Much better in person than the photos showed.

The g6 is a beautiful phone. Feels premium in the hand and you only have to hold it to fall in love with it

This phone looks and feels extremely premium. I love my phone and I've been loyal to LG even reluctantly. They a did a great job this time around
?????

I said this is one of kind of phone especially the large screen. However, I hate LG made full screen but didn't allow user to hide the navigation and expand apps to take advantage of large screen size. So, what is the point having a large screen while you lose the bottom of the screen to the navigation? I set all app the use 18:6 ratio but does not work as I expected. I love it but hate it.

If you did a bit of reading you'd learn most apps aren't yet optimised for the 18:9 display. Quit whinging and enjoy your new phone :good:

I personally like having the Nav bar always there

I love the look G6. Its amazing

Yeah I often take it out of the case at home because it just looks so damn beautiful. I love the way it is cut and just how tall the screen is. I do admit. I am used to wider screens but since having this phone I find I prefer this tall screen think phone look and feel.

I dig it. Can't wait for the new phone feel to wear off, so I can wear it without the case. Kinda wanting to hear about any screen cracking problems (or lack their of)too.
Got the silver one. I think it looks just as good, compared to pictures.

I love the black one (which is what I have), like less the white one and hate the platinum one... Sorry but a small bezel phone with such good black levels is ruined with a non-black bezel imo!
I love the effect of the screen being invisible when it's off/showing solid black!

Fortunately there is the choice, because for my part I love the ice platinium, the white a little less but it still happens ..
But the black I do not like at all, it spoils all the curves of the phone and this glossy aspect really gives me a feeling cheap ^^
A color that would give me a lot more: Bordeaux red (I do not know if it means something in English, more simply wine color) with the same brushed metal effect as Platinum :silly:

Display doesn't comply with high demands

Tell me is the screen of G2 so inglourious as shown there http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2458409 ?
Seems LG uses worst and cheapest glass it could possibly find so it produces such distortions in picture. Maybe we must tell them they should better buy displays directly from HTC? WDYT?
What do I think? I think you've been trolling the G2 forums for a long time. Let people make their own decisions. I haven't met a high demand my screen doesn't comply with, so I think the title of this thread is ridiculous as well. If you don't like the phone, buy one you do like, and stop posting nonsense please. Its hard enough to sift through the good information on XDA, people shouldn't have to weed out bogus info.
Probly you confuse me with somebody else. 'Cause it's my advices considered useful not somebody's else
I just edited my post because it was harsh. You asked a question and it deserves an answer. I will leave that part of my response.
I just came from a DNA that has one of the best screens ever made and this screen is is marvelous even in comparison from every angle even extreme ones.
I don't know how anyone can complain about the viewing angles on the G2. Coming from just about every major smartphone of 2012/2013 I can say I didn't notice it. Do people really use their phones at extreme angles?
On a TV or Monitor, I get it, you may have it up higher or lower or whatever, but it is a PHONE. You generally have it in front of you...
Just food for thought. Personally I am very happy with the display on the G2.
If you want great viewing angles go get something with a super amoled screen. No one is forcing you to keep your phone. Or maybe your phone is defective. I have 0 issues with my screen.

personally this is the best screen ive used. some people are just so nitpicky. they should work in Quality Control so we dont get dings scratches that ive seen on my new macbook airs, iphone 5's.

I'm thinking you must not have seen this display in person. First off, this display is by far the best I've ever seen on any phone. The S4's display didn't really look as brilliant to me as this one does despite the contrast ratio of AMOLED. I love this screen and it's disappointing for people to troll this forum posting bad things about the IPS+ display. It's absolutely beautiful. I, also, wonder why you need extreme viewing angles for a smartphone screen. Corning Gorilla Glass 3 is not even close to the worst or cheapest glass anyone could find.

eh, this screen iis good, but it's not as good as the DNA. hands down, DNA is better. better viewing angles, and doesn't have that weird rainbowish effect when looking at grays and whatnot..apparently there's a layer in there that HTC bought the rights to that LG i guess didn't...the G2 screen reminds me of my Rezound, which had that same weird effect to it.
dna screen kills all, hands down.
IMHO the G2 has a fantastic display. The viewing angles are fine for what they would be used for... maybe looking at your phone on a table without picking it up. other than that, 99.9% of viewing on a smartphone is done straight on.
Yeah, the viewing angle thing I get, but in real world use it is a non-issue. I came from an S3 and that screen is cosmetically beautiful, but incredibly inaccurate and way too contrasty for my tastes. It's like putting a TV in "demo mode", but all the time. Not to rag on it, I really enjoyed the S3, but if you want the best, most accurate display around, I cannot imagine anybody besting the G2 for a while...
I am loving the screen. The preloaded videos really showcase it.

