LG v10 Bricked After LG Software Update (Error: Unfortunately, Smart Notice stopped) - LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
Just received my unlocked LG v10 which I purchased on Ebay from Korea. The phone worked perfectly out of the box and then I got on Wi-Fi and checked for updates, and there was an LG Android system update that supposedly addressed bug fixes and improved the stability of apps so naturally I updated. BIG MISTAKE! Now I get a constant pop-up window loop cycle that says 'Unfortunately, Smart Notice stopped'. I am not allowed to post a link to the video I shot of this happening, but it is on Twitter if you want to see, you can DM me. If I tap OK it just pops up again right away.
Can anyone help me with this? I have done a device reset, I have tried to force quit Smart Notice and cleared its cache but nothing works. Also there is no record of this happening online that I could find.
Really upset that after $1,300 AUD this is my first experience with Android and a flagship phone.
Many thanks if you can help.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have already tried that and it makes no difference. I have also cleared the Smart Notice cache (I can't disable it completely).

Have you tried factory reset or booting into recovery and wiping?

Thanks for your help. I have applied a factory reset, but am unsure how to boot into recovery mode and wiping. I have booted in 'Safe Mode' which disables 3rd party apps but the problem persists. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Also I have downloaded the LG Tools but it does not recognise that the phone is connected and there is no option in the settings menu (which is accessible in between quick taps of the warning message) to mount it as a USB drive.
I appreciate all the suggestions and help. Many thanks.

I haven't owned an lg phone in a long time but try holding down the volume down and power button at the same time. (from power off) and wipe all caches.

Thanks again. I have tried that and sadly it makes no difference. I think this is related to their latest update as it worked perfectly before that. Is it possible to roll back to a previous version?

updated mine tooay. no error message. all well so far

Download the LG mobile support tool and hook it up to that. You can re flash the KDZ file from there.

Thanks for the advice. Have downloaded and it says 'No update is available'. I then tried to use the recovery with the phone unplugged and entered the serial and model number, then I plug in the phone but it gives me a warning that the battery isn't sufficiently charged (was at 90%). Currently charing up to 100% to see if that makes a difference and will report back.
Appreciate all the help! What a great forum.

Unfortunately even with battery at 100% and connected to via USB the LG Support Tool still states that there is insufficient battery to perform recovery.

Try taking the battery out and putting it back in. I've run the tool successfully from within android and not download mode so you might want to try that as well.

Thank you so much for your continued help.
I tried both suggestions without success. When not in download mode the phone is not recognised and taking the battery out for 60secs and reinserting it didn't seem to make a difference.
I will post this back to LG Korea today and hope it was just a lemon.

Me too. And that is awesome that yours is about to arrive. I can say that before updating it, the experience was very smooth and I absolutely love the dual displays. I'm annoyed I didn't get a chance to test the camera which is the reason I bought it.
Are you importing one from Korea? Look forward to hearing your thoughts on the phone.
Cheers,
Eliot

I'm buying it for the camera as well. I bought it for 599 at T-Mobile in the US, with overnight shipping it should arrive tomorrow. I was going to get a Nexus 6P but the video camera is brutal on that phone. I've had LG phones since the Nexus 4, then Nexus 5, then G2, G3 and now the V10 will be 5th LG in a row. I really do like the LG experience.

Great. I'm glad to hear of a positive LG experience as mine has been anything but that so far, but I'm sure it will be smooth sailing once this silly issue is resolved.
I have a 6p and Xperia Z5 on order as well, and will keep the one I love most and sell the others. Thanks again for your help.

I got a F600S, bought in Korea on the release day. I got the system update on October 20, and I didn't experience any problems since then. I didn't see any great difference either, I have to say.
On the other hand... I don't like Smart Notice, and in general the LG Launcher, so I switched to Nova Launcher before that date.
Have you tried a different launcher? Hopefully that won't trigger Smart notice and you will be safe for now.

[Q] Update Bricked my Transformer Prime

I updated the firmware this morning and it looked like it had worked but then there was an explanation point in the notification bar saying there was an update available. I clicked the icon and everything froze. I tried to power off but it froze at the confirmation screen. I held the power button down with the volume down button to reset and it just took me to a page with gears and an orange explanation point. i did the data wipe with the same result. I did the reset button with a paperclip and same result. I downloaded the update onto a micro SD card and did the data wipe and was told by ASUS it would install the update from the SD but still nothing. I cant figure anything out, if anyone has suggestions or any similar problems let me know.

the OTA updates launched me into a perpetual reboot loop. i tried letting the battery drain all the way down but it didn't stop it once I powered back up the next day.
ASUS phone tech's want me to send it in for service, but before I send it I am hoping that someone has another solution I can try.

