Updating LS990 ZV4 4.4.2 - Procedure? - Sprint LG G3

Forgive a rather newbie question - been out of the game for a few years as I changed industries for a while. I'm back in IT and need to get my G3 all nice and current. It's not rooted at the moment and is running 4.4.2 - I believe fairly stock. I really love this phone and don't want to brick it and have to buy another so I'm just looking for a quick confirmation that updating it will be pretty straight forward. Getting it rooted would be nice but likely not required for my use.
Thanks for any quick tips you guys can provide and again my thanks.
-Ross

Well I suppose I'll answer my own question as it was rather easy. Here's what I did starting from 4.4.2 (stock)
- Reset device using Settings
- Installed Stump Root and rooted (via brute force)
- Installed TWRP
- Downloaded the unofficial CM 14.1 ROM and Gapps (I did the stock download)
- Flashed TWRP recovery and rebooted into recovery
- Wiped partitions (not MicroUSB or storage)
- Flashed the ROM and GApps
- Done!!
So far all seems to be working fantastic, looking to root it now (which might not be possible...)

If you TWRP working and flashed rom and gapps. Your rooted. Check developer options to enable root. If not there then find magisk zip and mr bump zip. Flash magisk then mr bump.

Uh, yeah, as I said in my steps I rooted using Stump Root so was definitely rooted before TWRP....

Then don't contradict yourself....

Sorry, seems we're misunderstanding each other - let me be crystal clear so you won't be confused any longer. Just like the steps say:
- I rooted 4.4.2 to get TWRP installed
- Flashed CM 14.1
- No longer have root
Does that make sense now? I suppose this is what I get for trying to answer my own question in case others are gonna do the same, should have known better I suppose...

Really...the first post explained exactly what you needed to. Then you want to complain about the answer and call me an @##hole. Crawl back under your rock, better yet go back to stock and stay there.

[Q] Noob question about rooting and OS's

I rooted my NT back in Dec. 2011 when I bought it, using instructions from this forum. (thank you!) I also used the fix to stop it from automatically getting the B&N updates.
I've been happy with the NT as it is now, but I'd like to be able to run things like Xbox Smartglass, and I see that we can use CM10 on the NT.
My questions are "should I? and can I?" Would I have to take the NT back to stock and then start over? Boot from SD or root? Is this even something a noob should be attempting?
As long as it's rooted, no you shouldn't have to take it to bone stock.
Do you already have a custom recovery installed? If so, it's super easy. If not, follow the instructions in the development forum on how to flash a custom recovery. Keep in mind you need CWM 6+ or TWRP 2.2+ (I think, never used twrp) to flash a jellybean rom.
Should you? Totally up to you. As long as you don't mess with the touch firmware (don't install 5 touch) then you can always go back to where you are now.
Every rom has some issues. I haven't found a single one that's issue free. Most of the newer ones run without any major issues.

TWRP 2.1.3 will handle ICS and JB ROMS... BUT WAIT! If you plan to update the touchpad firmware (which I highly recommend) and use one of the 5 touchpoint ROMS, make sure you are using CWM, not TWRP! Once you update the firmware, you won't be able to use TWRP (that is, you can still boot to recovery, and TWRP will load without problems, but it won't register any touches on the screen...)
This thread has the updated version of CWM, and will (eventually) have a link to the updated version of TWRP, once it's ready for prime time.

There are a few excellent threads in the General forum that are a really good place to start. Here are three to start with that should give you a good grounding on what's going on when you root and flash your tablet, and step-by-step instructions on how to do it:

Brand Spankin' New Android User - Trying to Install Audio Mod

I've already rooted my Lg G3 with Stumproot. But, now im trying to install eXtremebeats Studio Mod..
I know this will make the battery run out quicker but I still have a few questions about installing this mod
- Do I need to do a backup prior to installing? If yes, how?
- Any ballpark on how much quicker the battery will be sucked?
- How do I install for a total noobie? No clue how to mount or whatever it means.

I'm pretty sure that mod requires a working custom recovery which we don't have yet. We currently don't have a way to make a backup easily and no reliable way to flash zips. I suppose you might be able to sideload the zip but if it messes something up the only way to get your phone working again would be to use the LG Flash tool to flash all the way back to stock.
At this point I would would reccomend waiting until we get some sort of custom recovery before anyone tries to flash anything.

