[Q] Dropbox, Truecrypt & EDS Lite

I am an IT Consultant and I like to keep my client network documentation on my View but that also leaves a gaping security hole because Android lacks real security. Before I got the view, I used Dropbox and Truecrypt to keep a container in sync between my main computer and my traveling notebook and a thumbdrive so that I always have access to these documents. Up until last night, I was unable to access a TrueCrypt container within Android, when I found EDS Lite which purports to be able to open the file.
So I installed Dropbox and EDS Lite but I am unable to figure out how to get Dropbox to sync the container to the View and then where to find the container using EDS Lite. I have tried google to no avail as I cannot find a dropbox folder. Anyone want to give me a heads up as to what I am missing?
Easy.
Use Cheetah Sync for Files/Folders
or
FolderSync
Thanks!
Nice find. Thanks for the response. These might just be the droids I am looking for...
you can find the synced files (mark favorite on dropbox first) on sd folder android/data/com.dropbox.android/yourfiles. then add container in EDS.
There's also called cryptonite. Here's the link about truecrypt porting
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=872297&page=7
Yeah, maybe easier with folder sync anyway...
TrueCrypt
I like the idea of truecrypt volumes on the device, as this allows for them to automatically 'lock' the volume when the device is locked and to not unlock it even if the device is unlocked and to require the pass phrase to unlock it. Everyone should be this paranoid about the security of their devices especially in wake of the court decision that a simple traffic stop is enough to allow a police officer to activate your phone and look through it. Even if no citation or charges are issued and consent is not needed. They cannot force you to unlock it or to give them the pin / password / pattern to unlock it. There are dozens of new laws enacted each year and there is always the chance you are awry of some law that could land you potential jail time. You never know what could turn up in the background of a picture on your phone that The facial recognition is a joke as it can be activated by holding the phone in front of someone's face. You should always refuse a search of your person or vehicle and you should always exercise your right to an attorney and exercise your 5th amendment rights. I really want a fingerprint reader on my phone like I have had on my notebooks for a decade.

Catch notes is going bye bye

So catch is being discontinued.. I need a legit solid comparable application, keep sometimes doesn't save photos.
Any personal experiences with evernote or spring pad?
I mainly use it to save photos I find on fb or Internet.
Thanks!

I am in a similar dilemma.
I don't like evernote, mainly because they are way too expensive (about 5$ a month is unreasonable in my opinion).
Evernote does not have a true offline option in the free version!
Here are the features that a good note app/service should have (catch notes had all these options):
Web interface and backup/synch (dropbox and web storage services do not count)
Offline editing and full access
Search everything (preferably as you type)
Categories/tags
Password options (preferred)
Reasonable export options is a must so you are not locked in to the app.
No monthly fees for above service (onetime fee only, or atleast a more reasonable month fee than 5$/month)
I looked briefly at the following apps/services and those are the issues I found which do not match my needs:
ColorNote: no web interface
MobisleNotes: web interface without search, no import/export option
Inkpad/notepad: no import/export option on web interface
Note Everything: no sync or export function
I figured I use catch regardless, and just use it for its internal storage options just sucks there aren't any real comparable services.

i have 3000+ notes and im looking at simplenote as a host, syncing with NValt on desktop, and there are a few android clients.
evernote is very reliable but too heavy. also i dont like that everything must have a title, and i you have to pay to store everything local. most of my notes are short and plaintext anyway.
however im having a lot of trouble importing them to simplenote. they have a tool but its super finicky and inconsistent. i think it will be easier to hack the notes into a client db, and then sync them up to simplenote. however this too is proving difficult because i want to keep the create and modify dates intact as well as the tags.
please let me know if anyone finds a soln.
in the meantime, id like to find the datafile on my phone. at the directory above i have hidden files turned on, but still see only media in ./media and one zero byte file in ./cache. where is the text data?
No luck yet

It appears the support pages are still up, abet slow at loading

I can't see my notes in Global Search on Android
Last Updated: Apr 16, 2013 12:25PM PDT
We have made a decision to not allow for a Global Search based on security reasons. With the option to set a passcode on your notes, we feel that Global Search would navigate around this and violate the notes security.
For example: If you have a passcode set on your notes, yet we allowed for Global Search, any term you search for may return a result, thereby indicating that the searched for text is part of a note's content.

Im currently looking for a way around this as im trying to use dropbox (storage) and dropsync (to sync particular folders)
If this fails it appears ill have to learn how to create apps and create my own with the Catch API
Failing that decompiling and rebuilding it to my specs is prob the final method
lets hope it doesent come to that
As you can see I haven't been converted to the dark side of other apps yet
Me too. I'm still using catch but locally.

