Like the title says I'm in search of a fast charge wireless car charger with a flat back. I'm intending on attaching it to my proclip mount to be able to dock it when I'm in the car and have it charge without plugging it up. If it has three coils that'd be great but I'd prefer a fast charge over three coils. This is what I'm intending to do:

Wired is still faster. I built one last year for my 6P that the phone slides into and straight onto the fixed USB plug. Its glued to a proclip/brodit ball joint and dash mount that came with the car. I'll be building a new one when I get my S8 that's a bit sleeker

Yeah i know wired is faster but I like the idea of being able to slide it in and go. I could probably built something similar to that for my universal "iPhone" holder but I think the wireless option will do. I have a 4 port quick charge lighter adapter so I can alway go to cable if I need to. I wish there was a proclip for my car similar to yours where the mount is on the opposite side of driver. My ball joint holder and windshield wiper don't always get along.

Mine is "slide & go" plus it will increase phone battery % while Bluetooth music and navigation are both active...
Yeah but I mean docking wise. For me personally I'd have to open the charger port for my case to that'd be an extra step. Not hard by any means but just an extra step I'd have to go through. That's why I like the wireless charging option.

I use the exact same setup (except I bought the ball mount plate from proclip), solid and perfect for my needs. Slap it in, squeeze it closed and go. When done, hit the button, it pops open and you're good to go. Couldn't be easier and it's super sturdy.
I'm not sure if I want to go with my Garmin ball point swivel or just mount it using gorilla tape. I think I'm going to do the tape because I won't be using it for GPS and calls will be showing up on the head unit. The charger is shipping today so we'll see soon.

The pattern on the back matches my ProClip. It doesn't say it anywhere, but I took a chance and it does. The down side is it is only 5W. On my Note7 is would stay just a small amount above even with screen on, Bluetooth music streaming and navigation. With the screen of it charged but not fast. Recently the bottom clip broke off. I too am looking, hopefully for a 10W unit. I also wasn't a fan of having to squeeze it to open the grippers, but it wasn't that bad.
I keep a cord in the car for those times when I need to do some real charging.
i made a qi car charger from an old mount that i've been using since the nexus 5 then s6. It works but barely charges the phone with navigation. i want to get a new fast charge coil. There are a bunch of diy coils on banggoods and amazon but not sure which one does fast wireless charging. Anyone seen one for sale?
Don't have the link on Amazon but Dodocool Qi Wireless Charger 10W 3-coil Fast Wireless Charging Car Mount. It's $40 although there are cheaper. If you can wait til my phone comes in I'll let you know if it actually says fast charge once I give it a shot.

My setup... Doesn't look pretty but it works great.
I glued mine to my dual proclip mount. Mine fast charges as well. I have an nfc tag stuck to the charger so bluetooth turns on and connects to my headunit when I set the phone in then it'll turn off if I remove it. It's a dodocool fast wireless charger from Amazon for $40 but well worth it after I did everything.

I just bought this for $22 (25% corporate discount) at the Verizon corporate store here. It actually does not cover the headphone port, and leaves about 3mm, plenty for my fat cassette audio jack.
In fact, it also comes with 3 inserts: 1 for std batt cover, 1 for extended battery cover, and 1 for std w/case (!).
The USB is simply micro-usb that connects on the back, and doesn't come with USB cable or charger.
For reference, I bought the extended battery for $30 on sale, and it fits great in the mount.

Agreed... I will say that there are no cables to "worry about" with this mount, as it plugs in when you mount it.
On another note, it immediately launches the car panel app when mounted in this dock.

You still have to make sure the plug goes into the jack. To me, that's not quite the same as mindlessly dropping it in; I usually have to look for at least half a second to make sure its lined up. Also, you can't have it in different orientations, you can get into trouble with 3rd party cases and it won't work with your wife's phone or your next upgrade, etc.
I was thinking to maybe make one out of a generic mount and the guts for an existing inductive mat but haven't really looked into the specifics.
I'd love to hear from anyone that can attest as to whether either of the Otterbox cases work with the inserts, and what material the inserts are made from (for possible modding).

QFT. The revelation that the OEM car mount comes with different inserts for different variations of the phone's cover really surprised me. I'm hoping that it works with the Otterbox Commuter at the very least.

Anyone tried to use this with a usb input on their car deck? My deck has a usb input for iPod/mp3 player, my ipod works fine if you plug it in directly to the deck with just a usb cable but will not work if you use an ipod dock, just wanna know if this is the same way.

