What happens to SIM lock if t-mo phone is flashed unlocked software? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

As the title says, I have t-mo branded phone, will the SIM lock disappear after flashing firmware from unlocked phone? I don't think it will, but maybe? Also, how would you unlock such a phone then? Anybody knows?

Sim lock has nothing to do with the firmware

if you flash the unlocked firmware on the t mobile device, the actually t mobile unlock app will not be on the phone. however the phone will still be sim locked to t mobile. If you plan on unlocking it soon, stay on the t mobile firmware so you have the access to the unlock app in the t mobile folder. after you unlock it through t mobile, restart the phone and the app will go away. I'm not sure if you can unlock the phone under the unlocked firmware without that mobile unlock app.

Im not sure about the Note 8 but I remember a year or so ago folks were saying that some phones can only be unlocked with the unlock app and that codes wouldnt work for them.

It seems my Note 8 is not eligible for unlock. I purchased it on Ebay. Is there any other way to bypass T-Mo-s unlock app?

Try contacting cellunlocker, see if he can do it via a unlock code as per what the other person mentioned here.

You'll just have to find a way to get it to prompt if that is even possible. I tried a different sim and it give you a messaging saying you have to use the unlock app.

Have you made any progress?
I'm in the same boat.

Just an idea, perhaps flashing a different version would then allow one to get the prompt?

Part of me feels like that would be too easy of a solution. Not to mention I finally got mine unlocked via the app but through all the trials and tribulations with TMobile they did the traditional unlock code request. The email came back looking like others I have seen in the past except where it said "Unlock Code" it said to use the Unlock App on the device..
We are are still left with needing a code from TMobile.

So im in a similar situation. I've got a Tmobile Note 8 which i'm using on ATT. I got a tmobile sim from a friend and had tmobile temporarily unlock it for 30 days. I hope by flashing this firmware (https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/how-to/guide-sm-n950u-u1-t3685884) for ATT, i can get it permanently unlocked.
OR
If the Device Unlock app is frozen or unisntalled (via root), i wonder if it can still relock the phone.?

Did anyone figure out a solution to this problem (bought T mobile Note 8 on eBay and cannot unlock it!). Worst case, can I open a new T Mobile account for $70 per month and then cancel it after 40 days and THEN unlock the phone?

Hi buy it from ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=250821375786
This actually works.
Was a little nervous during the 2 hours it took the guy to send me the code to my email, but it worked like a charm.
Free
Don't pay for this... Unlocking the LG Thrive is free and is fully explained here:
http://sim-unlock.net/simlock/LG/Thrive/
still not free. Link on site takes you to an ordering page where you have to purchase an unlock code.
Is there really no way to unlock this phone without paying for an unlock code?
was given this phone and I would like to use it as a back up phone as my Mytouch 4g is down for repairs.
If I'm not mistaken, flashing a custom rom will unlock the phone from AT&T as long as the SIM card isn't locked to the phone. If the SIM is locked to the phone, just call AT&T and ask them to remove the lock then flash a custom rom.

[Q] SIM Unlock code required

Hi,
I have Sony Xperia S from O2. I need to SIM Unlock Code because I'm using another Network. Can any one help me to solve this issue?
Thanks.
if youre with o2 pay monthly you can fill in the sim unlock form on their site
https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Handset Unlocking Form
I tried this before but this phone was a gift. I don't have SIM number to fill the form.
However, I'm using another network which not allowing me to make use of the phone.
It seems that your phone is a branded version that is attached to a carrier. You can try one of those websites that will SIM unlock your phone, but I'm not sure if the XPERIA S can be, yet...

it is currently $39,99 on this web-site. I wonder if one can find anything cheaper - I have seen one on the eBay for £32,99 which I find too expansive too. do you guys think unlock codes will get any cheaper with time? thanks
:S :S
I tried them.
Returned the money because they can not do it.
I travel abroad for a long time and should I use another service provider.
I called my provider to do it for $ 500 for decoupling.
If I know I do not take this crap phone.

I unlocked my Mrs's phone via cellunlocker webpage mentioned earlier. Had to wait a week, but can use any sim now. Though, the bootloader status hasn't changed (still says "no").
Then I bought an unlocked phone from eBay, thinking the bootloader will be unlockable, but it says "no" in the menu as well. :-(
I am wondering if you get it cheaper on the web - certainly those who made their way into unlocking world of SXS recently will make tonnes of money. Would appreciate if you could share if you have seen it cheaper than $40 please.

