Standby drain - LG G6 Real Life Review

When you sleep, does your phone sleep, or does it stay up all night and crunch 1s and 0s? Rate this thread to express how you deem the speed at which the LG G6's battery drains under standby conditions. A higher rating indicates that when the phone is not in use, the battery drains minimally.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

I have been on and off mine all day without heavy use due to being at work, and by the time night came without me charging I was around 79%. This is from 5AM to 11PM. But I must admit... I went into the sttings and set EVERYTHING as inactive that I was able to do so and recommend everyone do it. The apps will never turn on or activate unless you manually open one in which case it will then stay active. It's great for apps that do crap in the background which you never use anyway. Oh, and I use Greenify as well, and always keep my tasks clear. So yeah... I'm used to saving battery by habit so my experience is different from most.

My standby time has been brutal... Would not be using my phone for around 1 hr and then id see my battery drop from a 36 to 30.... I closed all apps and even used the smart cleaner to get rid of some.. I dont know whats the problem to be honest. If they can fix the standby drain i could honestly reach for 5 to even 6 hours of screen on time

My standby has been really good, I can leave it off charge overnight and can only go down 2% or so, but once I start using it the % drops heavily after 5 minutes or so. I've got to go through the settings to turn off notifications because I've noticed apps like candy crush giving me notifications

I agree with jaeyo, my standby time is amazing. Off the charger overnight for 8 hours i only lose 2%. I do have AOD scheduled to turn off from 11p to 5a.

Did you hook your phone up to a computer and use the ADB commands to enable Greenify's aggressive doze? That really helped me, Nougat's built-in doze is still crap compared to Greenify. Also, setting WiFi to inactive while display is off, as well as enabling data saver in data management to restrict mobile background data for all apps helps greatly with wakelocks. Also everyone should consider disabling certain notifications from apps like Maps and Assistant which can create a lot of wakelocks.
I wrote a few tips to help with battery life on Nougat in the G5 section, but it should apply here as well:

Standby time wears on you depending on what apps you got running
?????

I found the culprit. Apparently one of my skin apps was causing wakelocks keeping the phone awake the whole time. Deleted it and installed greenify, will see how things goes

Does Greenify help? I get some seriously terrible standby drain going. Is it LG software that's so bad?

Honestly dont know how to fix this standby drain.. If ibhad root i would easily find the culprit through betterbatterystats but since i dont have that, cant seem to figure out why my standby drain is so high. I would leave my phone on the desk at 30% not using it all and come back 2 hrs later to 16%. Horrible standby time means losing precious screen on time sad sad

A wakelock is something that keeps the phone from sleeping properly, thus draining your battery quicker. The most common wakelocks are audioout_1 (any sound played), or networklocation (something that keeps wanting your position)
Try disabling GPS, auto-sync and disable wifi when you're not connected.

I upgraded to 4.1 a little while ago and I found that my battery life was pretty much the same.
To try and help rectify the situation I went through and disabled a bunch of apps that I just didn't use. I found that the Samsung apps (sync adapter etc.) were causing some heavy duty battery drain. I should say that my phone didn't have any issues with disabling Samsung software, but I can't be sure all of your apps will keep working.
I'd also suggest installing and running Carat for a week or two. It gives you some good insight into what's using your battery, lets you kill apps that are misbehaving and also lets you know which apps are potential battery hogs or have battery issues. You can then choose what you want to do with misbehaving apps. If it's an app that you just don't need then get rid of it, if it's something you use, perhaps look for an alternative or maybe use a task killer to just control the misbehaving apps, any not everything else. After running Carat for a while I really stripped back the apps that I had installed and only really have the apps that I need / use on my phone. Just be patient as results will take a few days to come through.
After all of that I get around 18 hours of "normal" type use: e.g. a phone calls, SMS, web browsing, corporate email sync (push), a polling email account and 2 Google accounts syncing. I have the Facebook app installed, but I have disabled auto-updates for that as well as Plume and Taptu.
Oh, I also set my phone to airplane mode between 11pm and 5am every day if I'm at home. I use PhoneWeaver to control my phone's profiles. And obviously GPS will drain the battery if it's on, and I also use Wi-Fi where I can, but turn it off if I’m not using it.
With 4.1 you'll find that Now *can* potentially cause some extra drain depending on what you do with it and what your location settings are. For the record, I'm using Now with the location settings on and I'm quite content with my battery drain. It can always be better, but I can live with charging once a day (I plug it in overnight and unplug when I go to work).
Also, give the phone a few days to let it settle in. I noticed quite a difference in battery drain over the first week of flashing, even with the same pattern of usage. One day I'd get 8-10 hours the next 12 or so. So give it a few days and see how you go.
Hope that helps and good luck!
Mike.

