Skin to work with the Crashguard - Samsung Galaxy S8 Accessories

I have a decalgirl skin on the back of my S8. I was concerned about the fit and adhesive but really like the pattern. It wasn't a big deal with my Samsung case but when I install the rhinoshield it lifts and crinkles. If I can't have something with art I want a clear protector. Has anyone had experience using Slickwraps, GhostArmour or any other with a bumper?
I like DBrand products but they will not work for me in this case because they do not have a clear version. I also really like this bumper it fits well.

I had the same exact problem; I also used decal girl's. I contacted rhino shield and they stated they were sorry but do not take any responsibility for decal damage and they only warranty their actual own back skin. I also contacted decal girls and they also stated they were sorry and were going to send me another one but to wait 24 hours before trying to put the case on. When the decal comes in I'm going to try out the hair dryer method.

I never thought of contacting decal girl; I didn't expect anything from rhinoshield. I ordered a slickwrap and will see if the decal sticks better to it than the glass. I think the decalgirl is a little small.

Yea I did notice the decal girl one was shorter on top and the bottom when I put it on

[Q] Skinomi Skin Help

I have the Black Carbon Fiber back skin and clear screen protector. I put the Carbon Fiber piece on and it looks great. Here is the problem. I misread the instructions and used the fluid on the back skin and they state later in the instructions to not use fluid to put on that part. There is not much fluid in their little spray bottle and it was used up on the back skin. I have no more to be able to put on the screen protector. Yeah stupid I know. Anyone know what their solution is? Or is it better to wait until they respond to my email and either purchase some more or will zagg solution work?
They used to not even supply the solution. They would just say use a solution of water and a tiny bit of liquid soap... I think that would be fine
You aren't suppose to put water on the back.
However I hope you know the solution is basically water and a bit of soap or shampoo I believe.
You can easily do this yourself.

Yeah I realize not to put the solution on the Carbon Fiber part now. Got worried after I realized that your not supposed to wet the Carbon Fiber piece and took it back off. I did not want to chance any damage to the tablet itself. The front pieces of Carbon Fiber trim went on without water. There was still a lot of moisture on the back which I dried off cleaned up. I added a little water to the original spray bottle and shook it up and could see there must be some residual of the soap/shampoo still there and attempted the screen protector. With the trim pieces of the Carbon Fiber on the front I could not get the screen protector to lay down on the screen decent. Worried that I would have excess water near those parts and where the screen joined the body I took it off cleaned it up and said screw it. If anyone puts these on in the future put the screen protector down before the trim pieces on the sides. You will save yourself alot of grief and worry.
Out of curiosity, how's the feel of the skin across the back of the tablet? Does it seem to be sticking well?
I've been going on back and fourth on getting a Skinomi but with the textured back on the Transformer I wasn't sure how it would look or how well it would apply.

It actually sticks well and if you've ever felt carbon fiber skins before it feels pretty much the same. It has a nice texture an grip.
The solution is 90% water, mixed with a little bit of soap. I use to work at Ghost Armor.

Thanks for the input. I've got a hardback sleeve I like (Built NY "Hoodie" 10 inch) but having that next level of protection from scratches and scuffs will be nice. I'm going for dark wood to match my Evo.
I'd really something akin to the OtterBox commuter series but since they're not going to be making one for the Transformer I'll go with the skin/sleeve combo for now.
skinomi claims that all you have to do is add water to the bottle, the leftover residue should still be enough for a good mixture.

Glossy plastic

I've had my Mist Blue XC for less than 3 days. I've done nothing but lay it on flat surfaces being very careful with it until a case I ordered arrives. Now I noticed there are a ton of fine scratches on the back of the phone.
Brilliant move choosing to use glossy plastic on this thing, Sony...
Sorry to hear that, what case did you order ( link please) are there any third party cases , beside the original ones ?
Can you please post photos of the scratch? Probably have to use screen protector on both sides. And then use a case
Hard to shoot the scratches. They are really fine scratches on the gloss coat I assume.
I ordered this cheap case on Amazon until something better comes out.

Pictures have been updated on the item now. Doesn't look like the previously advertised case (top and bottom edges are open). I ordered one, and I'm not impressed the item changed.
Yeah, Not happy they changed the images but it will do until something better comes out.

yeah... it does seem to scratch rather a bit too easily. At least (so far on mine) the screen doesn't have the same scratchability as the back:fingers-crossed: . Maybe sony will release some carnauba based polish when support folks start suggesting that the little fine scratches will just buff out...
so anyone could get a glass panel for the back of this phone? anything to put there might do the job actually
Glossy plastic is highly underrated. It looks good and is light and cheap. Won't shatter like glass, less slippery than metal, and the inevitable scratches are...quickly and cheaply repaired to bring the surface to like new condition. How? take a minute to apply a little wax polish with a soft cloth and rub until dry.
I have used Novus Fine Scratch Remover (#2), but I would think car wax would work just as well. I removed some marred patches from when I dropped the phone on hardwood floor and it skidded a bit, and not only did those patches disappear, but so did the fine scratches.
I don't think this would be wise for the screen, however, as it would probably harm the oleophobic coating.
This is why I put stickers on the back (and eventually sides) to protect the phone, and also make it less slippery in my hands, you can see some photos here:

TETDED Slim Leather Case

A cautionary tale for those who have or are looking at the Tetded/TETDED slim leather case on eBay or elsewhere. I have had this case for about a month and it has been great - snug, nice leather and best of all a nice slim fit, similar to the Apple leather case for the iPhone. Today I took the case off to kind of just take a look at the phone and wipe away any schmutz and much to my chagrin, noticed some wear marks on the glass (top of the phone). While faint and kind of hard to notice due to the glass being shiny, it has wear marks nonetheless. I sent a message to the seller on eBay who asked for pictures of the wear, which will be tricky to take, like I said, because they are both faint and the glass is shiny.
I like the case a lot and would easily recommend it to someone looking for this style of case, but after noticing this...I don't think a case should leave marks on your phone.
I have a full skin on my pixel. Front and back. Do you think there is enough give in the case to fit over a skin?

It would be pretty damn tight.
Could you shield the glass with some carefully-cut-out plastic kitchen wrap before putting it in the case? (There's probably a better kind of plastic film to use, but that's the first one that came to mind.)

Thanks for the warning. I've been eyeing this case. Guess I should stop.
I had an orange version of this case, cleaned it with leather cleaner and the dye came off! I love a nice premium leather case, but this isn't it in my book.
Just sad we cannot get a high quality slim leather case, that isn't a wallet or folds out into a stupid origami swan or something. If the Pixel is selling as well as we are led to believe, I am surprised more folks aren't making them.

More likely is that leather cases are not very popular now and they take a lot more production to make compared to a molded case. Less demand, more production costs means less availability.
I have the exact same case, and have had mine on for about a month as well, maybe slightly longer.
Just checked the back of mine and it's fine - totally scratch free and perfect under the case. I can't see how this case would damage the back of the phone as it's backed with a thin layer of foam.
Maybe some crud got stuck in between the case and the back?

Buyer BEWARE: Rhinoshield crash guard and customer service.

Hello
I wanted to let the community know the hassle I went through with this company. I've had the rhino shield for the S7 and loved it. I bought the first one through Amazon but had a defect and promptly returned it. No hassle no questions asked. I eventually had another go and ordered another one; it was perfect.
However with the S8 it has only been a hassle. I made the mistake by ordering it through their website. Unbeknownst to me the S8 rhino shield only had problems. First, the bumper does not fit with decal girl skins; I believe reading other threads slick wrap skins and Dbrand skins do not work neither. I tried decal girl twice.
The sides of the case are loose; they do not hold the case properly. When you grip the phone the case's edge moves out of place causing an awkward hold. How this protects the phone I don't know. At this point I decided to return the case.
Finally customer service. I contact Rhinoshield and they gave me the run around for two weeks. Finally after telling them bluntly I wanted a refund they stated they will not give me a shipping label and I have to pay out of my own pocket. They also stated I should buy insurance and shipping tracking because if the package somehow got lost they would not cover me.
TLDR: this case does not fit correctly. Customer service is subpar. Buy from Amazon to have no hassle and get a full refund.
I'm not the only one there are numerous threads on reddit and xda regarding their customer service and their product.
I would agree with everything you said. I loved the crashguard for my Nexus 6P. The Samsung S8 Crashguard is disappointing. I had a dbrand skin that got ruined by the case. I just got the honeycomb wrap by Slickwraps to replace it and it also started to lift. The sides are loose and I still find it slippery to hold. I also made the mistake of ordering it through their website so we'll see if I get the run around. Do not by the crashguard or their tempered glass screen protector. Save your money!
I've heard that they revised the bumper to be tighter. I just got one a week ago and don't see it being loose as the videos I've see online. I've heard warnings that it wouldn't be compatible with skins but decided to take the risk and go ahead and get one.
Just applied one from Slickwraps and looks great. After putting the Rhinoshield back on the phone, it creased the corners and top/bottom edges a little. Took off the Rhinoshield and used a heatgun to iron out the creases and tried again. Corners looked fine but the top/bottom edges still had some creases. Using a heat gun, ironed out the edges with the Rhinoshield on. Overall, I'm pleased with the result. You can see it a little where it's creased but makes it look like it's part of the Rhinoshield.
Just wanted to throw this out there for people who are googling using Rhinoshield with skins. YMMV but I'm very satisfied by how it turned out for me. I'll post back if I have any problems with it down the road.
Ironically I did hear about this "revised" version and actually ordered it a couple days ago to test out. I ended up ordering it through Amazon instead of directly through them so I didn't have to deal with their BS return policy.
Do you have any pictures with the slick wrap?
i have the latest one and i must say that i am 80% happy. no loose or anything. i have a dbrand skin which it pushes it a bit at the bottom of the phone but nothing TOO serious. i can deal with it.
in general i am pleased with if even though it makes it bulky and hides the phone's beauty. if you want to be upset with them.... be upset for their screen protector which sucks.

