note 8, lg v30, iphone 8 which would you buy - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Its that time of (every second) year when my contracts up for renewal so i'm full on obsessing about the new rumours around these phones. Im a big media consumer so the bigger the screen the better and currently rocking an s6 edge plus which i love apart from the hardware buttons.
The note 8 has just a 0.1 in larger screen that the s8 plus and i'm hoping for 4k screen and smaller bezels if possible
The V30 looks great and there's talk of round edged Amoled screens (about time) but will these be plastic and not gorilla glass?
Liking the full display look of the iphone 8 but i cant help wondering if it will have big ass bezels as all the screenshots and mockups look like that
fingers crossed there'll be quad dac in one of the above but ive lost hope on stereo front facing speakers
what are your thoughts?

Are you getting one?

It's pretty clear that the Galaxy Alpha is not being positioned "above" the Galaxy S 5...it's just different. It's smaller, much thinner, but has a lower resolution display (720p vs 1080p) and a smaller battery (1860mAh vs 2800mAh).
So who is this phone for? Would you consider it over the Galaxy S 5, or even the Nexus 5/HTC One M8 for that matter?
Sound off! :victory:
Nope although I love that form factor it lacks some of essential features such as full HD and SD card support.
Also I think the price tag is way too high for the mentioned features.
The mentioned one's aren't alternatives I'll be waiting for the g3 with the snap Dragon 805 maybe they are going to release a smaller one too
The phone is for iPhone users coming over from Apple and direct compression for the z1 compact.
I personally think this is the best looking Samsung phone ever and I want it baaaaadddddd, I know the 720p screen and tiny battery are major drawbacks for most people but I can deal with it, I am by no means a power user. I just think its a great looking powerful phone that's perfect for me I just really hope it has some sort of development here

"B***h, please", you tell those "most people". I challenge your eyes to see single pixels with pixel density above 300 ppi. Also, the less pixels to push around = the GPU has it easier = it's easier on the battery... and battery is STILL bigger than any iPhone battery to date. And with the coming of L, battery life is expected to rise even more.

Considering this is using the Exynos 5430 using 20nm, it should have have battery life between the 801 and 805 if it was 1080p/1440p. if it's only 720p This device will last more than a day easily.
For that reason alone I'll be picking it up. and the fact I hate QHD on phones.
I would get one only if i dont have to throw a extra penny on xchange wid my 1month old nexus 5...
Comparing it to nexus 5
Pros
Slimmer
Metallic body
Better camera
Touchwiz ui (lol pro??)
Better gpu (yes its btr than a330)
Better battery (newer 20nm )
Cons
Touchwiz
Not full hd (i don't give a **** as i find display of 720p grand 2 to be same as that of my n5 wid naked eyes)
Expect late updates and poorer custom rom support.
I would make the sacrifice wid my n5 only if L doesnt makes it a overkill
Considering @svetius ' interest in alpha i guess he would get one tooo...

Ummm... me. I'm trim and of average height, not tall or big-boned, etc. I don't have huge hands. I wear 501s much of the time. The S5, G3 and One M8 are a bit too large for my pocket and for one-handed use. A phone is like a sidearm; while the zealots always want bigger and more powerful, if it's inconvenient to carry or use, and so you don't, it's no good even compared to an old flip phone.
But... the Alpha lacks a microSD slot, so it actually fails my requirements. Don't tell me you're selling me a Porsche - small, powerful, expensive - and then cut out the top gear. Charge me another $100 and put in the top gear, and call it a Porsche Xtreme or something silly like that.
As per a report it costs $689 dollars...
Plz throw it in the dustbin ...i am happy wid my sexy nexy...:silly:
I'm interested in getting it. The lack of a microSD card slot (and the price, too, I guess) is a bit of a bummer but who knows...

No SD card support..... I'd rather get the G3.
I will get one, if the battery is good enough.