[Q] Help - ANDROID SYSTEM, GOOGLE SERVICES AND BATTERY DRAIN RELATIONSHIP

Anyone with some knowledge about the system and their workings (and what caused the battery drain), PLEASE HELP!
Attachment file is screenshots from GSAM, and the help I need is to understand what is causing it, or what would be just as nice is to learn how to stop it.
Basic info
Still .475 firmware
rooted with Vroot
Stamina off, but happens to an extent with but not as severly with Stamina on
I have Greenify installed, but doubt that this is the cause, since it happened before installation too
Only the chinese SU and Google+ disabled by going into system/apps
Here is the flow of what happened.
I Fully charged to 100%, disconnected and went to bed listening to podcasts (Beyond Pod)
I wake up 5 and 1/2 hrs later to find battery down to 15%
I open GSAM, take screenshots of what looks suspicious
I note that App usage is whopping 92%, where the screen is only accounting for 1.1% usage of screen.
Of the 90%+ of power used by apps, close look tells me is 44.7% is Android System, and 41% is Google services
Looking further into these 2 culprits, is where I get lost.
Is it something about wake lock? CPU usage (background)? WifiStateMachine is high up in the list of both Sysytem and Google services?
%numbers tells me that they are something to do with it, but I have no further understanding, thus powerless to prevent or cure.
As the first screenshot will tell u, when things were smooth, I get 15-16 hrs of Batt life
Any suggestions/actions???
If this is any hint, I have no idea, but once I remember seeing in notification bar a notice saying that some app was preventing Stamina mode from going into sleep mode...
It seems I faied to attach screenshots. Here are the missing ones in attachment
Interesting. I also use vroot and 475 kernel workaround to root my 510. Your phone clearly didn't enter deep sleep all that time.. Held awake for 5+ hours, and WiFi is on for almost 5 hours initiated by google service (strange, in my phone google service doesn't initiate WiFi on) but your first screenshot suggests that WiFi is active for only 33 minutes.. Looks like conflicting information.
My ZU also sucks a lot of power when held awake (not as fast as yours though - almost 100% in 5 hour is full screen-on for me; logging gps track with screen off is around 50% down in 4 hours) and the major power drain is the kernel, android service, and google service. Looks like a lot of background processing, but I can't figure out what's the specific cause(s) is..
For those with more proficiency in these things, is there any recommended place in the internet to start deciphering the power usage logs?

Yes, please, anyone?
Just to give update on what has happened since....
Still on .475 HK Firmware.
I have traced back what apps I have installed (in order, un-installed them one by one)
I dont know if the conclusion I reach is correct or not, but results seem to have solved it.
The 2 apps I have rid since are GREENIFY and TITANIUM BACKUP.
My guess is that Greenify was maybe the culprit?
It worked well on my previous device. But Not Z Ultra. Is it because it is SD 800 and it takes different kind of working/updating to fully compliment this SoC, Z ultra being the first out with SD800?
Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Yes, the hibernated apps are not giving notification anymore and gsam battery didn't report any wakelocks in sleep from them. But I can't really say about battery life, though, since in my case, sony's stamina mode is the main factor for battery saving. I treat greenify as a tool to minimizing data footprint.

S5 Battery Consumption

I had an LG G Pro and when i went to sleep every night the phone was at 100% and it would be like that for 8 hours of sleep, now with my Galaxy S5 the phone will consume 1% in 8 hours. I know that's nothing but why is it doing that if i'm not using the phone.

It all really depends on what your phone is doing or what is running in the background.
If you want to get to the root of the problem ( stand by for pun ) you should root your device (eyyyy ) but seriously root it and install wake lock detector. See what is using your phone and waking it up out of sleep. It could be that it randomly looses signal and starts searching for it during the night or it could be something like Facebook waking up and checking for updates.
The lg g pro has a stronger battery thats y

1% in idle is still amazing. Unless the phone is powered down, I'm not sure how you can really get much better than that.
"Samsung’s press materials say that the phone offers about 390 hours of standby time with LTE on." - Still insanely impressive and you probably have to have Ultra Power Saving mode on, which puts your phone's appearance and operations in crap mode.
If you lost 1% every 8 hours, then you will be getting roughly 800 hours of standby, which is double what Samsung claims you can achieve.
If you are going by what the other poster said, then he/she is likely referring to having the phone rooted and applying the "Greenify" app. This will hibernate anything, including system apps. I do hope you have luck with that... for some reason, when I use Greenify on this phone, I get worse battery life than with it off. I"m too lazy to tinker with it...
you do know that the phone is still on consuming power / electricity during idle/sleep mode, right...? I get about 3 days idle if I rarely use the phone and have like 11 things syncing stuff, which I find good.