OP5 dBrand skins

On Jul 3rd I pre-ordered two dBrand skins for my OP5 and they arrived on Jul 6th. The two skins were the Mahogany wood (back and camera lens cover) and the Hyperblack Titanium (back with red camera lens cover and red 1+ logo). Even though I wanted to add the front Mahogany skins the fact that I've also ordered the Ozly tpsp screen protector made me realized I'd have issues whenever I needed to replace the screen cover.
Attached are pictures of both skins with accessories un-applied and the Mahogany skins applied including the camera lens cover. Notice that the two Mahogany skins have different wood patterns. Running your finger over each skin I realized that the Mahogany adds almost no additional grip to the slippery naked OP5 while the Hyperblack Titanium skin has more texture which I believed would add more grip. This is not to say that once applied the Mahogany skin did not reduce the overall slipper feel of a naked OP5, as it did. In the future I'll likely try the Hyperblack Titanium but right now I really like the Mahogany's overall look the best.
I still bought a cheap clear plastic case which is currently on a slow boat from China. I'll use it when I'm going someplace where accidents are more likely such as camping or a party. These skins are so thin that I don't anticipate putting the case on to be an issue.
This is the first time I've every bought or applied a skin as I've previously only gone with bumper cases. Over all I think the application went well but I certainly don't have the corner flaps applied as well as seen on dBrand's OP5 application video. Most definitely you need a hairdryer during application as I had a bubble under the skin and heating that section and the bubble's path to the outside saved having to peal the skin off to start again. It works much like you push bubbles out from a clear plastic screen protector. Getting the initial bottom alignment applied properly is the key to the rest of the application. Mess that up and you alignment issues multiply. Heating and stretching the skin is dangerous and only helps with the tiniest of misalignment.
The dBrands fit overall and specifically around the buttons is as perfect as a mass produced item can be. In conclusion, if you choose to use a skin you'd be hard pressed to find a brand with a more accurate fit.
P.S. For grip the Carbon Fiber would likely be your best bet but I thought it was butt ugly so went another way.
Edit: Added top, bottom, right and left side pictures.
Hyperblack comes along with the white 1+ logo? Or is it just the packaging design?
I am thinking of buying Black Dragon.
Usually, when is the Dbrand Sale? Any idea?
Thanks

No, what appears on the Hyperblack picture as a white 1+ logo is just the skin's backing tape. The Hyperblack I picked has a cut out of the 1+ logo then I ordered the red colored logo cut out to fill in the skin's logo cut out. On the Mahogany skin I chose not to have any 1+ logo so the skin was solid (no logo cut out at all). The Black Dragon skin was already available when I purchased my skins. I was tempted to get that instead of the Hyperblack.
I have no idea when there will be a sale. I didn't feel the price was too excessive. In fact I would have only bought the Mahogany at this time but the added $5 for shipping meant that a second skin only cost me an extra $6 and the shipping on both skins became free. That's much like how Amazon prices small items to be just under the free shipping costs to get you to buy one more item. In this case I went for it as a Hyperblack skin also tempted me.
I just got the black dragon skin with orange logo and camera cutout. I previously used the titanium and the hyperblack on my Nexus 6p and I can say that the dragon skin has a very similar texture than the hyperblack. IN terms of looks, I have to say that it looks similar to the hyperblack except for the cracked look/texture and the slight silver highlights in certain areas. All in all, I think it looks amazing on this device.
Im looking to grab one of the Mah Wood one and having it under my Orzly flexi case. It looks pretty amazing with the wood skin. Would you be able to show off the sides of the phone? I would love to see the fit on the sides
dBrand sure do make some precision skins! Let us know once you installed them!
Here is mine! Just finished. Marble with cement logo

Looking good!! I've ordered mine but with red logo cutout. Is there good grip with the black dragon skin? My only quirk with this device so far is how slippy the back is and was hoping the black dragon skin would sort that out for me..

I don't trust myself either!! Thinking of getting one of the rhinoshield bumpers so I can keep it looking nice, on the back at least :victory: Hopefully that along with the tempered glass SP I have one will protect it.. and so long as the skin is grippy I hopefully shouldn't drop it.

Just be careful with that combo on a Rhino Shield. they can rip off Tempered glass and the cases lately have been so tight getting them on with even a skin on is really hard and taking it off is even worse. I damaged my OP3 trying to get the Rhino Shield off when using a skin. best results is to cut the skin so it doesn't go up and down the sides or corners of the phone.
I still remember ordering that case there was no warning on the prouduct page about it not working with tempered glass and when I complianed and got nowhere a sudden disclaimer went up :/

It definitely has some texture that helps the phone be less slippery but not as much as I expected. But it certainly help add a decent amount of grip, especially on the sides of the phone which are very thin and rounded.

Ye my mate was saying the RhinoShield on his OP3t is way too tight and difficult to get off. I saw one on a S8 and looks a fair bit looser, hoping it's a bit looser on the OP5 and fits.
Thanks for the heads up though:good:
