Play store extremely slow (after latest system update) - Honor 9 Questions & Answers

Since a week or two the downloads from the Play Store from my Honor 9 are extremely slow (as in a few b/sec). This happens on wifi (both at home and at work) and 4G, it doesn't seem to make any difference. I already cleared the cache of the Playstore app, rebooted a few times, but nothing seems to help.
I think it happens since I updated to the latest firmware, STF-L09C432B130, but I'm not sure.
For the record, when the Playstore is slow, speedtest shows no problem at all. Websites, downloads etc. all are at normal speed (20+Mb/sec), it's just the Playstore that is extremely slow.
Does anyone recognize this on his Honor 9?

Have you tried performing a hard factory reset but wipe the cache partition in the Recovery Menu?

A hard factory reset is a last resort for me, I don't want to lose a whole day re-configuring my phone if I don't have to. Any other options available?
Can I delete the Play Store app and re-download it somehow?

I believe you can only remove the updates. Unless you're rooted.

Too bad, I have no root, and don't want to root the phone because of some work related apps.
Are there no Honor 9-owners with similar issues, because I really feel it's related to the latest system update.

To be honest, I think my playstore is rather slow too. It took 1 minute to download 50mb app.

Which update revision are you guys referring to? I am still with B100 and haven't experienced any issues so far. Everything runs fast and smoothly.

it's happening on my H9 too, where it just out right refuses to download from the playstore and usually requires me to reboot the phone to get it to download anything, and it's really frustrating, as i can't even roll back to B100 where i had no issues at all, and i'm pretty much checking for updates a few times a day, as this bug is doing my head in.

I have exactly the same experience.
Gesendet von meinem STF-L09 mit Tapatalk

Not sure what I did but just now I downloaded emui theme editor (90mb) and it took about 10 seconds. This is on my home WiFi with 30mbps connection.

Mine is still painfully slow. When I press update, the app is updated literally hours later. My other Android devices on the same Wifi have no problems at all, it is just this phone after the update.
Let's hope Huawei/Honor will fix this soon... I'll try to get in contact with them through technical support and refer them to this thread as well. Maybe others with the same problem can do the same to put some pressure on it?

Update: tech support just replies with a standard answer. First try a factory reset, and if that doesn't work I have to send my phone to a repair center.
Worthless answer, I'll may try a reset one day.

Try wiping cache from recovery first. Be careful not to wipe the data

I have wiped the cache, and the speed of the Play Store has improved. The max speed is now about 1MB/s, which is acceptable. Thanks for the tip, and let's hope it'll stay like this

Unfortunately, the improved speed was only for a short period. It's back to a few kb/s again. I swiped the cache again, and voila; speed is back up to 1Mb/s. Something is definitely wrong with the software. Maybe I'll try a full factory reset later, but I don't want to spend a full day reconfiguring my phone and apps again

Try uninstall both play store and play service updates then restart. Let it auto update the programs first then check the speed again.

[Q] Market will not download any apps

So after coming back from vanilla bean to stock using the MR1 upgrade I can't download anything from the market. It just all fails. I really need this up quickly any help would be great thanks!

It hangs for a few seconds then says "download unsuccessful"
To follow up I have cleared data in market through app management, factory reset, and disabling mobile data and renabling it.
One last update it's randomly kinda fixed... Some are downloading others aren't. At this point I am going to assume it is a server-side problem and get some sleep. Will update when I wake up.

Nope it isn't downloading anything. Any clues guys?
EDIT: I'm really losing my mind over this. I've searched all over the internet. I've tried clearing data on many apps, but cannot find the "google apps" I'm supposed to clear. If I download through my pc (Send it from the android market to my phone through pc interface) it works just fine...
Okay I've removed my sd card and lots more. I started a new google email as I heard that worked and it did, but everything that I've bought is gone... So obviously this has something to do with my current gmail address... I think... Any clues?

