New PL6 Update - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S7 Guides, News, & Discussio

I'm guessing this isn't the nougat update, since it doesn't say it is. I'll try it out when I get home. I'll post my experiences.

Of course it's not Nougat. I tried this PL6 and can't notice any changes. Nougat can't arrive before March on Sprint S7.

Right off the bad, battery life is way better. In the morning, I use my phone heavily. Usually when I leave for work, I hit 80%. Today it only went down to 90%. At this moment, when I take my break, I would usually be at 40%. Right now I'm at 64% same usuage, nothing has changed.
EDIT: It's 7:52, been 12 hrs and i'm on 45%. i dont know what they did, but holy hell battery life has improved so much. GET THIS UPDATE.

Yes i installed this update too and battery life is improved waiting for Nougat update

Actually battery life is better. I used to get only about 3 hours of screen on time. Now I can reach 4 hours and still have some juice left.

Pleased with battery life!

Not rooted yet, but when I am it will be even better.
1.79% discharge per hour overnight with no use. That's almost as good as my S3 was getting, rooted, with lots of bloatware disabled. Can't wait to see what this will do once it's rooted and bloat free!

My S3 was stock rooted and I was getting .89% discharge per hour overnight. What does yours get with no use (sitting overnight)?

I was always rom'd with CM, and it never made it to Night, like I said I got 4 Hours TOPS.
Truthfully, Touchwiz makes me want to puke.
I got my S4 yesterday, took it home and rooted it and charged it to 100%. Took it off, put about 2 straight hrs of screen time on it setting it up, messing around, benchmarking it, etc and was only down to 74%. That would mean almost 8 hours of screen time and heavy usage, which is pretty damn impressive for such a powerful device with such a great screen.

that's crazy!
pre-root, i got 14 hours standby with just barely over 5 hours of screen time.
rooted it last night. removed bloat. let's see how well this baby holds up today.
First battery cycle after debloat, I got 6hrs screen time over a 16 hour discharge. Love it.

Today is my first day with the phone. It was 100% at 11pm yesterday and it dropped to 95% by 5:30am....not bad. Been using it all day at work reading emails, reading reddit, surfing some websites and it's down to 44% (it's 4pm now). It's had about 3 hours screen time too.
So far the battery life is much better than my old galaxy nexus.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that this is with everything stock. Air view and gestures are turned on as well as power saving mode.

This is a welcome change from the Galaxy Nexus. I'm usually charging it by 3pm on a workday. it's almost 5 and i have 35% left (that's after multiple reboots during the rooting process too)
I am at 1d 3h 8m 42s and 22% remaining.
3hrs of screen time.
45min of voice calls.
I have used it to take some pictures, check email, read some articles, and do facebook. I am rooted and have all bloat frozen.
I am very pleased with this battery life and cannot wait for AOSP roms.
I even made my TWRP backup in this charge.
This battery life is insane! I love this phone!
0.94% discharge per hour overnight after root. As good as my S3 now!
Here is a light usage, fully stock not rooted or anything. I have the CPU battery saver on because i notice like 0 performance difference. texted a bit, ebayed, facebooked and a couple other things mostly wifi, bluetooth and location services are on.
I was more pleased with the charger than anything, half hour adds like 30 to 40 percent last time I checked, which is awesome for how big the battery is in comparison with the s3, only drawback is that it doesn't charge very quickly on any charger but the one that comes with it and my car charger. So at work I don't even bother plugging in.
I couldn't stand how laggy my S4 was, so I rooted it and removed the bloatware ( and my God, was there a lot) and now, not only is it WAY snappier, but the battery life is unreal.
I am very pleased with battery life

Stock battery life is terrible

Wow, just got my G2 on Friday night, and yesterday I was sitting around the house on WiFi all day, playing with it, I got maybe 12 hours out of it, before it was down in the teens.
Last night I charged it fully, woke up, unplugged the phone 100% battery, now 2 hours later it's down to 89%, and all I did was surf XDA and some websites for maybe 20 minutes all on WiFi.
I need to root this thing, and install CleanROM, and debloat this beast, because with a 3,000mAh battery and Snapdragon 800, I expect way way better battery life.. I am looking for Note 2 battery life, that thing could go 36 hours without sneezing.
Is it the ton of bloatware on the phone from ATT + LG killing the battery ? I am shocked at how much bloat this phone has, it's over the top with bull**** apps I never want on here, pretty ridiculous.
If you had taken the 2 minutes it took for you to write up this rant and look for the battery thread you would have seen the G2 has amazing battery life. You are obviously doing something wrong.
Give it some time to settle before deciding anything. Mine actually took three-four days and some reboots before it calmed down, and now I have about twice the battery stamina compared to HTC One (which I threw in the dumpster btw) .
Could be hardware issues. I had my G2 for a week now, and I tell you what the battery is amazing. I can easily get 4-5 hours of screen on time with 24+ hours battery life, and that's with stock. all sync (fb, whatsapp, twitter) with a few tweaks. I am coming from Nexus 4 and very impressed because with G2 I literally have a double battery life.
And also G2 is very fast charging. Only take 2 hours to charge from 10 - 100%. That's amazing!
My battery is getting better every day. Yesterday I got 14 hours of use, 5 1/2 hours screen on time, and an estimated 2 1/2 hours to go at 15%. Definitely the best so far. With more tweaks, I'm wondering how much I can get today.

