Update to 7.1.1 or not? - Moto Z Questions & Answers

Hi guys,
I recently bought Moto Z and I'm satisfied with everything that it has to offer.
Software channel is reteu,android 7.0,NPLS25.86-30-12.
I just received an update to 7.1.1,should I take it?
What is your experience? The battery life is better, worse, the same...? Anything new? Everything is working? Is it worth it?

I have a bad experience with the new moto actions on shrink screen. The new way to shrink the display is just very odd

I'm firmly on the side of NOT!!
I updated last night and the ota has bricked my phone. the message I am getting is:
" Start up failed: Your device didn't start up successfully. use the software repair assistant on computer to repair your device. connect your device to your computer to get the software repair assistant"
Motorola/Lenovo Chat help are worse than useless, even after knowing what had happened they asked me to go into the main screen of the phone ....twice!
HELLLPPPP!!!

Check out this https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z/how-to/how-to-update-to-official-7-1-1-moto-z-t3640298

I took the install and it is working great; however, I would like to note, after I installed the update, I had a few issues with Twitter and some other apps. After the install, I did a factory reset and then re-loaded my apps. At least for my Moto Z, v7.1.1 is a very solid update.

If you live in Europe, do not update.

No LTE in Austria, sound equilizer not working, GPS losing connection issues....
Dont update

Wow,so many "don't's"...

I updated mine 2 weeks ago and it works perfectly fine. There's no abnormal behavior, battery life is good, camera great, very smooth.

I live in Europe and everything seems good. ROM is very smooth, GPS works fine, I don't have problems with LTE. Unfortunately LiveDisplay was't added. I recommend doing factory reset

I updated mine, then the next day the phone powered itself off after being fully charged. I turn it back on, it did it again twice while I was using it. I got lucky enough to do a cache wipe which seems to have solved it, but I don't see how these bugs are making it in. I'd be hesitant to install it.

I did the install yesterday after pondering the update. After one reboot everything is running status quo. It seems the majority of the issues everyone's having is not states side (U.S.A.).

LG v10 Bricked After LG Software Update (Error: Unfortunately, Smart Notice stopped)

Hi All,
Just received my unlocked LG v10 which I purchased on Ebay from Korea. The phone worked perfectly out of the box and then I got on Wi-Fi and checked for updates, and there was an LG Android system update that supposedly addressed bug fixes and improved the stability of apps so naturally I updated. BIG MISTAKE! Now I get a constant pop-up window loop cycle that says 'Unfortunately, Smart Notice stopped'. I am not allowed to post a link to the video I shot of this happening, but it is on Twitter if you want to see, you can DM me. If I tap OK it just pops up again right away.
Can anyone help me with this? I have done a device reset, I have tried to force quit Smart Notice and cleared its cache but nothing works. Also there is no record of this happening online that I could find.
Really upset that after $1,300 AUD this is my first experience with Android and a flagship phone.
Many thanks if you can help.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have already tried that and it makes no difference. I have also cleared the Smart Notice cache (I can't disable it completely).
Have you tried factory reset or booting into recovery and wiping?

Thanks for your help. I have applied a factory reset, but am unsure how to boot into recovery mode and wiping. I have booted in 'Safe Mode' which disables 3rd party apps but the problem persists. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Also I have downloaded the LG Tools but it does not recognise that the phone is connected and there is no option in the settings menu (which is accessible in between quick taps of the warning message) to mount it as a USB drive.
I appreciate all the suggestions and help. Many thanks.

I haven't owned an lg phone in a long time but try holding down the volume down and power button at the same time. (from power off) and wipe all caches.

Thanks again. I have tried that and sadly it makes no difference. I think this is related to their latest update as it worked perfectly before that. Is it possible to roll back to a previous version?

Download the LG mobile support tool and hook it up to that. You can re flash the KDZ file from there.

Thanks for the advice. Have downloaded and it says 'No update is available'. I then tried to use the recovery with the phone unplugged and entered the serial and model number, then I plug in the phone but it gives me a warning that the battery isn't sufficiently charged (was at 90%). Currently charing up to 100% to see if that makes a difference and will report back.
Appreciate all the help! What a great forum.

Unfortunately even with battery at 100% and connected to via USB the LG Support Tool still states that there is insufficient battery to perform recovery.

