It's time to say goodbye - farewell OP rant - OnePlus 2 General

As a former huge OnePlus fan, it's time to say goodbye. I never upgraded after the 2, the phones got more expensive and the upgraded features didn't justify the additional cost. I've been running my OnePlus 2 on DU 11.5 for months now, the ROM development just never got to where we all hoped it to be. I blame OnePlus for this not giving the developers the tools needed and really hindering their success opportunities.
A huge thanks to all the devs who have and still put work into keeping this phone development alive. Until we meet again.
As for where I'm going. I'm a 2 phone guy, one for work and one for personal. I'll be switching my personal over to the Samsung A5(2017) which is an incredible phone. And my corporate phone will be an iPhone 7...

Farewell. I'm personally not buying OnePlus again.

Oneplus is still using USB 2.0 in the OP5, over 2 years after the type C spec was published. There is still issues with jpeg compression in their phone app and it is not adjustable. Not releasing decent camera blobs for devs to use in their roms, etc. Oh yeah, premium pricing too. No thanks, I am done with them too.
My carrier has the LG G6 on sale right now, I think I'm gonna try that. I love the idea of a wide angle lens, and the Google camera app with HDR+ is confirmed working on it.

Farewell!!

Yeah, I have enjoyed my one plus 2 also but the lack of decent support from the company has turned me off from them. Around the beginning or middle of next month I will be switching to something else. Farewell OP2

OP2 is still a decent phone even in 2017. It's all about finding the right rom for your needs. But yeah.. OP is a terrible company and have forgotten what made them great in the past.

This sums up my thoughts too. I'm happy with my OP2 for now but when it comes time to change I won't buy another OP.

What if I told you that OnePlus provided the tools, but no one here ever made efficient use of them since Grarak left?
This device still has life and its still a solid phone. I just got it and my intention is to improve it.

I would say yey new ROM !
There seems to be some good devs working on the phone still so would be surprised if they where all missing something.

I'l just dreaming about Google doing affordable Nexus devices again ... They would be so successful I'm sure. I first bought the 2 because the 6P was too expensive for me, but I still don't know about any other company which is "developer friendly" as OnePlus and Google. So yeah I'm stuck buying ****ty devices from a brand who doesn't car about their customers

Never settle. Yeah right.
Some good points here, yes, OP2 is still a good phone even in 2017. OnePlus turned it's back on it in pursuit for more ka-chiiiing, and 3, 3T or 5 haven't done much to make them sooo much better. But prices, oh my. Just got OnePlus spam in my mail, new OP5 model with more memory already! What? How much?
6GB RAM + 64GB Storage
499,00 €
8GB RAM + 128GB Storage
559,00 €
So I went to see my order from february 2016. I got 64GB one at the time when 32GB was available. Mine was 345€ minus 40€ for coupon. So 305€. Guess what OnePlus, I won't be settling.

Come on, stop. OnePlus 2 was not a good phone, is not a good phone and would never be a good phone.
How can you say it's a good phone when you see User Experience is so bad with the Snapdragon 810, when there is so much thermal throttling every time you are doing something on the phone ? (don't talk about underclock / overclock / custom kernel / etc, those are elements which are flashed after by the user, and are not relevant for every users).
When you can see that you can buy a OnePlus 3T for 350E on Ebay (what I did, phone is in perfect condition), you should not even consider buying the OnePlus 2.

Never had those problems, but I am not using it for games. Phone works just fine - not saying it is (or ever was) a great phone, just a reasonably good one. Mostly let down by software and company which became greedy, and yes, while being the latest thing at the time Snapdragon 810 wasn't that good. Still it works for all basic needs, even after 2 years specs are almost impressive and user experience can be ok. *Not* a power-user experience.
Not comparing it to flagships because it never really was in that category, and you also should put it in it's price bracket, you bought used 3T for 350€ while OP2 when new was 300€. So there's that. After having it for a year and a half I am surely not considering buying another one or recommending someone to get OP2 or any OP actually. For that user experience and satisfaction should be on higher level.

Actually i will buy oneplus again. Why, because it's cheaper then the rivals much cheaper. And i really like my oneplus 2, spent 100 euros for it, really cheap and good phone.

Me too on that one...
Bought a Nexus 4 towards the end of them selling out for like £150 or something, was a brilliant phone even though I replaced god knows how many screens and back's on it but was a great great phone

Efforts will be put in getting Oreo up for the OP2, specifically halogenOS 8.0
Any help is appreciated, if you want to submit patches, do so via review.halogenos.org, otherwise, if you have a device tree, let us know.

