Swift 2X sim drawer gadget - Wileyfox Swift 2 Questions & Answers

Hi all, I have just rec'd a new Swift 2X. It doesn't come (or it hasn't come) with the little gadget that opens up the simcard "drawer". I'm loath to stick a needle or some such into the little hole. Yes I've written to Wiley Fox (about this and another topic) and not received any reply other than the auto generated reply.
So my question is, should it come with the gadget and if not, how did everyone else get into their sim drawer?

If you mean the sim ejector tool, it should always come with the device. It's inside the orange/black kinda sleeve that contains the paperwork.

Deodex Disaster
by Thundercles
I dedicate this story to the fact that I have finally for the first time ever been sold an extended warranty/protection plan that I didn't feel ****ed me somehow in the end.
first off tl;dr is; I could really really use a photon 4g box. If I get one within the next week or so I can get a brand new phone and not have to worry about unbricking mine, which should be more then entirely possible to unbrick, just a pain, and actually is close to impossible to unbrick until I get a working battery since no flash utils will run without a well-charged battery. If you have the box left over from when you got the photon 4g and you could part with it, let me know, I'd love you long time. If you are in the phoenix area and you could part with a photon 4g box PM me your phone number and I'll call you and come to you wherever in the entire extended phx metro area you are in to get it. I just drove to freakin Anthem from Tempe to buy a battery that doesn't quite fit. All thos sites that say the BH5X battery fits in the electrify/photon are damn liars btw, it so doesn't.
I will type the sad story of how I thought I remembered how to manually deodex correctly and as a result just went for it only to find out that my memory ****ed a step up somewhere in there, maybe left one out altogether cause when I rebooted it wouldn't go past the inital screen, probably cause it wasn't able to load the framework and app directories thanks to my shenengins. To make matters worse right in the middle of this crisis is when my battery desides to completely **** a brick itself and is fully unresponsive in every way shape or form and will hold maybe 10 seconds worth of charge if you are in fastboot mode, but wont even be able to draw enough charge to display anything on the screen unless plugged into the wall. Ya battery is beyond toast, Went to exchange it with my protection plan from best buy and they informed me that things with that protection plan are handled by mailing out the defunct whatevers and getting the new ones mailed back, but that since I am within my initial 30 days their exchange policy would allow me to just trade the whole kit and kaboodle in for a brand new still in the box and shrink wrapped photon. This was the more attractive option since I wouldn't have to unbrick it and the battery would be brand new and any damage I may have done would be undone.
Problem is box got thrown away, it's not my fault either I specifically said that the box should be kept for now, but didn't feel up to fighting any battles over it that day and now have screwed myself royally as a result of my pacifism. The box specifically is what the chick was being anal about, I'm susppsing cause of the barcode sticker on it. If you are the angel who winds up giving me a box so I can just go to best buy and do the exchange rather then mail my battery in and wait, don't worry I can remove your sticker in tact and remount it on some card-stock for you or something. I'll just want to scan it real fast first to construct the template for my replica sticker containing my phones info. Got all kinds of specialized printers, barcode fonts, sticker maker, envelope label sticers, got everyting I need to make this replica just need a box to put it on.
So charging the battery via stripping the wires on the USB cable method won't work? Our your battery is completely fried?
I got a box, I will PM you (Screw it, I dont want to type twice) David Sims, e-mail me your addy and phone at [email protected]. It should arrive monday!
I have 2 boxes because something (long story) happen to my original Photon, Insurance company sent me new one in box, but I still have the original box. Both are on the dresser in my bedroom because I'm too lazy to put it in the living room closet where the boxes to all my other electronic s**t is!!
I posted a guide on how to fix this type of brick, by jumping the battery.

sou like it was meant to be being as how my situation is really the inverse if you think about it. (need extra box or no insurance payout ) I am e-mailing the info to that gmail, adding to google talk, and G+ while I'm at it. I've been thinking about trying to found a NPO vcard/profile storage server so you could make yourself a vCard with all your relevent contact list and online profiling info along with security and privacy permiters so you could could give and get contact info from people that's all-inclusive instead of having all these people on android devices constantly smsing each other when they could be talking in google talk, thus getting more options like group messaging and putting less strain on the network, and you could set up your online profile ONCE and import it to all your freakin forum accounts, social networking accounts, torrent tracker accounts, anything that forces you to make an account and thus have a profile of some sort that you will probably not do a damn thing with because of how unneccesarily tedious it would be. Anyone know of any good grants for that kind of thing ? Or any drugs that make you actually stay on topic.

Any way to get rid of the microSD card connected notification?

Hi everyone
What the title says. Since I am planning on having the microSD card permanently plugged into the prime, I really don't want to see that notification. Is it possible to get rid of it? Like in my galaxy s2 when I plug in the microSD card it gives me a quick notification and then goes away.

