How to disable Air Command - Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 Questions & Answers

I would like to disable Air Command in order to make the s pen button available to apps. I have found the air command settings, but there does not seem to be an option to disable it altogether. If I delete all the shortcuts and then press the button, it appears with a "helpful" tip to use the s pen >detachment settings to disable it. But there is no such section, presumably because the pen cannot be inserted into this tablet.
Is there truly no way to disable Air Command?
Can anyone either confirm to problem or tell me what I am missing?
Edit: Here are some screenshots illustrating the problem: https://goo.gl/photos/EhQLgH1Kiear3vzP8

Doesn't look like there is a way to disable it completely (even in the System Apps menu). But the button is available to use when use in apps as an eraser (a la Microsoft Word) even with Air Command enabled if you hold it. It seems like Air Command doesn't pop up if you long press the button instead of a short click.
Hope this helps.

Thank you. I have discovered this, and that it also works if you touch the screen with the pen before releasing it. (It occurs to me that may be more about the extra time it takes to do that than the touch).
When I began trying to disable Air Command, I was using an app with broken button support. Now that I understand that Air Command does not interfere with the use of the button in apps I am happy to leave it enabled.
Frank.

I'm a bit late to this post, but I wanted to let you know there is a way around that. I was able to disable it by freezing it in titanium (pretty sure that feature requires root, so there is your one catch.) You won't be able to disable it from your regular app settings as samsung doesn't allow this. Just search air in titanium and you should see it.
When I found this fix I was overcome with joy and satisfaction. I F*cking hate air command, and especially hate gimmicks that are forced on the end user. The button has so many other uses in drawing apps, but those uses get nerfed by having an annoying popup come up unless you long press. Samsung should have enabled air command as a long press event.

"BK package disabler" app works fine with me. Im using Galaxy Tab 10.1 with S Pen. This app can disable only the air command feature while enabling other in-app functions that are using s pen button. The "Air Command" app is under the "System" tab in the app. No rooting required. One thing is you have to buy the app but the price is cheap and it is worth the money!

Dude, thanks

These just require that you use S Pen. This app only shows the menu.

I updated the app:
1) Scrapbooker - it requires S Pen. You can to select are with S Pen if you click this action.
2) Pen Window now whould work.
Also you can now put this shortcut to Multiwindow menu.
I still have one question for Note 10.1 users. If you set S Pen detach action to None in Android settings does this app still open Air Command properly for you?

Thanks. I still don't get why I have a bunch of comments in Play Store that it does nothing on Note 10.1
Very nice shortcut app....

So is anyone having this issue, that app does not start Air Command? Anyone tried it on LTE model?
seriously.. it's weird.. I read the comments on play store and i don;t know why people with note 10.1 2014 are saying that it is not working. I have p605(LTE) model and for me it works like it should. Hmm.. Is it possible that it works because i'm rooted...?? I don't think so.. but...
I have p600 wifi only and the shortcut works fine. I haven't been able to get the Themed air command versions to work yet. Wally3614 is already making it for Note 3, (which I also have and it works perfect as does this shortcut app) and he is attempting to get testers on Note 10.1 2014 at my request to port....

I'm having that issue after getting the app from your thread. Do I just install the app and start it up or am I missing something? When I click the icon, nothing happens. I'm rooted on p600.

Yes you should just start the app and it is supposed to display Air Command on bottom right.
This apps sets you spen detach action to Air Command, sends SPen detach event and then restores old detach action. Normally you don't need to adjust any of your settings. But since it does not work could you try a few things:
1) Do you have S Pen detach action?
2) Try setting it manually to S Pen detach and see if app works then?
I will try to fix it when I understand how it fails.

I followed your instructions and tried setting pen detachment options to "none" as well as trying it with "air command". I also tried it both with the pen attached and detached. However, none of these seemed to work. For the Spen options, i have all of them checked and all of them turned on.
The only notification I get when I press the icon for the app is that it says "S-pen has been detached" at the top. I'll be happy to try anything else if you need.

But if you select Air Command for detach and actually detach S Pen it properly triggers Air Command?
How many options do you have in Pen Detachment options? Is it 3: Note, Action Memo, Air Command?
Not exactly what you've asked for, but tested in my note 2 with Phoenix ROM (4.3) and it worked flawlessly.
I can see potential on this app. Is there someway to customize the air view menu?

Yes, if I select air command and then actually detach the Spen afterwards, then it triggers the command. But without detaching the pen, nothing comes up. Under pen detachment i have None, action memo, and Air command.
Edit: Oh, I don't think I made it clear. It pops up when I take the Spen out only when I have it set to air command. If set to none, then nothing pops up either way.

