T-mobile vs Samsung firmware - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

Good afternoon my fellow note 8 owners. I jumped from the s8+ to the note 8 and was wondering if anyone has had the same experience as me when using the s8+ or the note 8 on the Samsung unlocked firmware. When I first bought both phones I ran them both on the tmobile firmware and battery was great. I averaged about 7 to 8 hours screen on time on both phones. I noticed after flashing the Samsung firmware on both phones that the battery life went from a great 7 to 8 hrs screen on time to 4 to 5 hours screen on time. Is it me or is it the samsung software that made both my phones die faster. Please chime in if you are having the same experience. Thanks all.

Are you having the same signal strength when on tmo or Sam firmware?

I know there is a tutorial on here on how to flash all that tmobile stuff on my phone and it's probably causing my battery to die faster since I only have WiFi call working. If I flash the tmobile file onto my phone will I loose the call identification feature? That's the whole reason why I flashed the unlocked firmware on my note. I think it's the csc file I'm not really sure what it's called.

Interesting thread, as I too was thinking about flashing the USA generic unlocked firmware on my T Mobile Note 8.
So OP did the same and now has reduced battery life. Did you just flash the unlocked version on the T Mobile version or was anything else done?

I flashed the USA generic version and applied a theme from the the theme store and nothing else. I always like to keep my phone as original as possible lol. At this point I'm thinking about reflashing the tmobile version of the software but what if it's not the software itself. I'm just guessing since tmobile offers volte and video calling the phone is setup for those features and causing the battery drain issues since this software doesn't support those features. I don't know. Lol

wifi calling and VOLTE will work out of the box with t mobile on unlocked. the video calling I was told can be enabled but I stopped following the thread because I like google duo better anyway. I have heard signal strengths are equal on both firmwares while using the t mobile network

What i want to get is by using NOTE 8 tmobile version and flashing unlocked Firmware and get all those features like volte, wifi calling and video calling over lte. I can't seem to find those setting when i flash the unlocked firmware as some people listed they were able to get on the NOTE 8 Unlocked version of phone. Anybody else got anything different let me know.

Will the "MJ7" 4.3 Update block use of other GSM SIM Cards?

*I also have a Verizon branded Samsung galaxy s4 that I am currently using on T Mobile. I put my tmobile sim in it and it works just fine after I changed the APN settings to the T mobile settings so I would get the data, MMS and picture messaging, et cetera et cetera. However I recently noticed that Verizon just released a major firmware update that will update it from the most current version that we all have: Android version 4.2.2 with firmware/baseband:I545VRUAM(E)7 TO Android 4.3= with firmware/baseband :I545VRUAM(J)7. anyways, this new firmware... Allegedly, once it is applied not only does it update the android version,..but it is supposed to unlock all of the of the available AWS - LTE bands that the phones hardware is quite capable of and other technologies that a lot of other carriers use for their high speed data. So effectively once the update date is applied... instead of getting only a 3G UMTS BAND 3 or H+ (HSPAP) BAND 15, The phone should effectively be getting 4G and or LTE, or the capability of using other bands in a lot of areas using T-mobile(or other GSM carriers) on the phone. I have not yet downloaded and applied the update to my phone because I'm a bit hesitant. My phone is working fine now and the maximum data speed I get is either 3G/UMTS BAND 3 or a Idle on 3G and H+ (HSPAP) BAND 15 when data is active, however I would love to be able to get the other bands on my phone. I'm just a bit concerned that I wonder if when the new firmware update is applied will it possibly put a restriction or sim card/GSM/ or other type of carrier lock on the phone that was never there before? Effectively not allowing me to use the tmobile sim card in the Verizon Galaxy S4 any longer? So I just wanted to reach out to other people in the same situation to see what firmware version others are using thats allowing use of a tmobile sim card, and anyone who has successfully done the new firmware update and are still able to use the tmobile (or other carriers sim cards) in the phone with no new negative issues or restrictions or locks. Thanks so much I'd appreciate any feedback. -Rob

no beta for us...

How does everyone feel about att getting left out of the galaxy beta program? I already feel our root method is basically crippled and with the bootloader locked I'm considering a pixel as my next phone, but curious about the s8. Thoughts and opinions? I for one was excited to see Samsung s beta program right up until the blocked att...
I want to get the new pixel phone because of the locked bootloader but do not know about how to go about it as I am still paying for this phone monthly. I'm just hoping that this bootloader gets unlocked for nougat, I don't even need custom roms all I want is root with normal battery life.
I was excited about the beta program as well when I first read about it, but then AT&T had to ruin it for us. I just hope that does not mean that we'll have to wait longer than everyone else to get it when the final build is ready.

There are instructions online on how to sideboard the beta but I have not tried it. It will load the F variant. Not sure how that will play out.

where can I find them?
Idk if that works. Someone was asking about how to flash back since that soft bricked their phone.
Att always denies users the good stuff and takes forever with updates because they have to load them up with bloat crap.

The 930F has a different processor, probably why
If I get the beta I will upload the ota zip. There shouldn't be any reason you guys couldn't use it. I'm on tmobile.

Verizon s7 flat ota.zip thread. Be careful
So it looks like a few people have done the verizon OTA to nougut, does anyone have any pro's or con's to using verizon vs tmobile with a 930a and att service? Also can anyone provide a step by step on changing the apn, I am concerned about what will and will not work since the fw is not designed for this carrier.
I am assuming that Volte and Wifi/Video Calling will NOT work, but obviously would be willing to be proven wrong.
Ive recently abandoned root and just applied a pixel launcher to the Nov. 1st update from ATT. If my phone wasnt company provided I would just get a Pixel already....
Thoughts?