[Q]Bootloop Issue

Ok, so my fiancee's at&t note is stuck in a bootloop. I had it running on Blackstar, and since giving it to her hadn't bothered messing with the setup as it was stable. On her way home from work she apparently left the phone in her truck while making a stop in 92 degree weather(Farenheit). Now it will show both Samsung screens and then bootloop. I did some searching here on the forums and have tried everything I can find/think of. Here's a list of everything I've done:
1. Booted into twrp recovery, wiped data, cache, and sdcard for good measure.
2. Got to lockscreen, bootloop.
3. Used ODIN to push Samsung stock files onto phone, including recovery.
4. Got to AT&T easy setup screen, bootloop.
5. Used stock recovery to do hard reset.
6. Still bootlooping from second Samsung screen.
7. Removed back of phone, cleaned power button.
8. Still bootlooping.
I should note that the phone never booted itself after a battery pull, but I figured cleaning the power button couldn't hurt any.
Is there anything else I can try before going to at&t to have it fixed?
UPDATE: Thanks rangercaptain for that. I had totally forgotten Kies had the Firmware recovery. Unfortunately, it didn't work. And AT&T, well, we all know how they are about out of warranty phones. So I'm seemingly stuck, but I did have a thought. If the battery overheated, and malfunctioned, could it cause this? Would it be worth the 10 bucks to order a replacement OEM battery on Amazon and see if it fixes it?
Kies emergency firmware upgrade. Factory cable. Rear (powered) usb port on pc. Battery fully charged. Serial and model number under battery (all capital letters). Pray.
Don't quote, reply. If you quote, edit.
The battery try might be worth a shot. If not.... Surely mobiletechvideos could fix it. If they can be brought back from the dead, surely they can be brought out of bootloop.

Definitely try the battery. I had exactly this same problem, and even though the old battery seemed to be taking a charge, it was still screwing everything up (in the same ways you described). A new battery fixed everything*.
* - Ok, it actually it took a couple ROM reinstalls, to fix everything I apparently screwed up while trying to fix the devices before switching out the batteries.
Thanks for the info. I went ahead and ordered a new bateery, it'll be here Monday, so hopefully that works. I have the phone flashed stock with Kies at the moment, so I would hope I don't have to do any more reflashing if the battery is the issue.
Yeah i have the same issue. I was running blackstar. I had some issues occasionally with it crashing, nothing major. decided to install JB once ATT had official out. Wiped, installed, gets to att logo and reboot... please post your fix if it works. I have a second battery. I'll give it a shot but I have been keepeing it plugged in while doing these things and it still doesnt work.
"Wiped, installed, gets to att logo and reboot..."
If you're getting to the att logo, it may not be a battery problem. I'd suggest reinstalling the update after manually wiping everything using CWM.

Tried a couple flashes, with the debloated and bloated Roms based on Official JB. I can get to the getting started screen sometimes. typically I hit the next button and it goes into bootloop. once or twice i was able to select the next button and get to the next screen before it crashed. I'm thinking it's dead but.... idk.
This fixed my issue...
Replaced battery and yeah. I'm all better. so odd.. shrug. The other wasn't giving any indication that it was actually defective.
Awesome ... final step ... change the title to include solved :victory:

[Q] Galaxy s2 soft bricked with low storage

Alright then. Description of my problem first I guess. I was not at home and running out of battery on my S2, but play store asked me to update some application so I agreed. After this I got the message that my phones internaly storage was running low, and keep in mind that I had near to no battery life (like 5%) and was not near any sort of charge point. I tried to access the applications page, to delete some apps that I never used and when I did my phone randomly and crazily got stuck and switched off. I'm assuming it somehow drained the 5% battery life I had left.
I got home thinking I could just switch on my phone and delete some applications that I wasn't using...that was 2 days ago...I can't even get past the samsung splash screen. It goes on a horrible boot loop and I've just about tried everything apart from hard resetting and I don't want to do that as I haven't backed my phone up recently...
If anyone knows any other methods, could you please please help? I would really appreciate it if I could keep my files and just enter my phone to delete a couple applications...which I'm assuming is the problem.

yay for quick replies. I have tried cold booting, and soft resetting...I also went into recovery and cleared the cache partition to see if it would help and so far nothing... I have absolutely no idea what firmware I have and I have no idea how to check. I never tried to root my phone or install other roms.
OK so if you have no idea what firmware you was on don't reset Cuz if you was on 4.0.4 kiss good by to your phone. Was it ICS or jb? Do you know this? Pull battery out leave for a bit "5 mins" and try again. If that don't work and your not sure on firmware you need Odin to replace firmware yes data will be lost. Can you get to download mode?

[Q] Anyone else had to soft reset their device?

