tried it also with the new AudioQuest Dragonfly BLACK which has compability with phones now, but that doesn't work either...
I am a audiophile geek and I have bought expensive headphones!!! I am thinking of selling it and by an iPhone now...
Tried everything...
Just wanted to let you guys know...
Cheers!

Mmmm that's a pity!
Almost every Honor/Huawei device has problem dealing with otg audio.
Have you tried with other apps instead of USB audio player? For example Onkyo HF player or hiby music (they are both free and made for USB OTG playing).
Hello everyone!
Thank you everyone for your support. Nothing really worked so I bought myself a Fiio X1 for a good price today.
From now on I have a DAP that will do the job for me!
If you guys find a solution to the problem, don't hesitate to share that information with us!
Cheers!

Hello,
I confirm I got my FIIO Q1 working on my honor 7 with hiby music while it is not working with foobar2000. But I also installed Onkyo HF in the same time, and have tried many times with each software alternately before got it working with hiby music.

Honor 7 is not working with my car audio kenwood kmm u11.

Hello folks.
I bought this phone 3weeks ago and I can't use it with my kenwood kmm u11 car audio. When I connect my phone via usb to car audio, files are being read but sound is coming from the phone instead of car's speakers. Also I have tried it with some other car audios and it did not worked. My phone has B370 build and I could not find a solution for this situation. Please help me if anyone has a solution.
It can't work as a USB mass storage device as the radio doesn't have the right protocols.
When you connect it to a windows PC, it install drivers. A radio can't do that.
Sound only through BT or 3,5"mm jack.

I have an LG G2 and it works with usb connection. What is the difference? Honor 7 and LG G2 have Android 5.0.2. I can't get the point.

USB works like any other mass storage device. Might be compatible or not. The the device that's accessing the files plays and handles the output.
The car radio could have a protocol to control through USB the android music player. Check if H7's music player is working. There's also a similar protocol for iOS.
Finally, there's only 5 ways of getting audio out from Android, to other than built-in speaker:
1- 3,5" jack audio out (headphones but works with anything)
2- MHL, for compatible devices, but audio is automatically routed
3- HDMI out, audio automatically routed.
4- Bluetooth, audio automatically routed.
5- Wi-Fi cast, audio automatically routed.
You can use USB as an audio output, but you have to fiddle with the OS. And I'm not sure if it's possible with all devices.
@blast4620 some devices have inbuilt Mass Storage mode, but Honor 7 just have MTP protocol and no Mass Storage protocol.
MTP protocol requires some drivers to be installed on the device to which you are connecting your phone, so it can't work on your Kenwood Player.
Whereas Mass Storage mode doesn't require any drivers to be installed, it's just like Plug & Play(A USB Pen-Drive). So, your LG phone must have a Mass Storage mode, but Honor 7 doesn't have it.
I hope this helps.

trouble with a dac

hi guys
iv got myself a hifime dac so i could run my audio out of my usb on my ZU into a car stereo but im not getting audio thru the dac, i thought maybe it was the firmware so set about flashing a custom rom (which ive not done in a long time) managed to get the hybrid concept rom installed and tried again but with the same results
basically the power light on the dac lights up and the 3.5mm jack port lights up read but when i plug in either headphones or my home stereo no audio is coming out
am i missing something silly?
and i just plugged the dac into my s7 edge and it works just fine
s7 is on android 7.0
zu is on 5.1.1
there are two options you can play with in developer options.
Scroll down to "Media". Then there's "Use AwesomePlayer (deprecated) and "Disable USB audio routing"
You can also force media server to output to a specific speaker with this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.woodslink.android.wiredheadphoneroutingfix&hl
If output to usb isn't allowed in the free app. The paid app can be found at mobilism..schhh warez is not allowed here.
I found some sort of test tool: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.sobe.usbaudioroot
Help very appreciated but still no joy
I have tried so many varieties of settings within the developer options and the settings within that app! I have also tried this on a couple of roms
For a while I was stuck on resurrection rom with cynageon recovery but I have no got onto dirty unicorn rom running Android 7.1.1 but still no audio comes out the usb

OTG / Hi-Fi Plus on H850

Hello,
My question is quite specific, but I am currently running RR 5.8.4 (20170914) and I noticed that OTG has never worked for me (although it works when in TWRP)
I never minded so forgot about it, but I recently got hold of the Hi-Fi Plus cheaply only (£35) and wanted to try it out. As it turns out, it doesn't work and I was wondering whether;
Is this a kernel issue - can I flash an appropriate kernel to get OTG (and hopefully Hi-Fi plus support)
Or, is this just due to the Rom - should I flash a stock rom (e.g fulmics?)
Thanks!
*I have edited the Title as some of the information has changed based on my research, see my replies below*
Just as a follow up to this - I just flashed Fulmics and it still doens't work. I wonder if they only work on completely stock Rom. I will flash back to stock and update accordingly.
I also will try out OTG to see if that works.
OTG on Fulmics also doesn't work (if anyone is interested).
I hope I am doing something wrong here because it would be great to get this going

Can confirm the Hi-Fi module works on Fulmics, both internally and as an OTG device. If you're using it via OTG, I recommend USB Audio Player PRO. Their custom USB device stack works a lot better than Android's default USB audio device support. Arguably works better than using the Hi-Fi module connected directly to the phone via LG's own apps.
-edited to add: If you're using the Hi-Fi module via OTG or even connected to a PC, make sure you have headphones plugged in. For some reason, the device shuts off entirely and is not recognised unless this is the case.

Thanks. I am surprised by this - I went right back to stock (20K) and it still doesn't work for me (even with headphones plugged in). I wonder if there is something I have missed - I have no OTG support on any of the ROMs I have tried (Fulmics, RR and Stock (20K)
I thought the process would be easier - I expected to be able to listen to Spotify with the DAC - is this the case?
I have taken my phone completely back to stock, (H85020g_00_VMC_GB_OP_0703) and plugged in the Hi-Fi plus and it still doesnt work:
The "Friends" app detects the the Hi-Fi Plus
the 32 Bit DAC settings item is greyed out
I plugged in two different types of headphones
I am now at a bit of a loss as I still don't understand why OTG doesn't seem to be working either (obviously related), so the wider question is, why?
I tested out OTG on TWRP and it works, and I tested the cable I purchased on a Huawei P9 and it also works so I dont think it is the cable.
For reference, the OTG cable I have is this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01COOQIKU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Should I just return the phone and get a new one?

Does it play music through the Hi-Fi module at all when you plug in earphones? The stock ROM specific things (like the little Hi-Fi symbol in the notification bar) don't work with it attached as a USB device, it is just picked up as an Android USB audio device.
The cable might also be a factor (although yours looks like it should work); I've found the module to be picky with what will and won't work. Attempting to use the short USB C -> micro USB cable included with the Hi-Fi module (with a micro USB -> USB C OTG adapter, of course) for instance did not work for me.

Hi,
No it doesn't play music through the module, it just plays out of the speaker. If I put the headphones in the top of the phone, then it plays from there, but not from the bottom.
I think there is some issue with OTG, rather than the Hi-Fi module as it works fine when I plug it into a computer. I don't really know how I can diagnose it further. I have verified that OTG works in TWRP (and with other devices) so the cable seems fine. I'm not really sure how to proceed from there.
Thanks,
Charlie
The same thing happens to me in my g5 h860n. I have tried different firmware versions and the problem remains the same. Does anyone have an idea that I should try?
Hello! I have the same trouble. Lg G5 H850 GBR, V20v-EUR-XX, unlocked bootloader, root Magisk, stock ROM and kernel. HiFi plus recognized when direct plug into the phone (not tested with OTG-cable) , but, as was writed by Chalima, it doesn't play music through the module, it just plays out of the speaker. If I put the headphones in the top of the phone, then it plays from there, but not from the bottom. Does anybody know, this trouble of hardware, software, or a HiFi plus?
You probably checked this, but I say it anyway:
Developer options/media/USB audio routing ??
Don't disable this.....
Yes, I try with enable and disable this - not working. Also in prog Device Info HW in USB tab I see nothing.

[Guide] Enabling AptX/HD support

Hello guys, I have done small research.
Our s5e device is based off Snapdragon 670 which is part of multiple interesting devices like Pixel phones. Qualcomm CPUs are including support for other codecs (aside of classic SBC) since few years back, however, to get them working out of the box the device manufacturer have to pay license fees. Since s5e is low cost niche device, Samsung didn't bother to do so, however device is completely capable to support it on hardware level. Essentially, we only need few libraries installed, and if you have necessary root permissions, its possible with classic magisk module.
Such magisk module can be found here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/module-aptx-hd-legacy-devices-armv7-t4081693
I have validated it on LineageOS 17.1 via Bluetooth logcat and it does report AptX HD when connected to AptX HD supported headphones
Regular AptX also possible? I have a normal AptX BT Speaker, thanks!

For sure!

Simplest way to confirm on LOS 17.1 is to flash module, open Bluetooth settings of device that you paired to. It should say what codec it will use.