I can confirm. The car dock will not charge your phone atleast not with the screen on and nothing else running but battery monitor widget.
I bought one and tested it extensively yesterday. I used a Verizon 1a charger and a generic 1a charger. With the dock and both chargerz the phone DIScharged(as in LOST battery power) at between 100ma and 200ma. Without the dock using the same chargers and changing nothing on the phone the phone charged at between 50a and 300ma.
I did the test several times to eliminate any random things the phone may have been doing in the background.
After doing that controlled test I played with it some more and no matter what I did I could not get a positive charge with the dock attached even in airplane mode with the screen backlight at minimum. Without the dock using the same chargers i ran Pandora and a police scanner both outputting through the phone speaker, gps, wifi, mobile all on, and screen on auto and still had a very small positive charge.
Moral of the story DO NOT BUY THIS DOCK unless you dont mind it just being a piece of plastic that holds your phone in place.

I got my Otterbox Commuter today and tried it with the "iBolt" car dock, but as I should have guessed, they don't work together because the USB cover on the case gets in the way. The inserts for the car dock are made from polystyrene or ABS, I'm not totally sure. Probably PS because they are pretty stiff. It might be possible to chop a piece out to accommodate the case flap, but I'm returning mine and picking up a universal phone/camera mount instead. A little over-kill perhaps, but it's inexpensive and can mount my cameras too, if I feel the need lol.

I too can confirm the iBolt dock does not properly charge the phone. Noticed it the first time I use it on a 2 hour trip using navigation with the screen on only for half the time. Before I left the battery was at 75%. When I finally got to my destination the battery was at 10%.
Does anyone know of any other dock or a fix for this one?

I ordered one of these. I had the verizon one but returned it when I realized it was a piece of crap and wouldn't charge. I will review this one when I get it.
I received one of the VZW car docks in the mail yesterday and the first thing I did was to install it and test the charging capability. I was relieved to find that it is charging my phone. The caveat here is that I was using a charger with dual USB ports, not a regular one-piece car charger, and the USB cable I had in the truck from my old Droid X. Might that make some difference?

Does the charger have a output rating on it? The phone will charge with a good 1a charger if you don't use it AT All, and it will charge very slow, if even the screen is on it will drain the battery. One of my Engineer friends helped look into this a little. We are still investigating but for those that cannot STAND the constant car dock mode, if you DE-SOLDER the small chip (remove completely and do NOT bridge) labeled "R1" from the backside of the board, car dock is no longer turned on. Its an 10k resister that id's the car charger. Removing that will stop car dock from launching period. This does not affect anything else other than Car Dock Mode.
We are still testing and trying to figuring it out this. But as it stands now, there is nothing else on this board that would cause power loss. It has to be a combination of GPS (large power draw alone) + Data (Pandora) + Car Dock automatically turning on WiFi (another large power draw). WHY WiFi is turned ON in Car Dock mode, I have NO idea. Last thing I want ON when driving. :? But having those all on is drawing more currant than is being provided with a full 1A being supplied.
As one last note, most off the shelf (generic) car charges only provide 500mA's, which is absolutely NOT enough power to charge while GPS + Data + WiFe searching to charge the phone. Make sure when you purchase a charger/adapter, make sure you see the output = 5v - 1A.

Someone at Android forums has already done the research on this and came up with the best fix for the official dock as far as the charging goes. Also, he tests different car chargers and gives an opinion on which one charges the best. A very well done thread. Worth the read.

I used that thread to move forward on modding my dock. I failed shorting the pins after a drip of solder shorted ALL the pins together (whoops), but I went with another poster's method of drilling a hole for the cord to go straight to the phone. It ended up clean and simple. It was a pain in the ass to plug in the micro to the back of the dock anyway.
FYI, my experience has been that the phone overheats pretty quick (120F) with screen on, navi running, and a 1A charger providing juice. The good news is that it clears a good 400mA which provides a solid positive charge. Screen off and navi running gets rid of the heat issue for me.
I wanted a wireless charger in my car. After splicing the Nokia Charging plate cable into a 12V plug, a little super glue, strong magnets, and Velcro I have one that works well and looks cool.

Simple and effective! Even works over bumps. I just have to put something between the magnets to prevent slippage because they are really polished.
I like the magnet idea. Will be borrowing that from you once my plates come in a couple days. Not sure where I'm putting it though, don't want mine on the dash. Will most likely go in the cup holder.

I also have the Nokia DT-900 and what is says on the back is that it's input is 12v, 750mA
There's nothing about output current. What we know about wireless charging right now is that it delivers about a 21% battery increase per hour. With our 2050mAh battery that's about 430mAh charge from the wireless charger. Obviously this is not going to be as fast as the fast(1000mAh) car chargers or most wall chargers, but we sacrifice for the convenience I guess.

That may be true of the AC adapter part of the charger, it takes in 120v/.3a and outputs 12v/.75a to the wireless charger which uses the 12v/.75a to run.

I'm doubtful that we'll see that product for our phones, just because of the power required to run it. If the nokia charger is using 12v, 750mA to push 430mAh to our 5v batteries, then we're looking at quite a power loss from the wireless charging process. I'm thinking it would take quite a battery to keep up with that loss and give us an effective charging bump. I hope I'm wrong though.

ok fine who ever makes it can use the charging port like the one on the Galaxy s3 juice pack but damn it makes the galaxy huge and slippery. I might just diy one up using a silicon/rubber case and parts from a mophie battery back

I might have it all wrong, I'm not savvy enough say either way. We'll see if someone brings one to market.
Hey I had a question about that mod. I did something similar way back when I had an old (original) Droid Incredible. However, when I attached the magnets (neodynium ones) the phone's accelerometers seemed to freeze up (locking in the current orientation), and the compass failed (as might be expected). None of this was permanent, and my solution was to just use a metal plate on the back of my case and magnets behind my car dashboard (my system was completely hidden).
I was wondering if magnets on the back of the DNA have a similar effect. (I'd try it myself but I just got my phone today!)

no need to rubberize anything, a small lip or ridge on the bottom of the charger would be suffice to keep the phone from falling off, it would also make it easier to align the phone with the magnets you would just align your phone with the lip and let it snap in place.
Just an update here. I was an idiot and was trying to melt the magnets into the case I have forgetting that heat weakens magnets so now I am waiting on my ones I ordered. Anyone know where to get such magnets locally? They worked fine the first time and I weakened them with the heat by accident, so no need for the rubberized stuffs.
Either way. I have not noticed any side effects from the magnets and the phone has been working just fine with them. And I used this for my drive home from work with BT and GPS on and streaming music over BT and it was still getting 250+ma on the battery widget.
I know we can't easily open the Tab 2 7" - but what if I took the charging cable, snipped it off, connected it to a wireless receiver and hid that in a silicone case?
I bought my tab as a replacement for my Pronto remote - and i want to be able to easy charge it without needing 2 hands to dock and undock - i figure it is more likely to be left charging.
Since the tab can charge off a pc at 500mah - i should be able to charge it this way, right? Thoughts?

So I did this quick mod because i use the tab 2 in the living room as a TV remote with TouchSquid software. I was worried about the charging cable falling behind furniture or the device not getting plugged in.
The new phones all have contacts in the battery compartment where you can lay in one of the wireless receivers, but the teardown pics for the tab 2 don't show anything like this, so i took the safe approach and modified a samsung cable. Unfortunately I can't tuck this inside, and I was worried about trying to tap into the charging circuitry inside, so I am stuck with the plug on the right.
I created a bigger platform for the wireless transmitter too - the sides are higher so the tab 2 and its slight bump on the back fit down against the charging pad. And since the charging pad is now the same size, there is no problem with incorrect positioning.
So since the principle behind wireless charging is inductance, does this cause any heat? If so, how much, do you have an IR thermometer to measure?
I'd like to do this, but i have an otterbox defender case, which is sealed pretty good. I'd be worried about heat build up. Can you post a link as to how you did this?

It gets warm, but not hot. No warmer then a phone that is plugged in or is in use. I have not actually measured the temperature difference as it doesn't matter to me, and because the charging rate is relatively low (as registered by the the tablet) is low at about 500 ma, and the charging plate and coil are rated at under 1 amp. there is not the opportunity for that much heat anyway.
I am not sure what links you are looking for, I think the pics are pretty self explanatory. I bought the transmitter,receiver and cable off ebay - the QI receiver is for a Note 2. I cut the cable, attached red and black wires to the receiver after verifying polarity of receiver with an voltmeter. Green and white wires were soldered together and that was it.
The platform for the transmitter is a block of wood painted black, with a routed area for the transmitter.

I am looking for a total, complete, DIY inductance charger. Completely built from scratch. I was hoping to find some info on making one from the ground up, not just simply modifying a current charger to work with our tabs.
I have found some info on building such a charger, but not specifically for our tab. My reason is because 1. I'm a cheapskate and 2. I like doing things like this.
Modifying a charger from another device is going to be easiest I think, since I haven't found anything specifically for our tabs like I had mentioned.

My reason for off the shelf parts is re-use. The QI standard seems to be the winner. So I can always reuse the charging base with another phone and the receiver and cable were less then $15. I am not sure you could build your own for cheaper unless someone gives away some old palm parts.

Hey this is interesting mod if it work Im in and as for the connecting of the receiver to the batt have you open the back cover and figure out which wire it should be connected to? heres the picture.

Yeah I have seen the pics. The problem is that chargers don't plug directly into batteries. And if you did wire it directly to the battery or USB port, what happens when you plug in a USB cable? Do you energize the charging receiver? Someone more versed in electronics would need to figure out how to do this. The phones have dedicated contacts for the wireless charger.

Thanks for the good info, but my mod is done. And no one really takes into account what happens when USB port is in use.
Or if you try to charge both ways at one time.

I want a thread where people could post if they have problems of slow charging with their docks/magnetic plugs. Important is to mention what ROM/Kernel you use and where they bought the charger. Also don't forget to mention what wallcharger you use, as most dock/cable come with USB connector only.

i bought this dock from Ebay for 9 bucks.
Using Stock .402 Firmware with some xposed modules and Doomkernel v09
Official 1.5A Sony Wallcharger for europe and the same Cable into the MicroUSB port!
it takes around 7hours to charge from 1% to 75% ! Way longer than via microUSB port on the phone.

I want an other option that says "Yes I have a magnetic charger but the plug got torn off by the magnet". Other than that when it actually worked it was really fast.

I've the Sony dock, it's charging fast whatever the charger.
I've a magnetic cable/plug (sony is written on it but I think it's actually noname), it's charging slow with the stock charger (1.5A), but with 2A chagers (I've 2 differents ones), it's quite fast.
I should do timed experiments but I'm too lazy
Just got the sony dock and have a slim case. The magnet is too weak and the dock won't allow it to connect to my phone. It's very shallow also so the phone falls back.
I also got a cheap ebay dk36 knockoff. It seems to charge normally but I haven't timed it yet.
With my 1.8A blackberry charger I believe my phone charged via USB direct from 15%-97% in about 2.5hrs. Is that normal?
When my battery runs down I'll check how long it takes to do the same on my knockoff dock and let you guys know.
My knockoff looks legit though. I have the dk31 official dock and the plastic inserts fit like a glove. I want to say I have an oem knockoff just without branding. 'Twas a pretty good knockoff for $8

Okay so I plugged my Blackberry 1.8A charger into my knockoff dock today and went from 13%-98% in 2.5 hours so it looks like the dock I bought is not as crappy as the OP's lol. Look like mine is just a pass thru for the charging cable which is perfect. Like I said I also have the OEM DK-31 and my knockoff is identical in build quality to the OEM part which leads me to think I got just an unbranded Sony dock. Another thing I noticed is that the DK-30, 31 seem to all be the exact same minus the little insert they include with each one. The DK-36 is like the others but has no built in usb cable which I prefer because then the cables I actually have are what control the power I'm sending to the dock.

I had the powermod and it was slightly too small for my car outlet so if you bumped it then it would stop charging. I think I had a lemon but anyway I bought the incipio one and haven't looked back
Also, can I use any USB cable to receive the turbo charge? I'd hate to keep hauling around cables from my house back into my car.

Can you post a picture of the cable? Do they sell it separately? I was going to buy that one but it was hard to find back when I got my original QC 2.0 charger on early December.

That's not a quick charge 2.0 charger its just a regular car charger.

I use this one as well. Any USB cable will work. I tried an old ASUS cable with my wife's Note 4 and it said a quick charger was enabled. That flat gray cable it comes with is really stiff and I drive a manual so it was always getting in my way when shifting. I switched to an old USB cable I have that's more floppy.
This doesn't sit flush with the port though even though the design makes it kind of look like it does. It sticks out about a centimeter or so. It would be super hard to get out of the vehicle if it sat flush.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but does anyone know a very good quick charge 2.0 car charger with at least 2 USB ports? One port could be quick charge 2.0 and the other port could be normal or whatever.

I wanted to get the Ventev dashport charger, but they seem to be out everywhere, or ridiculously expensive in the places that do have them.
I want to try and get one thats as flush with the socket as possible, because theres already very little room in that spot in my car.
