[ROM][6.0.1][AOSP] Slim6 for Samsung Galaxy J5 (2015) - Samsung Galaxy J5 (2015) ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries

ABANDONED!
The development has been abandoned because:
1) I still have J5, but i dont use it anymore since i own Huawei Nova.
2) I dont really want to keep my PC on for 4-5 hours to build a ROM in which people are not really interested considering that they are crazy about Nougat.
3) When ive built RR and Slim for first times, i was running into errors regarding the ROM as the development for LP and MM for those has stopped. I havent wrote the errors and solutions and i would need to spend time again to find those if i wouldnt remember them.
The ROM is stable and is running fine, but make sure to check the bugs list in post #2.
You can still see the "normal thread" and the download links. Just "click to show content" below.

SlimRoms is a custom android operating system. Our main goal is to offer users a slimmed down yet feature rich alternative to other android operating systems.
The entire SlimTeam work together to bring you this tailor-made beauty straight from Android Open Source Project (AOSP) source code.
All of the sources can be publicly viewed through GitHub and you can stop by our public Gerrit to submit patches of any type.
Slim6 is the project name for SlimRoms based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and offers the following original features:
Slim Navbar & Hardware key rebinding
Single tap action, long press action, double tap action!-We’ve got you covered.
Slim Actions & Chamber of secrets
Customise your device to the fullest -You’re a wizard!
Light / Dark theme -Settings > Display
SlimRecents
A Faster alternative to stock recents -Your device, your choice.
SlimLauncher
An Open source, feature filled launcher! -Make yourself at home
Status bar customisations
Clock and Date? Battery? -More fun than you can shake a stick at.
NOTES
1) Adaptive Brightness doesnt work since J5 doesnt have the needed sensor.
2) The DPI is set smaller by default. However, you can change that in Settings > Display.
3) Samsung Doze is not included yet. I didnt include it because i have encountered some build errors. I might include it in future.
4) To enable SystemUI Tuner, go to Notification Drawer and keep the finger on the settings icon for some seconds until you will be notified that it got enabled. Then you can find it in Settings > SystemUI Tuner.
5) Hardware button rebinding feature is not included! I have tried it to include it according to the commit from Slim github, but the options still didnt appear in Settings.

@#Henkate, you da real MVP, great work
Just a little question, is there any plans for the other variants (j500h in particular ?) ?
To build this ROM do you need @Nick Verse cm13 sources ?

Great! I downgraded to 5.1.1 for this, just waiting for the J500F release. Good job man.

Great job bro with the new ROM , but I was confused why we need android 5.1 to flash this ROM based on android 6?? Or U used 5.1 bootloader instead of 6. Also whats the advantage of sticking with 5.1 bootloader over 6? CM 13 also needs 5.1 to be flashed.. I am just confused and curious about this bro.
PS: I really appreciate your hard work, keep it up bro.. :good:

Mr. A,
That is a really great question. If I may be so bold as to answer:
Typically, when you build a ROM from source code, you need the cell phone vendor "blobs" (technical term for low level firmware) that make the phone hardware work, like the cellular and WiFi.
In many cases, you have to step back to an older boot loader and modem to work with the blobs that are available to the developer who makes the ROM.
To make ROMs using newer firmware, that firmware has to be extracted, and a lot of code, often called the device tree, or wrapper, needs to be written to use the newer modem and boot loaders. This is very time consuming, where often the older material can be slightly recoded or altered to accomplish the task much faster.
This, however, still takes a lot of time, but perhaps only a quarter of that of extracting and rewriting gobs of code. In most cases, the end result is nearly or sometimes completely identical.
In some cases, the newer material raises such complications that features may not work, until someone figures out how to do it. In the meantime, the older firmware still works great.
Hope that helps answer the question.

It's using CM13 kernel, device and vendor tree. I have modified slightly only device and vendor tree in order to be able to build Slim. I will publish the device and vendor later, not now, because I wanna try to build AOSP again.
This doesn't mean that is based on CM! Slim is based on AOSP which is slightly modified as you can see in the screenshots / features.
@ganesh varma said that the other models need some changes. I don't know what changes, but I can try to build for J500H too with the available sources at this moment and we'll see how it goes.

Krexus-CAF is what the name implies. The Krexus unique combination of mods, on top of a clean uptodate and latest CAF source.
Built mainly of top of AOSP-CAF (with permission) and using only what's necessary from all the other great non-nexus device supporting ROMs (CyanogenMod, Dirty Unicorns, AOSPB, Tesla etc), Krexus-CAF tries to provide the maximum compatibility possible with CM-based device trees while keeping a small ROM base.
Lead Developer: @KreAch3R
About Krexus:
Krexus was born out of a simple necessity. The latest releases of stock Android (namely lollipop and marshmallow) were pretty close to my idea of a perfect android ROM, yet missing some elements, which are meant to be included in stock Android, at least for me. Starting from a clean AOSP environment, only specific features and fixes are included, which are personally tested, with one goal in mind. To create a stock like android ROM, "as it should be".
This means, and I mean it, a ROM like how stock nexus image should be, for me.
This isn't going to get bloated. Most UI "features" are already there.
This isn't going to start picking commits relentlessly, I will test them personally and only add things that 1) work like they should 2) would fit in a stock ROM.
This isn't going to be updated very quickly. Only security and bug fixes will be pushed out ASAP.
This is going to follow Google's & AOSP guidelines as closely as I can.

