Can't access recovery mode. NO HOME BUTTON - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everybody. I was recently playing around with SlimKat for a bit but I wiped data and It's in a bootloop (I think) .Unfortunately, the home button on my S2 is broken, so I am unable to get to recovery mode by the normal means.
Is there any other way that I can access the recovery mode without using the home button? Unfortunately the phone won't boot so I can't use an app on Android to do so. I want to reflash SlimKat and I also don't have a PC. Help it's urgently.

The only real solution is to fix the home button. At some point you will NEED it!
There are ways to get the phone working though if you want to make your life more difficult.
1. Get a USB jig to access download mode.
2. Flash stock rom for your region from sammobile or similar website.
3. Enable ADB debugging, then use ADB to reboot to recovery.
You may still run into problems doing this, as you most likely will need to do a factory reset from 3e recovery after flashing the stock rom for it to boot properly.
Please use internet search and search on XDA for more info, but I'll repeat myself: You need to fix your home button

[Q] How to boot to recovery mode when home button is broken

Hello everyone! Here is my problem.
The home button of my gs2 is broken. I knew that some rom have the function that rebooting into recovery mode when power on.
But somehow, I need to boot into recovery mode when power off.
In addition, I've got a item which can help me get into odin mode when power off. The item in Chinese we call it "Wa mei shen qi"~
I would like to know is it able for me to boot into recovery mode with this? Or any other possible way for gs2 from power off state.
Thanks!

The "Item" you are talking about could be a USB Jig? As you already said: it will take you into download mode but not recovery mode.

Can you tell us why?
For a running device with USB debugging enabled you could run adb reboot recovery to boot into recovery mode. However this is for a running device, not for a device that is powered off.
I don't either fully understand what you're meaning by this.
But as far as i know the only way to access CWM when power off is Power+Home+VolUp, but then ofcourse i'm not a pro at this...yet there could be another way to access Recovery while power off which i haven't found out about.
I don't understand also why you must access Recovery while power off, in your situation (with the home butten broken) it would be easier to get ROM Manager. It has an option to reboot into Recovery mode. Or if you rooted with CF-Kernel, it come with a CWM app that let's you choose if you want to reboot normally, reboot into download mode or reboot into Recovery mode.
and if i may ask, what do you mean by Odin mode? Is it download mode?

Thanks for your informations.
The reason is that I flash a rom in Odin mode, but after that I can't get powered on, it always remains in the starting animation.
I've been in this situation many times, for every time, a wipe data / factory reset in recovery mode will fix the problem. However the problem arises, for this time, my home button is broken.
And I've tried a lot of other roms from Odin mode, it still remains in the starting animation. So I really need a wipe in recovery mode badly.
The "item" may be the same with USB jig from your description.

Yes, for Odin mode, I mean the download mode.
The reason that I need to boot into recovery mode is given in #4. And thanks for your information , but I really need to boot into recovery mode to do a wipe data / factory reset to save my gs2.
boot into recovery/download mode
..so u have a bootloop & ur home-btn is broken..
am i right?
the jig would bring you to dowload mode
install via odin ur rom with repartition..
u will need a 3-parted rom
that should solve your problem..cause i think theres no way to come into the recovery mode if u have a bootloop
[email protected] said:
u can use an app to boot into recovery/download mode
just look at the marketplace which you prefer
- i use stweaks from sieya kernel
the jig would reset the counter and bring you to dowload mode

He can't boot, so that is no option for him unfortunately.
I believe adb can be used when the animation starts, haven't checked it. If so, simply do adb reboot recovery.

Yes, adb can be used during boot, but only if USB debugging was enabled before.

Umm~This may work if adb.exe can get connected with my phone in booting animation. I'll try it later.
You must press on button for a few seconds then click on reboot then take recovery.

you can also use an app called [ Anreboot.apk ] but you must have a root permission ok

I've tried this with adb tool in andriod development SDK.
However during the booting animation, even if Windows Device Manager detect Android ADB Interface, "adb devices" shows no adb connections.
Maybe the only way for me is finding a rom with auto wipe after flashing it by ODIN.
The only way you can get this fixed is get your phone-home button fixed in a samsung repair center ma8..
There's no other way you can go to recovery mode without the home button use...you can use th usb jig only to go into download mode!. Hope this helps.

samsung galaxy s2 software bricked ?

