Depends how you update. Just don't update with ota or pc companion.
1 Downgrade to 4.4.2
2 Root phone
3 Install recovery for locked bootloader
4 Flash rooted 4.4.4 zip in recovery
5 latest firmware and root remains
I am new to Sony devices (been a Samsung guy for years). I have had my Z2 less than a fortnight but already I'm itching to root it etc, problem is it seems a lot more complicated than Samsung devices. I was always switching between roms on my S4/note 2. I am on the latest firmware and would like to root it to be able to use xposed but I'm scared of messing it up and as the phone is under warranty don't want to end up with a paper weight.
Has anyone done a detailed tutorial for newbies like myself?
Thanks in advance
Scotty.

It's not really that hard and there are also of resources online that can guide you.
1 Downgrade to 4.4.2 is required as noone had found a vulnerability with 4.4.4.
2 Root phone
For step 1 and 2, Have a look at this http://www.xda-developers.com/android/how-to-root-the-sony-xperia-z2-xda-developer-tv/
3 install recovery for lock bootloader
Have a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785598
4 install a 4.4.4 zip through recovery. I recommend this one as its basically stock http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/development/stock-4-4-4-23-0-1-0-167-bug-free-t2929402

It depends on how you want to root, you can root and permanently void your warrentg or you can root and keep your bootloader locked

never heard of that one before and after doing some research on that one click root saw it work for some people on different phones tried it didn't work the interface is in a different language (chinese/japanese not sure) also in order for it to do a root on your phone you first have to allow mock location in developer mode ( suspicious ) in the end it failed with some error number
just to root

I am all about rooting this darn phone. I had it since it was released and have actively been searching for a tool....I myself am not a developer. Towel root was the latest hope but the kernal was patched, so that was no good.
We do have some hope though....there is an exploit found and I mentioned it in another thread hoping someone would know something....I got no where.
I can't really complain, I am not a developer....i am just hoping there is a developer out there that has the phone and can root it.....all I can do is hope and dream.
Here is what I found....lets hope someone can pick this up and root our firmware (which even isn't on sammobile - whats that all about??)

I was doing some more searching on root, and found that the Galaxy S6 has achieved root without unlocking the bootloader.
Is there anyone out there that can look at this and see if the same exploit can used in the Alpha (specifically the 850A (AT&T?)) We have been living without root purely because of the locked bootloader and am hoping someone is able to see if this can be ported. The upside for all is that is is reported to not trip KNOX

For SM-G850A to be rooted
1. Once its rooted, you can only delete files you dont need.
2, You cant install cook ROM because the bootloader is always lock.
So everyone is only trying to get to #1 ?

To be honest, that really all I need for root. Uninstall some apps and install some root apps like viper4android and adaway.
Base TouchWiz rom is not too bad. Just install a launcher of your preference and TW "somewhat" replaced.

Unroot?

Hello,
I have a problem with the Redmi Note 4, I am trying to use an app that is not working if the phone is rooted and ofc it's not working because apparently the phone IS rooted and I can't find anywhere how to unroot it.
The ROM is global and it's version 8.0.6 or something. Anyway, can someone please advise how to unroot it please?
Cheers,

Can you post a screenshot of your about phone screen in settings? Did you install any roms since getting it? As the global stable/dev roms dont have root by default, i dont even think it can be enabled global dev like the china dev rom. Its possible you have a vendor/reseller rom and so recommended to flash an official rom asap as the current one may contain malware/spyware/backdoors/etc.

so the phone arrived yesterday bought from aliexpress, there should be no root indeed for a global rom but even if i install an app that requires root it says that root is not present. being bought from aliexpress i assume the vendor opened the box and installed a custom rom. I will try to flash an official one today.
try to use Xposed and rootcloack or suhide
suhide won't work with Xposed tho, so your Gona have to remove Xposed if the first option doesn't work
I'm guessing it's a banking app had the same problem

Upgrading Huawei mate 10 lite to android 8.0

Hello everyone.I wanted to update my new Mate 10 lite to android 8.0 with the custo installation method that requires unlocking bootloader that i found on internet, but i realized that using it will break my warranty and i dont want that. Will it be available throught normal System update later on,or is this the only way? Thank you.
i have the same quastion. but the update will come soon i am waiting for it because its a very big one face unlock...
I'm sure it's coming through OTA in a few weeks, don't risk your warranty on it, I'd rather wait and avoid any hassles with the bootloader and rooting.

For model T295 there is no other way. Rooting is only possible with bootloader 3 version 9 of android, but it cannot be installed if the current bootloader version is already 4, since the downgrade is blocked ...
