ADB Backup - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Does anyone here have experience using "adb backup" with his or her Sprint S8+? I posted in the general S8+ forum but was informed that I might have better luck here.
I am using an up-to-date "platform tools" via "sdkmanager" for ADB. I have been told by non-Sprint users that their backup sizes are 1GB+. My sizes have been much smaller than this.
Can anyone comment on this? Thank you!

If so, elaborate.
Thanks,
Its possible to do it with adb and the command line. Are you familar with using one?
Im very familiar with my mac. I've only used terminal twice to run some java code I wrote.

i think he meant ADB and the command line
Ok, so the extent of my knowledge, as it pertains to ADB and terminal, is limited. I can search my mac for files using terminal. Thats it..
I too would appreciate someone to break it down for a n00b such as myself. I don't have a copy of windows so if there is a way without bootcamp that would be awesome!
I've ported DG's aRoot script to a mac form, but I've never done anything like this before so at the moment I'm waiting him to respond to a PM asking permission to post it.
I thought I remembered him saying somewhere that he gave public permission to use the script, but I've been unable to find it. If anyone can find me this link, I'll post it, otherwise I will as soon as I get DG's blessing (assuming he gives it).
Would you be able to use VMware Fusion for something like this - with windows installed? I was about to try that until I read this thread. May have dodged a bullet there. I've been reading this forum for weeks, very informative. Learnin' a bunch.
Cheers.

[GUIDE] Fre3vo / Fre3dom Official Thread

[GUIDE] Fre3vo / Fre3dom Official Thread (Discontinued)
#teamwin is proud to announce the Fre3vo tool for the HTC EVO 3D and Sensation!
What is Fre3vo: Fre3vo is a temp-root acquiring tool, allowing users access to a root shell on their HTC EVO 3D and Sensation devices.
What is Fre3dom: Fre3dom was the name of the tool being developed to enable S-OFF on the EVO 3D and Sensation. This has been abandon since AlphaRevX has announced on twitter that they've had the devices open for weeks now.
Fre3vo can be downloaded here: http://tinyw.in/1lJ
Prereqs:
1. You must be able to push files via adb to your device.
2. You must know what a shell is.
Instructions:
1. Download the fre3vo zip
2. Unzip the fre3vo binary
3. Push the binary via 'adb push fre3vo /data/local/tmp'
4. Change the permissions via 'adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/fre3vo'
5. Run the binary via 'adb shell /data/local/tmp/fre3vo'
If all goes well, you'll be kicked back to your computer's command prompt. (Some may get more messages, but it seems the Sensation buffers the stderr more than the EVO 3D)
run 'adb shell' and you should have a '#' prompt instead of '%'.
This is temporary root. A reboot will clobber it. There are many threads with scripts for doing what the community has dubbed "perma-temp root", which lets you run all your root-based apps.
[Reserved for future details]
[More reserved for future use]
Want to thank you and your team for all the effort and contributions you've given to this community.
I have updated the FAQ with the contents of last nights "meeting".
I will update this post with results once testing beings.
Thanks Again!
adb?
just curious- does the posted instructions/script have anything to do with the install process? And if so how do we get adb to work? I've had no luck so far running adb on the 3D.
Maybe getting adb to work on a non-rooted phone can be explained so we can prepare for this when it drops. Thanks in advanced for any help.

Here's a good thread regarding ADB. Sorry if you already know all that. I've gotten it to work, but every command results in the "adb server is out of date. killing......" message. In the end, the command goes through, but it has to restart the sever every single time.
FWIW, I didn't take any updates.
This thread is closed. When this rom is ready to go, then it can be re-opened, until then I don't see any actual development ongoing in here.
agrabren - PM me when your ready to post the rom.

I imagine yes. You wont fight much info here in this forum (not sure why there isnt a whole lot of info here but there is other places). Team Win did say they will eventually tell HTC about the exploit. I am sure once they do that it will not be an issue to tell anyone else.
Thank you this worked for me on latest OTA.

#teamwin only tells HTC about intentional exploits. non intentional they dont:
20:28 <@joshua_> agrabren, By the way, traditionally, unrevoked's policy is to report to vendors holes that appear to be 'intentional' (see skyagent), but to package and protect vulnerabilities like that the best we can.
20:29 <@agrabren> This was a non-intentional hole.
20:29 <@joshua_> Yeah. Traditionally, unrevoked just packs and protects that sort of thing until someone finally reverses them.
20:30 <@joshua_> We'd love to be able to do the responsible disclosure thing, but this is an arms race...

