carrier aggregation issue on xiaomi phones - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

hey everyone, I'd like to open a discussion about getting carrier aggregations on our phones, as you already know many of us can't get this feature that's already been implemented on our carriers in many countries or in some countries one carrier does and one doesn't. it's called LTA-A, LTE plus. 4G Plus network
I saw a post on reddit and I quote :
"TIL : Redmi Note 3 Pro (Kenzo) doesn't support Inter-band CA
Recently, I just bought a carrier aggregation enabled operator's SIM card (Digi) to try out this phone's CA aka LTE-A aka 4G+. For your information, I live in Malaysia and you could look up for this operator in this link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks_in_Asia. To my surprise, there's no 4G+ icon show up so I'd decided to look up for more info on Chinese MIUI regarding this. Users that are able to access 4G+ are all China Mobile users and China Telecom users are not able to. China Mobile had intra-band CA and China Telecom had inter-band CA and hence I came with a conclusion, this phone doesn't support Inter-band CA."
which makes sense to me, as the carrier in my country which is Iran uses Inter-Band CA and won't work on my phone which is kenzo(rn3).also none of the xiaomi phones work either (entry level to flagship ones)
so, does anyone have the knowledge to tell me and the others that is it possible to change Intra-Band CA to Inter-Band CA? or is it the hardware that should be changed in order to work?
note : LTE bands aren't the issue here, both carrier and phones support them.

@TheStrix @flar2 @franciscofranco @MEGAX91 @billchen1977 @dadi11 @psndna88 @xyyx (please don't mind the order)
any suggestions regarding this issue?
@MEGAX91 I believe you were successful on your device(kate). is there a complete guide for everyone that could follow?

I'm desperately looking for a reasonable solution

It shows LTE+/4G+ but only 1 carrier. It cant working just got information from service provider about second carrier. I exactly got the same result.

There are very few operators which allow carrier aggregation.... Standards are there to implement in their network but mostly they are pretty expensive for them to bring live... May be in future, we may have

[Q] Which LTE Frequency band is my phone connected to

I've searched all around the web and I cant find a way to check what frequency band my phone is using
for Samsung phones just dial *#0011# and you can find that info, iPhones also have a way, but I haven't found a way to determine this in my Xperia Z2.
does anyone knows any way?
any app or something?
terminal command?
(4.4.2 Stock rom)
note: I want this because my carrier (Orange DO) is going to change their LTE band (and they're doing some test sometimes) and I want to know which band are they testing.

Sorry haven't been able to work with any Orange users to map out their LTE bands yet. If you get a phone that can access the *#0011* menu (or can grab a friends phone whose can) hit me up at [email protected] and I'll be able to bake support for Orange into the application.
I want to add support for all the Canadian and UK carriers but it's been hard to find volunteers in other countries to work with.

I don't know the exact UL/DL frequencies right now, but orange is using band 3 for LTE, and 900 for 3g / GSM / EDGE
the point is, they're on a process of migration from that LTE band, they're waiting (among other things I guess) for authorization to complete migration.
What I wanted to know is exactly which bands they're testing, because I've used a nexus 5 D820 (which lacks band 3) and often it gets connected to the LTE and a friends phone says it is still connected to band 3 (Galaxy S4 i9505 using *#0011#)
So there's no way other than *#0011# for Samsung Phones to get that Connection Data? not from data gathered
and..
actually I'm from Dominican Republic

According to wikipedia you are probably using band 3 frequency 1800mhz
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks#Americas
P.S. Damn your country has so many different bands lol.
You're not undersanding, i dont want static information, i want dynamic information.
I have a Xperia Z2 which has band 3, but i also have a nexus 5 D820 (americas version) which does NOT have band 3 and both get connected to LTE why? Because Band 3 is not Orange LTE final band, its a temporal one, and they are testing other bands, i want to know which band is....

Id guess band 2
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=4998&c=lg_d820_nexus_5_na_td-lte_16gb
And i forgot to mention that a friend has a Galaxy S4 i9505 (LTE) which lacks of band 2 and band 4, and using *#0011# says its using band 3
So, basically orange is using 2 LTE bands, one is obviously and oficially band 3, but the other one (probably band 4 but i want to make SURE) is on testing.