How can you expect any electronic device that is ON to not have any battery consumption over 8 hours? obviously it needs to consume power to stay powered on...cpu is still running..cellphone still needs to maintain communication to the cell towers...syncing is still happening...running apps or system apps are still updating their status....

Could also be because the S5 just uses more power than the G Pro when on standby. I highly doubt it used less than 1% power in 8 hours though...
Just found out something, not sure if it helps, but I did notice a significant increase when you turn off location services for Google apps... namely the ability for Google maps to access your surrounding area and probe it for updated information. I saw an immediate increase after 19 hours I was at 62% having used the phone for regular use... so I think this might be the main culprit, although I'm not sure what LG is doing. I suspect that there is some sort of background killer in there working behind the scenes though.

DNS66: New adblocker for those unrooted

I just heard about this app elsewhere...and found the dev's thread on XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-dns66-source-host-ad-blocker-root-t3487497
https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=org.jak_linux.dns66
Running it now. Quite fast and elegant. Runs fine so far on v20. Adguard for example seems to interfere with LG's firmware updater, whereas this app does not.
I just uninstalled adguard to give this a try, my bigger concern is battery drain. I'll run it over the weekend and see how it does. Thanks for this
Used this all day today. Does a pretty good job at blocking most ads, I still see some here and there. Biggest disadvantage to this is the battery drain. It seems my phone is being prevented from going into deep sleep.

I just did basic homework with the built in battery stats monitor and GSAM. I haven't even looked at wake lock readouts.
I'm just chiming in to say that I used this adblocker for the past few days and my battery has been rather unimpressive. I'm going to try tomorrow without the ad block turned on to see if there's any noticeable difference compared to today at least.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I'll use it and post if I have any particular issues (battery drain, etc.)
I used this on my G3 for like 2 weeks and it worked pretty great. Going to put on it my v20.
Thanks for posting this, going to try it out.
Just installed this. Works great on my Verizon v20. So far has blocked all the ads in apps that were driving me nuts!!
Those who try it, please update with any battery drain info! I would love to use it if it didn't decrease battery life and/or keep my phone awake. This also seems like a common concern among many.
I'm been running it for a day.. So testing the battery life but for people already using it.. Does it stop YouTube ads?
Doesn't work on ads with YouTube, battery seems good and normal from before installing DNS66.
Issues I'm running into is with ChompSMS, it has issues receiving MMS. I tired changing the settings from Legacy to System but still won't work.
I've been using it for one day now. I am running a completely stock unrooted V20. I'm not a power user, so I'm not running a lot of apps that have ads. I did test it on all of the apps I have that run ads and it seems to be about 95% effective. This is great for unrooted users!
As far as battery life goes, I let it sit for about 5 hours with all apps closed and greenified. It was still at 100% 5 hours later. The day went on and I mostly just took some pictures and did minor amount of web browsing. It's now been about 10 hours since charged and I'm at 93%. App info in settings says this app has 0% battery usage since last charge. It looks to me that if you aren't using any apps that have ads it won't drain the battery. That's good news if you are worried about battery drain in standby or while not using apps with ads battery life seems normal. If you are worried about battery drain while using apps that have ads, then you have a choice, see the ads and preserve battery, or don't see the ads and charge more often. I can't confirm at this point if drain is higher with it activated and actually blocking ads versus not blocking real time ads. I'll try using some apps that have ads with it activated and with it off and see if there is a difference and report back.
Thanks @Skripka Nice work!

