Youtube lagging/jerking after some time of use. No matter which rom or kernel. - Xiaomi Mi Pad Questions & Answers

I am having a bit of issues lately with youtube, which is the main use of my MiPad.
Youtube started lagging few weeks ago for me. Like missing frames every now and then.
If I clean install a ROM the YT will work awhile normally but after few days and after installing some other apps the lagging starts again.
First I thought it was just the new F1xy kernel and reverted back to old fixy but problem remained. Then I tried Smoke kernel and problem remained.
Then I clean installed cDroid (new blobs) and everything was fine, for awhile. After installing Chrome, the lagging came back and I thought that Chrome was the problem and uninstalled it and videos worked awhile okey but then the lagging came again.
I've now tried several kernels and LOS14 (new blobs) and crDroid and installing and uninstalling YT and clearing its cache and whatnot rebooting and lagging always comes back sooner or later.
I used to run LOS14 with fixy or foxy and had no major issues with YT but now I just can't seem to shake this problem away.
I now run crDroid and SmokeR21.5 and with gaming or video-profile I might be able to watch some YT without lagging, but eventually it starts to jerk.
Does anyone else have this kind of lagging/jerking with YT and does anyone know how to get rid of it?

Now I haven't had any serious lagging for awhile and I have no idea why. I still run crDroid and SmokeR kernel. Bloody magic if you ask me...

And lags are back yet again. Every 10ish seconds roughly there is a slight jerk [emoji21]
I am using SmokeR kernel with gaming profile. Cpu freq doesn't dip under 696Mhz but still lags happen. Damn!

This might be a 1080p60 issue. At least yesterday I had no hiccups with normal 1080 video but 60fps one had occasional lags. Gonna try the new Smoke LOS14 next to see how that handles videos.

Have you tried Smoke LOS 14.1? Seems that YouTube issue is fixed there.

Great. Finally after so long, we might have ROM that YouTube don't sucks

Some results;
With Smoke LOS 14.1 I was able to watch 1080p60 videos without a hitch and without the performance app for few days iirc but after that videos started jerking so I installed the performance app and tried the with different profiles. Only with the Gaming profile I was able to watch 1080p60 videos without problems. So the Smoke LOS 14.1 is one solution for me.
Unfortunately that ROM is still too beta. Battery consumption and deep sleep behaviour is just bad and I would estimate that I could only get 4ish hours of SOT during few days cos of the battery drain.
So I decided to give crDroid 3.6 and F1xy 9.3 beta a go.
It seems that Youtube is having some mobile issues with 1080p60 videos and those are not available atm, 720p60 is the highest atm. I suppose they will fix that soon.
Anyway, crDroid + 9.3 worked like a charm for roughly 6 hours (minus the artifacts ofc). Then the jerks came back and Spectrum app didn't help at all. No matter what profile I used, I still got at least mild frame drops.
So I played with Kernel Auditor a bit and noticed that only settings that helped was if I set max and min CPU freq to the same value, e.g. 1800Mhz, all the YT videos play nicely. Even with 1000Mhz there was no huge frame drops. I am going to do some more testing but at this moment I speculate that the frame drops occur when CPU frequency fluctuates.
Has anyone else noticed anything like this? Am I the only one with these frame drops (lags, jerks, hitches) in 60FPS YT videos?

And after writing that message above 720p60 videos played just fine with Balanced profile without tinkering with frequencies. Idk what is going on with this tablet...

I think I found it what is causing the lags on youtube. I think it is the bloody Live Display setting and particularly its Night setting that is doing this.
I tried it few time to switch between Night and Off settings and with Night setting 720p60 videos lagged always and with Day or Off videos ran just fine with F1xy and Balanced profile.
I don't get it why changing a color temperature would cause something like this but at least I found a way to reproduce the issue.
So could someone else try and reproduce this issue:
1. Go to Settings --> Display --> LiveDisplay --> Display Mode --> Choose Night
2. Try some 1080p60 or 720p60 Youtube video.
3. If you get lags, change the LiveDisplay to Off or Day and try again.
Cheers.

What kind of lag you are getting? I've used LiveDisplay since day 1 and there is no lag annoying enough to me. I am using F2FS file system though. And horrible battery drain when screen off (1% per hour) with ForceDoze and Wi-Fi off.