Hi CertifiedBlyndGuy, if I am not wrong then you're the AOSPA maintainer for OnePlus X. Are you building AOSPA for OnePlus 2 as well ?

I'm out - quitting on OnePlus #NeverSettle

I was an early adopter of the OnePlus One and strongly supported the company.
I was patient and waited to get my OnePlus Two invite, but I was not pleased that OnePlus was repeating the invite system. Still, I stuck with it.
This past Sunday, OnePlus sent me an invite (a holiday weekend)! But they sent it to my old email address (the address that I was using at the time I got the OnePlus One). I had changed my contact email on the OnePlus site a few weeks ago.
I didn't discover this invite until AFTER the 24 hour period had passed, so my invite was invalid.
I was bummed but nicely contacted customer service and the rep was very nice and helpful, and filled out out a service ticket. I was assured I'd hear back within 24-48 hours, but I heard nothing.
After the two days passed, I contacted customer service again, and another rep helped me by saying they will respond to my issue within 24 hours. Again, I heard nothing.
I've had it. I just ordered my Moto X Pure Edition. I went to Amazon, selected my item, and completed the purchase like a regular person.
It's so refreshing to just order a phone and expect to get it in a few days. It's not funny anymore.
#NeverSettle. I took OnePlus's advice and didn't settle.
Bummed about it, but psyched to get my Moto X.
Sucks. Got my OPT and loving it!

Just buy one on swappa.com. There are a **** ton so you will only pay barely over Retail.
Yeah I got an invite on holiday weekend I just bought right away. I got the phone on Thursday is a nice upgrade but you shouldn't feel to bad is not a crazy upgrade it feels like a oneplus oneS lol.
I have currently my Oneplus Two send in for replacement, but since the Two isn't as fascinating as I thought and the Moto X Style is in my opinion better at all than the two, I will sell the Two when it arrives at home.

Better screen, SD-Card slot, better support, less heat and in my case a better quality. Enough arguments?
EDIT: Two more: Better firmware and even after it launched only some days before better community support. The Two only has a weird chinese TWRP where nobody knows who actually made it.

Better screen? No, it has a higher resolution display and people are reporting horrible battery life like 2h SOT bad because of that screen so think again. SD-Card is not very necessary when you have 64gb of storage. Better support? Moto was one of the slowest OEMs to update their phones with last year's Moto X that was one of the biggest complaints. Less heat? OPT doesn't get hot? Ive had it for 2 weeks and not once it did it get even remotely hot, all the reviewers said the exact same thing. Better firmware? Refer to what I said above about updates and their software is less feature packed than Oxygen, even though Oxygen is still rough around the edges. And better community support? you got to be ****ting me on this. OnePlus phones always had the largest community/developer support compared to any phones. They are up there with Nexus devices.

The SOT thing is bull****. 4hrs are minimum. It is also reported in the Style forums here. With support I mean the customer support. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Mine got during playing really hot at the metal edges.
For the software I can only refer to the semi working fingerprint scanner and homebutton. The only one thing I like about Oxygen is the dark theme, that's it.
The community/dev support was big when the Oneplus One came out. But now, it's ver slow. Nobody can get a good ROM with all functions working, because Oneplus doesn't release the drivers for the fingerprint scanner. Yes, they don't have to, but what does the releaxed attitude towards unlocking the bootloader help when you only have barely working ROM's?
I don't want to start a rough discussion. Everybody can decide for themeselves which phone they like more. Oneplus changed my attitude towards them when they took nearly three weeks to send me a correct RMA ticket! I will test the Style. I don't really need the fingerprint scanner, but regarding Android Pay, NFC would be more interesting than the fingerprint scanner.

The Style had me interested until I saw the battery life results. While some people are able to get 4 hours SOT, I've seen a ton of reports of people struggling to get much better than 3 hours, which is what I was expecting. Development for the OP2 will pick up once more developers are able to get their hands on one. Mine got warm when I restored my apps and once in awhile when I play games but it's not unbearable. I'll take a fingerprint reader over NFC too. I'd be more interested in LGs next Nexus device over the Style, but that's just me!
But seriously, for those people with OPT that have somewhat unresponsive fingerprint scanner/home button. I didn't have that issue, and 1 of my friend didn't have that issue. But to me 64bit processor are still better(minus the downclocking), if you are still stay at SD80x it's still okay. Since they already predicted next year SD820 will be released. Still it is up to you