I flashed the nougat update from Verizon on my AT&T S7 so far everything looks okay I got internet to work just by updating the APN texting works calling MMS sometimes works sometimes doesn't. Only thing I noticed is that lost band 17 which normally I have here where I live and now it's connected to band 4 so I'm between H+ and LTE

Permanent unlocked TMobile note 8. Lost some features

Hey guys,
I lost some features on my note 8 unlocking my TMobile note 8. Anyways I can them back?
What features are you missing because I have a permanently unlocked T-Mo Note 8 and I didn't notice any features missing after the unlock went through.

all depends if you went to a mvno or other carrier dependent services. that's the only that occurs.

I am no longer using T-Mobile, I am using MintMobile and unlocked the phone (there was no reason to do an unlock, I just wanted too because I am going over seas and want to use EU SIM)
But before I unlocked my phone all these options were working
Samsung Facetime
and WiFi Calling
These are the two I noticed that are gone. Now that WiFi calling is completely gone, its a huge game changer for me. Anyways I can get that back? There is nothing available in the settings....

Well I was and still am using Mint Mobile. The phone was locked for T-Mobile and all the features worked just fine. I figured I would unlock it for my upcoming trip to the EU. Now all the features such as WiFi calling are no longer in the settings and I cant toggle them on and off, which is a huge bummer.
Thank you,
Newjack

wifi calling is carrier dependant and that's one that your current carrier doesn't support even if device does. call mint and ask if they include wifi calling in service plan.. as far as flow, samsung techs can assist soley.
Your service provider does offer wifi calling. Gotta check your fist 8 of imei see if it's on note 8 list.
Wifi calling is in settings > connections> more connection settings and wifi calling should be in the bottom. I have a unlocked Tmobile note 8 on metropcs and it works.
My TMO Note 8 is unlocked and I recently went to the Isle of Man for the TT and was on Sure the whole week ... Wifi calling worked fine. It's carrier dependent. I had no issues at all.

Galaxy s9 plus u965u1

I have read through many threads and I cannot find a direct answer. As it is stated in the title I have the Galaxy unlocked s9+that I bought from Samsung. I am currently on AT & T network because T-Mobile is terrible here in North Carolina where I am currently living. Can I flash ATT firmware on this unlocked version of the S9 plus and use Wi-Fi calling and volte? If there is a definite yes to this question then I will try to find the ATT firmware the flash on this phone.

The answer is yes.
The firmware can be found pretty easy by looking in the forums or by looking on sammobile.com
Also, make sure you are flashing the same version of firmware. So if your device last digits are ARF4, then you want to flash the ARF4 AT&T firmware.
I have a question for this unlocked version from samsung.com. i I use it with Tmobile is the wifi calling, Volte, will work out of the box? or i have to do the same thing as flashing tmobile firmware? and also if I flash do i have to root? TIA. and also if there is already a thread for this question kindly post the link.

Yes if you use it on T mobile, the wifi, Volte will work out of the box. I was on T Mobile but because of coverage I had to switch to Att.

FYI Sammobile requires premium account for fast download and with free account download speed is throttled to 15kbps. Try https://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model for the firmwares with fast download.

Since this is an unlocked phone not purchased from ATT, WiFi calling and other features wont work even on a regular post pay account. I had to call ATT and give them my IMEI from my previous ATT branded s8+ before wifi calling and smart caller ID and other features would work. I told them it was an ATT phone that i purchased at Best Buy and i read about WiFi calling problem in a forum and that using a different IMEI worked for others. The tech said it's worth a try and she changed it and ive been good to go ever since. I fumbled around the question of "is this an unlocked phone?" i said no, it has ATT logo (it does at boot, but not on the back lol) and i purchased it for ATT. That was good enough for them.
Many others with unlocked U1 phones have done the same thing and ATT has changed IMEI on their side. It doesnt change your phones physical IMEI, just their end. I saw a post where one operator said they wouldnt or couldnt do that. If they tell you no, call back you'll likely get a different person and they might change it. Main thing is you have to have an IMEI from an ATT branded phone that supports the same features (s8,s7,s6, etc) Luckily for me i have a like new s8+. It's worth much more than what they offer for trade in so i kept it. Glad i did.
Yes, I saw those posts as well but currently I do not have an ATT branded phone. So, I went and put the unlocked firmware back on the phone and I will just keep it the way it is. If the new iPhone that is coming out has the T-Mobile band 71, I probably will jump back to the iPhone. This was my first Android in about 4 years. I am kind of disappointed that it won't work.

T-Mobile SIM card on a Verizon Unlocked SM-G695U, Poor network

Bought a S9+ recently after wifi on my Google Pixel XL stopped working. I'm getting dropped calls and static sound quality during calls, there's poor reception, signal strength is around -100dBm. I'm thinking that it's possibly due to using a T-mobile SIM card on Verizon unlocked phone. LTE discovery shows I'm on band 4, typically 1-2 bars when at home. Is there a firmware I can flash to get better signal strength?

Odd Samsung phones work on all networks tho the firm would be better. Nice wish the S9 did it automatically like the S8. I don't think TMO blocks B13 in there firmware

all u need to do is change your firmware. All S9+ use the same firmware. I can help u with teamviewer if u are not comfortable. Just send me a DM. You may want Android P or I can get u on the latest unlocked XAA firmware and teach u along the way so that u can mess with it as u go along. There is almost no risk of bricking your phone as the bootloader and Knox stays locked when u change firmware
