Unofficial domanx kernel by Saber - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I didn't want to clutter the dev thread by asking a question that's technically been answered.
I'm using this kernel https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...tives/kernel-dorimanx-kernel-los14-1-t3641994 by @Saber and tbh I'm enjoying it. Unfortunately, it only officially supports LOS.
While LOS is stable as a daily driver, at least to me, there are some features of other roms that I'd like to have.
I just wanted to know if anyone has tried this kernel with other Nougat roms, and which roms work with this. I've tried AOKP (and XenonHD iirc) but i ended up in a bootloop. Has anyone tried it with other roms? If so, which roms work and are therr any issues? Thanks a lot!

It will only work with lineage and lineage based ROMs. Not with AOSP, AOKP, or PA.
I DO NOT PROVIDE HELP IN PM, KEEP IT IN THE THREADS WHERE EVERYONE CAN SHARE

Thank you for your answer. I was hoping it might work on AOKP since the rom is based on LOS and AOSP. So i guess I'll have to use a rom based on AOSP only.

Small error. You should only use ROMs based purely on LineageOS. Any rom other than LineageOS will not get support so if something breaks, you'd be on your own
Kind regards, Josh

Oops. Typo. My apologies. I meant roms based solely on LOS, not AOSP. :silly:
And yes, i completely understand that it's not supported. And that i can't expect help (at least not officially) since your thread is clear. i respect that. I'm just trying to get info on what roms work with this. Biggest factor is that N roms with their stock kernels tend to give me issues (no deep sleep even when screen is off. Even LOS used to do that which is why i went back to KK). Your kernel fixed it, so i plan on using it for other roms that work with it.

Cyanogenmod 10.1 DNA discussion thread

As stated in the cm 10.1 dev thread lets keep the general CM discussions here instead of cluttering the dev thread.
Great idea - now we can have all the misguided, misinformed speculation we want as to what hurdles have yet to be cleared before the DNA gets official CM nightly support
jk
Haha, exactly.
Actually, I think efforts might soon be underway to port straight AOSP as well I hope what I've heard (I can't give details, so please don't ask) comes to fruition.
That'd be great. I've been trying to learn more about programming and the build system so I can start helping out with some of it. I've setup ubuntu and sync and build cm every couple of days and I've been messing with building aokp since its based on cm.
AOKP, PA, PAC ROMs me want
Also some AOSP kernels as well
Sent from my TF300T using Tapatalk 2
I made a few changes and aokp started to build but I came across an error and haven't had time to look into it. If I get it built I'll try to learn some more about git and upload the source

Because a lot of popular ROMs out there are based on AOSP rather than on CM. Besides, there's always room for both right?
I'd love to try pure AOSP. I've always had HTC devices so I never got the pure Android experience.

because I want android and not all the stuff that comes with CM, if I want themes and mods ill do them myself
Does anyone have any resources that break down the build process?
I'm pretty excited for the 10.1 rom to become a daily driver. Once it's complete I hope to see possible other roms that are desensed... I'm sick of sense! I want some unadulterated android (or close to it)!
why would you want an aosp kernel? how are they better?

Sense kernels won't work on aosp and the stock one they included in CM can't be overclocked or undervolted.

The kernel we are using right now is our stock kernel with cm commits. It doesn't include overclock or any other features because they could cause more bugs. Better to work all the bugs out of cm before you start doing things that could introduce more. Cplamer has already said that he has run a custom kernel with cm on his DNA so it is definitely going to happen. Just have to wait or build your own kernel unfortunately.

The other reason is because they're making so many changes to cm right now to get it working that a new kernel would have to be released for every update. I believe T1gartist has been running cm oc'd with a custom kernel as well

If you have the source it's not hard to add overclocking.

Can u upload the build.
I wud like to test it out.
What all features are working ? Are all" Whats Working" features CM10.1 working for it ?
Sorry for asking all these questions.
BTW, u should create a new thread in Orig. Android Dev. with AOKP build :victory:

How does OmniROM compare to CyanogenMOD 11?

I'm thinking about switching over to OmniROM, but I want to know the advantages and disadvantages between OmniROM and CyanogenMod 11. I heard that it can run 2 apps at once with multi-tasking. Is this with every application that I have, or only certain ones? Is OmniROM as stable as CM11, and as feature complete?
How hard is it to flash them both and then make up your own mind??
I can't see why this would warrant a thread.

What rom best rom posts are not allowed .
Are you unable to read the roms thread???
You have enough posts to ask in the thread .
I'm not asking which is best, (as that is completely subjective); I am asking what the differences are between the two ROMs.
Omni rom is in early stages but so is Cm11. Like as said above... you really need to read the threads and flash for you're self. Both great roms and both worth a flash

What may be an advantage for one person, may be a complete disadvantage for another so it's still subjective no matter how you try and slice it.
We certainly don't need a new thread created for this... Try them both and decide for yourself.

Do any of the ROMs available for the 5x include native signature spoofing support, like Omnirom does? Thanks!

For microG to work properly, one has to use Xposed or a patch like Tingle by @ale5000 in order to spoof the signature of a bunch of google play services. That is, unless they use Omnirom, which allows it to work out of the box. See the thread here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-microg-gmscore-floss-play-services-t3217616

There's another link in that thread (the one that says "read here about why it's not") that probably explains how sigspoofing works better than I ever could. But I'm wondering if RR or anything incorporates that particular feature of Omnirom

well, omni is based on aosp, and rr is based on lineage, they has their differences
If you have a know-how/resources, you can manually patch necessary repos and build ROM yourself (I did that for Slim builds on my previous device), commits are available on gerrit, you'll just have to fix some merge conflicts... CM didn't want to support that on CM12.1 (I remember discussion from their gerrit back then), others followed their example, so I guess that is current state of things on Lineage and other CM based ROMs even now...

I thought I read somewhere that more recent Omni 6/7 builds have been somewhat based on CM as well. Not that that would stop Omni from including sigspoofing, but I guess this is more a question whether RR includes that aspect of Omni in our device's unofficial RR release despite it being based on Lineage

I definitely have neither the knowhow nor the resources. :silly:

I guess if I want this sort of support consistently, I'll have to choose my next device based on Omnirom availability...

Well, if I ever decide to start working on kiwi, I'll probably patch necessary stuff, you can count on that.. But I still haven't even unlocked and rooted mine (in case I suddenly decide to resell it/replace for something with bit more regular updates - still haven't decided anything, not too happy with software and official support, but to lazy to anything about it).... Who knows when will that happen.
P.S. use multiquote to reply to multiple posts at once

Youll probably never find any solace in official support/EMUI. Rumor has it that an official Nougat will be released at some point, but my only foray into Nougat gave me horrible battery life. I'm pretty happy with MM.

"At some point" can be deep into 2017 or never but ok, I'm used to that, had a LG device which suddenly went out-of-support after not even full year of life. And it was a flagship. I'd be glad if even monthly patches are kind of regular... just dreams, haha.

Include the patch is really simple for any ROM, it doesn't depend on anything particular, it is just a choice of the one that build it.
The official patches are here.

No, you didn't ask anything, there are no question marks in the OP.
The kernel source its there, Android source is there too. Go build yourself a ROM.
The closest right now is LineageOS, you can find it on Development section

1st of all who the hell asked you to build ??
So why are you doing this show off.if devs want to build they will. We are here to give our opinion and suggestion.
How about we all take a chill pill and relax a little for a bit. There are clear misunderstandings from posts that could have been worded more clearly, so we'll leave it at that.
As for AOSP roms running smoother than CM/LOS, CM/LOS is based on AOSP. Speed in roms is different the type of changes that are implemented into the rom, like how AOSPA is using LTO throughout their repos. Some AOSP roms add in compiler optimizations to speed up performance (like AOSPA), but it will cause regressions on certain devices with older/faulty hardware. Just my 2 cents, overall, performance on CM/LOS is not much different than any other AOSP rom out there, since they're essentially the same when it's down to the basics.

Smoothest/Most Stable Rom

Hey there Guys!
Which is the best Rom for Remi Kate atm?
Thanks in advance
LOS13 by GismoZ is by far the most stable and smooth rom for our device. It's based on MM though. My second pick would be LOS14.1 or Nougat AEX. :good:
These threads can be considered offensive and disrespectful against developers though.
