While looking to find a HDMI cable solution for my Moto Z, I came across a solution for the Galaxy S7.

- enable USB debugging
- go to display in settings and set it to the highest resolution
- connect your phone to this cable using your original USB power cable
- Job done.... now you have a solution for connecting your Samsung Galaxy S7 to any TV via HDMI (works for the Moto Z as well using a usb C power cable)

Any displaylink hardware could send the image to the HDMI o VGA port. I have the Targus Multi Display Adapter and I'm able to connect my S7 to a VGA port or HDMI Port without any problem. You can connect a USB keyboard and mouse too! You only need to install the diplaylink app for android

MHL (the primary hdmi to usb micro protocol) does NOT work with S7 or S7 Edge as of at least Nougat. They lost MHL on the 7 line actually, S6 DID support it. Unless MHL support was added in Oreo, I am highly suspect of the claim that this cable "works". I have a rif6 cube projector and this is one of my few phones/tablets that I still can't use on the included MHL microusb-hdmi cable (which works with numerous other Android devices). DisplayLink may work but is an entirely different premise. DisplayLink uses proprietary protocol to send encoded video over usb or wifi. With the display link app installed, yes you may be able to wired/wirelessly output your display but this is similar to screen casting and encodes the video, not a raw hdmi out video cable. DisplayLink also assumes you actually have a DisplayLink capable display or device to cast to (which I sure don't haha)
Can anyone confirm this is still working on latest oreo firmware?

I cant be sure, but I'm pretty sure you need the microusb to OTG connector that came with the s7....it allows you to plug in standard USB devices such as flash drives, game controllers, etc. You then purchase a VGA displayLINK (not displayport) external USB graphics card....plug vga from USB graphics card to tv/monitor.
USB device handles graphics control..
App acts as linux/android driver so no need for MHL anything....android is an OS...
Sounds workable.....

I thought displayLINK was way to wirless mirror my screen. That's not what I'm looking for. I can already do that with Chromecast, ClickShare, etc. I want to have a cabled connection to have in places where I don't have an internet connection at all. This is for business presentations, so I'm not concerned about lag for gaming, nor am I concerned with perfect resolution or even audio. I just want to display screen of my Samsung S7 on a larger display with a cabled connection that doesn't require internet.

I ve got a HDMI adaptor and cable for my S2 and it is working fine on the TV with HDMI, just wondering if I can connect S2 to the telly without HDMI socket?
There is no cable for that. Or use an HDMI cable with a DVI converter on top of it?
Google for HDMI to composite. There's loads of cheap leads to do this.

I am also trying to find how to cheaply connect S2 to a crt tv with either scart or composite RCA - does't look possible without high cost below taken from a web site but not allowed to post link as I'm a new user!:

hdmi uses digital signal, so you can use a DVI adaptor but that's it.. (or digital component but that's ultra rare)
to use analogue (scart, composite, component, s-video) you'll need a digital-to-analogue converter box and they cost around £30 from ebay.. you're better off putting that money towards a new LCD with hdmi
Im buying new monitor, there are some models with MHL support, so what do i get with MHL? my question is how i will benefit from that? what is advantage of monitor with native MHL support?
Both monitors in my final choice have FullHD 1920*1080 resolution and HDMI ports.

There is no such thing as "MHL support" for a monitor. That is purely marketing stuff. Every monitor that has HDMI will work with MHL devices as long as the MHL device has the proper cable.
The devices that must be MHL-enabled are the source devices, the one generating the images, not the display.
If you have the adequate MHL adapter for your S III, any monitor or TV with HDMI inputs will work.
I have my S III work with several models of TVs, and none of them state they are "MHL-enabled": they just have HDMI ports.

I think the MHL-enabled monitor mean you don't need a MHL cable. However do note that SIII went out of the MHL specification with S3. Make sure that S3 is supported before your purchase one.Otherwise you will still need a S3/Note2 specific MHL cable.
i have already ordered MHL cable for my GS3, indeed cheep one from ebay but it should work fine.
i think that MHL support is option to charge your phone directly over HDMI=> mUSB cable, so there is no need for extra power. but think is new 11pin and changed specification of Galaxy S3, so i still need extra power connection

Anyone who knows the capabilities of the USB-C port?? Is it possible to use USBpens, external harddrives, card-reader etc? And how about USB-C to HDMI, a seller in a store told me he did it with his m5... But I have my doubts to whether that was "salesmens talk"...
Don't have an M5 yet (tomorrow), but the Mate SE (micro usb) port can be used for many things people are not aware of. For many things all you need is an OTG cable (usb-c or micro to usb). I've plugged in usb thumb drives and even a wireless keyboard and mouse using a logitech unifying receiver (first set usb connection to midi).
A quick search turned this usb-c to hdmi adapter on amazon, looks like there are many different ones available. Have never tried this with any of my android devices, but if they make these adapters, well it certainly gives one hope that it *might* work, it certainly must in some circumstances.

