SM-T825 WIFI 5GHz instable connection - Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I bought the tab last friday. While playing around I noticed that Wifi does an
endless reconnect-loop when using 5 GHz Wifi. 2 GHz works fine..
Could anybody please try? Turn off your router's 2 GHz and use 5 only.
Watch the Wifi nenu in your tab.
Thanks

Tried again yesterday.. Only one reconnect in 10 Minutes.. Seems, that 5G WIFI in general somtimes
makes problems.. So, please can someone close this thread?

My tablet is connected to 5 gigahertz exclusively and has never dropped the connection. You may want to take a look at your router's wifi settings.

I have a brand new Galaxy Tab S3 SM-T820 Wifi version, and I have two wireless routers in my home. One is a RavPower ND007, the other a DLink DIR-813. Both are dual band routers. On both, I have the 2.4 GHz network and 5 GHz networks names differently. Every other device in my home - including a number of Samsung devices - connects to all four networks with no problem.
However, my Galaxy Tab S3 does not. When connecting to the Rav, it shows "Connected, No Internet", and can't communicate at all. It won't even connect to the DIR-813 at all.
It connects flawlessly to the 2.4GHz networks on both routers.
Both of the routers, and the Tab, all have the latest available firmwares/updates.
So it's definitely the Tab S3, and definitely a 5GHz problem.
Not sure how to report this to Samsung, but I'm going to try...

defenitley YES, 5G problem...

Last Sunday I forgot to turn off Wifi 5G on my router and used my Tab S3.... Reconnect each 2 seconds... Super Quality, Thanks a lot to Samsung..
And just to clarify - 5G works with the same router and my Phone S8 perfectly, so it is NOT a rouoter issue...

I've been using 5G exclusively as our SSID is 5G specific and never had an issue with WiFi. Solid connection 100% of the time. Netgear Nighthawk X8 here.

Will try to install the latest update this weekend, without any modifications. If 5G still does not work, I will send the Tab to samsungs repair-center, as it still will be covered by warranty.
Either it is a problem with modem-driver or Hardware..
But nevertheless, this is the very first device showing up this problem with 5G.
If Samsung is not capable to solve, this will be my last product purchased from this brand...

I did send my Tab to Samsung repair center in Germany. Will receive it today, but I already know that they did not find any problem, all fine..
Well - but they did not give me a detailed test-report yet... So I dont know what and how they tested..
Will return the Tab to my local dealer for replacement..
I'd like to test with a different SM-T825...

Reading this I haven't seen that you've tried updating your router's firmware. If you haven't try that too. I'm not sure if when you say "install latest update" if that's the router or the tab.

Just by chance I found out, that 5G works if no SIM inserted. And IF SIM is inserted, it MUST be active. In flightmode and then activate WIFI does NOT work..
This is very suspicious... I hope that SOON we will find a working lineage for the galaxy tab S3...

Galaxy Tab S3 SM-T820 Wifi version and dual band 5ghz
Hmm, I just updated my modem as per better speeds from Comcast, but I also need a new router that would take advantage of the bandwidth and the 802.11ac dual band standard so that I can get to the 5ghz band.
I own a Galaxy Tab S3 SM-T820 WiFi and before I get a new router, I want to know if the WiFi adapter in the Tablet would pick up on the 5ghz band with a new router. Is there any type of updates or drivers or am I okay?
Thank you,
Jon

I'm on 5Ghz all the time. No issues.

Great news !!
I asked the question after I learned about the variety with routers and especially since I found out that my laptop's WiFi adapter only supports b,n,g and that I would need to buy a USB WiFI adapter for my laptop or somehow change the adapter chip inside my laptop to take advantage of the 802.11ac dual protocol.
Thank you, Jon

I have the t825 version, unfortunately I have problems with the 5 Ghz connection.
I hope Samsung releases an update to fix the connection problem and to improve the camera

[Q] No 5GHz WiFi on i717R (Rogers)

Hi,
As I know from the specs and talks on Internet, Note LTE has abgn WiFi.
However, I only see the 2.4GHz band, Wifi Analyzer shows only channels 1-14, and there's no band selector anywhere in menus (someone mentioned it).
Any idea? Is it locked in Rogers version?
I can see both on my I717R. I'm on stock Rogers firmware and kernel and rooted. Are you on a custom ROM?
5 ghz does work.....make sure you wifi modem is is enabled for 5ghz...in fact to make sure you can disable 2.4 ghz and watch how the note still connects to wifi...I bought a dual band belkin n300 router just for ny note...
Confirmed. I have a stock i717 with Rogers. I have a Linksys/Cisco E3000. Running both Wireless N on 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. I can connect to either one, and both show up in the wireless network list.

