only _some_ functions are delayed, how to diagnose - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody,
just took the time to find out some malfunctions on my Note 5, SM-N920R4, Android VErsion 6.0.1, patch level 1.6.16, rooted. Bought it last year, use it in Germany.
Some things are proceeding very slow on the phone, most of all works correct.
1. Pushmessages from Twitter: I touch on it, Twitter opens one minute +x later on.
2. Installations from Playstore: after download it takes tenth of minutes till installation is reported as ready . I already deleted teh playstore cache and the playstore updates back to first release as mentioned in various help hints, no success.
3. counter bubbles in telegram and w'app are behind the reality, especially they don't disappear after reading the messages
4. An external alarm clock (A4C Alarm, I use it because it is one of the rare ones, which shows the remaining time right during the setting) gives the alarm delayed or not at all, the origin alarm clock works perfect.
5. Installation of the Bitcoin Ticker Widget.
After placing a widget on the screen it takes tenth of minutes with showing: "loading data..." till it shows the numbers. On every other phone the numbers occur immediately.
So I thought, that all of that could be a data block problem and I deinstalled the Kaspersky Security, no change.
I look for an idea to find out, whats delaying especially the steps i mentioned in 1, 2, and 5.

[Q] Apps restart / losing twitter timeline position

Got my Titan last Friday, loving parts of it (design of both WP7 and the phone itself, smoothness).
However I can't get over these (related) issues, can anyone help me:
1. apps restart when you open them again. I see a splash screen and there's a delay. Is this normal? Shouldn't these apps just resume (almost) instantly?
2. I use Twitter a lot. All twitter apps (most of them look gorgeous!) I've tried can't keep their position in the timeline when restarted. The app restarts completely and loses the position in the timeline, making it unusable for me. I've tried all settings in these apps, no luck.