Try taking the battery out and putting it back in. I've run the tool successfully from within android and not download mode so you might want to try that as well.

Thank you so much for your continued help.
I tried both suggestions without success. When not in download mode the phone is not recognised and taking the battery out for 60secs and reinserting it didn't seem to make a difference.
I will post this back to LG Korea today and hope it was just a lemon.

Me too. And that is awesome that yours is about to arrive. I can say that before updating it, the experience was very smooth and I absolutely love the dual displays. I'm annoyed I didn't get a chance to test the camera which is the reason I bought it.
Are you importing one from Korea? Look forward to hearing your thoughts on the phone.
Cheers,
Eliot

I'm buying it for the camera as well. I bought it for 599 at T-Mobile in the US, with overnight shipping it should arrive tomorrow. I was going to get a Nexus 6P but the video camera is brutal on that phone. I've had LG phones since the Nexus 4, then Nexus 5, then G2, G3 and now the V10 will be 5th LG in a row. I really do like the LG experience.
Great. I'm glad to hear of a positive LG experience as mine has been anything but that so far, but I'm sure it will be smooth sailing once this silly issue is resolved.
I have a 6p and Xperia Z5 on order as well, and will keep the one I love most and sell the others. Thanks again for your help.
I got a F600S, bought in Korea on the release day. I got the system update on October 20, and I didn't experience any problems since then. I didn't see any great difference either, I have to say.
On the other hand... I don't like Smart Notice, and in general the LG Launcher, so I switched to Nova Launcher before that date.
Have you tried a different launcher? Hopefully that won't trigger Smart notice and you will be safe for now.

Moto 360 2015 only responsive when phone screen is turned on.

Hi guys,
I recently bought my Moto 360 2nd gen. After 4 weeks, it started to fail pushing messages through. In the beginning, unreliable, now, nothing except for. My step count....
I restart my watch everyday, disconnect and connect with my phone, factory restarted it several times. Only for 15 min, it tends to work, than, the same described above.
Now, I found out, when I wake up my phone it push messages through, and music toggles are working. Messages which are received by my phone before I picked it up will not be pushed through though.
Does anyone can help me with this issue, before I go to ask my money back from Motorola, because I start to get frustrated!
I bought it to leave my phone in my pocket, now, I have it in my hands even more:crying:

hey.. i have the same problem with my moto 360 2015. i dont have any idea what you mean by delete. i have tried everything except phone reset. i tried pairing my watch with my old tablet and everything is working fine. i think it started after the latest security patch on my phone. BTW my phone is note 4 still on lollipop(no marshmallow yet) and not rooted. i need help solving, thanks in advance
update:
I have just found the cause of the problem. It was the new app optimization feature that samsung installed on my device after the latest update. i just disabled the optimization on my AW app.

Note 8 still hasn't received Oreo update

This seems way passed overdue. I've tried manually updating with no luck. Has anyone else been experiencing the same issue?
Same here, smartswitch and ota see nothing. Gonna probably need to use odin to get it done.

Yeah I've tried manually updating. This seems ridiculous that I still haven't received the update; and I'd prefer not to root the phone...
Yes. No update for me either. I heard it's possible the date your imei was activated could impact your update. I activated mine on Feb 14th.
Same. No update. I usually do all updates for apps and system manually. Still nothing...

Temporarly on Hold.
T-Mobile stopped the OTA Oreo update right now for Note 8. This is due to problems with this update. Samsung and Google are working on a fix. Once they fixed the problems then they will resume OTA Oreo update for the Note 8.
I posted this in another thread days ago. If you have questions or you feel there is no problem, since you didn't have any problems this far, then read my post on the other thread.

I charge my phone using the 2.0 amp wireless charger (I have a few scattered around) and I haven't noticed ANY heat change. In fact, I'd say the phone is cooler if anything. When I tried to update to Oreo by connecting to the computer (Smartswitch), I got Error 807******(don't remember) repeatedly, so I gave up and updated OTA.
I got tired of waiting and updated to Oreo via Odin. Haven't noticed any major issues.
I think T-Mobile stopped the OTA update because of battery life. I received the update on April 2nd and battery life is pretty bad for me. I only get 3Hrs 45min screen on time. Deleted a lot of apps that I don't use but didn't help much only get 4hrs screen on time. I also had to turn off Always on Display which I hate to do because I was use to looking at the screen without unlocking the phone.

just got mine update yesterday.
Just got mine, the new build number is CRD7, not really sure what's new compared to the last oreo update, but that 1.3 GB update installed surprisingly fast.