Weird... What channel my AP supposed to be at? I've heard the Note sees only 4 channels on A band...
And how do I invoke 5GHz screen in Wifi Analyzer to see the spectrum same way as in 2.4GHz?
In wifi, select options button ( left touch button) go to Advance ,
In wifi frequency band , make sure its Auto.

In Advanced, I don't see the frequency band. I see:
WiFi sleep policy
MAC address
Proxy
Port
IP Address
Then goes IP settings group.
I have i717R from Rogers like yours, build number is GINGERBREAD.248

In fact, I have returned the dual band router, so there was no experiments with 5Ghz for a while. But recently I've tested it with another router, and it works on A-band. And WiFi Analyzer DOES show A-band, I've just missed the spot to click to switch screens.
Only one question left - how come other folks with i717 on GB have a screen to control WiFi bands, and mine is missing it?

Problem with 802.11n connection

My router supports 802.11n but my phones connect only in 54Mbps.
In addtion whenever i set my router to transmit only in 802.11n protocol , the phone can not connect to wifi.
it can see the router but it can not connect
The phone's chip always uses the highest possible compatible protocol.
All you can do is switch frequency between 2.4 and 5Ghz band. (I'd leave it on auto)
You may want to check with another non-similar Wireless-N router. In most cases i've seen this issue the Router wasn't actually N but one of the very early draft Versions (read: pre-beta) of the N-standard and thus had too many incompatibilites with the client for both to understand each other.
This would cause the device to go back to G standard.
ok, how do you stop it using "n". on my HTC I could tell it to use "g" to save power. On my S3, wlan traffic sucks the juice from the battery.
When I turn it to 5ghz band it doesn't find at all my router.my Samsung smart tv works fine with 802.11n , same with my ps 3 and my pc .My router is d link DSL 2740B

Mine connects at 72mbps on the default setting, check your router.
I download the application andromizer from the market and to the wifi settings I receive the message that my device does not support 802.11n set
I have XXLF5 stock root ROM

Any suggestion , i use all share a lot and all the HD videos are played with freezes
Guys i have tried many things but still i can not find any sollution .
Please can anybody help????????
my galaxy s connects to 802.11n network to 65Mbps , so i guess it is not my router problem. The strange thing is that the application andromizer says that my device does not support 802.11n set ups.Can somebody download the application and inform what result does he take ?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDEsImNvbS5qLnkuZGFkZHkuY3VzdG9taXplciJd
In addition when i set my router to transmit only to n protocol , my mobile find the network and try to connect but i get a certification error
Please answer the question/statement in the second post:

My phone connects with the router at 75Mbit/s. The router has a reduced late-draft-N protocol with only 2 antennas so it's correctly using the maximum capacity.
If you have the choice, please try e.g. with a N-supporting Fritzbox of the manufacturer AVM or other similar high-end products. Low-end cheap routers tend to have ****ty hardware.
My router is d link DSL 2740B, I think it is a quite good router with 2 antennas, but as I say my other devices connect fine in 802.11n transmition , my Samsung TV , my playstation 3 , even my galaxy s1 connect with 65Mbps.
Here is my router wifi settings, if you have any suggestions

[Q] HTC One won't connect to internet using 5ghz wifi

Just got this phone today,
I have a Netgear R6300 capable of AC wifi but my phone wont connect to the internet when its on the 5ghz network. It works fine on the 2.5ghz but the other it connects but no internet.
I tried giving it a reserved ip and looking at the settings on my router but nothing is popping out at me?

Check the Advanced Wi-Fi settings. Check Freq Band and make sure it is not set to 2.4 GHz only. Also try turning on "Best Wi-Fi Performance" and see if that helps.
Mine connects to my 5GHz network with no problems at all.
Hope that helps.