Standby drain

When you sleep, does your phone sleep, or does it stay up all night and crunch 1s and 0s? Rate this thread to express how you deem the speed at which the OnePlus 8 Pro's battery drains under standby conditions. A higher rating indicates that when the phone is not in use, the battery drains minimally.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Most my phone's besides my Huawei Nexus 6P have all lost 0-1% overnight.
Even with tweaking I can only manage at best 1-2% which I know compared to other users is excellent but it's definitely worse than my previous phones.
Without tweaking for stamina and good hibernation the device uses about 2-10% depending on what's installed, which wasn't any difference to previous devices (app wise)
I'm happy with it, I'll keep tweaking and see if I can hit that magic 0%

Change your launcher, my preferred launcher is lawn chair and this did actually burn up some battery when compared to the OnePlus launcher.
Don't use live widgets (yes they look cool, but they annihilate your battery)
Live wallpaper, again very cool, but battery burners.
Again! Don't charge overnight, make a note of your percentage then see what it is in the morning, you shouldn't be losing more than 5% really, if you've done well then it'll be reflected here, the good SOT results will follow.
Turn off live read outs of network speed, RAM usage in the status bar.
Turn off NFC unless in use.
Leave location on in quick settings.
Don't overcharge your phone, IE: overnight
Don't allow your phone to fully deplete the battery.
Whatever anyone says, this does 100% damage batteries, there is no argument here and I won't entertain anyone who says otherwise, Ive seen through real life tests what this results in, bloated, inefficient, possibly dangerous lithium batteries.
Keep your phone out the sun.
Keep it out of extreme cold.
Keep your device clean dust free.
Snapchat, Viber, house party, apps like that tends to use more battery as they don't have great dormancy periods.
Apps like speed test by Ookla tend to have location tracking, similarly they tend to turn themselves on and off when they feel like it, my advice, install test and uninstall.
Allow a couple of battery cycles between tweaking sets, to give you an idea of how much of a difference you've made.
Use BBS to see what is being used, once you've removed problems, remove BBS.
I've just written this from the top of my head so o probably missed some things, the general idea is to keep your device clean and fresh, remove files you don't need any more.
Keep an eye on apps that misbehave or aren't wanted, index your folders so they aren't a mess.
The more good things you do means the more potentially bad apps you can have on your phone, eg if you really need Facebook, you could keep it so long as you clean up other areas of your phone.
Good luck.

Cracking game though, I find android 11 open beta 1 charges really slow on a normal charger that's my only gripe with it, but battery is wow
I have a great screen on % ~13%h.
But standby sucks.
I also have removed/disabled stock apps, location of, only enable it when I use it, same with Bluetooth. But I still have 1-3% standby /h. Over night I loose 2-5 % and the same again right after I wake up and use it..
My standby time was so bad 3-4%h, that I rooted it and change doze with an app.
3% h over an day (12h) makes up 36% battery uses. Just laying in your pocket and doing nothing... That would be ~3h screen time.
Still can not get the standby time to 1% what it actually should be!

I'd look in alarms / wakelocks for the cause of your battery drain.
I have more like 0,7% / hr standby, 1,5-2% over night.
Uninstalling Facebook and Messenger would probably take me to 0,5 / hr and 1,5% overnight. This app is a f**** disaster, but unfortunately it's required in my company (Fb groups).

Wake gestures, like lift to wake.. Keeps the phone from sleeping..
Also don't worry about location, maintaining a location is now efficient than obtaining it for all apps in one hit.
I've never turned location off besides for Google, I pause location history, far too creepy.
I have no facebook, instagram or messenger, the only social apps I have are telegram and snapchat.
I use betterbatterystats but there is just no app that keeps the phone awak all the time. I have no f*** idea why it sucks so hard.
It's super annoying.
Android 11, drain is worse, SOT is worse and I've changed nothing compared to android 10.
Disappointing to say the least.

How's yours now?
I've just sent through all my apps and optimized all the ones I don't need running at full chat, also deleted some apps that may have been causing issues.
At the moment it's looking ok
3 hours up
1 hours SOT
92%
That's heading for 10 hours if I'm not mistaken, so may have been one of my apps or poor optimization on the phones part..
I'll keep an eye on it, have Gsam running as BBS simply wouldn't accept I'd granted app_ops permission?
Maybe an android 11 thing.

It's 120hz FHD. I honestly can't see much of a difference between QHD and FHD so taking a battery hit doesn't seem worth it.
I'm currently heading for 12 hours here. Have just been using XDA and watching some videos. No gaming today, WhatsApp and telegram.

I'm running blu-spark. Never used it before but it's idle performance is brilliant.
Very impressed. Also extremely low clocks 300mhz
Great tips from many members. My phone drains very minimally while standby.
