Screen Protector in question
Ive got one on order and will happliy give a review once I've gotten my hands on it. I've used their screen protectors before on my other devices and they have protected them just fine. Can't really complain about same day dispatch either.

Is it just me, or does this screen protector seem to lack a proper cutout for the notification LED. It can't be, can it? Surely, Orzly's better than that?

Why would you need a cutout for an led? It's a glass screen protector, you'll see the led just fine through it

Because it has a black frame, which isn't see-through? Why would you think the sensors and the camera have cutouts if the protector was transparent?
As suspected, the advertising pictures are incorrect. The actual screen protector has proper cutouts for the notification LED.

They usually have Amazon prime stock fairly fast so maybe give it a week and you'll probably be able to order for next day. If you can wait a week...

Couldn't agree with you more! I feel the same about OLED TVs to be honest. (it's just one of those things that manufacturers like to do so that they can try to pretend like they've invented something useful, but of very little use other than that old ones didn't do that. Flat screens for phones though are definitely much more practical in the context of glass screens though. That said, whilst I still prefer the flat ones hands down, I think Orzly made a much better job of the curved ones than any of the others I've seen (the actual TG Screen Protector that OnePlus themselves made was astonishingly terrible according to all the videos I've seen)

Meh I agree. OLED TVs really aren't necessary, I see the difference on LED/IPS phones and OLED phones but don't see much of a difference in the OLED TVs.
Yep I agree on your second point too. Had the Orzly TGSP for my op3 and it fitted great, much better then the likes of casebase etc. After watching the video @niijonodhg made, I'm excited to get this flimsy plastic protector off and get the TGSP one on!

My pet hate in terms of unnecessary 'value-less' over hyped marketing features is with food though. Off topic I know but you've now set me off thinking of stupid marketing ploys. So this month's 'super food' is cauliflower - you know cauliflower rice, cauliflower pizza bases from trader Joe's, cauliflower flour. I mean come on!!! Cauliflower has existed for a long time now, why blitz it and call it rice and try and fool foolish people in to paying over the odds for 'rice' - oh wait I think I answered my own question
Anyway hopefully like with most fads, this one will pass and soon we will have a 2020 nostalgic or retro version of the Oneplus 2 (like the Nokia 3310)

Yeah, the tempered glass versions are definitely the way to go. I personally have never seen the point in the other plastic foil types of protectors. (all they really do is just stop fingermarks and light scratches at best, but even those things they generally tend not to do so well, so for me personally it has never really warranted putting that type of extra covering on, as all that does is just cheapens the look. (and for very little benefit). But the tempered glass ones I absolutely swear by, as they psychically stop your phone's actual screen from getting smashed in, so that's the entire point for me.
( I learnt my lesson the hard way a few years back after accidentally dropping my phone face down and regretted it, so have been using the tempered glass types ever since) .

Yep definitely agree on the film protectors. The one that OP ships on the phone seems to be a dust magnet too, gets stuck to the screen. Kind of annoying haha.
Glad you have the same opinion on Orzly! Look at that we both had great experiences with then for the switch too!

Can't comment on the Switch as my wife is yet to buy me one (read neglected husband ) but I suppose it was an easier device as it has a flat screen rather than these fuddy duddy new age curved nonsense.
Ive had a dispatch notification for my Orzly screen so should know next week...

Haha, Small world! Yeah, absolutely loving my Switch so far, but wouldn't have dared taking anywhere without the tempered glass on it! To be honest I had thought about keeping my phone in the top pocket of the Nintendo Switch Travel Case I got from them, as it would certainly fit. (But to be honest I probably wouldn't hear the phonecalls if I did it that way, so I'll save the top pocket for the extra joy-cons and cables that I carry). For my OnePlus 5, I prefer to keep it close enough to my body so that I can physically feel aswell as hear when someone tries to call me on it.

