I'm looking forward to this phone but I certainly do not wish to buy an unfixable exploit.

UPDATE 3D BootLoaders From HTC VIA Facebook

Straight from HTC's Facebook page we have a general time line now looks like August September
How do you guys feel about it ?
HTC
Devs, we’re making lots of progress on unlocking bootloaders: Today we can confirm the HTC Sensation and HTC EVO 3D will be supported! See out note for more info:
Update on Bootloaders
Thanks so much for providing feedback, we hear your concerns. Your satisfaction is a top priority for us and we're working hard to ensure you have great experiences with our phones. We're reviewing the issue and our policy around bootloaders and will provide more information soon. Thank you for your interest, support and willingness to share your feedback. **UPDATE** We’ve listened. Check out the statement from our CEO, Peter Chou on HTC bootloaders. Click the link for more info. http://on.fb.me/iZXgkR **UPDATE 7/10** <!-- p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 48.0px; font: 15.0px Calibri} --> We wanted to provide an update on HTC’s progress with bringing bootloader unlocking to our newest phones. We know how excited some of you are for this capability, and we’ve put significant resources behind making this change as soon as possible. While we wish we could flip a simple switch and unlock all bootloaders across our device portfolio, this is actually a complex challenge that requires a new software build and extensive testing to deliver the best possible customer experience. We’re thrilled to announce today that software updates to support bootloader unlocking will begin rolling out in August for the global HTC Sensation, followed by the HTC Sensation 4G on T-Mobile USA and the HTC EVO 3D on Sprint. We’re in the testing phase for the unlocking capability now, and we expect it to be fully operational by early September for devices that have received the software updates. We'll continue rolling out the unlocking capability over time to other devices as part of maintenance releases and new shipments. HTC continues its commitment to unlocking bootloaders and supporting the developer community. Because of the importance of this community to us, please expect an update on this about every few weeks as we make progress toward launch. Thank you for your patience and continued support!

Which makes sense, does it not? I think it does.
I'm more than happy with the phone, it is a very nice piece of hardware without without root capabilities.... Sprint's network on the other hand..............
I can play around with sense for 2 more months.

IThe 3D is a pretty awesome phone as-is. So 2 months wont kill me. I had hoped it would be a lot sooner tho. I will still be checking here daily to see if anyone beats them to it.
At least they are actually doing it, I'm sure Sprint isn't the most excited. Props 2 them usually huge corporations could care less about stuff like this.

it will be alot sooner and it WON'T be fron HTC, I have faith in the greatness here with the devs hard at work on this.
That's great news!
Wow I really like that. However I just wanted to say this one thing. Thanks to all the DEV's working hard at the unlock. They have my respect. Plus well see with HTC. I hope the devs can steal the glory.
Yeah Forget HTC the idiots already know how to unlock it because they are the fools that locked it, Power to the DEVS!

[Q] Now no August release?

So, take this for what it is worth. I was in Best Buy this afternoon checking out the Photon when I asked what he had heard about the GS2. He checked his computer and said they don't have an official date, but they had been given a date of September 4th for when they would be receiving more information. He also said with that, that it would be extremely unlikely to see the phone before then. I have no idea if this guy was blowin' smoke and for all of our sakes, I hope he was. It would be very bad news indeed for those of us expecting an August release.
What do you guys think? Does someone in his position really have access to that type of information, especially this early?

Different Angle on Bootloader Unlock

I was thinking about Asus's statement that they would release the unlock tool in response to the Facebook, social network, etc. campaign. Has anyone else considered that Asus had no intention of releasing the tool but instead was just calming the flames as quickly as possible so that they could sell off the inventory they had and prevent those who found this to be a deal breaker from returning their tabs. They give a February release date for the tool knowing that the majority of the tabs would be sold in January thereby getting past any 30 day return issues. They then bank on the fact that most would wait out the month for the unlock tool. This is pure speculation but given their history of issues with the release, gps, and wifi, I'm starting to wonder.
I don't understand why they would do such a thing. If you unlock the bootloader on your device, you void the warranty.
Asus won't have to support your device anymore and you would be able to play with roms (or even brick your TF201) all you want.
It's a win-win situation IMO.
I doubt it. Lying to your customers seems like it would cause so much more negative press and make people not want to buy from you again. I know if they never released it, I personally wouldn't ever buy anything from Asus again as I don't want to support a company who lies to their customers.
Not only would they lose out on us buying future products, they would also lose out on us recommending their stuff to others. I personally have recommended the Prime to 2 other people and they bought it after that. They would be losing all that money too because if they did lie to us, then in the future I'd try hard to get people not to buy Asus products since I wouldn't want anyone to support a lying company.
But I believe in Asus and I think they'll release it soon.
I agree it wouldn't make good business sense, but their last two tablet releases have been absolute disasters. They made a device with what can only be described as a "signal shield" for a backing, throttled supply, released it before it was ready, and then decided to announce a newer version with the fix we should have had. They haven't done anything that's logical in the last 18 months. I'm just saying that I have my questions as to whether there is any intention of releasing an unlock tool anytime soon. I seriously hope I'm wrong.
The TF101 was a disaster? Huh... *Races to phone* Quick! Call every major technology news outlet and blog, tell them they were wrong! Ha, I'm just kidding, but yeah, I understand the Prime has faults. I am ordering one very very soon and I look forward to it. I am not concerned with the WiFi issue as I have played with one in my house and at school and so far I have not a single complaint. I have returned the test unit to my friend today and I can't wait for mine to arrive!
As was noted i the other thread today on WiFi and the Bootloader, releasing an unlocker is a legal nightmare. NOT because it voids warranties - that's a good thing for Asus, but because they have to "Present" it with the correct legalese. There are places where a warranty CANNOT BE VOIDED by things like user actions especially with an ASUS provided tool.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1503267
Its just too complicated in today's litigation happy world to do obvious practical solutions without spending huge amounts of resources doing CYA... A shame, really.
Well I'm sure the story would be run on Web sites that they lied and would be pretty horrible press. I think it will come.
I think some are missing my point. We didn't set the February timeline, they did. If it's a legal nightmare then they shouldn't have said anything about a release time frame. I wasn't starting a "trash the prime" thread, I can live with its shortcomings if the bootloader is unlocked. And to the response about the original transformer, the release was a disaster and that's what I was talking about in the OP. All I know is that there's 11 days left in the month and there are people saying they know people on the inside that are disputing an unlock in February or possibly ever.

Yeah, February is just past half over, still plenty of time. I expect them to hold to their word on this personally and will not speculate or pass judgment until March 1
That would be the worst mistake they ever made in their lives. I would personally call chuck norris.

Well Motorola does it all the time and ppl still buy their junk. They promised a bootloader unlocker for the various Droid phones in 2011 and then... silence. Don't ever trust a "promise" from a corporation they mean nothing.
Asus has worked on the bootloader. A well known dev (Bumblebee) had posted on twitter a message congratulating Asus for taking the first steps in implementing the code necessary to unlock the bootloader. That code appears in the .13 firmware update.
Bumblebee is one of the devs that found rooting exploits for the TF and TFP so I trust what he says. He is often found in the #asus-transformer IRC channel.

Take it for what it's worth, just a thought. I guess it's crazy to think that Asus wouldn't release the tool in February.
Funny. I saw a post from you the other day and did a big WTF.

It may not hit in Feb, but I'd attribute that more to legalities and not fraud.

Not trying to derail the thread, but I've been wondering... Does anyone know what devs have been working with the prime? I'm never on IRC and am not in 'the loop'. I guess I'm mainly wondering who to expect ROM's, themes and kernels from.

Sony in nutshell

Promise update to come out verry soon, releases update very late or never.
Never up to date.
Release new tablet to fix issues with old tablet.
Has many products on market and budget stuff that is up to date, while something that costed premium still are outdated.
Does nothing but pissing everyone off.
Explains they gonna reduce amount products they release, release new products at the same time.

5.1.1 Incoming! For Real!

Yup, the Z3v is actually getting 5.1.1! The Z2 Tablet is as well. I never thought I'd see the day, but I'm happy for you guys! I personally have a Z1s on T-Mobile that I am still hoping gets 5.1, but I very much doubt it at this point.

Link to actual Verizon support page about the update: http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/sony-xperia-z3v-update/
It looks like this update is going to start rolling tomorrow according to some of the support pages saying February 24th.
Just read that article! Make sure to read the actual info from Verizon in the sources at the bottom.
Holy smokes! That article is funny. Woof indeed.

WOW, IT'S REAL!
Now I hope this enables us to be able to access 5.1.1 mods from other Xperias.

Do you think you'll be able to get a pre-rooted version of this? I'm in a quandary cause I have a replacement Z3V coming tomorrow. If this is released tomorrow maybe I'll just use stock until a root solution for 5.1.1 comes out. Advice?
I loved being proven wrong sometimes...this is one of those times.
The possibility exists they have patched the root exploits finally and that is why they are releasing it. I have a z2 Verizon tablet and at the moment there is no root for lollipop
Pleasantly surprised! Thought for sure this phone was done getting updates and i was stuck on nonrooted 5.0.2. I flashed it before rooting like an idiot

I'm willing to give it a shot to preroot it once I get my hands on the FTF.
Thanks, GigaSPX. An you give a few examples?
Now that I have a second z3V I'm opened to testing some things, so long as there is a somewhat reasonable main of error against "embrickment". I might require more paience than most because of where I'm at on the learning curve.
BTW, this update pretty much fulfills both Sony and Verizon's obligations to the z3V stepchild as Iunderstand it, so most likely no Marshmallow just because this is coming, correct?

Well the future seems pretty bleak between Sony and Verizon over this phone because Sony is really just done trying to work with Verizon over these update issues. One thing I can definitely let you guys know though is there is a high likely chance the bootloader unlock is about to become a real thing.
Other than that, the Z series is finished now. No plans for the Z6 as Sony has transitioned their portfolio for the new X series. I somewhat knew that because of the X Performance specs, that has to be their latest flagship. Your guys' thoughts?

Do you have any info on if the Z1s bootloader is about to be able to be unlocked as well? That would be amazing and make the wait for my next phone sometime this year a lot easier.

Z3v Software Update
Software Version: 23.4.B.0.319
and the surprise; i had an update message via sony bridge for like 2 month ago but i keep getting : error 1100 consult technical support … "when i try to upgrade"
Well what do you know there is an update, wonders never cease, will reserve further comments until it is actually confirmed rolling out.
Haven't gotten it yet here in Texas.
I guess the natives got to restless with the pitchforks and all.
Now just have to decide if I want the S5 or keep the Z3v, seeing this will more than likely be the last update this phone gets and the S5 will get Marshmallow for sure. And Advanced Calling 2.0 is right around the corner (Wi-Fi calling) and 5g.
If the bootloader gets unlocked then I would keep the Z3v, but the S5 has custom ROMs right now, root and bootstrap working.
Just got complicated.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/0...ver-the-air-bump-from-android-5-0-2-to-5-1-1/
Only article that says it will come in batches. I have both. I actually have to have my sim in my z2 tablet to even search for an update.
And of course I just sold mine, as in the last 10hrs
Why the presumption of the bootloader unlock possibility? How does the fact (yet to be proved) that they'll update to lollipop increase the odds that the bootloader will be unlocked?