Cant dwnload or update apps from Google Play

Hi guys and geeks, its time to work your magic and fire up your amazing brain cells. I am totally new here and its my first post, so please dont be that hard at me if ill screw something up
So my problem is after a 2 weeks usage of international version of my SGS3 i got a big problem. It started totally from nothing, to be specific it stopped through day.
Yesterday morning i was updating 1 app from Google play and i left my phone on desk.
I got back to it in evening and found out that 4 apps cannot be updated from unknown reason. I tried manual start of download- nothing, it will not start to download. just rolling the bar. I also found that i cant download any new app from GPlay.
I made a factory reset of phone today. Set it up, and its ready to go. IT STILL CANT DOWNLOAD THAT APPS. Why? Wifi is working normally (ONLY WIFI), can browse websites and so on.
Anyone help ??
Goto settings/Application manager/Google Play Store and select clear data and cache then see if it works.
Just google server problem mybe. Just wait
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I cleared data cache already, and it doesnt worked. Server problem? HUH.... maybe.... Though i highly doubt its server problem because i was asking a few my friends with android phones about this and their market is ok.
So got any ideas? Cuz im now stuck with empty phone after fact.reset and i cant work on it though.
Bump! Any suggestions?
Goto App manager again and uninstall updates.
Nope, i also combined it with phone restart. It cant download apps or update them.
go to settings, accounts and sync, remove google account. Add account again and it should work.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Did it twice now. Result? Phone likes to roll bars. But thats all he wants to do. Still cant start download.
So i contacted Samsung Customer Support about this and i described it at whole. The guy said he would do exact same thing and i have done good. He gave an advice of taking out the battery for 15 mins - it would reset the device and pull it in and try. Still nothing.
Any idea out there? Because if i will not be able to do more, im sending this damn phone to for service repair because i have 2 years warranty. This is truly f*cking unbelievable. My first Android device. Upgraded from HTC HD2. 600€ phone. Crap.
Had a similar problem a few days back where it just gave an error message. Went into settings / all apps and cleared data from Google services framework. Rebooted and it was fixed.
Edit: just remembered, the above solution may have helped but it didn't completely fix my problem. Had to reboot into recovery, the in the advanced tab had to run 'fix permissions ', then all was fine. Only thing I could think of that may have caused the problem was flashing and testing cm10 before restoring my backup.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Tried Google Service Framework, didnt helped.
So i got into that recovery mode but there was no advanced tab. Only something like reboot now, wipe cache, wipe partition, factory reset .. Tried Wipe cache, and so on... Didnt helped....
Check your memory. Make sure there's at least 600-700mb left. My S3 kept giving me update errors whenever my internal memory fell below 500mb

Well if you want to start fresh, flash a CF root kernel and wipe cache, dalvik, system and then a factory reset. Flash a new rom after that. Don't reboot your recovery while doing this because you've wiped 'system' . What ever problems you had should have gone. I normally follow this procedure to make sure for a full wipe
Hope this helps
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Sir, i have truly no idea what are you talking about, im just getting that i have to load onto phone some loader and then flash some new rom which im 100% not going to do since i have fresh 2 year warranty and im not planning to break it.
I have already decided. Im calling authorized service center about details for sending my phone to get repaired. Either they will fix it, or ill get a new phone. Only good and Better.
So after few frakking days im back...
SUDDENDLY after 2 days of my last post it started working again like a charm. Downloaded most of the apps.
Then next day, it was gone again... Stopped working...
Also now its error 495 but after a very long time of rolling the bar ,like 10 mins.
AAH MY GOD HELP ME PLEASE WITH THIS!

Hi, I had the same problem as you and I 'fixed' it by Stopping the 'Downloading' rolling bar and then resuming it. I found that fixes it
Let me know if this works :good:
I wanted to try it but there is no pause button though, look for yourself

All right, there has to be a way to get this working since I had the same problem too
Try this :
Turn your phone off and on
Open Play Store and go into the screen where it says "X Updates available" and they are listed in rows
Click Update All and then the blue loading line starts to animate. Wait for a few seconds then click the X next to the first item that is downloading to stop it
Click Download/Resume again
It should start downloading.
The above steps worked for me, I got the S3 day before yesterday and I came across this problem for about 10 minutes 'til I did the steps above
Let me know how it goes :fingers-crossed:

Constantly Crashing

I have an issue that I cannot pinpoint the cause of figure out a solution to. Maybe someone here can help.
My Sprint G3 is always crashing and rebooting the launcher (phone doesn't turn off, just closes evwrything). I'd be in the middle of any app and it will randomly close every single app. The running apps page always displays after every crash. It's as if too much ram is being used, but it will happen even after a fresh phone restart and launching something simple like WhatsApp.
My phone is rooted via the Stump one click method. I don't have any type of rooted mods enabled, only Adfree. I use Nova launcher (paid & updated).
Is there some sort of event viewer that will log the activity of the phone so I probably someone here can see what might be causing the phone to crash? I'm tempted to Unroot and restore back to stock... But if I can avoid that, I'd greatly appreciate it.

If you're running ART that could cause that. Go back to dalvik and see if that cures it.

Maybe it's Adfree then. There's a special version that some people are using. It's in it forum somewhere. I'll see if I can find it.
In the meantime, uninstall it and see if it goes away.

Thanks. I've reverted my adfree hosts file and uninstalled it. But I think the issue persists. If I try to use any app that clears cache, specifically Clean Master, when it's doing the scan of apps it'll crash midway through the scan. If I go to system settings > Apps & wait for all the downloaded apps to load the details, it'll crash there too.
This is the oddest thing.
Edit:
This visual may help. It's a video of me running Clean Master & seeing how it just crashes. I can replicate this issue every time like this, but the crashes are random when using other apps.

Ok, so I began uninstalling some apps that I thought may have been the issue... Which they weren't as the crashing still continues. I decided to reboot under safe mode and the problem occurs there too.
I honestly cannot recall if this began before or after rooting with stump. I may have to Unroot & factory restore. =/

I'm at a loss... The 2 things I mentioned can be the culprits, but not for you I guess. Some other ideas?
Did you uninstall Stump after getting root?
Have you froze or uninstalled any system apps/ priv-apps?
It might even be Nova is having issues.
That's all I got.

I would try a restore to stock as the final option. If that doesn't fix it then I dunno man.

Tried to unroot but the phone doesn't move past the "Firmware Update. Do not unplug the phone..." screen after holding Volume Up & plugging into the computer. I installed the drivers before hand. But the "CDC Serial" doesn't update. I attempted to manually update the driver by browsing for the folder, but no go.
I may end up having to go to Sprint and exchange the phone for another one.

TL;DR version = Yes, I did fix it. Factory restore did the trick.
A few days after my last post the phone wasn't as bad as the video. It would still crash and reset but mainly after heavy app usage or when trying to clear app cache using any app like Clean Master.
Once my storage reached about 40% used and I couldn't clear the cache, I began to get constant Play Store error messages. No apps would update. I think it was error 483 or something close to hat number.
Since I couldn't flash back to stock because the drivers wouldn't install, I gave up and tried a factory reset. I nearly sh-t myself bc once I confirmed the restore, the phone didn't want to automatically reset per the instructions. I pressed the button multiple times and nothing. I pulled the battery and when I turned it back on, I got the initial screen with the "powered by android" and then black. It did not wanna do anything. Pulled battery again, same outcome. It left it for maybe 10min and still nothing.
I was ready to go back to sprint and see if I could exchange the phone. While researching the closest store, the phone beeped and the initial android setup screen appeared. This was about 25min of waiting on a black screen.
The phone is now back to working order and it's still rooted. There must have been a corrupt file that was erased/restored once the g3 decided to behave.

Congrats!
My G3 is crashing in the similar manner as the video you uploaded.
Except that it only happens when I'm in office connected to office wifi with almost no cellular reception.
On top of that, as far as I could tell... only two apps are causing the launcher to crash... the game Clash of Clans and LINE.
Very very strange....

Looking for Motorola Update Service components to disable to prevent OTA or OTA msg

Currently:
Android version 6.0.1
Model: XT1650-02
Build Number MCLS24.246-36-3
I'm one of many people experiencing issues with the Moto Z (Force) move to Nougat. In doing so, I have choppy audio, tinny sound, popping and crackling as well. When contacting Verizon, they claim that nobody else is complaining about this to a point where their company is notifying its CS reps with a resolution. When contacting Lenovo/Motorola, they claim that they've received a ton of complaints since the Nougat release, and suggested that I bring the phone back for a swap since I had only just purchased it. I did just that, and followed their additional instruction for not updating to Nougat. The only problem is that the freakin thing downloads automatically while on wifi within a day and no way to prevent it that I know of. Now I have this aggressive attempt of the OTA management to get me to start the process. I don't want to, but neither do I want to manage having to ignore this update every day, nor do I want to accidentally initiate the process. I'm looking for a bit of help.
I thought that if I disabled the Motorola OTA service that it wouldn't push. But it did push even though I stopped the service under developer options. And even now that it pushed, I hoped not to get the message, but there it is. And since I don't want to root yet, I can't clear the space in cache where the update is to prevent it from updating accidentally. I'm looking for the names of any other Moto services that might be related to the OTA that I can disable to prevent this from happening. I don't mind factory defaulting my phone and starting over to clear their cache, but once the update actually executes, I'm hosed with crappy audio again. My wife has the same phone and we have one day to get her a new one for free within our return period. We like the phone, do not want to get a different brand, and hope that we can find a solution to this. Again, I want to do this without rooting.
Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

Hi,
I myself greenified the app called "Motorola-Updateservices", package name is com.motorola.ccc.ota, apk name is 3c_ota.apk
Since then I never had another notification that nougat is available and I didn't search for updates either of course.

About to download and try it out. If it works, I'll be back in a couple days to report. If it doesn't, I'll be back sooner. Thank you for the suggestion.
Also, if you can provide any specific configurations to manage the OTA, I'm at your disposal.
SuD
PS I won't be searching for updates either, but I will be bugging Lenovo/Motorola to find out when the bug is fixed.
I'm rooted, have xposed and the donation version of the app.
As the OTA app is a system app you can't greenify it without having xposed installed and the donation package of Greenify.
Try to just disable the app with the normal app manager.