I have no rainbow our any other screen anomaly.
For full disclosure my DNA had a very light blue spot about 6mm.
The LG screen is "tricky". You don't appreciate it until you look at a high definition video. Even the ones recorded on the DNA look better.

Same here, came from the DNA, still have it so side by side is easy comparison, and while the DNA screen is beautiful by anyone's standards, the G2 has the most gorgeous screen of any phone I've ever seen.
Android Authority's Review...
Listen to what they say about the screen & viewing angles compared to the GS4
Here's GSM Arena's review as well. Pay attention to what the reviewer says about screen quality & viewing angles
There you have it. 2 different respected reviewers saying the same thing & comparing the G2's screen to competitor phones lol
/thread
Out of all the phones I've owned, this display is great. No issues here, unless of course, you're under direct sunlight.
Sent from my LG-D800 using Tapatalk 2
As someone mentioned the 2 videos they include on the phone are really nice to watch and show what the phone can do in that respect. I also like the ringtones and notifications from the Vienna Boys Choir lol. Also I live in Florida and this is the first phone where I could see the screen all through the day no matter where I was in or outside in the sun, I do have to take off my polarized shades in direct sunlight or the screen is too dark but that was the only time I couldn't see lol. Some folks complain about using the volume key shortcuts for the camera and quick memo and I say to them you can open them 2 or 3 other ways too. I haven't touched the power button since I got this phone, I just knock it on and off.
Viewing angles?
I'm looking at my phone with the most absurd viewing angles and there is only little change to what I can see. The colours are the same even looking from 160 degrees... I don't get your point here. LG is one of the best display makers out there imo...
I didn't realize how "muddy" my S4 was until I put it down on the desk next to my G2 and the DNA I have here. Someone here mentioned to me that the S4 whites were dirty or grey and sure enough it is, I just didn't notice it until I laid them side by side at the same brightness. I keep my brightness down around 40 to 50% most of the day and the G2 looks better there than the S4 or DNA to me. If I crank the brightness all the way up the S4 looks a lot better but that's not where I keep it set so it doesn't matter. I'll have a Razr Maxx HD here later and I'll compare it too just for curiosities sake. I'm very happy with the G2 screen now especially since I used that tiny nav bar mod.
As for viewing angle, I don't view my phone at an angle and I really don't want people next to me always seeing what I'm typing anyway. I don't WANT a wide angle.
If there are complaints to be had about the G2, believe me, the display ain't one of em. She's drop dead gorgeous.

Ergonomics (in-hand feel)

Please, no "that's what she said" jokes. Rate this thread to express how you think the Sony Xperia X Compact feels in-hand. A higher rating indicates that it's comfortable to hold for long periods of time, even in one hand. Resist the urge to say "TWSS" just now. Seriously.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I don't know how to rate a post in the Android app, but I'd give it 11 out of 10. The best phone to buy right now if you care about ergonomics. Some people might say you can get a larger screen in similar size, but trust me, those crazy thin bezels just make it harder to hold without pressing anything. X Compact is just perfect. In fact, I'd prefer it to be even smaller with a 4.3" screen, but it's literally the very best option we have right now, without any competition.

