"Upload to Cloud" on LG v10 results in completely disorganized folder structure - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

"Upload to Cloud" on LG v10 results in completely disorganized folder structure
If I go into the stock file manager and select any file (in any fold) and then choose "Upload to Cloud" it then prompts me to select "Google Drive" (my only linked cloud storage service). When I select "Drive" then the window pops up shows the Drive folder structure heirarchy- except instead of showing me the normal folder structure, literally ALL folders, subfolders, and files in those folders are display in a seemingly random order. So instead of my directories and subdirectories in Google Drive, I get just a random disoraganized mess of files and folders - which effectively renders the "Upload to Cloud" feature completely and utterly useless. There is NO OPTION to sort or display the files or folders, and no way to "move up" in the heriarchy. Any ideas? The Google Drive app works perfectly fine. This is very weird behavior!

Anyone know how to organize photo albums?

Does anyone know how to assign photos to new albums? For example, if I take a bunch of pictures at a wedding, how can I put them all into an album, so when I go into the "Albums" app, I can go into "John and Jane's Wedding," rather than scrolling through hundreds of pictures.
you can create folders on your sdcard, which are shown as seperate albums then. not really convinient, but works.

I got the exactly same problem, I did create a new photo folder in my SD card, and its displayed separately only in SD card, once plug and view on the phone, its still combining all the photo in one album .. anyone knows how to do it ?
I have a folder named Pictures in the root of the SD card, then subfolders, each subfolder shows up as a different album.

Ah, that's the key. The folder has to be called "Pictures." I called my folder "Photos" and everything still showed up under the "Camera Shots" album. I renamed it to "Pictures," and *poof!* like magic, I have my separate albums.
Thanks!

FileShuttle-kind of app for Android?

On mac, I use an app called "FileShuttle" that lets me drag files onto it on my dock and it would create a random name (normally a bunch of numbers) for my file (to avoid file name conflicts) before uploading it to my own FTP server. So for example, when I drag my sample.jpg into FileShuttle, it would be called 4283748013.jpg instead.
I want to now if there's an app like that for Android, only, instead of having to drag and drop, I want to use the built-in "share" functionality in Android so along with Facebook, Twitter, Dropbox, etc, I want to have an option to "Upload to FTP" or "Share with FTP" with the file file still being randomly named. After uploading, the path to the file (which I'll define) should be copied to the clipboard, ready for pasting.
Anyone know of such an app?

Questions about ignoring or hiding media files

So here is what I have found out so far:
just like on Linux, I can create a folder starting with a "." i.e. ".myhiddenmedia" and it will not show up anywhere except if I use a filemanager and chose to "show hidden files"
I can create an empty file called ".nomedia" and put it into folders I don't want indexed for media
My progress so far:
I have a folder: .myhiddenmedia where I store my stuff I don't want to show up anywhere and I have put a file named .nomedia into some folders I don't want indexed i.e. I didn't want the pictures I send/receive via Whatsapp to show in my image gallery and neither my screenshots so I placed this file in those two folders.
Now the remaining problem I have is that the album cover art for all my music does show up in my media gallery but I cannot go and place a .nomedia file into every subdirectory as I have quite a lot of music and it changes as I copy/delete to and from my desktop. I also fear that a .nomedia file would stop my music from being index too.
How do you guys tame your media?

What can I do with Android Lollipops "Data Protection" function?

Hello, I have a question about the "Data Protection" function in the Android Lollipop "Security" menu.
Strange however, I seem not to be able to find specific documentation about that with google. Only about "Device protection", which is an option I do not seem to have in my device, but there is "Encrypt phone" and "Mobile anti-theft", which is pretty clear what it does.
At the section "Device administration" in the Security menu I see a function called "Data protection - Protect your data from unwanted access".
This function itself is protected with an own pattern, no matter how the Screen Lock is set, and at the next screen I can choose files to be protected against access. Only files, where I can choose from SD Card and Phone Storage with a simple browser.
As is see, locked files will disappear from where they have been before and only be accessible through the Data Protection menu sorted for Pictures, Audios, Videos and Others, and this is the only thing you can do with this – like putting files away in some extra protected (encrypted?) storage.
I would like to know, how exactly does this function work, where are the locked files? Are they simply hidden from directory listings or are they really safe?
And this is about all you can do with this, I guess … or is there any way to utilize this function to secure apps, create a protected folder or protect saved passwords in browsers?

Viber scoped storage (restoring images from Android 9 to Android 11)

I'm trying to move my existing Viber install from an old device to a new one. Both devices are rooted. I was able to transfer the app, message history, etc just fine via Swift Backup - but the one issue I'm running into is that all of the images are "broken."
The previous (source) device was Android 9, when Viber still stored all its media in /storage/emulated/0/viber. Now on Android 11 (I skipped Android 10), Viber uses scoped storage. However, even if I copy the original "viber" folder to the new device, it seems the new device no longer looks there for the images, thus they're broken in the context of the message thread.
Here's a blurb about their migration: https://android-developers.googleblog.com/2020/07/bringing-modern-storage-to-vibers-users.html. It sounds like on Android 10 they were still using the "viber" folder as "read-only", but it's unclear if it actually would've migrated the images into its scoped storage. When I moved WhatsApp to Android 11, it had an explicit option to migrate the data from its original storage/WhatsApp directory. Viber seems to have no such option. So the obvious solution should be to just find where Viber now stores its media, and manually move my images there from the old "viber" folder.
However, the oddest thing, I cannot for the life of me find where they should be.
The most obvious candidates are /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.viber.voip or /storage/emulated/0/Android/media/com.viber.voip - however, when I receive images in the new app, I cannot find any evidence of them in either place. I also checked /data/data/com.viber.voip, and likewise, I don't see the received images there. The article above says "Private media files are stored in the app-specific directory on external storage", which I think means it should be storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.viber.voip/files, but the only thing in there are "User Photos" - which are basically my contacts avatars. It seems like they *have* to be in one of those 3 spots though, because if I backup with SwiftBackup, uninstall Viber, go on airplane mode, restore with SwiftBackup, then check Viber, the images are accessible - meaning it must be reading them from the local device, and not remotely.
So all that is to say - where on earth is Viber now storing its images, and can I manually restore my old /storage/emulated/0/viber images to that location all my media in my message history isn't broken?