Carrier IQ

So as I've stated in one of the update threads, I've been getting terrible battery life since the recent update. After getting fed up with my battery draining at 6% an hour with the screen off with Ultra-Powersaving enabled (combine this with when I'm actually using the phone and I couldn't even go 6 hours without having to charge the phone) I finally decided to install BetterBatteryStats. After about a 3 hour test window yesterday of which about 1 hour 25 mins was screen on and the rest screen off, battery was at 42%, and there were 700+ wakelocks from "com.carrieriq.iqagent.Wakelock", which according to BBS accounted for 30+ minutes of the CPU being awake (which was more than triple the time of the notorious NlpCollectorWakelock that was also present).
After some searching, as I had no idea what Carrier IQ was, I discovered it is a piece of pre-installed software by the carrier that is supposedly used to collect diagnostics data for the carrier, but most likely has the ability to collect much more than that, and critcally, has no opt-out. It has been described in the past as a rootkit, and has been the source of much controversy back when it was discovered to be able to log keystrokes in 2011, which resulted in many device manufacturers and carriers ceasing using it, and even taking legal action against the company. Apparently ASUS and/or AT&T was not one of those companies.
After learning about this, I sought to confirm my device had this software installed. I was able to confirm by downloading Lookout's Carrier IQ Detector from the play store. According to Lookout's app my Padfone X does have Carrier IQ installed.
I am posting this to:
1. Inform all of you that your device may also have this pre-installed rootkit
2. Find out of anyone knows of or can find an up to date way to remove it if possible, as most of the apps that the articles link are from 2011 and were buggy even then
3. See if anyone can verify my concerns as all this research was done in a small amount of time on my phone
Side note: This is possibly the final straw for me. Between the hardware and software problems, and now if I am correct about this, I am thoroughly regretting getting this device.
Disclaimer: All the research I did was done in what little free time I have at work on my phone. Most of the articles consulted are from 2011,and may reflect the opinion of the software at the time. For all I know Carrier IQ could be more privacy conscious now, but personally I don't want this software on my phone.
Screenshots of BBS and the Lookout app are attached.
I no longer have this device but your research does reflect the 2011 versions of CarrierIQ. I didn't know it was still around at all, so no clue.
I found the same thing about a month ago i am very pissed at at&t, Infringing on their customer's privacy but that is another rant. I think i have found a way to stop iq carrier, testing with the same apps that confirmed it is on my padfone. It is a pain and with my genius there is probably an easier way but here is what i have done.
Needless to say this will void your warranty! I am not responsible for any bricking or dam age that may occur!
Also be warned if your battery dies or you restart your phone you will get a continual pop-up saying unfortunately android system has crashed. It is a pain but you can get back and rename the file as described below and everything will run fine, it just takes fast fingers.
Required.
Root via towel root 1
Root explorer
After rooting use root explorer go to system/lib/libiq_client.so, press and hold a menu will open remove the letter o from so.
The line below that is libiq_service.so again remove the letter o from .so.
I had originally renamed .so to .bak but when i restarted my phone the renaming process was time consuming .
More removal
Picked up a PFX from ebay for cheap recently, and was disappointed to find out that CarrierIQ is still a thing.
I installed the Voodoo CarrierIQ detector to get an idea how bad it was: score of 270 with CIQ active. 200 of that from a running system process, the other 70 from two lib files in /system/lib (libiq_service.so and libiq_client.so)
I googled around and came across some de-CIQ instructions for the AT&T LG G3 here.
Most of the guide applies, but a few things are different. For example, there doesn't seem to be a "LADDM.apk" on the PFX, but it might simply have a different name. If it does, I dunno what it is.
Anyway, here's what I did to get my Voodoo score from 270/active to 70/inactive.
NOTE: I currently do not have my PFX activated on a mobile carrier (wanted to get it all setup first), so there's a chance that one of the below changes might mess with the phone radios, but I highly doubt it.
1. Install the usual mod tools: Towelroot, supersu, busybox, twrp recovery, make a nandroid backup, etc. Guides for these can be found in the other PFX topics.
2. Download "3C Toolbox" from the Play Store. (app used to go by the name Android Toolbox)
3. Open it, give it root permissions, and select "do not show this message again" so it won't pop up every time you go to a different screen.
4. Open up the Application Manager on the second screen (swipe from left once)
5. Near the top of the screen, right above the free space, swipe the tabs to the left and select Apps.
6. Near the bottom of the screen, above the ad, there's a blue button that says "User", press it once so it switches to red and "System".
7. Long-press on Android System > Open (top-left) > Details.
8. Similar to #5, there's tabs near the top of the screen: Details, Activities, Providers, etc.
9. Under the Activities, Receivers, and Services tabs, uncheck anything that starts with "com.carrieriq".
10. Exit and reboot the PFX.
11. Start up Voodoo CarrierIQ Detector. Score is now 70! ("CarrierIQ elements found - however it seems inactive").
In regards to the libs in /system/lib, if I rename libiq_service.so to something else and reboot, the phone still behaves normally, but if I try to rename libiq_client.so and reboot, I get constant popups saying that com.android.phone has crashed.
So, technically it's not fully removed, but it's a step in the right direction!

Nexus 5X weird behavior (malware?), possibly caused by FB Messenger or Pixel Launcher