Dear Valued Customer,
We just wanted to keep you updated on the status of your order. Despite our efforts, the manufacturer has informed us the Sony Ericsson Manufacturer method is delayed until further notice. We are very sorry about this situation once again, as we are sure you are eagerly awaiting your phone to be unlocked.
Your order will be returned as "Not found" and a full refund will be issued to you.

I brought this phone over craigslist.
I put my friends T-mobile sim for few days to see if phone gets recognized, so that i can ask t-mobile to unlock it. But seem like T-mobile will unlock only when the account from which it was bought asks for it.
Sorry man you may be screwed, craigslist buys never seem to go well when it comes to carrier unlocking.

will Flash Stock unlock my device?
Only way it'll unlock is if the ESN is clear on TMOBILE site http://www.t-mobile.com/verifyimei.aspx
If it is CLEAR then thats when you can buy your code from the only site that sells legit codes. https://www.unlockbase.com/phone-unlocking-service/tmobile-device-unlock-app-official-unlock/
IF you want to do it free, you can call tmo and ask them for a code, etc etc

I bought my phone online, and this is what you do.
MAKE SURE THE PHONE ISNT ROOTED!!!
1) Flash back to stock (because stock has the TMobile Unlock app)
2) Call TMobile and tell them the phone is fully paid off and that you spoke to someone at tech support already and they said you could unlock it.
3) They will ask you if you have an account I said no, and then they will ask you for the IMEI and if you want a permanently unlock it (say yes) and they will give you the go ahead to unlock it through the app. (probably ask for your email and such to send you instructions on how to use the app)
4) The app is pretty straight forward but if you need help the steps are in the email.

That's what I did good luck

There are already 3 threads like this. We do not need a 4th. This is the solution here, which I have given. You must first meet the criteria that T-Mobile sets for us, and no you do not need to be the original owner nor do you need to be stock. I was rooted at the time. Stop wasting time on other unlock sites. The link below gives you the thread and solution.
Good luck

Yea I'm right with you on that one.....today I even started looking in to the one plus and nexus phones......there both root friendly but one deal breaker for me is no sd card......iv had the note 8 for about 3 weeks now and can't wait to get rid of it.....the device itself is awesome but no root available...locked bootloader...going to start looking at the cheep Chinese phones on ebay also....its getting ridiculous

H932 unlocking. I have the codes but...where do I put them?

So I bought the codes to unlock my phone, but I only get the option to enter one code when I put in a different SIM card, it says "code successful" and absolutely nothing changes.
I flashed back T-Mobile stock 20s and can't seem to find the hidden menu to type in unlock codes. "Dr. Sim" told me to type in 2945#*Your model number# at the dialer screen and that gets me nowhere.
Is this something I can access from shortcut master?
Edit: So I'm not sure where to go with this. When I type in the code, it checks it and says "unlock successful" and then promptly does not use my new SIM card. This code was called the "Network lock" code." I have received a second code for "service provider lock" but I find nowhere to put this code. I can't access any sort of hidden menu on Lineage or Havoc, so I don't really know where to go from here. On any of the stock roms, I have simply nowhere I can put the code in, as far as I can see.
Halp?
I've read in other threads that for the t-mo phones you want to use the t-mo app (that comes with their stock os) for unlocking. Anytime I've talked to t-mo, be it phone help or at the store, they say 'use the un-lock app'.
So I've always assumed if you have a t-mo phone, you better unlock it **before** modifying it, else you'll have to go back to their software (if u can), or be stuck with t-mo from then on.
No offense to t-mo, that's what I use, and don't see myself leaving. But if u wanted to ^^^^
Cheers

Sorry. In cases like this I would love to be wrong.
Whenever I'm wrong, wonderful things happen. New stuff is discovered, like WTF Oreo bootloader unlock exploit.
About a year ago... "There's no way that's real and no way LG was that stupid." I never said that out loud, but I sure thought it a couple of times until @TxanMoe proved it. I wanted more information, but I was very skeptical. And being wrong was fantastic! Now WTF is what most all the development of V30 series is based on.
I do often wonder if LG (or someone inside LG) gave it to us on purpose. An exploit like that is so hard to believe. And I thankful for it.

I used a third-party unlock service on eBay. Tmobilekiller or something, But that was after root. The listing was originally for the LG G6 H872.
To use the application I modified my model number from H932 to H872 from build.prop
A z3x box or miraclebox should do the trick but i have neither

Thank you for that. So it was an app, not a code. Makes sense: They created an app (maybe hacked version of T-Mobile's app) that performs the unlock without querying the TMO servers.
Thanks again. This could be very useful to others.

It is a Microsoft Windows based app. I think it generates and writes the unlock codes, then kills the T-Mobile unlock application.
