Need help rooting my GS5 (SM-G900T) - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

I need to root my S5 to enable a 3rd party SystemUI tuner. I've tried several one-click rooting methods, but none of them seem to work. My device runs Android 6.0.1. I can provide any additional screenshots or specs if needed.

of course I can help. the best way to do it is to install a custom recovery, my favorite one is TWRP. Then you grab your favorite custom rom and flash it from there. I also recommend picking something new but if you enjoy touchwiz there are plenty of nice touchwiz roms out there. Such as smallwiz version 1. do not install version 8 its very laggy and has a ton of bugs. But the best rom out there is resurrection remix rom for the s5. hope I helped !

Ok this did help, however i know extremely little about installing custom recoveries. So I need to know:
1. What will I need to do it
2. What are the steps to do it, and...
3. Will installing a custom recovery wipe my storage?
I'm sorry if I'm being irritating, but I'm only just about to start computer science as a freshman.

I am sorry for the late reply my power was out due to a storm, Firs you need to install Odin, then you need to download TWRP, I recommend TWRP version 2.8.7.0 its faster even though the graphics look pretty bad. Next flash TWRP using AP on Odin, (Phone needs to be in download mode). On the Samsung devices TWRP wont install unless you do it twice so flash TWRP twice but the second time you flash unlick reboot on the options in odin. Once flashed a second time reboot into recovery, congratulations you have a custom firmware, now download your custom rom of choice I recommend small wiz its a debloated version of touchwiz, download it on your computer and then transfer it over to your phone on the download section after that you're going to want to wipe your wipe your phone. Wipe everthing except internal storage and sd card. next go to install on TWRP then navigate to the download folder click on Small wiz or whatever custom rom you have and then flash it. then once its done reboot and you're done. this will take a while to boot on the first time. its compressing a ram disk and installing a new kernel. dont be scared.

I am having issues rooting my device. I am running 6.0.1 marshmallow and with the march 1st, 2017 security patch. I am using a mac and am able to get odin v 1.85 running on my computer using wine bottler but for some reason when I connect it odin doesn't pick it up. I have reinstalled the drivers and it's still doesn't work. It works fine using Kies. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated or point me to the right thread thanks.

I cannot install Odin on my computer, because my only computer is a Mac. My only method of installing TWRP without a computer was on my Galaxy Tab, which was already rooted, and I used Flashify to flash it. Since my S5 has no root, I can't flash TWRP with Flashify.

Yes. My S5 is running the factory ROM I bought it with.

I resolved the issue. I flashed TWRP using my school laptop and installed Lineage 14.1. I got root by flashing a file to enable it in settings.
I have to say, Lineage is a LOT faster than the stock ROM, and it looks a lot cleaner too. Thanks for the help guys

[Q] Quick question for first timer

First time rooting / installing rom quick question
Looking to flash phone to villianrom 3.0 from what i read on the 2.4 version older posting it says to root with CF-root first. In the new 3.0 version posting it says it includes Ninphetamine kernel and the instructions assume you have clockwork mod already and can install zip from sd, Do i still need to CF-root before running 3.0 or does the Ninphetamine kernel Root automatically from the 3.0 zip??
Thanks
You need first of all a kernel wit CWM then you can flash custom firmwares through it from a .zip-file on your sd.
The new version will bring root with it through the kernel but you are not able to flash it unless you have CWM if it comes as a .zip-file
So for the first time flash a rooted kernel that includes CWM through "Odin" and then you are free to flash anything you want through CWM.
Hope that answers your question.

I have rooted my phone and copied villianrom to my sd card.
When I go through CWM and delete wipe does that also wipe my root?
When I try to install the ROM i keep getting error messages
Did you install the Ninphetamine kernel first...
No good complaining its not working if you skip steps....
What kernel did you flash to get CWM ?
Should all work fine if you follow the steps presented in the VillainRom post...

im not to familiar with Frankenstein kernels. what you should of done is rooted first your phone with one of the CF kernels..do that through odin..that will get your phone rooted..once you do that then you can flash any rom you like but always follow the guide from the thread of the rom you going to flash
EDIT: if you flash CF-root your rooted..go to development original and go on the thread and follow the guide...its through odin if i remember well its been a while lol but once you do that you will have all the perks of been rooted...
once you do that download the rom you want and just flash away through recovery or CWM manager....but do your reading and back up your rom first before you do flash

Ok think I am getting it now, not sure why I am so stupid this time as I have rooted my Hero and Orange San Francisco first time around.
One last thing.
Is ROM Manager and CWM the same?
I have ROM Manager installed and my phone is rooted, can I not just flash the CF-ROOT from my sd card?
Instructions - If you already have CF-Root
- Copy the zip file to your SD card
- Stop sharing SD card with computer over USB, unplug the cable, etc
- Applications -> CWM -> Flash kernel. Select the ZIP file on your SD card.
- Done
I think RomManager is just an app that can flash roms, do backups and other things by using CWM.
But I'm not that familiar with Rom Manager so I don't know much about it.
As I said I don't know what things you can do with RomManager but I would flash the kernel with Odin, thats the save way.
For the instructions...I think that means if you have a previous version of CF-Root and already have CWM.