I have a HDMI adapter I use for the Nintendo Switch (which also should work with Samsung devices) and that one doesn't work with my M5 8.4.
I also have a USB-C OTG adapter and a USB memory stick works, but I haven't yried anything else.
It doesn't appear that the M5 is capable of hdmi output. Mhl and slimport seem to be absent.
I used a USB c combo dongle , it had USB A female and sd card slot.
On holiday I used it to copy my gopro videos to ssd. It wasn't pushing usb 3 speeds and the system acts a little weird when it is plugged in - movies that are downloading on amazon or Google play would go to the ssd or sdcard plugged in from otg, even though I have an sdcard in the external asd slot

Weird, I've tried it with Hugo 2 / UAPP playing hi-res flac and it seems to work fine. I set it in bit perfect mode and the bit rate indicator LED showed the correct bitrate. I did have to try a couple of unplug/replug to get the tablet to do some permission requests. It also worked with Youtube and the default Android audio system - though I did have to stop UAPP kicking in.
USB C can power external hard drive, and ive got one of those USB to 2.5in adapters that powers a 1tb toshiba laptop drive and that's ok too, the tablet also give me the option to reverse charge, so i presume it is capable of high amp output on the port, maybe up to 1A or more

Yeah the USB port isn't working correctly. It's supposed to be USB 3.0, but i am copying at 18MB/s (onto an SD card capable of 100MB/s)

Seriously dissapointed, and I know it sounds silly but this device isn't useful without USB 3.0, I have an action camera and hence I copy video to internal SD card. What use is a device if you can't input/output to it fast enough.

Have same experience. Really regret buying high end Huawei M5 and then realised I could not use it with HDMI cable. Wireless projection is really lag!
For folks with slow USB data issues, it mat be that you need a powered hub for it to work optimally. I've had this issue with a few Android devices over the years.

Dell monitor u2212
1 Digital Visual Interface connectors (DVI-D) with HDCP
1 DisplayPort (DP)
1 Video Graphics Array (VGA)
1 USB 2.0 upstream port
4 USB 2.0 downstream ports
upstream and downstream are a mystery to me...
furthermore i wouldn't mind connecting the tablet to my LG smart tv which has 3 HDMI slots and 3 USB slots. all the hdmi slots are in use... can i get the full tablet experience using the USB ports? or better to use HDMI..

If you are planning to use your tablet as the primary 'desktop' or use it for an extended period of time, I think the best option is to look into a USB C hub/dock, ideally one with 2 USB C ports or a USB C + VGA port combination. This allows you to charge your tablet while maintaining display via the other usb c port (with USB C to VGC/DP cable) or via VGA to VGA to the monitor.
If your television is a Smart TV, you might want to check if screen mirror is available. If so, you can screen cast your tablet to the TV via the tablet's SmartView and work cableless. There is small latency and this method is suitable for light activities. If you plan to stream media, the better approach is to do through usb c to HDMI for more seamless experience and not have shutters. On your TV you can look at getting a HDMI switch/splitter if all ports are filled.

I'll start looking at USB C hubs. i hope i can transition to a tablet as my primary desktop. my old system - a dell windows 7 - doesn't even have the newer usb C port. i'll check my LG TV to see if it will mirror. tho i can free up an HDMI port by removing a netbook.

I was wondering if it is possible to use the tab s7 plus as a monitor/tv to connect my pc or nintendo switch to using a hdmi usb-c hub.
My son cracked my 55 inch oled tv and dont feel like using my pc monitor.
I have looked and have seen ways to use a capture card but there were some comments that there is possible lag, also other ways like using SuperDisplay which works fantastic for pc but cant use nintendo switch or anything else with it. Is there a way to use it with ugreen usb hub?

Well, in theory, USB capture cards can work if they have ANDROID App support in general, but yes, the input lag might be high, it could suck for gaming and even the quality is questionable. Instead of buying some "expensive" capture cards, you could grab some second-hand TV or a smaller PC monitor.
Regarding that Ugreen USB hub, that won't work. That HDMI port is OUTPUT, and it's mentioned in the specs. That means it will only output your TAB's screen to an external display.