It worths the money, and it's not bad even with stock EMUI ( I am runing Android 6.0.1 on EMUI 4.0 )
This phone is for its price best there is nowadays. have it for 2 weeks and thinking of rooting it as well.
Imo, all the other phones in this price range suffer from two major flaws: 1) lack of manufacturer support post-release 2) lack of hobby developer support. Normally 2) is a direct result of 1). To Huawei's credit they allow full access to the device (bootloader unlock), they publish source code, and they engaged the developer community early on. Even further, they released a major OS update to the phone (Android 5 -> 6.0). As a result we now have a fairly active dev community including a newly minted official CM13 rom. Not many other $200 phones can say that.
If you say its a €500 euro phone with CM i would believe it.. it makes the phone so much faster you wont see a big diffrence between other phones! And the phone has a Premium look aswell. You wont notice its a mid end phone with a low end CPU.
I got this phone ($90USD) to replace my Xperia Z1 Compact and highly recommend it, even for retail $200. Best budget phone I've ever seen. My one gripe is the lack of NFC (I have tags stuck all over the place). However, it's a very well built, solid device with a surprisingly good screen and pretty good battery life. Everyone who's seen it has thought it looked like a $600 phone.
Awesome, awesome buy. Can't recommend it highly enough (assuming you put CM13 on it otherwise ignore every positive thing I've said because the stock interface is not great).
I thought I got a deal @$120! (Prime day).
But I agree, even @ $200 it's still a great value.
This it my current back up phone. I wouldn't pay more than $150 for it at this point, especially you can get the Amazon's Moto G4 for $150 and manually remove the ads.
I consider this the poor man's Nexus 6P. I think the phone is only worth it if you install Cyanogen on it, then it work just like the Nexus. I'm running the phone at 1366x768 resolution to improve the performance.

The Honor 5X, imho, is only worth getting if you flash CM13 on it. Otherwise, I wouldn't exactly consider it, especially with the new phones coming out now. You know, if you care about performance and not extra features (specifically the FPS), the LG G3 should be a better phone overall for not much more.
Also, do you not find the OnePlus 2 a better phone for $300? It's basically a souped up version of the Honor 5X, minus the expandable storage. There's also the LG G4 and Moto X Pure. All of the phones I've mentioned are objectively better than the Honor 5X for sub $300.

The honor 5x is OK for a backup device only because it just doesn't have the package to make it scream.

G2 in 2017

All discussions about buying new phone or advise not to upgrade goes in this thread.
Personally, I wouldn't mind keeping the G2 but I will need to replace the battery on mine if I shall keep using it. Normal since I've had the phone for 2 years now.
I got the phone for almost 3 years now, never changed the battery - always charging with LG's charger and having nice battery life [CM and Stock, whatever you prefer]
I don't see any good reason to move on, nothing has dramatically changed yet. Fingerprint? Wireless charging?
So I think we can stick to our good old G2 for a bit more...
My G2 has 3 years already and is perfect. I picked it up already used and still have nice battery life, around 5 to 7 hours of SOT. I'm on my second G2, this one with 32GB of internal memory and I don't see any good reason to spend a lot of money that I don't have on a new device that doesn't add that much. I plan to keep my G2 for like one year or more. Don't really feel changing it anytime soon.
Would be nice to have a really functionality MM rom. I tested most roms, but the camera and sound are bad. The smoothness of the custom Roms are very good. So what to do? I think the Rom development stocks. I have to stay on stock Rom to have all working fine. But in future I see apps not working or very laggy working with the "old" LP Rom. So my experience in the past with my tab.

3 years here too. Not gonna make it much longer, the digitizer is going bad on the bottom left. Looking at the Pixel, but want to wait to make sure there are no manufacturing issues (like exploding) before I take the plunge. I have a Nexus 9, I'm not too confident in HTC's build quality after the problems I've had with it.

Same thought.
I have g2 from 1 year. I have the 16 gb variant. I must tell that maybe i need less lags, a microsd slot and a lot of more battery... But i must keep it for another year, i can't change it.
I'm thinking in get another phone just because 16gb isn't enough anymore.
If I could find some hack to expand this 16gb internal storage, I would do it.

Thats so true, realy no need for any new phone now, everything still works fluently.
Too bad Dorimanx and others already quit g2 developement and not much new developers
Second G2 here, the 32GB variety, I swapped out my first G2(16Gb) to the G3 hoping for all that upgrade coolness - nope, then the OnePlus1 - cheaper than the G3 etc, but the size started to bother me. So, I went back to the G2, I still have the 16GB first one which was battered close to death by my resident teenager so I picked up the second one very cheaply and would not swap it for anything. To my eyes and hands nothing made after it looks or handles much better, the G2 still has one of the best screen-to-size ratios - my favourite thing about it! I'm Running OrionOS MM, getting up to 5 hours screen time, LGCamera from the Playstore does a fair job of replacing the stock one, it even does 1080p @ 60fps. Of late the headphone socket has started acting up a bit .. off to Ebay for another 32Gb model, don't mind if I do!