Missing frames. Video jerks/skips. This can happen every 2 secs or every 10ish secs. Forcing CPU min and max freq to the same value fixed this as well when I tested.
I suppose it could be something else causing this but definitely LiveDisplay settings activate this (for me) when I tested my hypothesis few times yesterday.
There are different revisions of Mipad so this might not be issue for everyone.
And this also explains why usually after few days this always started happening to me when I flashed a new rom. I probably activated LiveDisplay after few days of use...

Yeah, it could be something specific for your MiPad or software set up.
Out of topic question, but do you experience same battery drain too when screen is off (around 1% per hour?)

I think this has to be a LOS14 issue cos I have had the same jerking in all highwaystar based roms and the new smoke LOS14. I just can't confirm now that if the LiveDisplay was the issue in those roms. But I bet it was cos I started using it not so long ago.

Naah mate. Atm I have pretty decent deep sleep behaviour. I am running crDroid 3.6 and Fixy 0.93beta iirc.

Ah, shoot. So we are talking about totally different thing. I had the impression that you are using LOS 14.1 Smoke, my bad. Personally I had no issue with LOS 14.1 for YouTube even using LiveDisplay. Just that annoying battery drain.
Btw, is there any bug for CrDroid (other than non working camera)? Because if turning LiveDisplay will give no lag YouTube, plus great sleep behavior I'd rather flash that instead.

I was using LOS14 Smoke just awhile ago but the nagging youtube lag appeared ( I presume cos I started using LiveDisplay) and yeah there was some weird deep sleep issues with that rom. Check pic.
crDroid is pretty much like any other off-shoot of highwaystars los14, so it has artifacts and no camera and you probably need to use custom kernel at some point. Atm i am going to stay on it until something with better battery optimization comes along.
And I am still not 100% sure that LiveDisplay is the ultimate cause of my YT lag. But I bet it has something to do with it cos it was so clear yesterday when changing to night mode --> YT lagged, turning it off --> YT no lags. But for now I'll keep using the mipad without the night mode and see what comes in my way...

[dev support please] CMOD 5.0.5.3+ display batrery killer.

I figured I'd make this its own thread after speaking with several people with the same problems using a CMOD 5.0.5.3+ rom. This wasn't a problem in lower editions from what I can remember in testing.
Idk but I believe it is something in the kernel affecting this problem with the display hogging my battery. Even after flashing an undervolted kernel I still can only last 24 hours with an extended life battery, vs a weeks time before. And the display problem has been like this in all CMODS test .6 Roms as well so idk if it is in the process of getting fixed or simply overlooked. And other Rome work well but are slower it seams.
The display settings doesn't matter auto or manual its about the same. So devs what can we do to find the change or what can I do to help?

I'm running test 3 of 5.0.6. Today i read a book with fbreader for around 2hrs on it whilst on the train, had 2 30 minute phone conversations, around 20 texts, a dozen gtalk messages, and played blackjack for about 20 mins. i'm also using pershoots OCUV kernal, and after 11hrs without being plugged in I am at 75% battery. I'm happy with that.
I think it is a work in progress, as each new build comes out it's better. His testing builds are just that - testing. None of his release builds I have ever had an issue with either, although maybe my phone ue is a lot less than others I dunno. All i can say is i've never been tempted with another rom since early days on my magic phone Cyanogen rocks!

Nope, I have it on auto-detect, so quite bright when on the train and outdoors. I have setCPU (market, paid) running and set battery profiles - although I haven't hit them yet. I have it set to max 1.1ghz 100% to 50%, 998mhz from 50% to 40%, 776mhz from 40% to 30%, and under 30% to 500 and something.
I do use an app called autostarts (market, paid) and have set everything but system services/apps to not run on any kind of state change or startup. I use Advanced Task Killer to kill apps as soon as I finish with them.
But i've had all these for ages, I just think a big improvement on the last release test 3
Nandroid your existing and try out test3.
I've been experiencing the same symptoms with my battery usage generally dominated by the display. I'm using a UV kernel currently (intersectravens) so we will see if the same happens.
KingKlicks's DESIRE rom doesnt have the same problem it seems and the battery usage is much better.
Wondering if there is a underlying issue.
after .6 test 3 the battery has improved decently, still the display is hogging battery life more so than in the sense rom
Same thing here... Display totally kills the battery with CM5.0.5.3 and OC/UV kernel. Phone rarely lasts over a day with moderate to low usage...
Without usage I can barely get a days use :s
I get the impression that its not the display. I can have 50% display usage, sleep my phone while playing a MP3 and then have more than 50% usage... suggesting that its either he display+something in one category , or there is a bug.
The stock ROM always showed display at the highest usage also. I'm not saying that there isn't an issue, but remember that those numbers are all relative.
I'll say this: I charge nightly to prevent my battery "deep cycling"....That being said I un-plug at 8am and plug-in at about 11p-12a, I use my phone a TON.....usually when I plug in I have about 45-55%.....Not bad at all.....
I originally thought display being the main battery hog was a bad thing.....Then I thought about it a bit......
Would you rather the "system" use more batt? Cell Stand by?
Display (by all rights) should use most battery. More usage=Less time with a fully charged battery.....
Im using CM 5.0.5.3 and I switched Roms after using the stock for 3 months. As soon as I moved to CM I immediatly noticed the battery life was lower than before. I hope you find an issue to this problem ASAP.......I love your ROMs CM, but I love my battery life even more
Good luck with this !!
"display" = gpu acceleration and actual amoled power
Something else i just noticed, very odd. I had 41% display and 23% spotify.... i had been playing for music for a while (offline only). When i quit the spotify app... the entry from the battery usage vanished and display took a spike to 65% ish... really odd. Almost display is showing usage for a group of things.