No.
Even if it would you could just flash a stock firmware back again and start from zero.

[Q] [Solved] Recovery and roms scrolling (flickering)

Hi !
I have just bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wifi only (GT-P7510).
I want to install ICS on it, but I'm stucked on a problem : my screen is scrolling (flickering if you prefer, like an old broken TV) on a recovery and after install some roms.
My current configuration is OK with that :
- Recovery : CWM v5.5.0.4.
- Android : 3.2
- Kernel : 2.6.36.3 [email protected] #1
- Version number : HTJ85B.XXKL2 P7510XXKL2
With this recovery, I tried to flash my tab with the latest Krang version.
Installation OK but when Android starts : my screen is flickering and never stops.
I can see the Android ignition but impossible to use it except to shut down.
When I try to flash with Cyanogen mod for P7510 (plus.google.com/100275307499530023476/posts/1Lm5iULvf3w), my recovery says :
Assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "p4wifi" II getprop("ro.build.product") == "p4wifi"
Then I tried to install another recovery (a friend made it with this recovery) : andrewrecov.
This recovery starts scrolling, hard to read, then too fast to read anything.
I search for a solution on the web, but found nothing.
Just found some guys saying it's a rare problem, but I don't have any solution.
Any ideas ?
Thanks for your help
Just making a guide to fix, Keep an eye on the General forum!
Thanks mate
I tried a lot of things found on the Web but none fixed my problem.
I hope your solution will solve it.
Hi,
So i am not alone to get this problem
I dont have fixed the problem but find a workaround, if you install KANG (and other rom with scolling pb), if you lock screen (with power button) and wake up, scroll don't exist anymore and display is fine.
If you reboot the tab you have to redo lock/unlock.
After you do this the only display problem that subsist is when you change from portrait to landscape, screen goes black for a half of a second before rotating.

I didn't try that, I will but it's not an acceptable solution
I really don't understand why some tablets have this problem and not all.
Maybe the Tablet origin ?
As I see you're french (me too), I bought it on rueducommerce. Same seller or another ?
Just flash another version of CWM that doesn't flicker, there are many versions of 5, doesn't matter which because in the end the ICS installs it's own CWM later.

recovery rolling on p7510 with twrp 2.2.0 flashed
Noob - I've looked around a ton here trying to find some help with escaping recovery mode when the screen is rolling like this and just haven't had any luck at all...
So I flashed CWM 5.5.0.4 and went into recovery mode on my perfectly stock p7510 and got the rolling screen. I was able to see enough of the interface to reboot and was fine again - figured (stupidly now I'm seeing) that twrp 2.2.0 might not have this problem. So I flashed THAT recovery system and I'm still scrolling...however, because it's a touch screen interface now I'm pretty jammed.
What can I do about this? Is there a way to push through a reboot command?
UPDATE: WOW, I managed to peck my way back to Honeycomb. CRAZY. Going back to the "fix the scrolling screen" threads.....
Recovery Screen Scrolling
Hi, I just installed ICS on my GT-P7510 Galaxy Wifi Tablet but if I go into the ClockWorkMod recovery screen it scrolls incessantly (trying to re-root the tablet). This is the ICS Firmware/build P7510XABLPL_P7510UELPL_HOME.tar.md.5 that I installed. The device was rooted but not anymore after flashing from Honeycomb using Odin3_v1.85. I've tried installing recovery.tar.md5.....no luck......I tried installing ClockworkMod_Recovery_v5.5.0.4_P75xx.....no luck screen still scrolls. Can I even install anything via Odin now that the tablet is no longer rooted? Am I able to restore the tablet back to it's stock ROM? Am I able to do it through Kies? The tablet works on ICS as far as I can tell but I sure would like to root it again or have I in a sense "semi-bricked" it? I am a NOOB and would REALLY appreciate any feedback to get me out of this jam. I have read other posts about screens scrolling but nothing about it being the ClockWorkMod screen. Thanks to any and all who reply.
There are solutions for this. The easiest way that I have seen for ICS is to flash pershoot's bootloader variant and CWM recovery.
Go here: http://droidbasement.com/galaxy/roms/cm9/p4wifi/ and download the bootloader and recovery tar.md5 files. Flash them both via download mode with Odin and you should be fine. Come on back and let us know how you made out.