No Oneplus 3 yet, I have this phone:
- G2 D802(32gb) bought new since 2013 I think
- G Pro2 32gb F350L, this device just similar to G2 but 5.9 inch screen, 3gb ram+sd card and much better sound from my experience.
- Htc one M8 32gb, this phone screen/speaker is good and performance is all right and reliable.
I have ordered Lg G4 (F500) it's coming in few days, so I will try it.
They are not new devices but with root and custom rom they still work quite good for me.
I think now you can get really good phone for $250-$400 with Xiaomi Mi5/5s, LeEco Pro2/3, Zuk Z2/Pro, Oneplus 3, Lg G5 so many choices. For speed I seen reviews Oneplus 3 is top dog, with new Huawei Honor8 5.2inch is good too if you like small phone.
For good multimedia/audio experience maybe Lenovo Vibe X3 cost less than ZTE Axzon 7 in my opinion.

I just love my g2. Is there anything in the market similar ? After three years the main problems for me are scratched rear camera. Bluetooth needing reboots to work. And finally the constant need after rebooting to enter a code to change to 4g. Won't be changing it any time soon.

Sounds like custom ROM problems. Try sticking to LG based ROMs - if you already are, then try an LG kitkat ROM. 4.4 has always worked best for me.

Why is this phone so abandoned? :'(

Hi guys,
I feel it's really sad to see there are so few options to mod our Xperia phone.
I think Sony made a great phone with pretty good OS and feature set, as well as design, but we have almost zero modding options.
There's no official TWRP, which seems odd since there's an official one for the much similar Xperia X Performance...
Also, no Lineage, no custom ROMs other than a few ones that aren't really famous and well known like Lineage or others.
Do you guys know why is this phone so underrated? Is it so difficult to port ROMs to or are there just a few users?
Cheers
PS Still hope for an official Lineage/TWRP port... fingers crossed for now
Well there are two stock based roms and OmniRom for the xx, which is not too bad. There are also at least two twrp versions around that are not official, but do what they need to do. If you are used to Lineage you'll like Omni!
That said, Sony had hoped to sell double the number of devices in the x-series as they actually did. Unfortunately demand is not so high for midrange phones that perform as good as last year's premium phones.

I actually think that the demand for mid-rangers are actually fairly high if it was at the right price bracket.
The Xperia X with its $899 or was it $799NZD was actually on par with discounted flagships like the regular 32GB S7 making it a bad buy.
Likewise, I bought this phone when it was on special at $549 and while it's not exactly cheap, that is the price it should honestly be sold at.
It was a touch below the price of the Galaxy A5 2016 making this phone the more appealing premium mid-ranger.

I agree that the xx was too expensive when it was introduced. I also bought it after the price had dropped .
Seriously guys? I actually got mine for a pretty good price (320 euros). That's not a lot for the phone's specs tbh.
Anyway I agree that there's some TWRP around, but how deep can a user trust a dropbox-hosted custom recovery made by who knows...
Not to disrespect by any means the dev behind it, but being this my main phone I'd prefer a more official recovery.
Also gotta try this OmniRom, seems a good project, but still no way of trying it without the proper twrp.

I know right? I do not understand how they paid so much for this thing. I payed 320 months ago. Now it goes for as low as 280! For that price, you cannot get a better deal unless you want some chinese stuff. Personally I spent months researching phones at that price and this was the best.

Yeah it's a damn good deal at 300, and keep in mind i bought it some months ago when it was even better.
That being said the development behind it is terrible

to answer you question, you have to consider SONY's health as business entity! the company had 2.3+ Billion losses in 2015 even with z5 and z5p on their side! (there are many reasons for that)
1. they don't usually link their devices with careers (like samsung does)
2. only gsm
3 poor marketing (the biggest)
4 drmkeys concept (for developers)
now when Xperia X was launched when sony dumped whole Z project and never released Z6 , (may be XZP is another name of z6p) . also X was never released in many countries! in my country there is no Xperia dealer and i order them from dubai.
when extremely talented devices gets extinct, you don't see much activity in developer world also! , If you wana see the most successful and popular ever xperia! , in my opinion Xperia Z (C6602/03 ) is the king. there are so many roms, tweaks, recoveries, for that device! Sony was down very well that time!
now, coming back to X, i have X, its nice phone, today got 7.1.1 from sony. so they haven't completely abandon it; its just its not a very popular device in developer world
I got my XX almost a year ago. Used it like 4 months as my only phone, then as a jukebox when I got a Honor 8 and then an OnePlus 3T, those are good phones but there's something I like of my Xperia X, that's why I installed an Android 7.1.2 concept ROM and I'm using it again. Can't believe the screen is sharper and clearer in the sunset than the OP3T! Also, audio and video recorder is superior than Honor 8 and OP3T.
Even if I hate the fingerprint scanner location, I like my Xperia and I'm currently using it as my daily phone again, while I'm experimenting with the OP3T.
Too bad developers don't have too much interest on this nice piece of phone.