Hi OP. Did you find the right solution to find the frequemcy your which your smartphone connected to? Im looking for the same. All android apps i tried never show what freq band my phone are connected to. But i found 1 in apple ios app and you need to jailbreak. Its like a field test. Im hoping to find 1 that works with android because my apple is so outdated and non lte.
Thanks

This works indeed
But on stock based ROM you can't write into system folder due to RIL protection.
So either you create a cwm flashable zip to install this app in recovery, or you use a custom kernel with deactivated RIL.

will galaxy s9 plus US version work in india

i found a seller in chennai (india) who sells Snapdragon 845 editon of the galaxy s9 plus my main concerns are as follows
1. will it work without the 5 minute phone call required initially?
2. will it support volte (jio) in india without changing the firmware?
3. are indian bands supported especially for airtel and jio?
4. will warranty be covered in india?
5. will there be any issues that i should be concerned about?
thanks in advance

1. Yes
2. No. Jio VoLTE will NOT work.
3. Bands may be supported, but if there is 4G+ (LTE-A) in India, that may not work. And if you use a Jio SIM, only data will work, no voice calls due to lack of VoLTE.
4. No it won't.
5. Aside from the fact that VoLTE / LTE-A will not work on any network. Not really.
Regarding the band compatibility;
The S9+ USA model supports the following LTE bands (source: https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s9+-8967.php)
LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 12(700), 13(700), 14(700), 17(700), 18(800), 19(800), 20(800), 25(1900), 26(850), 28(700), 29(700), 30(2300), 38(2600), 39(1900), 40(2300), 41(2500), 46, 66(1700/2100), 71(600) - USA
India LTE bands (source: https://m.gsmarena.com/network-bands.php3?sCountry=India)
LTE 850 (5), LTE 1800 (3), LTE 2100 (1), LTE 2300 (40), LTE 2500 (41)
So you should be fine regarding LTE compatibility (not sure about VoLTE and LTE-A).
Regarding warranty only the local Samsung customer service will be able to answer this 100% accurate (most likely no warranty).

As far as i know
1. No. You need to insert a country specific sim to activate/unlock the device.
2. No.
3. Yes. But in the first place you need to unlock the device which is not possible.
4. No.
5. You cannot root the device because bootloader is locked in snapdragon version and No carrier aggregation(LTE-A) support because the ca combinations are country/CSC specific.
Hi,
I have US bought tmobile unlocked s9+ device..JIO VOLTE doesnt work .. is it not fixable at all ?
Or is there a way out ?
Thanks

M too facing same issue.
I researched a lot in last 2weeks on same but of no luck, found our that regarding volte the issue arising in many countries,
Small positive info got day before yesterday in s8forums Tgey said it was due to CSC in the firmware . And now a days all firmwares are multi CSC loaded, but since we used the phone in usa CSC from there was loaded, so I order load indian CNC we have to do the below.
if they just activated the phone after hard reset using indian sim they were able to use usa version with jio.. But I tried that too in vain no luck for us.
You may try above but.. you may lose data.. advise smart switch feature to sd card... if willing to do hard reset.
Please update if any luck

I have not played with these before ..like installing firmware and all..mine is SM G965U model .. not sure the method mentioned would work ! 965F us international model ? And tweaks to this model only work not US models ?
I checked with Samsung too.. they said its country specific .. i dont know whether to try this method or leave as it is !!
Thanks
Even I got stuck over us CSC, and all samsung pay rewards which were only for us citizens..
Mine is G965U1, VOLTE doesnt work in india.
Since snapdragon not yet unlocked I had no options for VOLTE.. even If I do I may have to let go the Spay...
My advise don't Buy.. during deals we almost get similar rate e commerce sites in india...

I have a S9+ snapdragon from T-mobile. Recently visited India. Jio volte does not work which was expected. But Airtel had bad reception and the internet would not work even intermittently when the 4g symbol was in display. However, in the same location, side by side, another airtel number on moto g worked flawlessly.
Even though the S9+ specifications shows all the network bands supported by Airtel, i did not expect to face the above problem. I am planning to sell the phone in the USA and buy a oneplus from India.
[SOLVED] use JIO SIM card on S9+ US Version in India
I purchased an S9+ ATT in December 2018, tried to use JIO SIM in India but no luck , then I wanted to get rid of ATT logo, which comes up every time I reboot my device. Did some research then and came across this forum https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9/how-to/how-to-flash-u1-firmware-to-device-t3765200.
Was able successfully flash my device to US Unlocked version from ATT version 4 months ago , now I can see VoLTE toggle. Again tried to use JIO SIM , didn't work . Since then my device gets regular OTA updates .
AIRTEL network in my area sucks, Now 09/2019 again I tired to use JIO SIM and it works flawlessly.

download the firmware for your carrier from www.sammobile.com/firmwares and flash it via Odin. If its the same android version, br sure to use the HOME_CSC file when flashing vs the normal CSC file to avoid an unnecessary factory reset. Flashing the HOME_CSC vs the CSC will allow you to keep all your stuff on your phone, CSC will factory reset it.

voLTE wont work unless you flash the CSC for your carrier on the device. voLTE is a carrier specific thing and requires the carrier specifc software to be installed which happens when the correct CSC file is on the device and the corresponding sim is entered

LTE+ support?