What router do you have? Also what kind of connection speed are you getting?
I checked freq and it was on auto, tried just 5ghz, also tried Best wifi but it still cant connect to the internet. I gets a connection with the router according to the phone but my 6300 doesnt show it as a connected device.
no problem here i can connect to my 5Ghz network with my a/n capable Time Capsule router. speeds are 55..27 Mbps download / 35.95 Mbps upload. my One wifi settings are set to Auto (vs. setting to 2.5 or 5 Ghz).
I have a Netgear WNDR4500. Speeds are 40 Mbps down and 28 Mbps up. That is with the router 2 floors above me in my house. My settings are also set to "Auto" as well. I connected immediately when I got home on Thursday after getting the device. I have had no problems at all with WiFi. Sorry I cannot be of more assistance.
I have no problem when connecting to my R6300 in AC mode ...
mine connects just fine
No connection at 5ghz, can only connect at 2ghz
I have d-link dr-825 rev B router with [DD-WRT v24-sp2 (04/01/13) std - build 21153] firmware. It has dual 2ghz and 5ghz radios.
I can only connect at 2ghz and unable to connect at 5ghz.
I have a dell latitude laptop and my old Galaxy SII has no problem connecting.
Howvever Htc-One lists the access point, correctly determines what kind of security is on (like wpa/wpa2 etc) but is unable to connect. I think once I saw a brief flash saying authentication failure on my phone when trying to connect to 5ghz. So I removed all security and made it completely open just to try. Again no connection without any error.
I am thinking of returning it if it is going to be a problem.
---------- Post added at 12:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:40 AM ----------
Ok, I have solved the problem, now it is connecting. I made two changes in the wirless setup. Enable RTS/CTS protection and also enabled short preamble. After these two changes it is connecting as expected.

I'm having the same issue with mine and the same router, can not quiet figure out what is going on.
Just quick update i just did an update on my router and it seems to connect completely fine
For those who have router issues, check for a firmware update! Most routers have a few updates while sitting on the shelf. I used to always update and properly configure routers (with out the software disc) for customers at my old job and we rarely had problems of customers bribing it back. And throw out the disc that comes with the router. The software can cause headaches down the road. All security settings can be done inside the router through any web browser and router IP.

Prefers 2.4
I have a dual band N router, and my One seems to "prefer" connecting to the 2.4 GHz network over the 5 GHz.
It will work fine on the 5GHz, but I have to switch it manually when I walk in the house (so I usually don't).
I guess I could just tell my phone to "forget" the 2.4 network to fix this. On more thinking, maybe it's a coverage thing - it probably finds the 2.4 GHz network first. Lower frequencies penetrate walls better, right?

I did check when sitting in my driveway - the 2.4 GHz network was still 2 "arcs" there & the 5 GHz was just a dot, so I think it is connecting to the first one it finds & sticking with it. In the Wi-Fi preferences, the "Wi-Fi frequency band" options are only Auto/5 GHz only/2.4 GHz only. No 'preferred' option - I'm running stock though - is there something different in the custom ROMs? I'm not afraid to root/ROM - I just haven't seen a good reason yet.

Use the only 5ghz only. There's a big difference with custom roms and stock att at the moment. There's new firmware etc. 2.4Ghz has more penetration through walls then 5Ghz. That's why you have more bars of one and not the other.

Well I want to be able to use the 2.4 GHz networks when available, so I'll leave it on auto. I guess the speed isn't a huge deal when the wireless connection is so much faster than my internet connection.
And yes, I know that there are lots of differences between stock & custom ROMs (my last phone was a Nexus S & I was always changing ROMs). What I meant to ask was if there was a difference with that specific option.
wifi 2.4GHz connection problems
Welcome
I have silver One for 3 weeks now, but it was 2 weeks in service - they reinstalled software and returned phone. No change.
I can't connect to any 2.4 Ghz network (G/N) ending Authentication Error. Only 5GHz works.
I tried it with Netgreat WNDR4700 (Gargoyle custom software), CISCO access point @ work, also random WiFi open networks in shops/malls, etc. Other devices i know and have at home ( Samsung Note II, htc Sensation, Acer Iconia tab, Dell Latitude laptop) works fine. Just the One cosing problems.
I run stock rom, how can I turn on more verbose logging or see what is happening in the Operation system while connecting? I must prove to Regenersis Poland service that my phone does not work. Otherwise they will say phone works within parameters.

Nexus 9 Wifi 5GHz

Just got my Nexus 9 today from Google Play store UK. Everything seems working ok, except:
I cannot find any wifi 5GHz. I am connecting to my home 5GHz (Virgin Media Superhub) from my HP Pavillion laptop, MBP, iPhone and iPad. But on Nexus 9, I am not able to scan any 5GHz network:
2.4Ghz works fine though:
I have enabled all possible channels in Settings (Wifi Analyzer):
In system Settings, I have tried both Automatic and 5GHz only:
I have performed OTA updated after first time switched on device and connected to 2.4GHz network at work, didn't notice whether there was an issue on 5GHz until I got home.
So, is there a problem with the latest OTA, or simple this unit needs to be RMA?