Which cwm version is that and is it good for stock?
It's the latest release from pershoot for CWM non-touch recovery. Last I checked it was 6.0.1.2 but that was just about a week ago.
I downloaded both tar.md5's and flashed them both - bootloader first, rebooted, rebooted into recovery, flashed new recovery, done. I was on stock LPL at the time. Hope it works out!
EDIT: I've been working on getting a crisp list of steps together for a new FIX post with bugs9477 and will post that at some point this week. It will be specifically for ICS because everyone here now knows how to fix the roll for HC.

Glad you got it worked out! FYI the recovery.tar.md5 is the CWM 6.0.1.2. If you flashed it and rebooted into recovery you'd see the version # at the top of the recovery screen.
Further, if you're flashing stock firmware via Odin (not a flashable ROM file, the stock firmware tar.md5) it will automatically wipe and relay the partitions for the entire tablet - /data,/cache,/system (the ROM itself), /sdcard (all of your storage), bootloader, all of it. You start completely clean when you go that route.

It should be noted that with that particular recovery, you may not be able to flash a CM9 or CM10 ROM until you've flashed the latest CWM recovery which you can get from www.droidbasement.com
Good luck guys
djmatt604 said:
Glad you got it worked out! FYI the recovery.tar.md5 is the CWM 6.0.1.2. If you flashed it and rebooted into recovery you'd see the version # at the top of the recovery screen.
Further, if you're flashing stock firmware via Odin (not a flashable ROM file, the stock firmware tar.md5) it will automatically wipe and relay the partitions for the entire tablet - /data,/cache,/system (the ROM itself), /sdcard (all of your storage), bootloader, all of it. You start completely clean when you go that route.

So how do you know if it's stock firmware vs. a flashable ROM file? I downloaded this: GT-P7510_XAB_P7510UEKMP_P7510XABKMP_P7510UEKMP onto my PC in hopes that it is the original HC firmware I had on my GT-P7510 and was going to flash it back onto my GT-P7510 if the scrolling CWM screen issue couldn't be resolved. How are you able to differentiate on whether you should use ClockWorkMod (via recovery mode) to download ROM onto SDcard then install ROM off SDcard or use Odin to install ROMS?
Thanks once again for your assistance!

I think its possible to flash a Sprint SM-G900P 4.4.2 rom on this phone if you follow the following steps:
1. Have custom recovery already installed and a backup in place in case you need to flash back.
2. Place the rom and stock kernel on phone SD
3. Boot into custom recovery, do a full wipe
4. Install the SM-G900P touchwiz based rom, do not reboot yet
5. Flash the stock SM-G860P _NG3_Stock_Kernel.zip provided in Post #1.
6. Restart the phone
@SeanRinVA and @wolfleatherworks :
You guys have showed interest in getting MOAR on your SM-G860P phones, so I thought I'd mention you here to help you find this thread. Make sure to have a nanoid backup beforehand and let everyone know how it went.
I'd watched the MOAR thread for a while, but it wasn't compatible with the SM-G860P (hung boot).

@tdunham just posted this yesterday and the second post this morning, but yes, he's looking for someone to test it (neither of us have the G860). If you have the time, could you give this a try and post back success or failure? Especially if you can get MOAR installed.

I can test it tonight. I've downloaded the Kernel...now to download the latest MOAR.
I've got an S5 Sport, just picked up today. Will be testing the kernel with MOAR.

Well it doesn't seem to be boot looping, I'll let it sit and cook for a bit longer. Currently it's just flashing the android white text and disappearing, not sure how long it should normally be on 1st boot.

I'm not sure what adb was for. You don't have drivers installed with a running rom so you can copy everything over to the phone?
Did you download the stock rom last night because the stock rom last night had a problem and has since been replaced. The one you should have the same name as the link in the OP. I even flashed it to make sure it would at least run.

I was using ADB since I didn't want to restore from backup until I was done testing. I'll try re-downloading and doing it over again to see if I can get it working, I'm off work today so now is the perfect time to try it further.
So this has me stumped -- For some unknown reason, I seem to be unable to copy over SM-G860P_NG3_ROOTED_DEODEXED.TEST.zip using MTP. I fiddled with drivers for the last hour and i'm at a loss -- it doesn't seem to be a driver problem, I can copy over MOAR and other files, but it won't let me copy over your test at all.