Debloater still works on 6.01 run it and 3c_ota.apk will be near the top of the list.

It worked on 6.01 but no longer on 7.0. If you debloat on 6.01 and take the OTA to 7.0 everything you've debloated stays that way unless you do a factory reset.
for some reason google took away the ability to use the adb commands in 7.0
Almost like they want us to be stuck with bloat lol.

I just tried it and I get some permission error. So it seems after the Dec patch it no longer works on '6.
I have Moto Z Play -1.
any suggestions for someone who might have accidentally downloaded the system update, but hasn't installed it yet? It makes me nervous, having that "new system software is downloaded and ready to install" message b/c I know one day I'll probably accidentally click on it and there won't be a way to go back.
I am a Z play owner.
By installing Z (not play) apps I believe I have disabled the OTA. But I have no nagging update to test it's functionality on.
To my point, if this does work then the reverse should work also.
I will up my apps if anyone want to try it.

Evidence it will work. https://www.darklaunch.com/2015/04/10/disable-motorolaota

Received the following error:
Code:
Processing changes to: Error: java.lang.SecurityException: Neither user 2000 nor current process has android.permission.MANAGE_USERS.
Drivers installed
USB Debugging set
RSA key accepted
Etc.
Seems a common error with some folks. As for me, this does not work on this phone at this time. Thank you for the nudge to look at this utility, as I have high hopes that its exactly what I need. I have posted in their forum, and have offered to test prototypes.
Thanks again.

Same as me on my z play.
The last patch did this.

Question Spy/malware removal

Is there any kind that actually works? I keep fishing around on Google play and everything is either old, doesn't work, or is full of sh*t, or a combination of all 3.
Welcome to XDA
If you're running Android 9 or higher simply do a factory reset. There are no known rootkits that can worm out of the user partition, once that data is wiped so is the malware.
Don't reload it again after the factory reset.

Thank you for the welcome. Sorry bout the late reply. I don't suppose there's another way is there? Im literally fresh out the box, I've never done a factory reset.

You're welcome. The other way is to find the malware and delete it completely.

Which would be how? Would I need a app or something for the pc? And if so do you have any recommendations? I have the mixsilver file manager on my phone (pixel 6 "Not pro"). Would there be a way I could find it thru there? Also my device is not rooted. So would I need to root? I'm sorry if this gets on your nerves. If so tell me, won't hurt my feelings. I'm literally a noob at this stuff. I've been trying to teach myself and just do trial and error but im getting in over my head and don't wanna accidentally brick my phone or worse.
What makes you sure you have spy/malware? Or do you mean adware?
Cheers
Tom
With Avast or AVG Antivirus you can do a pretty good scan of your apps, even system apps if you want.
For Factory reset see here https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/4596836
or go here on a PC (you need your Pixel connected by usb to the PC then): https://pixelrepair.withgoogle.com/carrier_selection

Chrome ****tin out 3 gigs of data a day. I have unlimited so it's not that big of a deal but still.....and some of the options I had in settings like "permissions, enable/disable, clear data/cache" that I know for a fact I had not too long ago are now greyed out or nonexistent. Also sometimes when I bring up "location" thru the settings menu everything is supposed to be "off" but there's 2 or 3 that look like they are switching back to say "off" as soon as the page shows. 1 of them outright takes several seconds to display any "on or off" setting at all. I've found a "Verizon" system app on my phone, some kind of Samsung telephony thing. And it seems like I can input a change to settings or something and when I look at my phone in the morning everything I had set up is back to it's previous settings.

Thank you. Umm.....stupid question but I've never done a full reset before so.....how and would I need to move my apps to another storage or could I just go back thru the play store and redownload? And any paid apps and subscriptions?
It probably explains all that in those links doesn't it?
Just do factory reset and you are okay.. Then start using phone as new..

For what it's worth, the Verizon system app comes with the phone in case you use a Verizon sim.
If you end up clean flashing or factory resetting, I would not restore any apps from backups. I would reinstall everything fresh or you could just be putting the malware back on your phone, if that indeed is what you have.

Just redownload them. Google remembers your bought apps or subscriptions in your Google account, so as long as you use the same email/account for logging in to Playstore after Factory reset you're good.
Your contacts normally are also synced to your Google Account, so you get them back also then.

It comes with the phone by default just in case you do use Verizon. Basically that app helps give the phone Verizon support, of sorts. It's disabled by default if you don't use Verizon so there's really nothing to worry about with that app.

Man thank you. There's stuff on here that I don't understand and I've been thinking it's something I've downloaded or whatever. I'm new to all of this.