So this is probably the 3rd thread I've made for this device.
After returning my first Z2, I got this one a few (maybe 4 to 5) days ago and now I'm having issues with it. First time, the screen froze at my lock screen pattern entry; no response whatsoever but the LED light was blinking as I had a notification. I had to hold volume up + power button to soft reset. In the same day (today) I've just had to reset it again for the second time but this time, the power button would not wake the screen! No matter what I clicked, it would not work so I had to press volume up + power again till it vibrated 3 times and reset. I'll be going back to return the phone tomorrow and getting my third Z2! Anyone else having issues or anyone have any ideas as to why it's/what is happening?
Thanks in advance for any responses
EDIT: Are there any built in logs I can have a look at or anything of that sort to determine what went wrong?

Is your phone bone stock at the moment? (locked BL, no root, stock rom, stock kernel)
I had the issue initially - the phone wouldn't wake up a couple of times a day and I'd have to soft reset. But I was rooted with a custom kernel, etc. and learning to use the tools for Sony phones (coming from Samsung phones). But now it's perfectly stable. In my case, I suspect it was a combination of how I was flashing things, etc.
Otherwise, completely stock, i don't recall the phone freezing. Have you done a complete wipe and repair via SUS or PC Companion?

Hey, yeah the phone is pure stock. I've not messed around with the software nor downloaded anything I shouldn't have. I've not done a complete wipe and repair but I'm thinking about factory resetting. Obviously this is not a hardware issue but I don't want to have to keep resetting my phone twice a day because that is stupid. Hopefully it was a one off and I guess I'm not too bothered but I may go in store tomorrow and just see if they will replace it. Silly reason to do so, I know, but I guess I'm within my rights if the phone isn't working properly. What do you think?

Ah man. In a way I'm glad to see I'm not alone at least! For some reason mine is mostly random but I've kind of noticed it happens after I pull the charger out. Have you tried to go in and exchange it? If it's the camera causing it, it seems easily reproducible.
@shaf46
Hey Shaf, sorry to bother you mate. I just don't understand what is wrong with this phone! My estimated time on with stamina mode is down to 1 day a few hours again. It is a brand new phone I only got it yesterday. Is it the way I am charging it or is it just buggy software? I don't have any apps I don't need and even tap to wake is off. The battery works normally I guess although it is draining a bit fast (5% in 20 minutes while using it) but I don't understand what could be causing this to happen!

It's happened to me once where the phone wouldn't switch on after sleeping, turned on after about 2mins, but only when I received my magnetic charger and started charging with it. Not sure if the magnetic charger is the problem since I only had that problem once and never happened since.
Are you charging it with a magnetic charger?

Did you manage to sort it out? No I'm using the standard charger provided but after charging it last night, the estimation of battery time in stamina mode has come down significantly. The estimation assumes stamina mode is not on but it is turned on in my notification bar. This time yesterday the estimate was at ~5 days.

Update to 7.1.1 or not?

Hi guys,
I recently bought Moto Z and I'm satisfied with everything that it has to offer.
Software channel is reteu,android 7.0,NPLS25.86-30-12.
I just received an update to 7.1.1,should I take it?
What is your experience? The battery life is better, worse, the same...? Anything new? Everything is working? Is it worth it?
I have a bad experience with the new moto actions on shrink screen. The new way to shrink the display is just very odd
I'm firmly on the side of NOT!!
I updated last night and the ota has bricked my phone. the message I am getting is:
" Start up failed: Your device didn't start up successfully. use the software repair assistant on computer to repair your device. connect your device to your computer to get the software repair assistant"
Motorola/Lenovo Chat help are worse than useless, even after knowing what had happened they asked me to go into the main screen of the phone ....twice!
HELLLPPPP!!!

Check out this https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z/how-to/how-to-update-to-official-7-1-1-moto-z-t3640298
I took the install and it is working great; however, I would like to note, after I installed the update, I had a few issues with Twitter and some other apps. After the install, I did a factory reset and then re-loaded my apps. At least for my Moto Z, v7.1.1 is a very solid update.

If you live in Europe, do not update.
No LTE in Austria, sound equilizer not working, GPS losing connection issues....
Dont update
Wow,so many "don't's"...
I updated mine 2 weeks ago and it works perfectly fine. There's no abnormal behavior, battery life is good, camera great, very smooth.
I live in Europe and everything seems good. ROM is very smooth, GPS works fine, I don't have problems with LTE. Unfortunately LiveDisplay was't added. I recommend doing factory reset
I updated mine, then the next day the phone powered itself off after being fully charged. I turn it back on, it did it again twice while I was using it. I got lucky enough to do a cache wipe which seems to have solved it, but I don't see how these bugs are making it in. I'd be hesitant to install it.
I did the install yesterday after pondering the update. After one reboot everything is running status quo. It seems the majority of the issues everyone's having is not states side (U.S.A.).