Nook Tablet "One Click Root" - MERGED WITH INDIRECT'S ROOT - THREAD CLOSED

MOD EDIT : As requested by OP, I'm closing this thread.
Everyone can continue the rooting related discussions on the other thread linked here. Full root for Nook Tablet. [11/20/11] [Yes this is a permanent root!].
All,
Here is a "one click" script to root your Nook Tablet AND install gapps (Market) all in one shot. It also includes the latest superuser binary and apk (automatically installed). MAD PROPS to Indirect for being the first to get root on the NT. This script builds off of his (and others) work to make it a bit easier.
I need people to test this. That being said, RUN THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. It may work perfectly, or it may explode your Nook. You've been warned!
1. Download and extract the zip file located at https://rapidshare.com/files/3156164791/NT-One-Click-Root-by-anlog.zip (PLEASE MIRROR THE FILE FOR ME SO YOU DON'T KILL MY DROPBOX ACCOUNT).
2. Factory reset your Nook Tablet (just do it).
3. Run Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit). Sorry Mac and Linux, but that's not my arena.
4. Enable USB debugging and sideloading on your Nook (download an APK and try to install it with package manager. Hit settings and set the options). YOU MUST uncheck "auto mount USB" or debugging won't activate. There are also two checkboxes for debugging and staying awake - make sure both are set. DO NOT REBOOT your Nook once you enable these settings.
5. Plug in your Nook and point Windows to search for the drivers in the usb_drivers directory from the etracted file. The driver has been modified to work with the Nook Tablet and you don't need to mess with any adb.ini stuff. It's ready to go.
6. Once the driver loads, make sure you have a device called "ADB Composite Device" (or something similar) in Device Manager. As long as you don't have an item called "Nook Tablet" with an exclamation point, you're good. Once you are plugged in, check the status bar on your Nook and make sure USB debugging is enabled (there will be a little robot indicator).
7. This step is optional, since it is run at the beginning of the script, but you can open a command prompt AS ADMINISTRATOR and go to the folder where you extracted your files and run "adb devices". It should list your Nook serial number. If it doesn't, start over.
8. Run a command prompt as Administrator and then run the NookTabRoot.bat file to root your tablet and install gapps. Your tablet will automatically restart once the script finishes.
This script is ALPHA and probably won't work, but that's why I need people to test. If anyone finds a way to make it better, please feel free to modify it (as long as you credit me and Indirect).
Good luck!

Thanks a lot, this is going to be quite helpful.
anlog, can you please remove the rooting script from yours as it will make it harder for me to provide support if they are in your thread as well. Im happy the gapps is there but I really don't want aanyone to be missed when they need help.
Note: Seriously not trying to be a **** but this is the early stages of rooting and I would HATE for someones system to be completely screwed and I don't know they need help.
P.S.: Just link to the original root thread saying you must have rooted before you proceed with this script.
After that, I'll happily help you work on this script and offer support for this as well.

Your root method is not easy enough for the average user, which is why I've posted this.
I'm not removing anything. It's up to the community to decide if they want to try my script or not. I will host it and setup my own mirrors if I have to.

Sorry to see you cave in so easily...
I'm not being disrespectful but my script really isn't too complicated. I was working on rewriting the thread anyway I just haven't gotten the time yet until now. I've been out all day.
This early in the process, it is great having multiple ways to achieve root.
Can't you each add a disclaimer in your package "If you use this method to root, don't use any other method without doing a full factory reset first" or whatever words would be appropriate?
Mostly - don't get ticked at each other.
It's not a multiple way, it's verbatim my script with his added to it.
This is not a glory or recognition thing. This is something that I think will greatly help the community of average users with little to no experience with things like ADB or Unix commands.
Many every day users are discovering XDA and it can be very difficult for them to navigate through the forums and find what they are looking for. My goal is to make it really easy.
The script will not blow up your Nook. The worst thing that can happen is that it just doesn't work.
Not sure what else to say, but this "only one user is allowed to help people root" nonsense doesn't work for me, nor the rest of the community. Sorry Indirect. If it helps, I've credited you at the beginning of my script.
OK - then I would say don't include an early version of a root script except by reference... Let the original author handle the bugs and enhancements.
I dont see a problem with useing each others method as long as the appropriate credit is given when you use someone else's work in your own.

You mean your script with a bunch of STANDARD adb commands in it? Not exactly rocket science. Did you write zergrush? No, but you used it (and credited them accordingly).
"Your script" <-- I atleast want people to ask permission before blindly taking my work in the first place. I didn't say this is released under public domain for anyone to use, I would like you to ask before. Use it, whatever but seriously, It kind of upsets me that you didn't bother checking with me if it was alright to atleast use my script. If anyone wants support, come to this thread if you use it. I am not able to help you as I did not develop the addition to this.