Haha, yeah, Even retro in itself for me I find to be a rather annoying fad. (don't get me wrong, I love it when companies return back to things that work better than some of the pointless gimmicks they tried on but were never useful, but alot of times it's not even that) I think we have truly reached the age though where companies are starting to seriously run out of ideas. I think the last innovative thing I ever saw on a phone was a few years back when Apple first brought out Touch ID. (couldn't live without that now, so I genuinely do find that useful). But now fortunately this feature is standard on alot of phones now, but I haven't seen anything innovative from anyone for a long time. Apple and OnePlus are still my two favorites by far (I like to have both iOS and Android for different things). For Apple though I think the 5S to 6S Plus era are my favorite types, and don't like where they went from 7 onwards which is why I'm buying the OnePlus 5 for my android replacement this year, and just sticking with my existing 6S Plus for my Apple unless I hear anything that impresses me enough about iPhone 8 to warrant making the upgrade. (could happen, but not heard even so much as a rumor that has pricked my ears up so far). I do sincerely hope though that they surprise me and prove me wrong.

Yeah, I can confirm that the screen of the Nintendo Switch is completely flat, and that really does make a huge difference. to the type of screen protector you can put on it. (Definitely the flat screen devices are superior in that respect). The curved screen devices really make it alot more complicated to actually protect them, so I do sincerely hope this fad of curved scenes dies a horrible death soon, as they definitely seem to create more problems than they solve. I personally see no befit to curving them whatsoever, and seems to infuriate users who eventually regret buying devices they otherwise really like, after having such an annoying experience with them. (if it's any consolation, it has backfired on the manufacturers too if you think about it (as if they had a flat screen to begin with, their own screen protectors would have worked alot better with their devices, and they wouldn't have had to worry about so many 3rd party accessory manufacturers from stealing their thunder, nor the problem of customers who had gotten frustrated with the experience opting to not put themselves through that whole ordeal the next time round). Until they learn this, it is a problem they will forever be vulnerable to.
But in OnePlus's defense, they do tend to learn from their mistakes alot more than many other phone makers. But if I was in their shoes, I would certainly be making doubly sure to pay attention to this particular issue, as this happening twice in a row now on their last two devices certainly isn't doing them any favors (even amongst those of us who generally otherwise love them, but are starting to get fatigued enough by it to think twice next time). If we are vocal about this often enough though as loyal customers who understand how important this is, if any company can learn from it, I believe OnePlus can.

You know.. I gotta say, I absolutely love the build quality on this thing.. I was worried about not having a case for it at first..
But, my girlfriend accidentally dropped it like christmas even and that is the only scratch on the thing.. it is a small nearly unable to be noticed scratch on the very bottom right side. And that was onto a brick fireplace by total fluke. (She didn't realize the box wasn't sealed shut and it somehow popped out.)
After having this thing nearly a month, it being in my backpack a few times, my pocket and other places..
I see no scratches dings or anything.. which is pretty impressive. While I have taken pretty darn good care of it.. normally by now you will have something on any given piece of electronic.
Are the HTC phones this good? I'd honestly consider settling for lower specs in the future as long as the build quality was this good... Naturally I have and would use a screen protector but, I must say I am very happy with the current no scratch goodness of my tablet.
Yes, they are built well. I did drop mine from about 3-4 feet and it hit a corner in a case on a hard floor and the LCD went bad. I replaced it and all is well.
I dropped mine down a crack on a sleeper sofa and it put a nice gouge on the side of the tablet, but otherwise it's pretty good. Got a little nick on the screen as well. But otherwise, it certainly feels like a premium device.
Dropped mine screen first on a parking lot. Only a corner was scratched.
HTC is the best. I can't believe the majority of people think Iphones in the same league. You can't even mount it as a flash drive for christ sakes, you have to go through Itunes, after you have to update it every week or it doesn't work lol.
I'll probably get thrown off the forums for admitting this, but I'm an iPhone / Mac user and the View has really impressed me in terms of build quality. HTC's software "improvements", on the other hand... :/

All of these products are designed to enhance our lives in ways ranging from fun to productivity.
While we may disagree on preferences or reasons to use certain products, none are really more or less valid than anyone elses.
I don't deny personally having a strong dislike of Apple products, but they are gadgets not a religion.

you should still get the screen protector as its screen is not a gorilla glass.....more so if you are using pen a lot.....you will get the scratch sooner than later bro! and there are quite a few clear screen protectors around, so grab one!

Absolutely get a screen protector. They also help reduce glare (if you go with a matte one) which is a real problem with this tablet if you like to watch movies.
I had a screen protector on my Nook Color also, and just before I sold it I put a deep gouge into it by pushing too hard on a cheap capacitive pen. Thanks to my screen protector I was able to sell the Nook with a clean screen, rather than one with a deep gash.
I have a screen protector, but no case on my Flyer. The powder coat aluminum casing seems really durable, and I've been really impressed with it. I've owned it since June I think. I can't seen any scratching on it, despite being laid on tables constantly.
My Desire Z phone has a brushed aluminum battery cover on back, which has a lot of superficial scratches. But the soft touch plastic around it does not show scratches. Every HTC phone is a bit different (a few too many different design, some might say). But in general, they have the highest quality casing design in the business, IMO.

Yeah, I can't count how many times I've set my tab on a table and I feel something scraping the bottom that I didn't see when I looked at the table..
Scared the crap out of me the first few times.. I am quite pleased to have no scratches from it yet.
also, I have a screen protector on my flyer.. Found a cheapo zagg at bestbuy.
Tottaly agree. I really like the build quality of the HTC Flyer. The HTC Flyer is my first permanet tablet. I started with a Samsung 8.9 but it went back to the store.

I don't think it will be an issue at all. All samsung phones as of late have the same flimsy plastic snap on back, and it's not an issue at all on my infuse. I think it's smart engineering, as somehow they keep a rock solid device while making it super thin and super light, all with plastic. I literally have to wrench on my phone to get the slightest squeak out of it.
I really dislike when every youtube review of any samsung phone complains about the battery cover, because it really isn't an issue.
Almost same like the Galaxy s2. Samsung phones dont have very good build quality

The main reason this concerns me is because I had an htc amaze and it squeaked terribly. Thanks for the reply, you seem to know your stuff.
Back cover is thin and light but does not squeal.

Wow your an idiot!! Samsung has pretty much the best build quality for smartphones and TV's on the market right now. Just YouTube drop tests to see for yourself.. If Samsung is such poor quality then why does every other smartphone company buy parts from them, displays especially?? Everytime you see a phone with a Super AMOLED it was made by Samsung.

Your argument doesn't really make any sense. First off, I can't imagine what TVs have to do with this. Yes, Samsung is one of the largest display manufacturers. Yes, they manufacture panels for other smartphone vendors. Yes, they make a lot of very good TVs too. None of this is related to build quality of smartphones.
Build quality can mean a lot of things, but the way I think of it is "how durable the phone looks and feels." Success at drop tests is certainly a part of it, but imo it's a pretty small part. Some people find that the light, plastic-y feel of Samsung phones seems cheap to them, especially when compared with, say, HTC phones, which tend to use aluminum unibodies. Some people worry that the back covers are fragile because they are thin and bend easily. There are any number of other little concerns that people roll into "build quality" too; part of the reason people tend to disagree so much is that it's a very broad term that covers a lot of aspects of a phone.
I personally don't think that Samsung build quality is poor; I've had several Samsung phones and have never had issues with squeaking of with parts breaking, and I am not convinced that it is statistically more likely for a plastic Samsung phone to break than a metal HTC one, and they are definitely less prone to damage than a glass iPhone. I can understand why some people prefer a heavier, metal or glass phone, but for me, I'm happier with the way Samsung's plastic construction makes their phones thinner and lighter. There are tradeoffs associated with pretty much all design decisions, and I generally feel that Samsung has made good ones.

Thanks for the thanks, haha. I really can't be 100% positive about the note, seeing as I have not held one, but based on the recent track record of samsung, plastic phones can be just as solid as something made of metal. And the plastic definitely gives me peace of mind, as when my phone hits the ground, I know the plastic will absorb much more of the energy than metal will, making it less likely that my screen will shatter. This is most likely why samsung kicks ass in drop tests.

I respectfully disagree. Just because it isn't made of metal, doesn't mean it doesn't have good build quality. With the combination of gorilla glass and the polycarbonate that samsung uses for their phones, I would say that in my honest opinion, they make some of the best phones out there. Not to mention the beautiful samoled displays that they use; i will never own another phone without a samoled screen. Yes, an iPhone 4 has very attractive design attributes, but for a device that I am carrying day in and day out, samsung has a better design to me. When is the last time you saw somebody without a case on their iphone? I run my infuse with no case because I can, and the fit and finish is every bit as nice.

The build quality of Samsung phones are far superior to any other smart phones I've used it owned. People assume that plastic is cheap. The back of the note is high grade plastic... Keeps the phone light and won't break. Also, samsungs perform wonderfully in drop tests. To me that says quality build.

I can understand why some people prefer a heavier, metal or glass phone, but for me, I'm happier with the way Samsung's plastic construction makes their phones thinner and lighter. There are tradeoffs associated with pretty much all design decisions, and I generally feel that Samsung has made good ones.

Sorry that was a quick emotional response. I just get mad when people just assume the light plastic of Samsung is poor. I've seen a lot of iPhones and HTC's break or have the screen crack from not very high drops.
I've dropped my infuse a couple of times with just a body glove case and it still looks like new. I think the extra weight of HTC's metal body makes the screen crack easier.
I like how the back cover is so thin that some cases for the note require you to remove that thin back cover all together as the case acts like the back cover. I think it was one that has a flip cover.
if the back cover was a more solid metal, then ppl would complain the Note is too heavy.
it is plastic for obviously a good reason i'd say.
There's nothing wrong with plastic. And there's no squeaks, I own the International version.

So apparently I lent the tablet to my sister to get the hang of it (I know what they say about women and technology) but yeah soon to regret, After cleaning up and making the screen all shiny I noticed a rather long 1" scratch on the screen, I thought it was something that a little damp cloth can wipe off turns out it's actually scratched the screen. I've never dropped the tablet but I can't say the same when women handle it (No offense ladies, if ever)
I wouldn't mind if the sides got dented, but that 1" of deep scratch shattered my heart to pieces. So question is, I thought the glass was GorillaGlass, dafuq samsung? I've had a 3Gs for almost a year or more, and there isn't a single dent/scratch on that screen despite the heavy usage on it, same with my 8 month old Galaxy S.
They say it's Gorilla Glass, but what's that really mean?
Just wondering if she wears any rings, such as diamonds? Maybe it got dragged across the screen. Just a thought or do you know what caused it already?
Really sorry to hear, cause I would be going nuts about it. Not at her per say, but just having that scratch would make me nuts.
Just another quick thought. If it was for her to get used to, I would ask for hers before she scratches it. Surely have yours convinced her she can't live without her own.

It's gorrilla glass, but unfortunately, it's made of glass, not gorrillas. But yes, it's the same stuff as used in lots of consumer electronics. Ask Du Pont if you want more info. Scratch resistant, not scratch proof...

Yes, it's gorilla glass. Yes, it's resistant to scratches. No, it's not immune to them. It WILL get scratched if you chop your vegetables on it, it will get broken if you drop it from 2 meters, it will look like Swiss cheese if you shot at it with a minigun.
On a more realistic note, it can also get scratched by diamond rings, by putting it on the floor/table face-down, by pulling it in and out of a tight case if some sand somehow gets in the case, ...
Lending my device to other people is why I always have it in a case and why I have a screen protector on it.
If you're sure your sister is the one who made the scratch, and she is buying her own one, I'd ask her to trade the devices or something.
There are also some products around that claim they can remove scratches, but I don't have any experience with them.
Putting a screen protector on might just change the flow of light in a way that'll hide the scratch, but it can also do it in a way that'll make it even more visible/annoying. I'd love to put on a screen protector but it kinda kills the whole idea of "Gorilla Glass" I don't know if you watched the initial release before the 2G iPhone came out and they kept talking about how Gorilla Glass was one of the best inventions and so the praise went on, the had some live demo's and it was amazing (2 years ago). I don't really know if the glass on the tablet is not thick enough? or it's just a really thin glass pane? I do appreciate the feedback and thank you @slack for the free "thanks" hahaha, then again I too have a leather case (for the 7510 series) but people often mistake it for "ZOMG IS DAT AN IPAD?" and that disappointment on apple sheeps when you tell them it's a Galaxy Tab, they go like, "what's that?"..*FLIP TABLES AND *****

I'm not dissing android but putting on screen protects kinda adds another layer at which the device makes it harder to read your "touch" or electric impulses are they call it, I had one that came free with my initial Galaxy S and it was horrible, worst thing ever. Touch was less responsive and you had to press it hard enough like them old school vending machines.