I had some bad battery life initially. I found the biggest culprit of battery drain in my case was CarrierIQ. After rooting the phone and disabling the CIQ, my battery life has been great. It goes 24+ hours easily and it seems it can run 40+ hours though I haven't tried it.

same thing happened to me. First few days it was great then battery sucked. Disabled the CIQ with system tuner and I get 2 days and 5 hours screen time and still usually have 30% left
The battery life is love and hate on this phone for me. The love part is the battery life on this phone is great. The hate part is you have to turn off a lot of things to get that great battery life.
I've never had to turn this many things off to get good battery life on any other phones that I've had. I have to completely turn off anything location related which is a big bummer for me. I always like to have a clock/weather widget on my home screen but it never updates with all of the stuff that I have to turn off.
It's one of the few reasons why I'm moving to a Note 3. But when you heavily tweak the system, you can get fantastic battery life out of this phone. Good luck!

if you only turn off the google apps location settings and keep the app location settings on you should still see good battery. I use the stock weather clock widget and it updates just fine with those settings

[OFF TOPIC]
yet another topic's title that would detract would be buyers.
This phone has the best battery life of any phone I have ever had, stock. Even better than the Note series. Clearly user error
Battery life issues are so variable between two use scenarios it's like comparing apples and oranges. As others have said, battery life is pretty damn amazing for this phone.
Post some results from GSam battery monitor or wake lock detector to help you sort it all out.

I am still running stock, not rooted or ROM'd yet. Right now I am at 8h 29m total usage off a 100% charge this morning. Current battery life is already down to 35%, and only 2h 49m On Screen Time, and I have been on WiFi all day. I have GPS off, sync off, no e-mail or Facebook stuff installed yet.
Might as well give you a fast screen shot of mine
People with great battery life vs those with poor. Do you think its mainly settings and a good ROM or root with bloat deleted ?
Or is it hardware related ? Bad phones from factory shipping with damaged batteries or hardware ?
Sent from my LG-D800 using xda app-developers app
Battery so poor, I might return my G2 for a Galaxy S4 instead, for the removable battery.
Just shocked I'm barely getting any better battery life than my Nexus 4, which got 4h On Screen time, and over all only 12 hours usage
Do I have a bad phone ? Or just stock is screwed up and I should factory reset, or better yet, root and install CleanROM ?

[Q] Help:Battery Drop after updated to .402?

So last night i plugged in my z2 to my laptop and download the update 402 via sony pc companion. I left it overnight and this morning when it finished updated, i switched on the phone it was at 99%.
After a few mins i look back, it dropped to 74%!
Has anyone experiencing the same issue? is this normal? is this update bad for the battery?
anyway i did a factory reset, it was still new anyway so not much things on it yet.
ps, i did not lose my X-reality.Its still there
I feel the new Rom takes a bit time to settle.Give it a day or so and then try to troubleshoot.
Sent From My Sony Xperia Z2 D6502 White
Before the update, i got ~6.2 hours SOT per charge.
Now only 4-5 hours.
I'm vastly disappoint son.
Actually one of the things I noticed early on was the biggest battery consumption compared to .55 and .69! I have just remove the device from the charger and with a bit of use, then it goes to 97%!
This is really scaring me! In FW .55 and .69 was very time to see the percentage going down!
See what its like after a weeks use and the battery is properly calibrated.
I bet you will be seeing similar results to the earlier firmware

There is that right?
There is that possibility?
Why older versions did not have this time?
thanks guys for your input. Yeah i think its too early to tell on the battery consumption yet. I will observe it for a week or two and tell again
Most likely when you flash the update, the battery stats reset with other parameters, let it settle for few charges and see if it calibrates.
And check that your phone can enter Deep Sleep (CPU Spy from Play Store or similar). Could be that the update screwed that up.