So there's BK package disabler for sale in the Play Store. I think there's a specific one for Samsung. Or if you have a little patience and basic Linux understanding, then you can follow these directions
https://github.com/GoldenKappa/notSABS
It's kind of a lot to go through just to disable Air Command, but but neither alternative requires root. I prefer does the notsabs method just because I was able to obtain my own Knox SDK license. BK package disabler kept having their license revoked. They refunded me my money but still it was a pain. And you have to use a decompiler for notsabs and change the name of the file so that you're not requesting a license for an app they've already issued a license for, so it is a little tedious but it didn't take more than 30 minutes for the whole process. The instructions on the link I provided are very concise and clear. And it has the added benefit of being a general ad blocker as well. I just happened to use it to disable Air Command. I wish it would work with automate and allow you to pass arguments and enable it only when using art apps or something, but alas it simply has to be turned off or on manually. Why on Earth Samsung insist that everyone wants to use that button for Air Command and nothing else this is ridiculous. It's kind of like the new Bixby button on the damn S9 and note 9
If you have root, just using the shell script "pm disable whatever.package.name.AirCommand.has" with root privileges is all you need.
You can't do it officially
I physically removed the button in the end. Levered it off with a pin
Edit: just wanted to note, I can still use the button if I want this way. The button itself is in two layers, obviously I've just removed the top one I kept pressing by accident. But that just presses a pressure button deeper in the pen. It's still accessible... But I only recommend this if you're very, very sure! I was very sure. I don't like the pen much as it is!

Disable S pen's 'hold button and double tap to take quick note' feature

Hello,
Does anyone know what package/service is responsible for the behavior mentioned in the title?
I have package disabler pro installed and I've already dealt with the air command service, now the only thing in the way is this "feature".
Thank you!

Thank you for your reply!
Yes, that does indeed work, however it stops notes from working altogether.
But all I want is to disable the shortcut because it keeps popping up a new note WHILE I'm using notes!
So I have to keep closing the damn thing.
You could use Xposed Edge Pro (which is what I use) or possibly Tasker to have the shell command (pm enable / disable package name of Samsung Notes) executed whenever the app you need the button in is open (via the app state option in Xposded Edge Pro). That worked well for me.
i use pentastic to customize the shortcut and the app "Do Nothing" to have a suitable target.
Its simple....just deny the permision to appear on top....it didnt compromise any other feature too...

Disable samsung notes popup when double tapping s-pen with button pressed?

So every time I (accidentaly) double tap the screen with the s-pen with the button on it pressed I get this s-notes dialog popup allowing me to take notes. As this usually happens when I'm erasing something in a different app it is quite annoying... Can't seem to find the setting causing this though (closest is the double tep with button pressed for screen off notations, but disabling that doesn't work).
I also do use S-note so don't want to disable it completely...
Anyone with a clue?
I too am looking for the solution.

Question Some gripes perhaps someone can help with...

Other than the lack of notifications due to the agreesive app killing, I have these outstanding gripes I'd love some advice on please:
1. Double tap power button - Is it possible to customize the power button at all? Can I launch the torch for example when I double click?
2. Global Search languageS - So far this always shows as Chinese, would love for it to be English...
3. Do Not Disturb light mode on exit - When the phone exits do not disturb it sets the theme to light, I'd prefer it to always stay as dark.
4. In gesture mode I cannot see a way to hide the keyboard - I use Gboard. Also. I really like the stock keyboard, but I cannot figure out how to default it to qwerty English when it shows - it initially shows a split Chinese T9 type keyboard and I have to press a (Chinese) button to switch it every time...
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I've solved #3 by scheduling DND using Breeno Shortcuts and setting the theme to dark explicitly after turning DND off
I came here to ask specifically about #1. This is driving me nuts that this phone is so uncustomizable!
Does Double pressing the power button open the camera, if not what does it actually do?
Currently it opens Oppos wallet. I uninstalled that using an adb command, so now it just turns the screen on/off. Holding it down gives you the option to restart/shutdown or use Google Pay (I installed that instead)
Wow there are some major shortfalls I did not know about before ordering. I am probably just going to return it for a refund. Seems like all the messing around is far too hard to get it just to run like I want it to.
I use the Double press to open the camera all the time.
Yeah, lots of limited functionality. Spent all day on it yesterday removing bloatware and it feels lovely now, but can't change the damn hotkeys... Pain in the bum!

Thank you
I can't remember the command. Download APK Extractor and scroll down to wallet to find the package name. Something like 'com.coloros.wallet' or something (it probably won't be that). Then follow this guide on how to uninstall the app:
