Can someone help me on how to do an OTA update on a rooted phone? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

I have a Xiaomi Redmi Note4 mido version.
I am rooted with TWRP 3.1.1-0
I am currently running MIUI 8.5.4.0
I want to install the latest OTA update, which is 8.5.8.0
When I press the update button, it downloads the update and when I try to install it, it just boots me to the TWRP screen.
How can I install the new update.
Can someone post a clear step by step guide for a newbie?

Download the Update rom (must be recovery rom) manually from here:
http://en.miui.com/thread-874672-1-1.html
Then boot your phone to twrp and flash it. Wipe dalvik/cache afterwards.
*note: you will loss TWRP after updating so better install it again.

Flashing locked phone via edl mode?

Hello,
so I've got a locked Redmi Note 3 snapdragon and I want to unlock it the official way (still waiting for the approval).
Anyway, when I want to flash firmware via MiFlash I get the error, that my device is locked, so I can't flash.

Today I've found those 2 tutorials on how to flash via MiFlash:
And this one: http://en.miui.com/thread-242767-1-1.html
I know that those tutorials are for different devices (and bricked ones), but would I be able to flash for example china dev 6.3.31 with this method without bricking my device (I really want root access and the new dev ROM doesn't have it anymore)?
And would I be able to flash global stable (via Update app I can only flash china roms)?
You can flash Chinese global or Chinese Dev rom with Mi PC Suite, I recommend you to first unlock your bootloader with the official way, apply your request as soon as you can so you won't need to wait that much, and after unlocking, install global rom if you want to.
(If you want to make your unlock request faster, post your request on the miui forum in the right section with your MIUI ID and say you registered more than 10 days, this will make things much faster )

I already applied for the code like 6 days ago, but You know, I'm impatient. I can't live without root
Mi PC Suite sadly fails to flash any ROM, that's why I wonder if I could use "fastboot oem edl" with locked bootloader to flash old china dev ROM.

The safest method is that you wait for your apply, install china dev, unlock your bl, and root it with the built-in root in security app, I use this too

I had the same ROM version, it's an unofficial custom MIUI made by the reseller. You might already have the bootloader unlocked.
I fixed this by flashing the global beta for MIUI 8 (which makes me think the bootloader was already unlocked). I didn't try unlocking any further, though, I just wanted to go to a supported ROM. What you have right now is not trustworthy.
This might work.
Theoretically, you flash the China Developer ROM from there, unlock bootloader, flash recovery then CM13

just download mi unlock tool . to unlock bootloader you have to be in china developer rom.remember this is an important step.i hope you know what i mean.
I've managed to unlock bootloader, I'm trying disable adb verity but unable to gain root on this China dev ROM, anyone know why this would happen? Do I have to install the modded boot image I was advised to do during twrp install?

If you're on Beta Rom i presume that your BL is unlocked. So...you can give it a try. And...let us know if you've managed to update it.

Hello, do not sorry for your English, since it's not your mother tongue.
You have to be more specific in the description of your problem. What rom was you using? What twrp did you use? Did you follow the exactly instructions on twrp topic?
I had some problems trying twrp some time ago, then I'd tried orange fox recovery and it worked perfectly on my mi 8 lite global back on miui 9. Now I'm on 12.0.3 update and it's still running fine.

Thank you for the answer. The problem is that my phone starts up with a black screen, even in fastboot. According to the tutorials, this is normal. For the twrp I took it from this page: https://tech-mizan.blogspot.com/2018/10/xiaomi-mi-8-lite-twrp-recovery.html
and followed the instructions outlined. Then I tried others. But this display problem is still present. I will try orange fox. Did you install it in fastboot or in recovery? Actually I just wanna go back to a stock
If all you need is to go back to stock, you can flash stock rom with xiaomi ADB fastboot tools. This java software can download correct rom from xiaomi for your device, and flash it in fastboot. You can download it from here:
GitHub - Szaki/XiaomiADBFastbootTools: A simple tool for managing Xiaomi devices on desktop using ADB and Fastboot
A simple tool for managing Xiaomi devices on desktop using ADB and Fastboot - GitHub - Szaki/XiaomiADBFastbootTools: A simple tool for managing Xiaomi devices on desktop using ADB and Fastboot

After that, I advise you to load some custom recovery (look in dev section here on XDA) and install magisk to root your phone.