Yes. It is.
But you'll have to root, unlock you bootloader (void your warranty), and install custom/tweaked software. For the moment at least, and I doubt ASUS is changing any of its UI quirks. They're design choices which reflect how they (TW) feel about mobile tech IMO it seems as though they don't do the Western "bigger is better" but more of "the less I carry the better," I think they expect you to have one universal mSD card that you move about as needed. I think they generally expect you to just use the internal SD card and stream most everything else; but that's why we get unlocks and custom software.
Short answer, just deal with it until you're willing to void the warranty (a year?) and then install a custom ROM which looks and performs to your liking.
I agree with OP. How about headphones notification too?
Do other launchers not change anything?
I'm ok stock and the notifications don't drive me too mad, so I haven't tried. Don't guess that would change the behavior of the notification area though would it?
Same with the dock. I know my dock is plugged in.
I also have a 32 GB microSD that I leave in all the time. I think it would be nice if the notification could be 'reversed' (i.e. the notification would show when there is no microSD inserted). This way you would get no notification while the thing is inserted but if the microSD out it accidentally comes out you would get a notification saying it wasn't inserted. I have heard at least 3 cases where people have lost their microSD card from it accidentally coming out. A notification saying that the microSD isn't inserted may help prevent people from losing the little things.

Look up the app Tasker and you can create an alarm when the mSD ejects. I think Lock-N-Load mentioned this?

It would be cool if it sounded off a lengthy notification sound too.

Yep. The notifications need to go.
I agree that they are way overkill, and for the present unlocking bootloader/flashing ROMs isn't practical, even if there WAS a ROM that addressed this. I am not sure that there is such an animal, but it is likely to be on any ROM chef's short list.
In my case, as with a lot of folks, I have the full monty of 3 relatively useless notifications for the 2 removable storage devices and the dock. I just love the helpful little hint that Asus has provided, telling me to use the keyboard "to type words" - I was so confused as to what to do with all those letter keys prior to that really useful tip!
I disagree that Asus is not likely to change it; I think they would be VERY willing to change it, perhaps to the method that Samsung uses as previously posted. But if we don't let them KNOW we want the change, then it isn't going to go anywhere. They may think they did a nice piece of design work there, and will continue to think so until the end users make them aware that it is generally, okay universally unloved.
Despite their ever increasing size, Asus has a small enough company culture that these kinds of changes are still possible in a reasonable time frame. I suggested some corrections to the horrendous English translations on their WebStorage Page, and not only did they make the changes, they asked me if there were any other language issues on the site. Seeing as I am not on the Asus payroll, LOL, I declined the offer to help them correct everything. Besides, I am no English Masters Degree language translation specialist, which is what they need.
One idea I had is to as Gary Key via a PM, how we should direct bug reports and feature requests, since we have the good fortune to have a Asus presence here in the forums. If I get a direct answer or any specific info, I will try to post it and ask it to be stickied.

Yep, I use Tasker to play a notification song that can only be stopped if I interact with the tablet and it pops an ALERT! notification icon. So, you will know instantly.

That being said. Apply a sticker across the back of your SIM and tray, fusing them together snuggly to prevent movement of the SIM, resulting in a SIM error from, what I strongly believe, lack of contact between SIM and reader. Pretty much faulty hardware in all of our HOX+'s. No it is not related to "Rom flashing, kernel install, bricking, rooting, dropping, shaking, eating, digesting, virus, porn, cheating on spouse, exposure to high intensity gamma rays produced from a prototype ray gun, assembled to destroy the world in Mojo Jojo's Lair, or any other possibilities other then a mistake made by HTC.
Awaiting your attempt to justify the need create a seperate thread.

DO NOT ATTEMPT THE "SD CARD + DUAL SIM" Mod on the Note 7!

It has so far been a nightmare, I'm sick, tired and I pray and hope that this doesn't happen to anyone else so I thought to let you guys know. This has nothing to do with the wonderful device nor Samsung, The entire fault is on me. Just me.
Do not attempt the Dual Sim + SD mod on the Note 7. I had it up and running perfectly on my Galaxy S7 Edge and I sold it to move on to the Note 7. Pre-ordered it in Dubai and purchased it right on the launch day August 3rd at 12.01 AM, most likely this is the first ever unit sold to an end User across the whole world. The device was fantastic, the leaks didn't do any justice, the real thing was way more awesome. Drew a lot of attention from strangers, especially when unlocking through the IRIS scanner. It was a whole new experience.
Didn't set it up, kept it on its special place at home waiting for the spigen I ordered to come as I didn't wanna risk scratches on the shiny unit.
Yesterday morning...., I swear if I had a time machine I'd go back...
I tried to put the Hybrid Sim + MicroSD card which I was using on the S7 Edge to the Note 7. I wish I had a save point to go back and revert this. The sim fit on the tray perfectly and slipped right in with much ease than it was on the S7 Edge. Worked like a charm, both stable, images in showed up, signals showed up. Done. My mod still works. Yeay.
Not so much.
Then I decided to remove it, as the phone is still not being used, let’s leave it aside for the spigen to come.
Tried to remove the tray again from the phone, so that I can defrag the microSD before putting it again. Makes the damned gallery load fast. Took the sim pin in the box, inserted through the hole in tray.. Not going in. Tight. Crap. It's a bit tighter than S7 Edge. Pushed it a little bit more inside, uh-huh, not going in. Applied a bit of force and damn it!!!!! The pin went right through like lightning, pushing whatever in ahead of its way. The sim ejection mechanism, the rubber thing you see under the hole of the sim tray was gone. Probably fell in to the inside of the phone. Sim tray didn't move a bit, still in its place. My hands trembled, heart stopped and I just sat there looking at it for a mere decade. I just couldn't believe what just happened, the shiny brand new phone.. Already broken beyond use, my own damned fault. Tried the sim pin again, doesn't even shake the tray. It's just jammed stuck in there. with the Hybrid SIM
Walked right into the Samsung store in the Mall, and the technician's held on to the phone for a few seconds looking at it having a hard time to believe what has happened. Must've thought what a clumsy ass I am, shiny brand new Note 7, not even available for regular customers who didn’t pre-order and he's already receiving one for repair. Might've been the world's first. I used all the Note devices down the line, you will find my posts in all the Note forums in XDA, and in my life this is the first time ever I walked into a Samsung Service Centre. The guy couldn't repair it, and told me in a disappointing tone that he doesn't even know how to open it up and even the tools are not available for it. Darn it. Wish I could slap myself across the face so that I’d wake up from this nightmare. Nope it's real. He’s reasoning was legit, even he was depressed and motionless. It’s too early for even a technician to know how to open this up. He didn’t give up, gave me an address to a main service center of Samsung.
Told me to take it to the main service Centre, and walked out with utter disappointment, my heart already sunken in, legs and hands still trembling. Main Centre was closed at that time, had to stay another day to know the fate and consequences of my mistake. After a long sleepless night, Got to the Service center, was there as soon as it opened. Gave the phone in, even the coordinator lady was surprised, such a new phone, and what have you done?
I know.
Got a rap sheet for the new phone, accepting for repair. Deep mistakes highlighted... Misuse, Warranty Void... Good Gosh. This is a nightmare. It will take 3 days Sir, We will call you when it’s done. It will be repaired, not replaced.
Repairs doesn’t do good to the water resistance of the device. Cannot drop it in water again. Never had a repaired phone in my life, but by experience I've seen a lot, they squeak and creek after being assembled again. It’s a goner. Just like that. One foolish attempt, and drained 3k just in a matter of minutes. Probably the world's first epic fail on Note 7. Can't imagine how the faces of the Samsung Service team would look, when they see what's stuck inside the phone. A MicroSD, uh.... no Wait, There's a sim on the back of it.... What! the heck is this ?
TL;DR - Word of Advice, Don’t jump into risky mods. Don’t ever attempt the SD Card + SIM mod on the Note 7. I've already risked my device, don't risk another device. It's a fabulous device out of the box, use it as it is.
Cheers Guys!
Damn man, I can't imagine how crappy you must feel right now about this. Hopefully your phone comes back in a good condition and you can possibly sell it and buy a new model.
another word of advice: if you're thinking about trying to defrag your SD card, don't. it doesn't improve storage speed and will shorten your SD's life.

If you used a credit card to purchase your phone, it should be covered against accidental damage for 90-120 days.

P9000 unreliable rubbish - Worst phone I've had ?

I bought this phone based on my Father in Law's
P5000 and thought after much research that they would only have improved the series... Specwise the P9000 should be great... The Sony 13 Megapixel camera should be awesome.. It gsm surprised me a few times in perfect conditions but anything indoors where you want to capture the moment my advice would be to use anther camera, another phone or do a quick sketch with your eyes closed....
The fact that the phone can't keep a SIM card or Sdcard in place is a major problem and means that you cannot rely I the phone if you want it as a means of communication. I have tried the tape solution, taking the SIM to the tray and the tray to the phone, without much success. BTW I have found a permanent workaround to the annoying "do you want to change the default write disk" error message that came up everyone I turned the phone on (you take the Sdcard out of the phone and put it in a drawer, then use the phone without the Sdcard - no more error message).
And now my home button is not working so I am forced to use the nav bar
Currently asking for an RMA for about the 4th time.
I cannot advise people more to avoid this phone and this company

ok, also what rom are you using? im thinking about at least staying with stock rom for a week to see how it goes, ill change to RR or CM12.1 if i feel necessary, im also problably going to port a few stock roms from certain devices with same chipset just to see if its easy to port like on my other phone that had the MT6753 CPU..
im using CM13 its pretty sick
I have had the phone over 6 months - was getting the sdcard issue frequently in beginning but since updated to CM13 its very rare. Fantastic cheapo phone.
A great phone IMO. The ONLY time I got the sim card message was before I moved it to the second (dedicated) sim card slot and not the dual slot (dual for either sdcard or sim). No problems at all, all on original as it came to me with OTA updates only.
From your current signature, you have messed with your ZTE Kis also.......................