Ignore any figures people quote - battery life is always relative. One persons 'usual' usage is different than yours. A friend of mine brings his N1 to works and it sits on his desk syncing email - he gets 1 full day.
I bring mine, sync 2 accounts, play a lot of podcasts, have a RSS syncer going and use twitter and FB loads, i get a LOT less.
Dont worry to much, your usage figures are pretty normal depending on your usage patterns.
They say your mileage may vary for a reason
Battery Life
My Battery life has always sucked. Maybe I should buy a new Battery?
If I take my phone off the charger at 7:30, and don't plug it in all day, then I will be at about 30% or less by the time I get home at around 5:30. Unless I don't use it. But I use my phone to play stream music pretty much all day. Or at least 4 hours. One day I forgot my USB cable and I was below 20% by 3:00.
It is still better than iSuck, I mean iPhone, and worse than a BlackBerry. I have electricity everywhere though, a car charger, and an extra battery is like 25$?
So what is the big deal? You have the equivalent of a desktop computer from like 2002 in your pocked running off of a batter the size of a credit card, how long do you really want the thing to last anyway?

Lag/Stutter after 24 hours

Hi all, I am wondering if anyone is experiencing this same issue. First I will say my phone is rooted and that is my only change to the device from a stock perspective. I am also only using Google apps at this time (except for XDA and BBC news).
The issue I am having is even out of the box and post rooting my device, the phone is stellar and is fluid and responsive. At around the 24 hour mark, usually when I wake up... The phone is laggy and has screen hiccups/stutters. A simple reboot and the issue is gone for another 24 hours. But will always come back.
I've looked at battery usage and nothing is out of the ordinary. I've looked at running processes via terminal and I can not come up with anything. During times of lag it seems the phone is near idle with regards to CPU and memory. Doesn't make sense.
Question is, is this a case of the bloat or is this a wide spread issue? Is there a way to diagnose this further?
The phone does lag and stutter. Some people say they don't experience it, others say they do.

Agreed, I'm just curious why it goes away after a reboot, then 24 hours later its back. It's almost like something is getting hung up or building up to where it begins to lag. The other thing I thought about was if it has something to do with the screen being off for x amount of hours and going into a lower fps/resolution/CPU, etc to save on battery. I saw that thread about battery saving feature and lowering fps. Would make some sense of it all. I'm hesitant to apply the workaround and keep a static 60fps.

Temperature issues??? CM12.1 (MT2-L03)

Since I use this ROM, note that when using WiFi for a while the top of my phone starts to warm, the same happens when I upgrade the CM-ROM from the recovery. Someone happens something similar? any solution? otherwise I will have to return to the B322 (sorry for my bad english)
Noone else has reported any heating issues. Mine runs nice and cool.

I use PAC-ROM (derived from CM baseline) and have sometimes noticed (but not recently) that my phone to feel excessively warm.
You should try reporting/posting the phone's temperature using an app like CPU-Z https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cpuid.cpu_z
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/o..._8J_NVf_G0QstFgVvadkbWAzMZCnz3dR9obBm-FM=h900
and I should do the same next time my phone feels warm.
I did not make note of the CPU-Z reported temperature when the phone felt warm previously.
Currently, the warmest temperature from the CPU-Z Thermal tab is 31 degC / 114 degF, but I have not been using the phone for a while now.
By the way, I would not be surprised if the phone does get warmer then normal when you are flashing ROMs, because I'm sure it takes more power to flash the ROM devices. Take note of the temperature (screen snapshot CPU-Z thermal tab) before and after flashing and I'm sure you will see the evidence substantiating that.
I have an issue where the top of my phone (where the speaker is) will get warm if the screen has been on for a long time. I remember some other people complaining about this back when these forums first opened, so you're not the only one with this issue.
However, our issue is when the screen is on for a long time or when the brightness is set to the max. I never heard of this heating issue with wifi.
I see that at the moment there is no solution to this problem. The only temporary solution I found is to download the application Coolify to regulate the temperature of the device. Thanks for the answers.