Like already stated above, you'd need a Custom recovery to flash that mod which unless you have a TMobile G3... We don't have.
I believe somewhere on here there is a working version of DSP Manager that works with our phones, maybe try looking into that.
If you're new to all this rooting and modding I suggest you do a lot of reading before you try anything. Without a custom recovery and a nandroid ( backup ) to fall back on you run the risk of having to flash your phone back to stock using the lg flash tool. You'd end up starting over from scratch at that point which can be very annoying depending on how much you've already nodded your phone plus you'd lose all your data etc...
makes sense, thank you for the explanation both of you guys

I've heard that Viper4Android sucks out a lot of battery and that is the reason I preferred installing a different sound mod. Plus I liked some of the sound processing that eXtremebeats had to offer. So, this leads me to a few more questions for good sound using V4A:
- Does Viper4Android suck out battery only when music is being played or does it suck out battery all the time?
- Is the amount of difference it has on the battery poor? (I listen to music for an hour or two at a time)
- How's the audio rendering? I'm read that the XHifi mod is for people with poor sources but all my sources are 320kbps AT LEAST. So does this mean the FX is for me and does it also mean the FX which I turn on when playing will make a difference? (obviously EQ ones will)
- Is it easy to uninstall? (Say I'm not happy with battery life (important), will it be easy to uninstall the app?)
There is the Chinese recovery apk in the general forum. Works great for me. I flashed the Pure Audio mod myself.

Although that recovery may have it's uses as far as flashing various zips... It's not really a recovery. You can't restore a backup and that for me and many others is a deal breaker.
Its just too risky.

Need help making a couple choices

Hey guys, so the last phone I rooted and had a bootstrap on with custom roms was the Motorola Droid x2. We couldn't even get into the kernel. So with that being said I've acquired super user on my g3 months ago to freeze apps. But now I don't depend on my phone like I did then for work. So I want to do the whole thing and I'm unsure what choices to make. I'm not looking for a guide for installing stuff (at least not yet ) just trying to get suggestions and hopefully good recommendations.
So here's the main point for the post
TLDR!!!!!
Current android version 5.0.1
kernels- unlock it? Change it? Not sure what all you can actually do with that.
Bootstrap- clock work mod? Or any other one can't think of names but need something to load roms
Rom for battery and power- cyanogenmod is what I use to run on the x2 not sure if it's still one of the best?
Anything else I missed that I should get and check out?
Thanks in advance
Put TWRP custom recovery on your phone with the autorec TWRP app by @bender_007, in the General section of the non-variant specific G3 sections. Once you give the app superuser permissions it looks like it's hung up but give it 10-30 seconds because it's backing up your current recovery. Then click the button to install TWRP. Download the latest TWRP v2.8.7.0 from its thread also somewhere in the G3 sections, and flash it from your current TWRP.
I use @xdabbeb 's VS985 v2.0 ROM, which is based on the latest official LG ROM, build 35B, based on Android 5.1.1. Very happy with it, very smooth and great on battery.
I haven't heard the term bootstrap with regards to custom recoveries. I'd suggest just calling them custom recoveries.
Thanks for your input it's been a while after I read it I was like yep it's custom recoveries lol thank you again

Help updating custom ROM

Hi!
I have a Kindle Fire HDX 7 (Thor).
Some time ago I installed safestrap and flashed a CM 11 ROM in stock slot.

Happy to provide more detailed guidance (several have taken a similar leap) but will be traveling the next few days with limited XDA access. You can find everything you need in the HDX forum (several threads dedicated to the topic) or just hang tight until I return.

Sorry but now I can't remember precisely what I did.
None of the steps works? I remember that the first step (generate the unlock code) was flawless.
If even the first step doesn't work maybe you have adb drivers problem, so check the prerequisites section here https://forum.xda-developers.com/ki...r-firmware-t3463982/post70881555#post70881555

LG's great at following HTC's footsteps from five years ago in throwing a bunch of crap at the wall and seeing what sticks, only to abandon most of their power-user-friendly ideas in favor of becoming a generic also-ran that can't keep up with the Chinese, never mind Samsung. They've done one dumb thing after another starting with the G4 and they managed to get lucky once with the V20.
Even then, they still screwed up with the V20 by not selling it in Europe or marketing aggressively everywhere else when the irons (and the batteries) were hot. How the hell do you botch a product offering when your biggest competitor served lithium-ion flambé for that flagship's generation? LG Mobile is a three-ring circus.
Does this update the firmware as well (modem, bootloader, etc)?