Hardware key config has not been added yet, since this is supposed to be a Nexus rom, and Nexus don't have that. Same goes for navbar toggle, it will be added now that we are bringing up the oneplus devices. I am not the lead dev here like on GZR roms, so i can not just push stuff

Hi Martin, thanks for building such an awesome looking ROM, couple of suggestions between the big kings on the community right now.
Between Darkobas most recent build and Sultans most recent build being the 16th I think,
Camera comparisons, I believe using Sultans Camera (average shutter, great quality) would be a great way to go, compared to Darkobas' (quick shutter, not as good quality) so if you could get your hands on that would be awesome.
The screen is absolutely beautiful and well lit with a superb color match on the new sultan build as well, if you could get that on here that would be astounding.
I'm not trying to fanboy, just giving suggestions, sorry if I sound rude/intrusive.
Being AOSP, with CAF kernel, this should provide greater battery life then most roms out there. Will definitely keep an eye on this ROM.
Really like the idea behind the DozeOnePlus, that's pretty freaking awesome!
Testing this out and love how smooth and basic it is will give a battery report soonish. Is there anyway to add a camera apk to it.
Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
@martinusbe kudos man!! what a rom!! i haven't used such a decent rom with so much features, debloated and yet such an awesome battery backup in a long time
just one request, if you could add an option to disable hardware keys backlight.. thanks again! peace
edit: just read the recent posts and it is yet to be added.. got it

I'm just discovering this ROM.
So the default kernel doesn't support Double Tap to Wake ... ok. any advise for a good kernel? Will you include a kernel supporting this in a future?
Can we make some request ? If yes, quick unlock, double tap on lockscreen (you know I love this feature) and network traffic, double tap to put device in sleep on home button
Another thing : look likes we need to use the same firmware that the one for AOSPB rom ... strange for a CAF rom.

by "other builds" you mean other roms i guess
well my trees don't follow cm around, and i use my stuff on everything i build. So every rom i build will need the same firmware. If an update or change is needed you will be told or i will include it in the rom zip.
But since i am not an OEM i don't believe in overwriting a devices firmware without a decent Warning! to the users, and since many just download and flash whatever they find on afh without any research and then come complain when something doesn't work, i will probably not include it.

About Project:
Cardinal-AOSP is a Custom ROM which was initially based on AOSPB, then we changed our mind and rebased it to AOSP-RRO, to get better compatibility with most of the devices, Cardinal is being built with Uber toolchain, with most of uber optimizations, with full Substratum Support and with minimal customization, the main aim of this ROM is to bring stock AOSP experience as possible while maintaining performance, smoothness and good battery backup. I hope that you'll all love this project, and help us, shape it even more better.

Does it have the same GPS bug as CM13?
Wi-fi not working on Benschold/kernels based on it.
Other than that, love the rom! I'm gonna see if I can find a way to resolve the wi-fi problem.

GPS working fine here.. Not 1 issue with it. Faster GPS lock than on Oxygen (at least for me) and since it's AOSP based I would assume it is absent.

Boeffla is also CM13 based, works fine on the rom. This is the only AOSP based rom I've tried where benschold doesn't work.
I'm gonna try to pull out the wifi stuff from it.

I know. I just assumed the issue was because the rom was AOSP based but who knows. But if you do get anywhere with it be sure to let me know. Can send me a PM so we don't clutter the thread.

Notification slider settings does nothing and reset to default when I leave the menu.
Also I find no option for Sim 2 ringtone.
Sometimes at screen transitions the screen glitches.
Clean install, Pico open gapps

I can't vouch for SIM 2 as I only use 1 ... I've not seen any flickering but the alert slider, while it functions, customizing the settings do not stick for me either. Not sure what kind of log could be used for that since there's no visible errors.. the only issue I have is the text in some places seems too dark? If you switch to the dark theme you can barely see the secondary text.. like it's black on slightly lighter black...
Hello, compass won't work,, slider customization change as no effects, long press home button not launch google now, sim 2 not use lte only 2g, somes network modes isn't hide for my sim operator. data usage show only one sim.
But it's greate rom for battery life and reactivity

We’re really excited to announce that we are releasing our Nougat flavour of Paranoid Android. We have a lot in store - with a mix of both features & improvements.
First & foremost, we have moved our code base to be fully CAF based. This brings many improvements to your device. The key improvement here is that Qualcomm hardware is better tuned on the CAF base and with our additional optimizations we can provide a smooth and fluid user experience that will let you enjoy using your device without any lags.
On first launch you’ll notice a clean setup with a beautiful wallpaper from Hampus Olsson who’s teamed up with us again and created several beautiful pieces of artwork. For those of you who don’t know, Hampus is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work stands itself and we’re glad to have him onboard. We have also added several new features and made improvements to the UI of the system that we believe would enhance the overall experience.