I agree with you
if you go to the the site via chrome browser rating is under topic name(when you open the topic)
I gave 5 stars
From my experience with the moto X 1st gen, it's worse in the hand but it has some points elsewhere.
The shape + thickness (the brick) makes it uncomfortable for me as I feel like I need to put strength in my fingers as a claw when walking. My moto X was just resting in the palm of my hand.
But the fingerprint just hits home as it comes under the thumb or my left hand's midlle finger. Same for the camera button which I always used for portrait pics.
Excuse this froggy for his english.
I think it's quite the opposite. The Moto X 2013 was heavier in the top and the super thin rim at the bottom meant I had to hold the phone quite high to use the keyboard. The phone threatened to fall out of my hand during swiping. Only a case with a cutout for the dimple fixed this for me. I could rest a finger in the cutout and secure the phone.
The XC is a joy to hold and just that tad smaller than the Moto X to be perfect for my small hands. Especially that bigger rim at the bottom makes it so much easier to hold and use with one hand!
A huge step down from the Z5c and Z3c. these sharp corners make one hand use pretty much impossible. Tearing open the phone proves there is nothing but air in the corners so Sony is making this design choice on purpose, WHY?
Slightly too large bezel for size. Not quite as comfy as Z3 compact or z5 compact but better than larger phones netherless.
I really like the X Compact's feel. I have large hands, so all small phones are a touch "cramped". XC's rounded edges and material is really comfortable in my hands. I even like the bezel size.
I just ordered the official flip case, no idea how it will change the ergonomics.

Is the G6 the end of "notchless" flagships?

The news is that the leading manufacturers including LG are moving to notched screens.
I think the G6 screen is perfect as is. IMHO the notch is stupid and will be a passing gimmick
Let's hear people's opinions

Good thing that I won't buy a new smartphone for another ~2 years so I will miss this "trend".
The seeming motivation for the notch is being able to have an edge to edge screen. Firstly, that in itself is just a gimmick, a style like high heels. Screens are big enough and devices are small enough for people. Who care about an extra 3mm of screen? Second, the notch ruins the screen. For all intents and purposes, the "wings" on the side of the notch are useless except for icons. If you view anything else full screen you either need a black band to keep the rectangular image, or some of the image gets blocked by the notch.
What blockhead thought of this???
And that's not even touching the subject of why a sane person would pay Apple 1200 dollars for a cellphone, which they're replace with the next gimmick in 2 years. But that's not the subject here...
I don't mind the notch myself, probably because I don't use my phone for much full-screen stuff. I do prefer the small one of the Essential though.
I am sure manufacturers are working hard on ways to maximize screen-to-body ratio (which is a real consumer desire even though not everyone cares about it) without needing notches and in a few years they will be as common as physical keyboards (and I also think, despite the current outcry, that wired headphone jacks will soon seem quaint and not too long after that, so will wired charging).
In the meantime, while I'm sure there will be many notch-free designs, there will also be many notched ones and general consumers will buy them as long as they come from Samsung and Apple or look like they do.
Personally I could completely live without a front-facing camera, which would reduce the notch problem a lot, but I think that one is around forever.
Just a gimmick to copy the iphone. I absolutely hated the huge bezels on my Nexus 6P but the bezels on my G6 don't bother me at all.
Gimmicks. Gimmicks all around.
Hopefully this G6 lasts me until the notch trend dies off.
small bezels are the way to go imho. It depends on what we use our devices for, but as long as a lot of media has certain standard formats, it makes sense that our screens have that format too..
To my eyes balance and symmetry are important for good visual design. Notches destroy that completely.. It might look ok with a UI that is specifically designed around those notches. But as soon as you watch something on youtube it becomes awkward, same goes for 18:9 aspect ratio btw.
What really astonishes me though, is the fact that android manufacturers now start to copy that FLAW of the essential phone/iphone X. It's totally obvious that Apple wanted to make a all-screen phone and they FAILED. They had to compromise and settled for an awkward solution with the notch. Nobody buys the iphone X because of the notch... You accept and live with it because the rest is great. Nobody will look at the Huawei P20 or LG G7 and say: "wow that notch. I need that." (same goes for headphone jack btw)
I bought the a G6 a few weeks ago because my 2 year old Huawei P9 broke and i got a good deal. The G6 is already a year old but design wise it's still one of the best phones out there imho. Everything else has become really awkward with notches, rounded edges, missing features, bad materials... It's a mess. I just hope people will vote with their wallet - it's the only way the companies will realize that what they're trying to sell is not what people want.
Maybe there's hope https://www.xda-developers.com/lg-v35-6-inch-oled-display-without-display-notch/

I actually don't mind bezels, at least not on the top and bottom, and I think the Nexus 6p is still a beautiful phone today. Anyone else agree?

When it comes to aesthetics this phone as no competitors, i had just phone on a debrand skin, and its best thing that has come to my hand since htc mate, the hold grip the edges all are so immersive, if you guys are using any cases, dont, use it for few days completely naked, and u will thank me, as the touch response is so amazing without covers, though I'm using it will supplied screen protector, I'm curious how it feels without the screen protector, any inputs?

Watching hdr movies on it is just amazing and sound quality is excellent throughout that's the device that I place in front of my eyes while sleeping .and guys the update we r getting with android 10 oh man these gestures and animation is so so amazing I m waiting for that update eagerly.

I agree, but life keeps me from using it naked outside the house. But it IS absolutely gorgeous. I got the Aurora Glow due to impatience (its the oly color they had on hand when I went to get one) and thought, "I'll just throw a case on it so I don't look like I'm carrying around a unicorn". But damn if I haven't fallen in love with the look and only got myself a clear case for when I'm out of the house. All around beaut.
Nothing earth shattering and futuristic like the first time we saw the Note Edge or Note 5 or BT pen from note 9. Still has a hole in the camera. Still has a refreshed design. Screen size increased by a hair. Even diluted the brand by making a smaller Note. Could have tossed in a better refresh rate. Lots of design elements on flight pattern until next iteration it seems.
Of all of the phones I have owned this one has to be just as far as looks go the best. I like the boxxy rectangular shape with less of a curve to the display and less round corners which are huge improvements to me.
The build quality is top notch. I like the feel of the phone even as large as it is it is comfortable and light to hold.
I actually like the left buttons. I like the almost entirely screen display. I think if you were to shrink the bezels any more it would be impractical.
I don't normally care what a phone looks like but this one certainly has a lot of personality.
Yes indeed, this is by far the best looking device I have had so far
Now, months later, my opinion is even more valid, the recent box like camera modules are really ugly...
And the note 20 will have horrendous silver rings around every single camera, like those apple and pixel devices

Rounded screens suck. That's why I reject the S10.
The phone's bezel is nonexistent from a protective stand point so it need a case 24/7. Lol, I only see the OLED of this phone and the S pen.
Unfortunately Samsung couldn't envision something truly revolutionary like no selfie hole pie hole.
A no hole screen/front cam would kill the selfie ftards for sure....

I have it in a Bolt case. Well protected, Thank You.
It's taken a few corner drops onto concrete with no damage. I replace the first Bolt case after a couple hard corner impacts as they may have caused material fatigue.
The Note 10+ wuvs to corner hit and faceplant.
No joke.
The s pen corner is where it lands on a lot; make sure your case protects this corner well...
Case and screen protector or it will get marred.

Just received mine today. Two words , it’s beautiful.
I didn’t think I’d like narrow screens but this feels so good in the hands. Winner.
Didn't like the waterfall screen at first, kept accidentally touching it, but I think I'd struggle going back to a flat display now.
Aesthetically it's a gorgeous phone, the glacial green is not my colour on paper but it's a handsome device when you first see it.
Changes colour to a light blue in the right sunlight.
Probably the best looking phone I've ever had
Received my Onyx Black yesterday, coming from a OP 3T.
The first impact is how big it is. After some hours with it, my OP3T seems so small that I don't want it anymore!!
I still don't like the curved borders. There's no real advantage on having them and on white backgrounds the curves seem a bit transparent and you can see like a "shadow effect" on the borders.
I still am not amazed by the QHD screen. I find the ones from Samsung or Huawei better. Even the 120Hz is not a revolutionary thing to me yet. lol
The glossy black is indeed a fingerprint magnet. I will use a case, so the phone color doesn't mean much to me. Knowing this, I opted for the Onyx because it will be fine with all cases, is stealthy and because everyone went for the other color. I want to be different. lol
The camera bump is much bigger than I thought, but with a case the problem is solved.
Overall I'm satisfied, but not so amazed as I expected to be.
Heavy brick for real. So the in hand feel is shyte, and it falls off the magnetic charger in car due to massive weight. Reminds me of bulky Note9. Mi9 had the optimal weight for a big screen - 175g but i'd go lower. Would be good to produce smaller Oneplus phones like Samsung has. Let's see what happens next year.
Looks like every other phone when you put the case -- a black screen stairing at you, undistinguishable from any other current phone -- but this is slightly improved by the edges and AOD. That is good flagshippish improvement.
Fits like a glove for my larger hands. Best device currently for my usage!
Very good looking phone, but veeery slippery /smooth..I would smash it without a case, just a matter of time.
Size is perfect for me though.