Some very weird things started happening on my phone earlier today. It's a Nexus 5X, running 8.0 Oreo, with the October security patch. I'm not rooted and I'm careful about what I install. The phone is fairly new, from this summer.
I will begin with describing what I did in the hours before this started. I can think of two things that possibly could have started it:
1) Two of my Facebook contacts sent malicious links to me an hour before. It looked like Youtube videos but was not. I did NOT open any of these links, knowing directly they were harmful (not sure if you can be affected by just receiving them, not clicking on them?). I received them in the Messenger Lite application (an official app from Facebook with scaled-down functionality).
2) A few hours before the Facebook links, I sideloaded an APK containing the new Pixel Launcher. I got the APK from Android Police/APK Mirror.
Can't attach links, but Google for: Hands-on with the updated Pixel Launcher, including the new Pixel 2 features [APK Download]
The APK was working fine and nothing seemed odd with it (I used the launcher for a few hours). As long as Android Police know what they uploaded, this shouldn't be the cause for my problems. I bet on Facebook Messenger instead. (People that click such malware links typically get their Facebook accounts hacked, however my account seems fine and my account didn't spam others with the same link. I did not change password or did anything else to "recover" my account yet).
So what happened after this on my phone?
Here is the first thing I noticed. I open Play Store to install updates. It turns out I have one update pending, it's called BankID. This is a major Swedish app used by nearly every smartphone user in the country, and it's for signing into government websites, bank websites, insurance company websites, and much more. When I click update in Play Store two things happen almost instantly:
1) Six pictures are downloaded from Messenger Lite to my phone. That makes no sense, how could clicking a button in Google Play trigger something to happen in Messenger Lite? In fact I tried it three times, with the same behavior every time. (Well, actually opening the Messenger Lite photo album, there are only photos there I already downloaded, so nothing new seems to be added there - but the photos were probably re-downloaded I believe).
2) The BankID update downloads to 100 % (the downloading takes a little longer than expected), then it halts and does nothing, i.e. it's not installing. No error message, it just stops there. I can choose to abort and try again, which I do three times or more, with exactly the same behavior.
Also, I now notice Play Protect hasn't run for two days, but when I try to run it, it seems to be down. After ~30 seconds of scanning it says "App verification temporarily down". "App verification temporarily down" could very well be connected with the halted update I just described? It still says it hasn't run for two days after this.
When I experiment, I notice other things that are very weird indeed.
1) Notifications in Gmail, Snapchat and possibly other apps aren't coming through. By opening the apps, I can sync manually.
2) When I move a file to a new folder using the Downloads app (Files app, stock one) I get a error message saying the move operation failed. This also triggered the photo notifications from Messenger Lite (same behavior as described above, with six photos). However, after a while the moved pictures are indeed in the right folder, even though the error message saying otherwise.
3) After some time I remove "app data" for the Google Play app. When I open it after that, there are now three app updates pending (e.g. Google Wifi also). But the same behavior occurs, when I try to download one or all of them, I get the Messenger photo notifications and the updates halt at 100 % without installing. So the BankID app - which could be targeted by attackers for obvious reasons - could just be a coincidence. It could have happened with any app I suppose, this was the only one pending right then. But still, why couldn't Play Store detect other pending app updates until I refreshed it the way I did? Was Play Store blocked from connecting to Google (or forced to connect to some other server, perhaps?).
What did I do after all of this?
I uninstalled three apps:
-Facebook Lite
-Facebook Messenger Lite
-Pixel Launcher APK
However the uninstall process was very odd. A process called "Package Installer" had a notification saying "Uninstalling Lite" and "Uninstalling Messenger Lite". It didn't seem to be working, it was stuck after some time. I restarted my phone and the apps seem to be gone now, at least they aren't listed in Settings --> Apps. So the uninstall process was successful I suppose, even though it didn't seem to work.
After I restarted my phone I also noticed:
-When I install Messenger Lite from Play Store now, it's easy to uninstall it the way it should be - in mere seconds.
-When I open Play Store, updates are now installing fine. Play Protect is also scanning fine now.
Everything looks back to normal now. But I'm not trusting my device. I'm gonna factory reset it. Before I do, I wonder:
-Can I feel safe the wipe would erase whatever malware I might have had on the phone?
-Is there something I could do to let us know what caused this? Upload a log here somehow?
The only piece of advice I have received as of now is: "Try restarting in safe mode, installing some AV software, and generally looking for suspicious processes." I haven't done that yet, would it still be a good thing to do? Must I install AV software before rebooting into safe mode, or could I install it directly from safe mode? (App suggestions, AV software?).
Usually I'm very careful and security-minded. I haven't had something like this happen before. So I'm very intrigued and mad about this. I'm gonna change my Google account and Facebook account passwords later on I think (I already have 2-factor authentication enabled).
One last thing: When I install Pixel Launcher on my non-rooted phone, it's not running as a system app if my understanding is correct. (At least it shouldn't be). But none the less, when I wanted to uninstall it I had to go into Settings --> Apps and tap "Show system apps" to find it in the list. Is that normal? Perhaps it doesn't mean anything, I just want to know.
Thanks for your advice in advance. Anything else to add? What should I do know? All you might have to say is appreciated.
Come on now guys, someone must be able to help?
If I factory reset the device, will it be clean? I didn't mess with custom ROMs, root, the bootloader or something else. (I suppose the bootloader is locked).

Tasker & Other Background Apps Closing (Android 9)

Hi all!
BIT OF BACKGROUND
Before I post this I wanna say I posted this earlier thinking it is a Tasker issue, into Reddit sub for Tasker. But it seems that it is an Android issue. I have in detailed mentioned what are the problems below. No one could identify this issue.
If you have any suggestion please help me out. Looks like this is the worst Android One phone I have got.
There is even a log in the end of the post. If someone can guide me on how to understand which app is force closing it, it will be great.
Thanks a lot in advance!
-------------------------
Hi,
I have been given a phone by office to use to send Whatsapp messages in the early hours of the morning.
This is a Infinix x604B (Indian Model) running stock Android (One) version Pie with security patch 5 March 2019.
I have unlocked bootloader and rooted with Magisk. (this issue was there since it came originally with Android 8)
I have a problem of Tasker and Autoinput not staying open in the background. I use these two along with
Whatsapp
Clipper
Autoresponder PRO (SMS
AutoResponder for WA
And the only one that doesn't fail to work in the background is AutoResponder for WA and Whatsapp.
Till now searching the forums and other places I have
1. Set the battery setting to "NOT OPTIMIZED"
2. Intelligent power saving standby - SET TO OFF
3. Battery Saver - SET TO OFF
4. Adaptive Battery - SET TO OFF (there is no option to exclude apps in this)
5. Developer Options - Background Process Limit - SET TO DEFAULT - STANDARD
6. Developer Options - Standby Apps - All the running apps are - SET TO ACTIVE
Under Tasker
1. App Check Method - App usage stats OR Accessibility (Both are used and still it closes)
2. Use Reliable Alarms - Always
3. Tasker has been given all permissions and others which connect with Android (only device admin is not permitted at the moment)
All the above don't work
As someone suggested in another post in Reddit, to use sys.keep_app_1 and I have added to build.prop and that doesn't bother at all. It still closes.
It barely takes 15 minutes to set the phone in idle stage and Tasker and AutoInput both will be taken out from the BG list.
In Accessibility options they both will appear as "This Service Is Malfunctioning" and have to disable and enable it back to make it work. Then it will be dead in 10-15 minutes. Very short time.
Till now i have reset the app, cleaned the preferences and started all over again without restoring the xml file for profiles and tasks. Still no change here.
Here is the Tasker log which I am sharing here. Hope you can get something out of it.

Is there anything I can share to help?
Thank you!

Late notifications

I've been battling with this for well over a year and finally broke down to post on xda because I cannot figure it out for the life of me.
Most of my notifications are delayed, sometimes by an hour. They only seem to push through when I turn my screen on or am actively using the phone.
I have tried to toggle every battery saver setting, data setting and permission possible with no positive result. I feel like I'm missing something.
I've reset the phone, soft and hard.
Cleared caches, ran only that app on the phone ...I'm ripping my hair out here.
Biggest offender is the "MyQ" notifications. It will tell me an hour later that my garage door closed or opened.
Gmail is another one.
I'm having the same problem on Note 20 5G with Gmail. It's not just delayed, but doesn't show at all! unless I open the app and refresh it. Every possible tricks that more or less have been working for me on other Samsung phones (clearing data, cache, downgrading apps, unrestricting battery usage, data usage...) fails here. It just doesn't wants to refresh and sync in background or show any notifications at all.
You can try posting on Samsung community, so some "support admin" copy and paste "factory reset guide", mark it as "solved" and ask you not to send repeated posts.