Yes, I've watched a lot of stuff about gorilla glass, but I've also done some live testing at my university (we got a batch of pieces to compare it to normal glass). I even have the specific results somewhere ...
All in all yes, it's a great improvement. It is seriously resistant to scratches, it's much much (and I mean MUCH) harder to break, but still, it isn't perfect.
I wouldn't say your bulletproof vest - tank example is completely appropriate here, since a bullet shot at a tank wouldn't compromise the tanks usability (at least not mostly, there are some extreme cases when it might, but let's leave that stuff to Hollywood) - but a scratch on the screen of a tablet definitely would. And a screen protector does help against scratches from diamond rings.
I have an Ultra Crystal SGP and I haven't noticed the screen responsiveness to lower. The only thing that is bad about it is that it gets dirtier faster and seems to reflect light a bit more. I also don't have to press any harder then I had to without the protector, as soon as I touch it (actually a little bit before ) the touch is recognised. If you feel your screen responsiveness diminishes, you can also applications to raise the "touchscreen sensitivity".

Disagree, Mate, I have a Zagg protector and a case as well. For the expense of a 32GB 10.1, I'm not about to risk damage. Other poster is right: it is made of glass afterall not gorillas.
Also, like another thing best kept covered; there's very little loss of sensitivity when its covered.

Im usually not a fan of screen protectors on my phones but when i bought my tab at best buy they had the zagg invisibleshield for $15. It wasnt easy to put on and it looked pretty bad at first but once it dried out It pretty much disappeared. I dont even notice it anymore. A 10" screen is bound to get scratched up. Im glad i did it.
I got a scratch on my screen, and It had to be a scratch because I couldn't wipe it off even with a few different cleaners.
A few months later - the scratch is gone!!!
Yes, I'm saying it healed itself. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Having a screen protector does defeat the purpose of the gorilla glass. However, I would rather have that extra measure of protection and just replace the screen protector every few months.
I wonder how much does a replacement screen cost from the local showrooms?

Used to have an invisibleSheild on an older phone but I hated the feel of the thing. Feels rubery, very unpleaseant!
I don't know for other brands but I'd realy go for something that repels the finger prints... I always have to clean the thing :|

I was about to say that, as good as it protects, it's more like a condom on the phone, a dry one.
What ticks me off about it is when you sweat through your jeans the whole screen becomes a mess and the phone (The one I had it on) could barely read my touch.
I currently have the Galaxy Mega and absolutely love it...that being said when i saw the google play edition of the Z ultra last night I got a bit envious. has anyone come from the mega and if so what are your thoughts? i know there is little size difference but what were your impressions?
obviously, i'm fine with big phones but i'm concerned about the camera since i have an infant and taking pictures is actually important to me now.
also, i am wondering if you can use the Samsung MHL cable on the XZU as i use mhl daily. would be nice not to have to buy another cable.
I have no experience with the Mega, but your MHL cable won't work. Samsung MHL adapters are 11 pins while the rest are 5 pins. Non-Samsung adapters are very cheap though ($10 bucks)

I came from a Mega:
This is so much more powerful. Like, crazy powerful. It completely devastates the Mega. It's noticable the second you start using it, its just so fast and smooth.
The second big improvement is the screen. The Mega has an awesome screen for 720p, but the panel in the Ultra is epic.
The third big improvement is surprisingly battery life! The Ultra is considerably better.
Fourth big improvement is in signal quality. I am UK based so don't use LTE currently, but 3G the Ultra gets a stronger signal pretty much everywhere.
It's waterproof, which is never a bad thing.
Oh and I nearly forgot... Roms. There is already an excelent CM10.2 build available for the Ultra, as well as a fair few other roms and obviously the GPE just got announced and that will bring a tidal wave of very high quality roms. The Mega development section on the other hand is virtually a barren wasteland, and being both underpowered and Touchwiz inflicted it is in desperate need of a decent AOSP build. The Ultra is actually fine stock ironically, Sony only lightly skin Android and the stock rom is near-AOSP anyway.
On the downsides:
The Mega did fit in my pocket better, though I still keep my Ultra in the front pocket of my jeans just as I did with my Mega. The angular design looks good, but it is a little impractical on a device this big.
The touchscreen is prone to occasional mistouches, mainly if it's dirty. Not a big issue by any means, but a minus point non the less.
The camera is much better on the Mega, particularly in low light.
The "ASF" screen protection fitted as standard is stupid. It's plastic based, so it will scratch considerably easier than the strengthened glass beneath it and doesn't feel as nice under the finger. If you remove the film, which took me about 3 hours, the glass underneath doesn't have any oleophobic coating and so gets dirty easily. I plan on buying some of the Fusso replacement oleophobic coating on the net soon to resolve this once and for all, but that costs £20 and it shouldn't be necessary.
For me, the Ultra is the MUCH better phone. I'm really happy with mine, probably the best phone I have ever owned. :good:
i just returned my mega to buy a z ultra play edition, the mega wasn't powerful enough and didn't have enough customization options for me.