Still no Oreo for me. How about you?

Hi guys,
I'm still on Nougat 7.1.2 with my Swift 2+. I'm waiting for the OTA, don't want to side load if I can help it.
I'm trying to get an idea of the proportion of people that are still waiting for their OTA and those that have already received it.
EDIT: nobody received Oreo via the OTA? oh boy...
I just got the OTA, posting this from Oreo
I manually updated (to check for OTA), and am downloading it now
Updated to 8.1 using the official download and now stuck in boot loop. Fortunately remembered to back up my data first.
Update - factory reset got me going again. The next day the battery crashed to 0% charge in no time at all.
All OK now... fingers crossed.

Hi

Did initially have camera problem,
but after power of and reset,
all good,
after received the phone did 3 OTA upgrades in a row, 2 nougat then oreo. After oreo you have to restart the phone to make camera work again. Still I wish there was LOS or RR or AEX roms on 8.1
Turns out it was an issue with my SD card (128GB, which is not officially supported). With 32GB it works fine. Still disappointing (because it worked before the update)
Got it last night.
Phone been utterly terrible since.
Just done a factory reset hoping it would fix it.
It's taking time to re-setup because of constant repeating steps..
This update has made my phone so much poorer.
I thought it might be the SD card so I went from 64gb down to 32gb.
I even made the SD portable instead.
Done 3 factory resets...
It's randomly (but often!) unresponsive

Question Reboots

The Zenfone 9 is a great little device. However, since today I have seen several automatic reboots of the device. Anyone else seeing this problem?
I haven't seen a reboot; any new app you've installed of late?
Good hint - I have installed one yesterday. Will uninstall and report back.
Unfortunately is still get 1-2 reboots a day. Not critical but annoying! Anyone else?

Yes I am. No worries. Device is great. Just software.
Did a hard reset - problem persists. Not sure what the cause is - working with Asus support on it.
Hi, a friend of mine with a ZF9 has got reboot every night during charge (he uses slow charge, this night he'll try normal charge).
He had reboot even during daytime, he did a hard reset yesterday and for now everything is ok, but I'll update with new info in case of.
I've been having those reboots for weeks now. There is an official thread on the asus forums talking about it. There are more than a dozen people who have also reported it and from the looks of it, Asus hasn't found the source of the problem yet. Out of curiosity, in which country did you buy it? Are you rooted?
my version is a french version. I neither had any beta OS on it nor was it rooted. I wanted to provide Asus with Logs but they rather wanted the device for repair, now I'm waiting for its return.
I doubt this is a hardware issue though as the reboots did happen in cold state w/o any system activities ongoing. The only special thing on my setup was that I used two sim cards in parallel.
I did a hard reset and he problem remained. I also used slow charging.
I'm from Italy and the phone of my friend is not rooted and with bootlloader locked.
I heard my friend minutes ago, and from when he deactivated programmed charging the issue seems to have disappeared. Have you got programmed charging on?
Yes, I have the upload scheduled. But I'm beginning to suspect that the problem originates from a lot in Italy. I just asked you because I thought it was from there.
Love this phone but also having the same issue. Bought from Asus directly (US site) too. There's a whole thread of folks with the problem too on their forum:
ZenFone 9 randomly restarts
Hi all, I bought an Asus ZenFone 9 from the UK online store. I started to migrate the apps from my old phone to the zf9 and once I finished I started to use my new ZenFone 9 as my main phone. However, I noticed around 3 dso that when i wentato unplug a fter charging the phone it looked as if it...

Try to deactivate it and report please ;-)
My friend hasn't got reboot since then for now, two days and a half ago.
My reboots do not happen while charging, FWIW. And they're always while the phone is idle (sitting on desk). I look up and see it's spontaneously rebooting...
I was having reboots on custom kernel, just updated to 32.2050.2050.34 without going custom kernel (still rooted) and have had no reboots yet.
Mine reboots while watching YouTube app, either with high brightness, while charging, or both. It seems to be less likely to happen if i clear cache from YouTube settings.
It typically doesn't happen in other apps. Phone is stock. EU version.
After testing for a few weeks, there is a good chance that the reboots on my device are due to Magisk (not modules)