Mobile devices don't always support all the 5GHz channels that an access point might use. Try setting the Access point to use the lowest channel, say 36 and see if that works?

Different countries have different requirements, but often most countries only allow certain frequencies to be used outside, and other frequencies for 5GHz may only be used inside buildings to prevent interference to radar etc.
A mobile device can of course be used outside, so can end up only being setup to use much fewer frequencies than a router designed for indoor use.
Sometimes the router isn't set to the right country, so ends up using frequencies it shouldn't really be using with the mobile device correctly set so ignoring those frequencies or the other way around. 5GHz is a lot more complex for what frequencies can and can not be used, see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels and the chart at the bottom, you'll understand why 5GHz devices sometimes don't see each other, it's a lot more confusing than 2.4GHz.

Phil
Using 5ghz wifi
Hi
To use 5ghz have you tried configuring from WIFI from settings - tapping the three dots next to the magnifying glass - Advanced - WIFI Frequency band.
It gives you the option of selecting 2.4 or 5 or both.

i had the same problem! Thank you so much for the fix!
You should be able to use channels 149-161 as well, it's the channels in between that are set aside for DFS and radar, so many devices don't support them.
Working fine for me on Channel 153 with a Nighthawk R7000.

Got mine to connected on the Virgin Media Superhub by changing the channels as suggested. Can confirm it works but very unstable and keeps dropping connection.

I got the same problem! I bought my N9 on Nov 11 and used 5GHz without problem until today. In the WiFi Analyzer suddenly can show 2.4GHz only. I have reboot and clear all WiFi App cache & data., still cannot show.
Even connect to 2.4GHz, it took long time to Connect and Authenticate the connection.

Been a while, but since this is one of the top Google results, and I've been pulling my hair for a couple of hours without finding a solution online, I thought I might chime in with what I found.
If your N9 is not seeing certain 5GHz channels, what is your model, WiFi or LTE? Also, apparently there is an "international" version of the LTE one, which I just got (I'm in the US) because it was cheap, and I didn't mind it affecting certain LTE bands, but I didn't think it would affect WiFi. In any case, the solution was to simply insert a SIM card from my region (T-mobile US) and the missing 5GHz networks appeared in the list. I don't have a solution if this is happening with WiFi-only Nexus 9's though.
You need to insert the SIM after turning on the tablet. If you turn it on with the SIM inserted, it won't show the hidden 5GHz channels. You can just reinsert it, or toggle off/on airplane mode though.
I also googled to see if there was an app to change Wifi regions, but the only one I found (from XDA) requires root, and doesn't work for this particular problem anyway.
Well I have never been able to connect to the 5ghz channel until now. Finally! Changing the router to use channel 48 for the 5ghz and it is running as expected. I love fixes like this.

Do you have a Wi-Fi or LTE model? If you have an LTE model have you tried inserting a SIM card like I said in the post above? I got access to the upper channels which are supposed to be higher performance. From 149 to 161.
whats the highest linkspeed you guys are getting? my nexus 6 gets 866Mbps , i guess it dpends on your AC router specs mine is ac1750 i think
what app do i use to check what channel my nexus 9 is connected to? i think its below 36

I use netgears wifi analyzer.

5Ghz Wi-Fi Problem. Doesn't Detect Band.

Hello guys, I have 2 smartphones which are ''Samsung Galaxy Grand 2'' and ''Nokia 5''. Both of them supports 5Ghz Wi-Fi band. My router is ''Tp-Link Archer c50''.
The problem is both of my phone doesn't detect the 5Ghz band at all. There is no problem in the router. Laptops works well with it. I took the router back to the shop from where i bought it, they found out it's working with there smartphones (don't know the model though).
It's Good to say that my router only supports channel 36, 40, 44 and 48 of 5Ghz band.
I tested my mobiles channels by connecting each other via Hotspot and found out that they are always using channel 153. So i thought it was the problem. I also asked for support from Tp-link and Nokia's online care but they failed to help me out.
Now few days ago for some reason i installed cm 14.1 rom in my Grand 2 and there i found out that it's detecting 5GHz band but whenever i tried to connect the rom kept crashing. Anyway for whatever the reason i installed that rom didn't worked out for me so i got back to stock rom.
There i found out my Grand 2 is detecting the 5Ghz band in stock rom which never happened before. It was working well but after few hours it disappeared. From then after few hours mobiles battery got empty and it shut down. After charging i switched on the mobile and found out that its detecting again but after few hours it disappeared again. I restarted the mobile but this time and from then i didn't seeing the 5Ghz band anymore.
So, can anyone tell what's the problem!!!!???