Yes. I am in a similar situation -I am what you would call a Power User and need the Phone and nice
Camera for Business but am athletic, active and need the smaller form factor.
I want an Alpha Pro which is thicker with a larger Battery and Larger Camera Sensor like Note 4 ,SD Card for $ 100 more.
Alpha is a fashionable Device.
Alpha Pro would be for Note 4 types who don't want a huge phone.
The "Thinness Race" is surprising to me - I would MUCH prefer a thicker phone with SD Card and larger Battery and less breakable.
This size about 5.2" Tall with 4.7"
screen is perfect for me- and this Camera will be very good for Interior Designers , Real Estate Pros, Artists etc. not replacing a DSLR, but very useful.
Larger screens to me are impractical to carry and more likely to break, but I love the power of a Laptop in my pocket.
The Alpha is close.
The Sony Z3 Compact is close.
I prefer a removable Battery.
If Devs can create an APP that allows direct Storage to USB Stick ,
I could live without SD Card.
Two to Five Millimeters thicker and the Alpha Pro could be the Flagship Compact.
Remember you put a Rigid Case on a 5.6" Tall S5 and it's large and still fragile.
Put a rigid case on the Alpha and it's still pocket sized and less likely to break .
I don't know why it needs to be only 6.7 mm thick and 4 ounces-lol.
Give me the thicker Alpha Pro- a Device I am making up in the hopes it happens....
720p on 4.7" is decent. Even iPhone 6 doesn't have 1080p on their 4.7".
Hmmm I'm divided! I just had the S5 mini for a few days, and the screen on that one is bad. I meen the 720p resolution just doesn't cut it! Even thou the screen is small. It's just as bad as the S4 Mini. You can't read small fonts or read Web pages without zooming.
Soooo....... Does the Alpha has the same problem? I would guess. Even bigger screen with the same resolution. I hope I'm wrong and that Samsung just used a sub par display in the S5 mini. But I'm sceptical of course.
Also not sure if I want to live without the brilliance of a IR blaster in my phone. I use it everyday.
And then finally there is the potential issue about the battery size. Maybe it will be fine, if Sammy has optimized the Alphas HW correct.
So bottom line, I really want to get one, but I'm not to sure! LOOOOOOVE the esthetics!
Should be getting mine this coming Saturday, but stuck deciding what colour to go for...

I get what your saying I thought about it too, but something draws me to this device it just looks good and I think its a combination of the thinness and metal frame, anything thicker here I think would detract from its appeal. As long as I can get from 5am to 11pm with some juice left if I need it im happy
No but I would have if a) I was an at&t customer rather than t-mobile customer (for an on-contract deal) or b) it wasn't $192 more to import than the Xperia Z3 Compact. Who knows, if their resale values converge, I may end up having a green Alpha.
I like the style of the phone and hope Samsung uses this as the inspiration for all of their android devices over the next 6 months. I hope the phone sells well as the future of powerful sub 5" androids depends on this and the Z3C succeeding. I really look forward to seeing a January 2015 Tab Alpha 8.4 with the corners like this (and a snapdragon 810 or intel Broadwell). Similarly, I hope the Alpha sets the stage for a different direction for Samsung's phones (Android 5.0 should be more power efficient in a way that makes smaller batteries more viable).
The Alpha is coming to AT&T this Friday
The Alpha is coming to AT&T this Friday ,
And I'm getting one. I'm looking forward to the form factor, but I especially like, that it is not as huge as most phones out there and still has decent specs. I really wish I could have it all. Until then, I'm looking to have a new toy.
In my eyes, The Galaxy Alpha is Samsung’s most beautiful phone ever. Much more beautiful than the galaxy s5, but the size of its 1,860mAh battery worries me. In conclusion, I will choose the HTC M8 as my next flagship phone.
I sold my S5 for the Alpha a couple of days ago and don't regret it at all! It's a small and very powerful phone and probably one of Samsung's better in many years IMO ☺

Poco F2 expectations??

Hey everyone. Poco f1 has been a revolutionary smartphone. Judging by Flipkart's offer, the F2 is around the corner. Tell me ur expectations. What would you like to see differently in the 2nd gen poco??
Personally, I would like to see
> An Amoled display( A differentiating feature between flagships and killer. So an Amoled panel is a must to bring it to terms with other phones)
> No notch or dew drop notch( I think the ir face unlock can be skipped, I'll even take big bezels instead of the notch)
> A 5000mah battery( a bit greedy but it makes sense for a phone which is going to come with SD 855 and liquid cooling. Big battery. Longer gaming sessions.)
> Finally an aggressive price tag like the F1. 25k would be the sweet spot considering a newer chip and a switch to amoled.
Very excited for F2's launch. So what do u guys think??
NFC + amoled
I think nfc is a bit far fetched
a touchscreen that works properly out of the box?!
AMOLED screen (Widevine L1 support would be appreciated!), teardrop notch or full-fledged top bezel, and less rounded corners. If the F2 really needs to have rounded corners, I'd rather have them be tastefully done like the Redmi Note 5 Pro or the Oneplus 6. The current corners are atrocious.
I vote for OIS on camera....
Better Quality Checked
QHD
AMOLED screen
EDL mode
Removable Battery
IR
Verified Boot support
Ois and oled
Amoled screen
As long as it is not **** like Poco f1 it will be OK. NFC?
NFC costs pennies to implement. Why not?
AMOLED screen would be nice, ir blaster too.
Keep the micro SD slot.
4000 mah battery is nice, but why not go bigger?
It won't be waterproof, but that would be nice
The f2 will face stiff competition though, being up against the very aggressively priced Lenovo z5 pro gt, which itself reminds me of the mi8 to the Pocophone F1.
Amoled screen, nfc ,ois, sd855, tiny hole selfie camera, wide angle camera on backside instead of deep sense, and aluminum frame. And also keep headphone jack, microsd card support, led notification.
Ip68 water resistant and glass body for wireless charging is unnecessary for most user.
Poco F1 + smaller notch + NFC + same price + available within next three month = instant buy
OIS + Waterproof
now that leaks are pointing towards a sd 845, i seriously hope that a plus or a pro version exists with better features and base price of 25k
The one that leaked in geekbench has the sd 845 and not the 855. I’m sincerely hoping this is not the f2 but I wouldn’t mind if there is a plus version.
Firstly, the regular poco f2 should stick to lcd, 4000 mah battery, and same camera with telephoto or wide angle. This model should come in 6/64(20k) and 8/128(23k) only.
Secondly if there is a plus version and I do think there will be one. It should come with amoled, 5000 mah battery and slightly better cameras. This model should have 3 variants. 6/64(25k), 6/128(27k) and 8/256(31k).
I think this pricing makes total sense. This way they have a super cheap option like the f1 and also a much improved one while also staying substantially cheaper than one plus 7(around 40k)
Something that I want common for both is an unobtrusive notch(dew drop or punch hole), qc4(maybe), nfc(if xiaomi is serious about european markets coz it doesn’t matter in India, I would love to see a metal back or glass but plastic makes most sense( maybe kevlar coloured variants or just go the blackberry route with super grippy backs), less rounded corners(more elegance please) and keep the good stuff from the f1(aggressive pricing, headphone jack, good custom development, liquid cooling, skip ir face unlock and stick with physical fingerprint sensor(coz indisplay one is still finicky and slow)stereo speakers(a little better) and micro sd support).

Why?
I loved my Moto Maxx(turbo) ... Current Poco screen feels downgrade
IR Blaster is useful at home .... you can control everything at Home without costly wifi stuff.
The removable battery makes the devices more sustainable !!
Too costly bro

I know the screen on poco f1 is not good. But QHD is too costly and I don't see it being done simply because none of the competition is doing it. Also, isn't a 1080p amoled cheaper than a QHD IPS? The sensible upgrade would be a 1080p amoled. But if they wanna go extremely competitive they should go for a good LCD display. Even the ones on Redmi's had no issue.
Moto Maxx was awesome for its time, but I don't think now's the time for QHD under 25k.
IR blaster is a welcome addition. I loved it on my Mi Max and no one is doing removable batteries anymore. I would love to see them make a comeback but as there is such an emphasis on design nowadays that manufacturers opt for sleek devices.
OIS Camera
Bigger Bettery
NFC is useless in PH, but why not
Amoled
Waterproof