Did anyone actually get an email regarding this shutdown? I had a bunch of notes stored in AK notepad which are basically lost forever, and I don't have any emails from catch.com notifying me of the termination - I'm just finding out today.
Maybe they ended up in my spam :/

[MOD][XPOSED][4.1+] GoogleOfflineVoice - Force offline voice recognition/typing

Introduction
The voice recognition API does not allow apps to choose whether they want to use offline voice recognition or not. There's no setting for the user either. Instead, if there's an internet connection, it'll always use the online services.
This module allows you to force offline voice recognition/typing. This is useful if you're using a slow connection, if you're connected to a local network (without internet access,) etc.
What does this module do?
This module can force offline voice recognition for apps that use Google Voice. It'll work if the app uses one of the following:
Voice typing (used by keyboards, e.g. SwiftKey)
Voice recognition (for apps that use RecognizerIntent such as utter!)
It does so by setting a variable that indicates whether a network connection is available or not to false.
Voice commands inside the Google Search app aren't affected. Note that if offline voice recognition doesn't work for you in the first place, this module won't fix that.
Requirements:
Xposed Framework.
Broadcasts:
You can toggle some settings from e.g. Tasker using broadcasts. Just use these action names:
com.germainz.googleofflinevoice.enable - Enables the module.
com.germainz.googleofflinevoice.disable - Disables the module.
com.germainz.googleofflinevoice.enable_voice_ime - Enables the module for voice typing.
com.germainz.googleofflinevoice.disable_voice_ime - Disables the module for voice typing.
Example from the shell:
Code:
am broadcast -a "com.germainz.googleofflinevoice.disable"
Source code:
https://github.com/GermainZ/GoogleOfflineVoice
Download:
http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.germainz.googleofflinevoice
Changelog:
Code:
[B]1.2.1:[/B] The widget now uses images to indicate the module's state. This should fix text getting cut off on some devices.
[B]1.2:[/B] Fix for the latest Google Search. Revamped blacklist. Added a simple widget to toggle module status (useful to quickly enable/disable GoogleOfflineVoice from e.g. your home screen).
[B]1.1:[/B]
The voice typing setting wasn't working correctly (because of a typo - offline voice typing was never forced.) Also, there was another typo in strings.xml, as a reboot is actually *not* required for the settings to apply.
[B]1.0:[/B] Initial release.
Thanks:
rovo89 for the Xposed Framework.

I think the title and description are extremely clear.
Anyway, check this.
EDIT: actually, I don't understand what you want. Regardless, it doesn't seem related to what this mod does so no.
I don't know if I understand this clearly - this will able me to use Google Now voice recognition and Swiftkey voice typing when there's no data connection? But I'll still be able to use it when data is on?

No. On Jelly Bean and higher, you can already use offline voice recognition/typing. That only happens when you're not connected at all, though. You can't force it if you're using a slow connection or if you're connected to a WiFi that's local (no internet access.) This module allows you to do that. I personally use it for SwiftKey and utter! because I find online recognition is too slow - at least with my internet connection.
Good app, was looking for something like this since long.
sent from public phone using coins.
Tried it out anyway. Off-line recognition CAN work on Armv6--had it happen once, just once. Do not know how I got there but the armv7 code stands in the way. So maybe this module could bypass it.
I actually have two Google choices for recognition, one for Google Search (offline) and one for older Voice Search (online). Vlingo also exposes its engine as another working choice. I wish Nuance (they own it now) would expose there Dragon engine. Unfortunately, most apps no longer respect this choice. In fact, only Jeannie works now with the online recognition choice. The voice assistant does not work over KitKat Google Search and launcher.
So I enabled this module. Really did not change much. Jeannie still worked, seemed quicker but very subjective--I assume was still going online. Google Search did not FC but did not accept voice. Next browser's voice input pretended to work, as before. No results. Voice typing also pretended, no results. Dragon's (using Swype) works very well (online).
BTW, the linked kludge is for dictation, using an ICS modded Google Search to somehow retrieve a language file. Did not work for me but I have the file, manually symlinked to its presumably proper place. The poster does not use Google Search, only dictation.

This module can force offline voice recognition, by changing the following, and only for apps that use Google Voice:
Voice typing (used by keyboards, e.g. SwiftKey)
Voice recognition (for apps that use RecognizerIntent such as utter!)
You're unlikely to notice a big difference unless you're using a slow connection or are connected to a WiFi network without an internet connection.
Voice commands through Google Search aren't affected, so your "did not accept voice" isn't related to this module. As I've said, this only affects Google Voice - Dragon and other engines will still behave as before.
If offline voice recognition doesn't work for you in the first place, this module won't fix that.
Can someone coment if this would have significant savings on bandwidth, for people who are trying to keep it under a couple hundred meg cap? For a user who uses heavy dictation.
Update:

Also, there was another typo in strings.xml, as a reboot is actually *not* required for the settings to apply.
Sorry

It depends. Offline voice recognition isn't great for dictation unless you have a perfect accent and there's no background noise at all. You'll get unusable results otherwise.
Assuming it works perfectly, though, you'll save quite a lot, yes. Of course, it depends on how much you use it. But as I've said, offline dictation probably won't give you acceptable results, so you'll have to Try It And See™ and decide for yourself (also note that it wasn't working properly till this update.)