thanks for the help.
some of the things that make me weary of the XZU - i think the sharp pretty much sucks and prefer the rounded corners. i'm not sure if it being a bit bigger will be much of a problem or not. i went to the store to try to find one and its not in stock anywhere yet.
i really want a stock android experience though and i'll never ever get that on the Mega since they'll never get MHL to work and i use mhl daily with my appradio 2 and must have it.
that google play edition is so so tempting...i better not even mention i bought another phone after just getting the mega 6 weeks ago.
is it at all easier to use being so much thinner? i didn't think that would matter though in ease of use but not sure.
It's actually ridiculously thin. I have a hard time picking it up from the table. It's almost like trying to pick something flat off the ground and you can't really get a grip. It would've been brutal for the pockets if it was thicker.

i am also confused about this screen protector? is it a protector just built onto the phone that most people don't like or remove but its really hard to take off? i haven't seen any reviews mentioning it.
I'm not using a case. I like to use my devices naked. The screen protector is an "Anti shatter film" that's preventing glass from shattering once you break it. You may remove it if you want to, but I've heard that it takes like three hours to do it since it's really thin and it breaks into tiny pieces. It's not a good protector, so the oleophobic layer (anti smudge) layer will start to come of after some use. Also, since it's a plastic sheet, using pens on it to take notes or draw isn't recommended since it will naturally scratch it. Sony sure employed a brainiac to do this job, and I can't understand why they would do this.
Either way, that's just how it is. You won't notice or even see the protector, and if you get scratches, you can remove it and use your own protector. It just takes a lot of time. You can read all about it in a thread that's lying around here some place.

I'm using a black TPU case I got off ebay for £3, it doesn't add hadly any bulk but ofers decent protection.
I bought the Mega for the mrs. She wanted a large screen but doesn't need all the bells and whistles and see loves it and is used to TW having come from a note 2.
Honestly I like both devices, but for a hardcore tinkerer like me I had to have the Ultra.

yes, i just wish there was somewhere i could go check out the device before buying it.
the biggest thing i think i will hate is that screen protector on the phone. that seems like the dumbest decision ever to put that on out of the factory.
there is a sony outlet store about 40min from me i wonder if they would have one, surely they would

You can't see the factory fitted screen protector. I have a normal screen protector on top as well and its invisable if you take your time to install it carefully :thumbup:

Yeah, you won't notice it at all unless you get some bad scratches. Just treat it as a gadget, and not a piece of meat, and you probably won't get any.
If you have an infant and pictures are key for you then avoid this phone like the plague. I have young kids also and this camera sucks. However otherwise the phone is very good in every other aspect.

I'm waiting for my ZU to come in the mail I'm so excited coming from a Mega 6.3!
After playing with a friends ZU, the thing that I will appreciate most on the ZU is the faster processor and larger RAM, although I must admit I do wish the camera on it was a bit better with flash!! I'm a girl and I like to take selfies geez... :silly:

I owned the original Xperia Z and loved the mobile. Reviewers all gave it some negative feedback as when they sat in the kitchen they could not see the screen from the living room due to what they called "Poor viewing angles". I found this odd and got into all sorts of trouble on one review site, Trusted reviews, where they are anything but' trusted'.
I digress. The Z came with this new 'anti shatter film' Point is within only a few days of very respectful use I could actually see tiny marks on this laminate membrane. I spoke with the Sony importer here who advised me to fit a screen protector, in some countries they where sold with the screen protectors in the box. At that time this confused me as I thought both one and the other where the same thing? Not the case at all.
The anti shatter film is fitted as when the water resistant idea was in development the designers realised that customers would use them by a pool or near water like a beach. This caused some concern as if the phone got wet it became slippery and if dropped the screen could shatter and leave shards of glass all over the place where people could cut themselves (not to mention the cost of emptying and refilling a pool). To prevent any such problem and, I guess, avoid legal action? Sony fitted the new range of water resistant devices with these anti shatter films. Great idea.............
IN PRACTCE they have proved so soft they scratch far to readily and in terms of the Ultra it would be suicide to use a pencil on that anti shatter film.
here again is Sony being innovators of great new developments yet so often dropping the ball at the last hurdle!
I have a very decent screen protector fitted on my Ultra that I always order the same time I purchase any phone, phablet or tablet. I also always purchase a decent cover to further protect the device. I would like to use them without a cover but just cannot bare to think of scratching my devices. So good looking yet the cases do hide their good looks also add greatly to the bulk.
Life is all about compromise though.
I suggest comparing the Samsung mega against the Ultra is an unfair test to start with. Size being the only common denominator. With the exception of the camera, so I am told, the Ultra is made to a higher standard in terms of materials used in construction also the other operational hardware is more advanced. I am a Samsung fan but have never been a fan boy of any brand. Its a question of purchase what satisfies ones needs and requirements. I also own the SG Note 3 and gear, they are both now boxed and in a draw ready to sell.