I dismissed that since that would obviously happen. He said after flashing. So i was concentrating on that. Nothing on CM or Pac threads about it that I know of. Do you remember anyone saying it in those? As to link it to CM or pac? There is no voltage control for WiFi. They use vendor blobs so there isnt really anything to cause this in the rom itself. Or maybe i Misread where he said it was a rom that caused it? Not thinking straight at the moment with my health crap. Keep me straight. lol

You are right. This occurs when the display is illuminated for a long time , but in my case the brightness is not 100%. When I update the CM- ROM from the recovery, the temperature rises to the heavens. I do not like that. I use Cyandelta
@4l3x15, 40-50 celcius is normal. Its expected to go up if playing games, watching videos, or doing a specific mod which pulls in resources. I installed today's CM nightly via cyandelta. Temp started at 42 degrees celcius and while installing it didn't go no higher than 46 degrees celcius. This is normal temperatures for this device. "To the heavens" is a bit extreme lol. Feel free to compare with stock 4.3 and 5.1 temps.

I compared : 4.3 < 5.1 < CM (° C )
When I have time I'll upload screenshots , CM makes the temperature increases more than the stock ROM . I have to see if this increase affects the hardware over time.

How do you plan to do that (see the effect of hardware higher temperature over time - CM vs stock ROM)?

Heat

Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Rate this thread to express the extent to which the OnePlus 8 Pro stays cool under extended heavy use. A higher rating indicates that even when playing strenuous games for long periods of time, the phone doesn't get uncomfortably warm.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
No complaints really here but noticed it running warmer than my Exynos Notebultra 20. By a Celsius under my regular usage patterns.
Here's my GSAM temp charts.
We've recently entered Spring here in Australia. Using the phone outdoors on the weekend in 34 degree temperature and full sun, my phone would overheat and prompt me to shut down services after about 5 minutes of casual use (web browsing and background services only). I removed the genuine cover which helped a little, but still frequently overheating. This phone is useless if it can't be used outside...

Yeah, I've got same issues. Left couple of times in UTE and every single time it switched off due to high temperature. I did not have issues with another brands. Top dollar useless phone.
When I experienced the temperature issue I was running OB2. I'm now running the stable build, and it seems a little better (though I need to do more testing). What version of the OS are you running?

Gonna have to chime in on this one. Coming from the 7 pro I was expecting better.
Have had some quirks with this phone still working on one being it likes to not wake the screen up now and then right away. Annoying but the only real gripe is that when I record a video... Jesus that overheats it.
4k @30fps screen brightness half, 120hz, qhd. Overheats around 930 to 11 on the dot.
Brightness down does nothing
60hz and fhd allows me to keep recording after it overheated (meaning it will stay under the line of what's the redline for overheating with the screen turned down even if I just bounced the flash off)
For kickers I threw it into 1080 p mode @30 and she **** flash down around 5!!!!!
Honestly the main gripe I have with this thing is the overheat issue when recording and the camera on the 7pro beats the 8 pro

Glad the OnePlus 8 Pro now beats the 7 Pro...
After my msm full reflash I can now use stock camera without overheat issues! But I'm still cycling between the 2. After the msm restore and a new kernal I'm now as cool as my 7pro and am finally happy last report back

Question App permissions resetting upon restarting the phone?

I've noticed that when I restart my phone the permissions on some apps reset, has anyone experienced this problem?

Also another problem for me is my SOT seems kind of low I barely reach 5 hours of using it only for Instagram, no gaming, and the battery drainage during sleep is high I noticed that 10% go out just by sitting. I've tried installing greenify but it crashes the phone. I might go and look for other options such as universal GMS doze if it works, but I am beginning to be disappointed, my ZF6 died after 3 years of usage due to motherboard issue and now this one shows some issues.
I was very disappointed with this phone. I had 2 pieces, I gave them both away. Developers are weak. I reported a lot of bugs, they didn't solve anything.