The S10+ Is Nearly Same Size as OP5

I was sitting here with my OnePlus 5 wondering if I should get the S10 or S10+. I want the more battery and portrait selfies but don't like really huge phones that must be used with 2 hands for nearly all tasks.
So I decided to bring up GSMarena to compare the size of my OnePlus 5 to the S10+ and to my surprise they are nearly identical. My main concern is of course the width and height.
I still can't believe this but the width of the 2 devices are completely IDENTICAL! With the height of the S10+ only being 0.13 inches taller. Barely a noticeable difference.
This has got me thinking maybe I should get the S10+ anyways. It will be worth the extra 700mah battery and extra front camera when it's the nearly the same size as my OnePlus 5 which is very much 1 handable for me with pretty normal hand size for a 6'0" tall guy.
If you were thinking of getting the S10, does seeing the S10+ is same width as a OnePlus 5 and barely any taller make you think to get the S10+ now?
Thanks for the info. I too have OP5 and was wondering the same thing!
Still undecided on whether to go for Samsung at all though or wait to see what OP comes up with later in the year. I had an S6E a few years back and whilst it looked nice, I hated Touchwiz. Not had any experience with One UI though.
Don't hesitate to take S10 +.
I already did it (I ordered S10 +). I am also the owner OP5.
As if not much, but always a large battery is desirable. Such Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 has the same battery as S10 + and holds even two days.

Device dimensions are important to me as well. I currently have the S9 Plus and I wish to avoid a larger device. At GSM Arena under Specifications the S10+ is supposed to be a bit shorter (length) than the S9 Plus. When the devices are shown side by side on Samsung's US website, the S10+ is noticeably taller than the S9 Plus. I'm not sure why this is the case.

Samsung Galaxy S10 5G Hands-On

Fellow XDA Members I was fortunate enough to have had some hands on time with the S10 5G, I thought I would share what I found with you so if you are thinking about buying one in the future or waiting for it over the standard S10 Plus, feel free to ask me any questions. I have also created a video about the S10 5G and the link is below but please read my experience with it first, VIDEO LINK HERE: https://youtu.be/dyrG-nAJFvc
Holding it in my hand I realise how big this phone is but it still feels smaller than I thought it would thanks to the hole punch camera design infact I would say it feels very similar in size to my Note 9. In a similar vein to the other S10 models Samsung has chosen to give us an aluminium frame sandwiched between two panes of curved glass with gorilla glass 6 covering the screen. I’m glad they didn’t go with a stainless steel frame otherwise it would be a very heavy device. The back has a stunning new colour that Samsung is calling Titan which has a rainbow shimmer effect but it will also be available in silver and gold.
The screen is stunning, a massive 6.7inches way bigger than the S10 plus but Samsung has also said that it is a wide Quad HD Plus screen with Dynamic Amoled technology and boy does it look good, Samsung are the kings of mobile screens. Hidden in the screen is the all new ultrasonic fingerprint sensor which works well and only needs the slightest touch to unlock the phone even when the screen is off.
Running this titan is the Snapdragon 855 the same as the other s10 models, but the difference is Samsung has included the X50 modem chip which gives it that hyper fast 5G connectivity. Of course none of this matters if the battery is not up to par and wisely Samsung has included a 4600 mah power pusher in the S10 5G. Samsung has also included the all new 25W fast wired charging capability which according to Samsung will charge the phone from 0 to 20% in just 10 minutes and to 100% in less than an hour. Just like the S10 plus the 5G has fast wireless charging 2.0 and wireless power share.
It will come with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of inbuilt storage but unfortunately it is not expandable due to lack of room within the phone.
This video wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t talk about the cameras, firstly it is obvious to see the punch hole in the screen is bigger than the one on the standard S10 plus. That is because it now houses the same 10mp f1.9 primary camera and 8mp f2.2 depth sensor but also included is an all new HQVGA 3D depth sensing camera which will be used for advanced AR features and is capable of measuring distances. This same sensor is included in the rear camera cluster alongside the 12mp variable aperture primary lens, the telephoto 12mp f2.4 camera and the ultra wide 16mp f2.2 sensor which gives a 123 degree viewing angle like human eyes.
Like the other s10 models the 5G comes with android 9.0 onboard and all the pie goodness such as night mode, the sleeker ui design, gesture controls and an overall smoother experience. So you are thinking great device I would love to own one, well I have a different opinion, now hear me out , my issue is that I don’t believe it will sell well because Samsung have said it will be released in summer. Now bearing in mind the networks won’t be fully 5 g ready by then coupled with the fact that the 5G Note 10 will be only a couple of months away, I can see consumers waiting for that instead of investing in the S10 5G.
Nice write up my friend, yeah your conclusion is the same as to why I went with the S10+ and I am happy with my choice. I will be getting the note so holding off for the S10+ 5G didn't make sense.
However I think it is indicative as to what the Note 10 will bring and boy is it going to be good....:good:
Good to hear your review! I'm going to enjoy my S10+ for a while and wait for 5G to get established...
i just not sure how I am going to afford the 5G plan in U.S.
So I am fine with Note 9 and s10
Thanks for taking the time to do the write up. I'll be looking to trade up to this once available for sure!!