From modem specs, I see LTE DL support for

Would want to know if this phone would support 3CA.
Two Indian carriers Jio and Airtel support CA currently!
In this case, any previous Oppo phones launched in India supported LTE+?
How to check ???

I heard Jio has enabled LTE CA in all cities, but pls check this way
If Unrooted:
1st sign is if you have spotted + symbol in signal bar. Like LTE+ or 4G+
You can check also NetMonster if it shows Aggregated carrier
Rooted:
You can use NSG app and check LTE CA Matrix
Got this !!!!

If so, I would buy this right away, if H930DS supports LTE+ and VoLTE in custom ROMs. Need to confirm if VoLTE works in LOS..
This "VoLTE" in custom ROMs at XDA has been recently evolving as taboo..!
Anyways, do you use custom ROMs in your V30..?

The Indian LG V30+ supports Jio VoLTE on stock India Nougat. Oreo for that region has not been released yet, and while you can flash to another region to get Oreo then you would lose the Jio VoLTE.
You can only get root by flashing to H930 or the CIS H930DS OREO KDZ.
Perhaps with root you can flash parts back to get VoLTE like the Verizon guys have done -- or even 2nd SIM back -- but I can't promise that.

Thanks for your help, but I'd want to clarify the context little clear.
As you might know, Jio is LTE-only carrier and VoLTE is the only way of calling in that network. However, my question is about something else, viz. LTE+ - The capability of the phone to support certain LTE features like multiple carrier aggregations (CA), 256QAM, 64x64MIMO
Here in India, two carriers namely, Airtel and Jio have enabled LTE-CA in major cities. Hence I would want to know since some V30 Indian guys were confirming me LTE+ in Stock ROM - if LTE+ is supported even in custom ROM after BL unlock?
(Reason, why I'm looking for this, is, networks here are so much congested that during peak time, I hardly get 200kBps from single Band40-TDD LTE cell. If LTE+ is available on custom ROMs like in OP5/6 it will help get over this congestion)

Hi, just like volte support on our indian stock, the lte+ also works only Indian stock too.
I am currently on Boobox rom rooted with twrp and bootloader unlocked I dont get lte+. Rest assured everything is working great and on lte+ I saw nothing of much improvement over airtel since they have started to compete with jio prices.
So take my words root it and feel the freedom.

Thanks for stepping-in! I thought I wont get any further replies..
In my case, Jio has CA in 3 bands (Bands 3+5+40). And the place where I reside has pathetic network reception. I was about to switch to airtel, until I saw my friend OP5 getting marvellous speeds at the same place.
Also in your case, airtel has 2 bands CA (Bands 3+40). And since Band 3 will be so much congested, you wouldn't have got any considerable difference. Hence It should theoretically improve connectivity with my Jio..., However, before I jump, Can you install root app called NSG and share its screenshot?

Can you specify which screenshot you exactly looking as this app has more then 10 screens.
FYI it still has lte bands 1, 3, 5, 40 and 41 which are required in India.

I'm looking for LTE CA Matrix and LTE Cell Table pages
My current Redmi Note 4 though supports 2CA, some support on modem is missing it seems... Hence it's showing LTE+ in mine despite not aggregating with 2nd cell. I was suspecting LTE+ to be still there, but may be your ROM isn't showing you.. Hence those Screenshots would help understand that..
Attaching my device screenshots..

how to enable 4g+

hi everyone
I'm living in iran and carrier support 4g+ on 3 and 7 band
how to enable 4g+ on my phone?
I believe the phone connects to it automatically, because here in India whenever I go to areas with 4G+ it shows/connects automatically.
my phone also never shows 4G+ even in countries where it should work... and my LTE speed is always low compared to other phones using same network. More here

It is hardware related and depends on which model of the F1 you have. If your F1 model supports bands 3 and 7, then you will get it, otherwise not.

If your carrier supports 4G+ on specific bands, then you can "force" your phone to connect to those specific bands by using apps like Network signal guru.