So, I'm not attempting to be dumb here, but it might be inevitable.
G900 stock roms boot with G860 kernel?
I use MOAR ROM(havent tried any other roms yet) for 900P and the the kernel zip in post #1 and using steps in post #2 I am running on it now
Great. Being a stock-based ROM, I would imagine that all stock Roms work with G860 kernel. Consequently, all AOSP ROMs should work with a kernel compiled for G860. There are 2 new G860s in the house and my intent was to compile CM11/12 for the Sport; however, if all that is necessary is the kernel&modules I won't bother pulling blobs.
Thanks. The phones aren't entirely at my disposal or I would do more testing.

It works!
I used the instructions here to install the rom for the G900P as linked to below. I've messed with it only for about 20 minutes but it worked perfectly fine! So much bloatware though, and I'm coming from the S3 scene and am not too familiar with what the G900P had to offer in terms of custom ROMs. If anyone knows a good lightweight one with powerful customization options please let me know so I can try it. I am doing my first backup of this ROM as I type this and will also be doing a restore of my previous ROM (stock with the bloatware removed manually) for now and will probably tweak the MOAR ROM more later this week. Just want to say thank you to everyone in this thread, you guys are amazing!

What I did to navigate was I had to push the power button then it would bring the screen up where you can swipe the bottom to unlock the screen and use touchscreen. Navigating the storage was odd because it shows it is stuck on Internal storage, but If i click on SDCard, it will take me to that directory. I hope there is a nice update to this is the near future, so we don't have to access it through "adb reboot recovery"
You can flash it if you like I just don't trust this copy yet waiting for an update before I flash it
You can use" fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" to flash rather than "fastboot boot twrp.img " to boot it

Oh man you were so right. I had it flashed and it caused me all kinds of problems, like booting the screen upside down etc. I was finally able to find the recovery.img in another thread and get back the stock recovery. I think I will also wait until there is a more stable TWRP version.
I always use boot to test and I always backup my recovery before flashing because I had that happen to me before

The 20170218 recovery works perfectly with my phone (6/64gb, 820). The first one posted in the OP worked, but was a bit glitchy. The updated one has working SD reading and touchscreen works without having to lock it first.
Could someone please tell me why twrp is booting upside down on my device, and how do I fix it? I just tried to run it in fastboot boot twrp-3.0.3-0-Z016D-20170218.img and once again it loads upside down, however the touch screen is where it normally is suppose to be, which makes it very difficult to navigate the menus. It is very frustrating. This has happened to me multiple times this week. I can't seem to get it to boot/load properly.

I really don't want to wipe everything and start all over from scratch because everything else is working great right now. I guess if there is no easy solution, then I will just leave it alone. I ran it with fastboot and then made a backup and saved it on my microSD card. But I am worried if I wipe everything and start all over again, then I will have to call my bank again to verify my cards for Android pay. I am running the stock firmware version 1698, with stock recovery, an unlocked bootloader, & rooted. Also have Magisk & Titanium Pro installed, and I verified that Andoid pay works for me. (I already bought something using Android pay).

Split screen after unbrick

Hi guys,
So, I have this problem, after unbrick the phone it turn on whith the split screen. I use this method to unbrick: https://www.gizmochina.com/2016/11/20/leeco-x820-max-2-super-unbrick-guide/ and now the phon it´s like in the photo. I tried all the ways: installing a new twrp, only works the Cuoco92´s twrps but instead i can not flash any rom, it turn on in black screen. Also i tried to d flash with the adb sideload , whitout results. In twrp the screen is also splited.
Many people have this issue after unbrick, no solution.

Are you sure you followed the OP carefully? There is a TWRP that is designated for using with the 014s ROM. Please use that one. I think the issue you have is with the drivers. Some users had installed another TWRP and they fixed it. Before 016s it was another kernel, therefore a different TWRP should be used. Also please mention when the screen became split, after finishing with QFIL, or after installing TWRP.

Try 3.0.2-0 and 3.0.2-1. Unfortunately the post that I was referring to had a TWRP for 014s that worked for me and many others, but now the download link is dead. In that case, I can suggest the above versions. They look pretty old, enough to work with 014s. Try them and report back. By the way, you can find them in the unbrick guide, I posted the links there.

It was solved without replacing the screen!
Ok so, I did as shown in the topic : https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-...tboot-t3525831
download twrp (The one I know didn't had the touchscreen issue)
boot from twrp (wish I had know about it before!) and not from one installed
upload zip file to /sdcard ( here's the catch, while in TWRP in don't have access to adb, the phone doesn't connect to pc or I don't know even I mount it, could be me. So i just put the archive at the root of the phone before booting to twrp from adb)
install rom
reboot

Did same steps bro, didn´t work . I only can install roms with 5.6 kernel, but still split screen. If is not a HW problem , I think is a kernel compatibility with display drivers and motherboard. I think the phone has a display named "trully" , manufactured after 5.6 kernel, so there is the problem. It.´s only my opinion.