I have used the tutorial for rooting my phone, it goes through the first stage on pda flashing an insecure rom, phone reboots and i have the yellow triangle, then the phone just locks on black screen, tried running the easy root software, it connects to the phone then stops.
I can enter recovery mode and tried a different kernal but still same problem, Thanks in advance for any help.

download, unzip the downloaded file until u get a tar.md5 file
got o recovery and wipe data/factory reset (and format system, preload, data and cache if on a custom recovery, check under mount and storage)
reboot to download mode, plug your phone
open odin, click pda, select the tar.md5 file, hit start and wait.
if the phone does boot after flashing, wait a minute, reboot to recovery, wipe data/factory reset and reboot (even if the device boots at first time, i advise u to do this wipe anyway)
back working again, couldnt get into the recovery mode, tried the up volume home and power, also searched and tried the up down power also, all i want to do is unlock my phone lol

[Q] Volume Down Not working. Replaced flex cable but still stuck on Safe Mode.

Hello,
Basically I got the same problem like this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2407711
Everything was working until one day I found out that the power button and volume keys were doing nothing. So I restarted the the phone and it booted up and buttons begun to work except the volume down. And it was in the safe mode
Tried restarting, removing battery for few minutes, shorting battery pins for few seconds while battery is removed and its still stuck in the safe mode.
Phone was running OMEGA ROM when this happened and I tried flashing stock 4.1.2 ROM and 4.2.2 ROM but nothing changed. still stuck in the safe mode.
I can access the recovery and download modes but volume down or up doesnt work on stock recovery so I flashed CWM touch.
Thought it was a hardware problem and tried replacing the flex cable with buttons and even tried powering on without the connecting the flex cable connector. but still stuck in the safe mode and volume down isn't working.
I don't have warranty remaining and I'm trying to find a way to make this come out from the safe mode. Do you have any suggestions? I dont mind the stuck volume key if I can force this out from the safe mode.
Please help

if the phone is not rooted, root it. if already rooted, install CWM manager. from it you can directly enter recovery mode and download mode. though the app is not fully safe, i prefer it as there is no help from the hardware. good luck

I have no issues on accessing Download mode or recovery mode. Its just that i cant get out of safe mode
This is hardware problem.

Stuck on infinite bootloop - no rom HTC ONE M7

I searched the forums, looked like everyone who had this problem rooted their phones and installed custom roms, however i did not tamper with the phone in anyway, no rooting or custom rom, just nothing, this is the 3rd time in 6 weeks i get stuck in an infinite restart loop, i did two factory resets and i can't just do another one, i'm sick of this! there has to be a way to stop this, please help!
so far i have tried:
1-installing an antivirus and scanning (nothing found)
2-restarting in safe mode, the phone continued to restart in safe mode
3-uninstalled new apps that i installed recently
there has to be a way!!
Just found out that Facebook app is doing the trouble, whenever i load it the phone restarts, so i decided to uninstall it, i tried going in settings > apps, once i open there before reaching facebook the phone would restart, i can do whatever i want with the phone but i cant go to settings > apps, then i tried uninstalling it by pressing and holding the app icon and i was given the option to uninstall and i did, it starts to uninstall, then the phone restarts!
After that i went into safe mood, and the same thing happened, on both methods i can't uninstall it!
what the hell is this problem?? i looked everywhere and no one has it!
Anyone ??????????????
And now when i'm receiving media on whatsapp it's restarting!!
Maybe you're having permission issues, do you have cwm?
if yes go to your recovery mode and click on advanced>fix permissions.
try that but if it doesn't work than I can help you any further
And now it's in an infinite bootloop again, restarting, 2 seconds in the main screen and then restarts again, then all over and over and over and over and over again!

Here is a explanation for Download mode
Always clean the dalvik cache
I have the same problem before. The best way to avoid bootloop is to clean the dalvik cache every time you install a new rom. If your using CWM recovery, you can find that option in advanced tab. Unfortunately if you have stock recovery , just try to format to factory reset then reboot , as soon as you successfully booted, install CMW such that you have the option to clean the dalvik cache in the recovery for your future rom installation.

I9300 safemode issue

I'm having an issue with my phone volume down button. Even though I can physically press it without any problem ,the phone itself won't detect keypress. So I cant even go to download mode.
At first I have tried to clean the cache, dalvic and tried the same rom - not working
Tried that volume up+ power thing while it turn on ... not working
cleaned the phone physically but there were no dust or anything -not working
Installed original rom after formatting my partitions still not working
Still my phone stuck with safe mode. If this issue cant be fixed can anyone suggest me to disable safe mode in this phone or suggest me a rom which is not having safemode function . I know it's really dumb question to ask. But I have no other option to left .
please help me out !

the rom which i used , had power option menu which include "recovery, download, power off, restart". So i hadnt any issue with it. Also at that time it detect vol.down button sometimes. But now.. it dosent work at all
...so it wasn't firmware. And flashing firmware by Odin would be the way to repair any software-bug. But unlikely, that you manage it without power buttons.