Question Why did you choose the 6 over the Pro?

Please, convince me on not buying the Pro...
I have the S21 Ultra so didn't need the zoom ,120hz and so the extra 300 for the Pro were not worth the hassle.
Also the 6 has everything else the same and in the UK you got the bose 700 headphones on preorder regardless which you got.
So it was a no brainer for me.
If you are not a camera person the Pixel 6 is the way to go.
Also compared to the Pro the S21 Ultra is a better buy with 10x zoom and the Spen feature and you probably get it cheaper now.
Didn't think it was worth $300 more.
The Pixel 6 Pro has curved screen edges while the Pixel 6 is a flat screen which is what I prefer.
Curved screen. Have an actual camera so the $300 for the telephoto did not seem economic.
Curved screen, size, and price.
Yeah the telephoto would be cool in certain situations and there's been a few times already I wish I had it, but not enough to justify an extra $300 and having to put up with the screen edges and extra bulk.
Physically the Pixel 6 is a nearly identical in size to my Pixel 2 XL, just a smidgen heavier.
Size. Pro is too big.
Size, price and the flat screen.
In the UK the price difference is £300, which is over $400. Crazy amount to justify the additional zoom and screen differences.
I also prefer the black frame look to the metallic sides of the Pro.
improved battery live over the Pro. Often I ask keep asking myself the same question and so far come back to the same conclusion. It would be really cool to have a flagship phone with the beautiful curved and larger screen and the additional camera feature. But then it's $300 more for that and the additional RAM. I've had an S21 Ultra before and sometimes miss the large smooth screen.
If there had been a difference in the processor I would have definitely picked the Pro.
cheers
I bought both to compare to each other and send back one within the return window.
I like the size of the 6 better, and the color of the sorta sea foam. The 6 screen wasn't as responsive out of the box but now for some reason feels more fluid.
The audio is important to me as I use phones with Viper4android with high end gear and both phones sound the same in that dept, almost better than my S21 Ultra, which until now was the best sounding phone to me.
Weird that Pixel doesn't have dolby like Samsung and One Plus phones.
Mostly price, but also size and flat screen.
Price was too much for me, don't care about telescopic lens, phone is too big for me, and lastly the curved edges make it difficult to find a good reliable glass screen protector.
As of now, not even Whitestone Dome has come up with a glass screen protector and they make great glass screen protectors for screens with curved edges.
The Pixel 6 is about the same size as previous Pixel XL devices which makes it the perfect size for me. The regular sized Pixel was fine for me back then too but the small battery along with not being able to see very well when having two windows open is a deal breaker for me.
Mainly price and being a flat screen device.
Money and flat screen.
The bigger question for me is why I got a Pixel 6 and not a lower end phone. I never even considered the pro because:
A) Price
B) I preferred a even smaller, not larger phone.
C) Camera was of minimal concern for me because I rarely use a cell phone for 'real' pictures - I have a mirrorless APS-C camera for that. Cell phone pics are more for in store "which item should I get?" type pics.
D) Coming from a 60Hz screen, 90Hz was already an upgrade.
E) I am not a gamer, and don't push my phone hard, so extra RAM was not necessary.
D) According to reviews, real world battery life on the regular model is suppose to be better. (I assume the bigger higher res screen on the pro is the main reason)
I came from a Pixel 4 XL which became a sweet spot size wise for me. The Pixel 6 is very comparable in size to the Pixel 4 XL so that and the price is what made me buy the 6 over the 6 Pro.
If I hadn't needed the 512 GB version of the Pixel 6, which is only in Pro, I would have strongly considered the regular 6. I don't regret having the Pro except for the curved screens, but I knew it would.
I had never seen a Pro until yesterday, but it only took me 10 seconds for me to know I made the right choice. I don't like the curved screen and although it is slightly taller, it didn't appear to be any wider than the regular 6.