It is a die-cast aluminium body which then has the antennas placed on the outside (because the signals wouldn't get through the metal) there is then a primer to help the paint bond to the aluminium and cover up the antennas. They then use a microdised finish over the top which is effectively a metallic paint.
It's not plastic it's just not been machined and anodised. They were going for a different take on the metal body that could allow them to hide the antennas.

A diffrent take lol. That plastic coating pretty much negates the need of having metal in a phone. Just make it out plastic if ythats all ill feel when holding it !
Most concerning part is the display assembly. So thin that you can see the pressure points when you select something. Maybe i am to demanding idk, but all the different phones over the years i have never experienced such thing.

You get the benefit of heat dissipation and rigidity/strength of the metal body instead of a plastic body.

im pretty sure no one complained about such thing with S5/G4 and earlier devices that used full plastic builds. You are delusional my friend, they are missleading consumers, & then coming out with some bs excuse, "we are doing it differently, we didnt want to do what everyone else is doing" !
I'm not delusional, people just seem to have got it stuck in their heads it is basically a full plastic build. There is plastic in every metal phone, just of varying degrees.
I've no issue with the way they have constructed the phone. If you don't like it then don't buy it.

i sure as hell won't buy it, i already bought the S7Edge, and it doesnt have any plastic, at least none that makes contact with my hands !

i gotta see ppls experiences with the G5, its good to know how good the competition is doing this year , apparently there is none so far
I got the S7 Edge as well but was hanging around here to see if I liked the G5 as I still have one more jump until July with Tmobiles jump on demand.
Looks like I'll be waiting to see what the HTC 10 brings to the table.

definetly, the chanfer might be too big, but still, they are fixing what was broken in previous gens, & there software is the top OEM skin out there, so yeah it will be a good competitor to the S7/Edge.

seriously… this device has not been shipped worldwide yet and people already start complaining about built quality. get a life.
i preordered my g5 including a free camera module and i'm proud of that decision so far.
all thats left is that they start shipping to germany.
I keep wanting to think that the GS7E is good lucking. Maybe it's just that I'm coming from the G3 but....it just seems too damn narrow! But to be honest, the biggest problem is that I can't play with the GS7E at any of the stores, they're all on demo mode...maybe I should go into another carrier's store where there's one I can actually demo. Can anyone tell me whether your carrier typically has its demo phones NOT on retail mode? I'm on sprint here (and still undecided between G5/GS7E/GS7).

I per-ordered the G5 and got it Friday. I have had no issues with. This whole metal vs. plastic issue is a joke. Structurally speaking, this is great phone. They had to switch to the thin metal aluminum in the back because of the void between the back and the screen when you take out the battery. And when you do take the battery out, there's very little to no deflection.
I have an metal body iphone 5s for work and i hate it. This is so much better.

I'm not here to insult, just to inform on my experience thus far. However, i wish you wouldn't be commenting so negatively on this phone without using it for some considerable time. A 10 minute in-store demo use of the phone shouldn't count especially when you are looking for all the negatives. When i pick up a phone in the store i look for all the negatives first before the positives.
Like I said, the look and fell of this phone is great after 4 days of use. The main selling point for me was the removable battery and the camera. The battery seems like it's very easy to swap and the camera is superb. I took it to a show on Friday and the pictures where incredible especially in wide view. I'm sure the 7s takes better pictures, but i really like the wide angle.
I personally don't care for all the friends modules they're advertising.
Had i read your comments before i purchased the phone, i probably wouldn't have bought the phone. Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll be happy to answer.