It would be good to let my battery run out completely and then charge 100% or is not recommended to do this? I know that this type of technology can not do this, but only in this case!
EDIT:
Yesterday I was using the phone and noticed that when the battery reached 60% it took longer to get down the percentage! So I was using the device and the percentage reached 29%, so I put it to charge all night. This morning I noticed a significant improvement, so much that I am using lot and is still at 97%! What leads me to believe that what user said above is true!

It's always like that, any phones after install new ROM(custom or official), it will take couple cycles of recharge to settle down the battery.
Well after 2 days I would say that this firmware drains battery much faster I've gone back to previous firmware version and getting much better battery results so I'll stick with this for now I think

Battery life is terrible

Hi everyone, hope you're having a good day!
Anyways, I bought a Verizon V10 for Christmas this year, and the battery life was amazing til I updated to marshmallow. I used to get around 5 hours SoT, but after marshmallow it's around 3 and a half if I'm lucky. I've disable location services, turned off Bluetooth and NFC, made sure that I didn't have extra apps running in the background, but nothing seems to help
I did a factory reset after upgrading to MM, so now I get the same endurance as on lollipop.

Thats normal i went through the same scenario, during the update the battery meter was reset so its in learning mode allow a week or two.. Now im getting 5+hours sot. So be patient

This issue seems to be a common problem with the update factory wipe seems to resolve it.

my battery life is also terrible. it wasnt so bad right after update but now its terrible. not really interested in a factory wipe but might have to resort to it.
UPDATE: So I finally got around to factory reset which reduced my SoT to about an hour and a half. I'm not sure what to do. I downloaded GSMoniter and it showed that the Android OS was using around 50% of the battery?

I didnt do any factory reset and battery life improved a bit with marshmallow :good:
You can always look into a battery pack for the phone (look on amazon), which can provide double the life. That's what I did and the phone works good, I can get 2 days out of it with the zerolemon battery pack.

Upgrade via OTA to OREO terrible draining battery!!!

Hy everyoneI've upgraded to Oreo since just two days via OTA my Sony X (F5121), it turns on quickly compared to Nougat, but I encounter a serious problem of draining battery , I have already checked all the apps with background activities and optimized start of the various apps, but nothing changes, still remains the problem!
Some advice? To give you an idea after just two hours from power on, it drops by 40% !!! while with Nougat it lasted me two days on, and with my soft use sometimes even three days before charging...
Thanks in advance
1. Ota on sony usually ends up haivng upgrade with huge batter drain (personal xperience)
2. Oreo on x is not optimized, used for 2-3 days and now am i back to 7.1.1
today new update 34.4.a.2.19 release ,
flash it clean! Wipe everything after taking backup
Today everything seems to be back to normal, percentage of the battery is now at 82% from early this morning that I turned it on.
The update you said I do not have it yet, it will come. I currently have version 34.4.A.0.364
I hope that everything has been fixed, this weekend was an absurd thing, they had already happened with the previous Nexus 5 periods of a few days of anomalous draining, perhaps due to some service below that drained, but so visibly absurd.
Thank you
This is odd. My battery life was, just like yours, horrific but it got a bit better later. I'll try the updated now.
This morning 109MB software update that brought the version to 34.4.A.2.19 with security patch 01 February 2018
Draining battery has returned punctually unfortunately, now battery level is 40%.......in the evening I don't arrive with this trend, I'll have to recharge in the afternoon.
Yesterday instead everything seemed come back to normal, arrived in the evening at home with 70% of charge.
Let's see when it will return to normal ...
Let it settle 1-3 days and report back.
The situation seems come back normal finally, since yesterday, I am currently at 50% charge (yesterday morning was at 100% just loaded).
I notice that the notification LED is slower in flashing, with Nougat instead it was regular, in addition to the app gmail that always syncs and appears in the upper left icon, even this I had not noticed before with Nougat.
Volte
Since the Oreo update I have to charge the battery more than one time a day. I start in the morning with a full charged battery and very often, I have to charge again already in the afternoon. I am using my phone a lot, but I did that already with Nougat. With the Nougat version, I had always still about 20% at the late evening. Based on the service menu the battery is not damaged and based on the App AccuBattery: 95% healthy.
The installed version is 34.4.A.2.50
I am not sure, if I should go back to Nougat (without having the security updates) or if I should try a custom rom.
As it is now, it is very frustrating.......
Horrible battery oreo rom i have charge 2 time
Inviato dal mio F5121 utilizzando Tapatalk
Last Thursday I did a factory reset. I was hoping this would change something. Unfortunately not. Still just one day with a full charged battery. So I think I will go back to Nougat. I wonder if this is a common issue with the device running Oreo or if only a few devices affected by that.
Now I'm back on the latest Nougat stock rom.
Battery life time is back to normal, about two days.
For me it is unbelievable that Sony is offering an update which has such an impact to the battery.