Love this phone but getting a bit old now, What to replace with?

Ive had the nexus 6p for a while now and had to replace the battery numerous times (mostly due to my using wireless charging that seems to eat batteries). i recently updated it with lineage 15.1 which seems to be working fine but having replaced the battery yet again im thinking it might be about time to look for a replacement phone. i did fancy a honor but found that the bootloader unlocking is now a problem so thats out the equation. question is what should i consider for my next phone? it needs a decent size screen, rootable / flashable, and most of all it needs to be affordable. any suggestions?
OnePlus 6T which should be announced in a couple of weeks?
It's been 3 months since I changed my nexus 6P for a Oneplus 6, and I'm really happy, I had a little hesitation because of the notch, but as she is small she does not bother.
The optimization of OxygenOs (Android Pie ) is really great, 0 lags in apps and games.
You can root it with magisk
For me it's definitely going to be the oneplus 6t end of November or December I am buying it for sure.
I'm going to replace mine with a Pixel 3 XL. I don't care if it's ugly as hell, I'd rather stick with a Google device. I'd like to avoid making the mistake of switching to another manufacturer again, even if they have a good reputation like OnePlus. It's never as good as having a Nexus/Pixel device straight from Google.

im leaning the same way too, i did have a go with a honor that looked fine until i found there is no more bootloader unlocks so that went back. i do quite like the look of oneplus but im not that rich sadly so im thinking a second hand pixel might be the way forward. ive just replaced the battery in the 6p again so that should be ok for now but in the end i do need to start looking at an update / upgrade. thanks for the replies :good:

I'm doing a similar thing. I bought the Nexus 6p just before the OG Pixel came out. In fact I received it in the mail on launch day.
If I don't see any deals soon from Google, I'm just going to pick up a Pixel 2 XL in New/mint condition on Swappa. They're already dropping pretty low in price.

One plus doesn't work with Verizon.
I am waiting for a 7nm chip from Qualcomm and Supervooc to be implemented in Oneplus. Maybe Oneplus 7t . Replaced my battery 3 months back and it works fine for now. I cannot live without HDR+ though. Google has really spoiled us.
I also keep wondering what to replace my 6p with.... But I just went ahead and put a second new battery in today... There's life in this 3 year old yet!
If someone came out with a flat screened phone as to have tempered glass screen protectors properly functional again, I might go for that...

I sold my Nexus 6P and buy a Xiaomi Mi A2, I'm so happy with this new phone and now I got Android 9 Pie (Beta)
This is an affordable phone, nice specs and takes fine photos and I love the stabilization of the videos.

For me too, but Pixel are very expensive and the current desing is not good (in my opinion), because the normal is small and the XL is very ugly with this notch.
The Xiaomi Mi A2 is an Android One mobile, in this month I got the november patch the same day that Pixel and Nexus. For security patch is faster.
At this moment I get Android 9 Pie (beta) and in the end of this month the stable version will be released. I know, Pie is on Pixel some months ago, but for affordable phone only wait 3 months to get Pie and is not too bad, other expensive phones take same or much more time to get it.

I was looking at the OnePlus 6t as well, as on of our IT techs just got it, however it doesn't work on the Sprint network either
I am looking at the Poco F1. The development on it is thriving. More active than N6P.
I just ordered my OnePlus 6T. Should arrive on Monday
It was a pleasure to flash ROMs alongside you gentlemen. I'll see some of you on the 6T forums ?
Ended up with OP 6T too. At a certain point I got fed up with constantly comparing specs and went with good overall performance and reasonably standard Android. Not happy at all with losing 3.5mm jack but there's the adapter and so be it.
I frankly fail to see why nobody offers a flagship phone with Android One.
Currently in the same boat. Im about to jump ship from Verizon to Total Wireless (I know, same network but at least its much cheaper)
The OnePlus 6T can apparently work on Verizon as long as you contact Verizon and make sure they set it as a "CDMA Less device".
Not sure how i could make that happen if Im on Total Wireless. Backup plan is a 2XL or 3XL. 2XL only because the main dev on ABC ROM just got a 2XL so its guaranteed to be ported. 3XL development not sure how long that will take.
