Strange screen behavior - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Hello,
Yesterday I have unlocked my phone with my finger print (like I always do) and it took about 5-6 seconds for the screen to show something. The backlight turned on rather quickly but the screen remained black. After the screen turned on, it had a bad case of screen retention, the colors were also darker and I could not use the buttons from the bottom of the screen. A reboot solved all this problems.
Also, sometimes when I turn on the screen, it quickly goes dark and the slowly comes back to the initial state. During this time I cannot use the touch screen. It is like it does the wake up of the screen all over again.
I think this is a software issue (I have V20C on H850) and it might be related to the always on display. Also, all of these problems happened when I woke my phone using only the finger print (not pressing the button or knocking on the screen).
Did anything like this happen to you?

Screen waking up by itself

I was just sitting on the couch, and the screen on my phone came on by itself. Not to the lock screen or anything, but the screen looks like its on its dimmest setting (barely on at all) and the search button at the bottom is very dimly lit up. Happened twice in the past 20 minutes...anyone else? I'm going to reboot and see what's up.
Are you using a third party sms app? There's a usually a setting that wakes the phone when a text is received.
I've used Handcent without any problems so far. But to be clear, this 'waking up' of the screen is NOT like when you press the button to turn on your phone. When I noticed the problem the screen was so dim that if you're not in a darkened room you probably wouldn't even notice, it's very faint and the only other thing that was lit up was the 'search' button and it too was very dim. At first I thought it was just the reflection of the tv across my phone screen thats how dim the screen was, but it was definitely on and no buttons being pushed would completely wake it up until I pushed the power button to turn on the screen completely like normal. Weird....but after a reboot I didn't see it do it again. I'm wondering if others might not be having this issue and not even have noticed, thus poor battery life for some people?
This happened to me once before. A rebooted fixed the issue for me too.

Have you used one of the temp roots. I had the same problem when I used one of them and when I restarted the phone it seemed to clear up the issue. I have noticed that powering of the screen while its in 3D mode can cause weird issues too sometimes.
Strange. No this is a stock device I haven't tried the temp root yet. Since the reboot I've been watching it closely and it seems to be fine. I suppose this thread should have been posted in with the one already discussing bugs, but I wasn't sure. Thanks for your kind replies!

[Q] Screen very dim after unlocking?

Hello,
the following problem appears when i try to unlock the phone after some hours: i can see my home screen, but the screen stays extremely dim. When i try to start an app (e.g. browser) the screen turns black. I can unlock it again, but the screen stays dim. after some unlocking the screen becomes normal (normal brightness) and also the apps are startable.
i am using autobrightness, the stock firmware, 4.1.1 (i9300xxdlih) power saver is not turned on.

i updated mobile phone to android versiopn 4.1.2. this morning. Unfortunately the problem still appears.
Maybe its a hardware defect?
Try to disable somehow light sensor and change settings to non auto brightness.

i disabled auto brightness and set the brightness to the highest level. But its still same: very dim and after a while a black screen; after a few times of unlocking, the display works normally
I have just seen the same issue on a friend's S3.
Anyone else? I feel like this is a very big issue that is still lurking in a lot of devices.
I tried it myself and I toggled the power button to turn the screen on and off.
It doesn't take long but sometimes when the screen turns back on, it's super dim and you can faintly see the lockscreen image.
You have to cycle the screen several more times to get it to the 'correct' brightness, and no it is NOT a brightness setting.
It's some hardware issue in the phone.
Sorry for the necrobump, but I only found this thread. I have this problem too since about a week back. It makes my phone useless at times. I first thought it was a software issue. I have an app (called Twilight) for dimming the screen more than normal settings and also toning it, for nightime use, and I thought that was the culprit first, but nope. I have flashed rom, recovery, wiped all caches I can think of. Still happens, just now I was in the middle of installing android revolution hd, and the screen ultradimmed on me so I can't finish the process
Thing is, a few months ago I managed to crack my screen by way of gravity and concrete. I let the samsung brand service centre in Stockholm repair it for me (it is out of warranty) and this issue with the dimming never happened before that. Then again, it didn't happen directly afterwards either... but still. So, I am thinking: either me dropping it caused more damages and this is because of that. Or the service center did a bad install of the new screen. Or, the replacement screen that was installed has a defect in itself. I am leaning a bit towards the third explanation... maybe different batches of screens?
Does anyone have any ideas? If I am to contact the service center and complain about their work I would like to be able to point towards a "known problem"...

Take it back, if it didn't happen before then the new screen is most likely.
It isn't a common problem

[Q] N9006 Note 3 problem touch-solve for time, return problem

Dear friends, see this, see in the youtube:
watch?v=ixWozCI8sek
I activated the phone in their own settings of android to show screen touches and strokes that you can see in the video above, and installed YAMTT app to better show the problem.
The Problem on mobile touch in the middle of the screen there is a track that is not recognized touch, but if I press the screen sinking, she returns to work temporarily, and now recognizes the touch - but after a few minutes the problem back and touch is not recognized again.
The screen is perhaps dished up, and when I press down her back to be in contact with the part of the cell that recognizes the touch, but with time the screen should be getting back dished up (this is my guess, not i'm sure).
Detail, not always when I press is running, sometimes I press the screen to the center of the touch again be recognized, but it seems that the phone is registering touches alone.
What would be a solution, and change the screen (it does not mean that changing the screen the problem solved), want to try other alternatives before changing the screen.
Perhaps heating up the screen with hot air, in theory it will expand and become more pliable, and then if I press down the center panel of the phone with something for a while until it cools, in theory the screen would remain indefinitely, and if that is the problem could solve -
Anyone have any thoughts, has been there?
Thanks in advanced!

LG V30 always on display and KnockON features in low light don't work

Hello,
I'm experiencing a weird problem with my LG V30 H930 and I was wondering what could be the solution, if anyone has ever experienced that as well?
Yesterday I received a new LG V30 phone and that day I found something very disturbing. The "always on display" function does not work when it's too dark in the environment or when I cover the light sensor. This also results in:
- "double tap to wake" function does not work when it is too dark
- holding finger against the screen results in turning off display instead of entering options for changing wallpaper, adding widgets and settings. Additionally when I turn off the screen in this way, I need to press the button on the back of the phone twice, which is also a fingerprint reader and at the right time. If I do it too slowly, i.e. press the button once, wait a bit and then the second time, the screen will not turn on. I have to press it twice and relatively quickly
All of this does not happen when it is bright in the environment.
The phone's never been rooted, there is no custom firmware loaded on it, I've tried many times going back to factory settings.

Why are you covering the light sensor if you want the AOD on?
You are basically replicating a flip case cover or flipping a phone over on the desk. Of course the AOD will turn off under those circumstances. There's nothing wrong with your phone.
With your display on, just quickly press your finger on the fingerprint sensor to display lock the phone and you will see AOD. Well you also have need the "power key instantly locks" option turned on. But I assume you have that on already.
Of course the AOD works in a dark environment. But in this instance, you are covering the light sensor -- which tells the phone you must have it in a flip cover case or flipped over. When you open the case or flip the phone back on, the AOD comes back on. In your fake way, you must be doing something wrong.
Stop covering the light sensor.

I understand your logic, but it is a very weird feature then, not to be able to change wallpaper directly from the home screen, when it is dark in the room or not to be able to turn on the phone double-tapping the screen, which is turned off. Is it perfectly normal as well?

You can change wallpaper and double tap the screen, but go to AOD mode in a NORMAL way. I told you how. Just turn off the display with the fingerprint sensor. AOD. Double tap, display back on.

Telephone is turning screen backlight off when under sun

I have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S which has the following behaviour: it works normally until the moment it goes under the sun, then (apparently only) the backlight of the screen is turned off and never turns on again until I restart the smartphone, where it works normally until the very moment it "detects" a bright light like under the sun, then the screen goes black. When this happens, sometimes you can still see the shape of what was on screen, but most times it only goes totally black.
When the screen is black, the telephone keeps working normally (music keeps being played, receives calls, vibration responses keep working, etc...(confirmed it using scrcpy and all is working normally)), only that the backlight is turned off and it keeps totally black. During the night, i.e. with artificial light, the telephone works normally (I was able to replicate the error using a strong flashlight above the telephone, the screen also went black the very moment I turned it on).
What I tried to resolve: restarted many times, disabled every auto brightness (also one that I think is a Xiaomi MIUI only, sunlight detector, something like this) settings that are in the configuration menu, restarted using vol up + power button. Factory reseted the smartphone. Disabled pocket mode before and after factory reset.
Any idea how to proceed? What is killing me is that it seem to be a software issue, like, why the screen don't turn on back after a while, but every time you restart it, or why the phone works all night long (i.e. there no strong light on it)?
How to capture the telephone log (logcat perhaps?) and be sure of what is the exact event that is disabling screen? Maybe I can manipulate it to prevent from happening, or to make screen goes back to normal after a while, as I work as a software developer.