YOUR SCRIPT IS A BUNCH OF STANDARD ADB COMMANDS. That means that 100% of all other ADB scripts out there use elements from the script you pieced together from other scripts.
Get over it. You obivously only care about recognition. My only goal is to help other people.
anlog, you have clearly not seen any of my other work. I'm not in it for recognition, I need to know if something goes wrong at all and if so, what caused it. That's it.

Enjoy this script anlog, I appreciate your help finding the driver fix and be sure to reference me in your thread as well for proper credits. Enjoy your evening, I'm no longer debating about this as it's stupid. I think we can both agree on that.
And before you think I'm just being a ****, I wrote a script for the evo shift that was ridiculously advanced for the job JUST to make it so people can't screw it up.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277793 <-- read about it there.
okay, so not to get in the middle of anything, I will say I've successfully rooted my nook tablet with the original method. didn't have any luck installing the android market (and getting it running).
as such, I've done a factory restore and have downloaded the script here.
as someone who is fairly computer literate, but is VERY new to rooting (short of 1 click root), I will take the shortest path possible. no loss of credit to indirect. please guys, all your work is recognized.
will report back shortly.

Dude we need people like you to build off other's work. We both agree that if there is a super easy way to root and get Market, more people will buy the NT. From the second I started this thread you were credited in the first line of my script. I will also credit you in the beginning of this thread. I am NOT about stealing other people's work. Your work here is GREATLY appreciated!

Sorry for getting annoyed and worked up but I already had to play "Dueling Batch Scripts" in the evo shift section when mine was CLEARLY superior to the other ones by far because I was still developing it. :| So again, my apologies for losing my head but don't wait too long for my REAL script to be thrown together sometime tonight and blow yours out of the water.

Build.prop for LG G3 LS990 or HELP upon topic

So basically I have the same problem . . Well almost, so basically I had been messing with my build.prop and everything was going just fine the whole time through out. So after I was done modding pretty much, well I was testing out different settings I can input to change my Spring LS990 to work with the T-mobile carrier, including having to enter into a "secret menu" through the phone dial, but ended up bricking it. So after I was done therefore, I went and copy-paste the backup I made of the build.prop, straight into /system folder. After applying confirmations and letting it do it's job, I gave it a reboot for the copy to take effect and that's where I ran into the problem of having a boot loop on the LG logo screen and being able only to turn it off by removing the battery. Also I'm able to enter recovery, use ADB (kinda), but keep getting denied access/permission/privileges to use other functions in ADB exept the "adb sideload" command, but even that results in mounting failure and signature+foot errors. Yes, I've been to numerous posts and forums, searching everywhere for info on my own repair and ended up here post this. Really appreciate your help, am willing to pay considerable amount for repair if extremely necessary and would also like to end up getting the phone to work with T-mobile if possible.
Android release: 5.0.1 (Lollipop)
Rom: Stock
Kernel: Stock
Carrier: T-mobile
Storage: 32GB
Model: LS990
Question me if anything else is needed.
Thank you,
Blessings,
Dave.

Have a good one!

To stop Tethering data being differentiated and tracked by phone supplier.

Sony Xperia Z2 D6503 Marshmallow (6.0.1) Build 23.5.A.1.291 - Unlocked using This solution.
I am quite new to flashing phones. I have done it in the past but it was a great deal easier back when I last did it at the dawn of Android.
My issue is simply, I want to stop my supplier (Three) from being able to differentiate between my phone downloading data and when I tether it to something. I had unlimited data but a limitation on tethering which I thought was a bit sneaky and crap. So, after rooting my phone successfully, what else will I need to do in order to stop Three from snooping and differentiating my traffic?
Thank you all in advance for your help.
This is not a device-orientated question, in fact you should ask this question in the General or Q&A forum so that more professionals from all the brands can help you out.

Thanks dude, but there was no database file in the specified folder.
Then you should try to find where Sony puts that file. Have you tried using the search function of your file explorer to see if it exists in other places?

I have now and found a file with the same name but it doesn't contain the same data. It was found in a completely different folder within the data, data subfolders.
As in there is no "global" subsection.
I have found a solution.
Open a command prompt
Run ABD (Browse to folder, by default cd c:\abd\ and then type ABD shell)
At the prompt type: settings put global tether_dun_required 0
hit enter.
Type exit and hit enter.
This was you don't have to edit database files you use the shell to make the change which is a far safer way forward anyway.
Restart your phone. Viola.