You may post.
This ROM was tested under the following conditions:
1. Wipe/Factory reset
2. Flash ROM, Gapps, SuperSU, in that order
Any other conditions may cause problems
This is the first build, there may be issues that I didn't test for, but major functionality is OK.
@ZakooZ
Is it possible to use the latest 7-11-17 kk_bl.img with this rom? It is from mosimchah from his AICP rom and includes the latest changes. I would like to give Paranoid a try but as you know I'm still locked on the old bootloader.

I highly doubt it
I just made this: PA_KK_BL_kernel.zip. Try it, flash after rom+gapps and before supersu. I haven't tested it so I can't guarantee it does work.
Okay, guys!
Short review!
I've tested the rom for a few days now and so far it is rock stable. All works fast and smooth and battery seems on par with AICP/LOS/RR.:highfive:
I'm missing a lot of features like more quick settings tiles, more customizable navbar, statusbar center clock and so on... :crying:
It's almost like stock android with another browser, calender and music app and theming options, which I've not tried yet.
I know, it's an early build but I need too much of additional apps to get the missing features back, so I'll switch back to my prefered rom for now.
Maybe when more features are added and the rom is more like PA in 2014/15 was....but it is a start!:good:
ROM Looks Tasty
I'm always up for a port that tries a new direction and this seems to do that. All my tests with new ROMS is always full format and wipe, running current stable TWRP, LP BOOTLOADER, etc. It looks like this work runs plain Super SU without Magisk, and you indicate open gapps. Could I use magisk at all? And I find the BEANS Gapps to be more reliable.
Not to pry, but where are you focusing now for these versions? Are you still going to keep up with the big changes that PA brings, or work further with Oreo developement?
Either way, I'd like to give this one a run just for fun.
Thanks as always for your work that keeps my tabs, and my wife very happy. ;DeanoD

I missed something here; I have Prime kernel on all my units. Is it essential to switch to the Lineage Kernel that you provide? Always curious about inter-compatibility with such things to keep it working well.
With that said, I need an updated to my TWRP version. In which order to flash TWRP, KERNEL, ROM, AND SUPERUSER. (Or TWRP, ROM, MAGISK- or is that asking for trouble? Thaks again. ;-DeanD
Solid ROM. Nice, Simple, Clean
I flashed this ROM last night, and so far, I'm very impressed. While it lacks some of the bells and whistles from the RR build, it has a solid feel to it. Speed and performance are great as well. Other than a slight keyboard lag, this could work well as a daily driver on my stable of three smp600 units. I started with one, found one online when my wife wanted one, and then I got another for backup (and tinkerin') . While the ROM flashed perfectly, the suggested kernel was a bust. But, the build is I think more robust than the other's I've tried. I do miss having a recents menu, and I haven't been able to find any pie controls. I'm glad that I was scouring the forums and found this gem. Great Work! ;-DeanoD
"Official Devices"?
I'm interested about the improved pie controls listed under the features of this ROM.
I could not find them. I'm guessing that my smp 600 is somehow not an "Official Device" for this ROM. Just curious. ;-DeanoD
With all apparent development at a standstill for all of there great ROMS from the crew here at XDA, I suspect that there are others like me who are having withdrawal symptoms. Dare I say that XDA further spoils us because we reap the benefits of ROM developments A LOT faster here than we would otherwise get from the OEMS. I still cringe when I see an ad for a "new" android device running VERSION 5! Then they put so much effort into the next new devices.
All I can say or offer is my sincere praise for the people here BEHIND the ROMS. But, can anyone PLEASE offer some glimmer of hope that all is not completely dead with our SMP600 just yet. And, if anyone needs testers, I am ready to run with any of the roughest draft ROMS. This one seemed to start with a great starting point and then just stopped. Any news at all? ;-DeanoD
So far I like the ROM it feels solid. I use my tablet for drawing mostly and I'm finding that palm rejection is not working. The apps that I use are Autodesk Sketchbook Pro and Adobe Photoshop sketch. Anyone else seem to be having this issue?

Yeah, I'm also having the same issue, on stock palm was rejected when the pen was recognized, that doesn't happen here unfortunately. Couldn't get my LeftureNotes app to work no matter what I chose for palm rejection. Otherwise great ROM!

Update people
Version : 1.5
Changes:
1. camera fixed
2. added lenovo doze
3. added aospa's color engine - i did this because i've been trying to make mobile data work in aospa for about a month now . since i am unable to do that , i thought i'll take one of their cool features and implement in slim until some experienced dev takes up aospa.
link :https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=961840155545587323
note :
1. first boot will take some time ,so have some patience .
2. opening the camera for the very first time takes a few extra secs . after that it's fine.
This ROM really good. Just need a little attention.
Bug/Wish:
1) Battery icon or text color don't adapting to application. All time color is white. (First release)
2) Please, remove the DevTools app.
Slimrom needs a lot of customization options. Interface menu has just a option
Now, i am flashing last release. LOS 08.07 has reset problem.
Just a small request to developer that to make this rom official asap.
Hi, ROM is amazing but... How remove the search bar? I can't find it in settings. Thanks for your work!!!