Maybe, if it uses Google voice recognition. Try It And See™.
PS. I'm not sure what you mean be "I can't use voice recognition" - if it's failing even with an Internet connection them your problem is elsewhere.
Well @GermainZ, because I was using Google Keyboard too and nothing happens. To be sure, voice recognition works fine with an internet connection.

Voice typing != voice recognition. Google Keyboard should use voice typing, so make sure that setting is enabled. Read the OP for more info.

[Q] How to watch a periodically shot image on other PC/phone via Internet (no local

There are a lot of webcam apps for Android. Unfortunately most work only in a local WIFI network, real streaming of the android cam over internet seems rather tricky, but not impossible [http://www.androidhive.info/2014/06/android-streaming-live-camera-video-to-web-page/].
I'm just interested to see a periodic image of a lab device (updated every 30-60 sec). Options like Google Hangout video chat or Skype video chat with two accounts would work, but the video quality is quite poor for this realtime solution, some images with adjustable resolution made periodically would be better and save battery (this app might resolve this problem [https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nkahoang.screenstandby])
Teamviewer Quick Support looks nice, remote control & view via PC of your android device, so I would just need an app that makes periodically an image:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Nishant.Singh.DroidTimelapse
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.dinglisch.android.taskerm
But is there an app that does this all in a more easy manner? Without starting several apps and hacks? Just making an image every 30-60 seconds and send it to imageshare service and update the browser tab on PC every 30-60 seconds. But the URL therefore should not change. Or giving the the android phone a IP via dyndns and run somekind of FTP server on it, where the image gets replaced on and on.
I'm not sure what the easiest and most reliable option is, anybody has a tip?
I'm root and on 4.2.2 (Xperia Z)

Question Lightroom Free Trial for Expert RAW

I have tried several times to set up the free 60-day trial for Lightroom Premium from my S23Ultra (the only way, it seems, to be able to use Expert RAW) and it will not go through ('Galaxy Store cannot complete purchase' message). The free trial is the only option, as going straight to the £3.79/month option is not clickable. All the credit card details are confirmed as correct, etc. Is the trial no longer working/supported? If not, how else can I use Expert RAW, please, as it doesn't have an export function to the phone's gallery, etc., and LR is the only option presented to use it?
you can use Google Snapseed (it is free) for editing photos on the phone, or just edit them on PC using something like RawTherapee or Darktable (both are free), no need to pay for Adobe products. however you do not need to subscibe to lightroom premium to use it, basic light and color adjustment controls are available for free. and if you are happy with the default heavy pocessing expert raw applies automatically, you do not need to edit photos at all (but that kinda defies the general purpose of shooting raw...)
Unfortunately the RAW files from the phone are DNG format and my computer (Mac Book Pro) doesn't recognise that format. Therefore I have to edit them on the phone somehow and convert them to PNG or JPG before copying them to the MBP. I tried Snapseed earlier and it does work but it's somewhat limited. Better than nothing though. Thanks.
you can use both darktable (https://www.darktable.org/install/) or rawtherapee (https://rawtherapee.com/downloads/) to edit them on mac, both programs are multi-platrofm and support macOS
but as I said, on the phone you can use Snapseed (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.niksoftware.snapseed) or do basic editing on lightroom even without premium features and export image as jpeg
I may be misunderstanding, but when you say "(the only way, it seems, to be able to use Expert RAW)", I'd just like to point out that I've been able to use Expert RAW without paying for the Lightroom app. I did install it (to play around), so I'm not sure if it needs to be installed for Expert RAW to work, but paying for it is not a "requirement" to use Expert RAW.
But of course, I did read that you want to modify the images, so if the free is not good enough, it seems @Daekin gave some good examples/options . I just wanted to point out for anyone else that to use Expert RAW the paid version of Lightroom is not required.

I meant that, as far as I could see, the only link to an editing option on the Expert RAW screen is the Lr one. It may be that others can be used but they weren't being presented to me on the Expert RAW screen - at the foot of the screen there are just three option icons - Lr, share and bin. I couldn't even get the free 60-day trial to purchase, even though my credit card details had been verified and accepted, the purchase (actually a free trial) would not go through, with several attempts. Very odd.

Gotcha.
Yeah all I see are those three icons as well. But that is odd that it wouldn't go through to start the trial...I wonder if it is just a temporary bug.
I just saw an article about this.
An issue with a top Galaxy S23 Ultra camera feature has been fixed | Digital Trends
If you tried to subscribe to Adobe Lightroom Premium on your Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, but couldn't, Adobe has fixed the issue. Here's what was going on.
www.digitaltrends.com
well...in the case that Lightroom first run wizard when registering a new account has a bug, just go to adobe website and create a new account there. I have opened lightroom and since I logged in into existing account, the premium subscription was not offered for me as part of signin process, I can click on premium features and then I am greeted with the trial subscription. so to bypass registration, sign in using existing adobe account and do not create one from whithin lightroom app
about that icon..well, it is result of samsung - adobe partnership, which promotes lightroom as default editing app. however you can use any other app without problems, just it will be 2 clicks instead of one to open a taken photo there
